Life - An Inside Job episodes

  • Inside Body Confidence with Sophie Cleere

This episode features an inspirational facilitator whose favourite thing is to empower women to feel good. The soft and strong, wild and free, fragile and fierce Sophie Cleere. Together we take a no-bullshit look at Sophie’s journey from disconnection to body confidence and the pleasures and heightened sexuality of her perimenopause. There is some explicit language so if that’s not your thing, you may prefer to listen to a different episode. We chat about:

    • How our mums' body image influences our own
    • How restrictive dieting crushes the spirit
    • How to stop looking up our arses and be in the 'now'
    • How conscious sexuality can be transformational
    • Sex and perimenopause
    • How the perimenopause gift of discernment helps us to really care for ourselves
    • Sophie’s self-care non-negotiables for a vibrant life

And of course,  a stonking top-tip to develop more body confidence

You can find Sophie on Instagram at @Sophie.Cleere

You can find out more about Sophie's journalling and self-love classes here

In the podcast, we mentioned Institute for shamanic temple Arts, ISHTA

  • Inside Consciousness with John Stirk

This episode is a mind-expanding stonker of a conversation with yoga teacher John Stirk. If you've ever meditated (or tried to) if you work with mind-body healing or have been to a yoga class, this is going to be fascinating.

If you’ve not come across him, John has been very influential in the yoga world. He started teaching yoga in 1974, and graduated as an osteopath in 1988, later becoming a fellow of the College of Osteopaths. He ran BodyMind workshops with R.D. Lang. and as well as being influenced by BKS Iyengar and Krishnamurti, also had personal tuition from Vanda Scaravelli. Ceasing osteopathy practice in 2000, John now focusses exclusively on group work. He’s recently published his fourth book ‘Deeper Still’ showing how we can find our inner teacher and all make this journey from sensation into expanded consciousness.

I’m your average, sometime-meditator, constantly distracted and no matter how much I long for peace, it is extremely elusive. Except in John’s classes, where almost nothing happens, with only tiny movements, but by the end, I find myself in an extraordinary, expanded state. I wanted to ask John why this was, how even a crazy-head-maginty like me, can reach a state of quiet bliss through sensing into the body.

    We cover:

    • What consciousness is
    • The Self and ego
    • The role of the skin in unifying the ego
    • How to calm our minds
    • How space can be our friend and connect and unifies us

    Mind. Blown.

You can find out about John’s classes and workshops here

And buy his new book Deeper Still here

  • Inside Prolapse with Jane Dancey

This week is all about the female pelvis and its healing, in which I have an honest chat with Jane Dancey about how she has found her own route to heal her prolapse.  She’s a somatic yoga coach and facilitator specialising in women’s well being, especially the pelvis, when it goes wrong as well as exploring the good stuff, like pleasure and sexuality. She shares her journey to find a juicy inner-life through practising and teaching yoga and the low-down on how to heal pelvic disfunction in a respectful and holistic way. Jane shares:

    • How somatic yoga was more helpful than therapy
    • Jane’s journey with a suspected prolapse
    • Steps to follow to regain pelvic health
    • Why the problem is more likely to be overtightening than a ‘weak’ pelvic floor
    • How to develop a better relationship with your vulva, vagina and perineum.
    • Understanding bodily based consent
    • Yoni eggs and when to use them
    • All about kegels and when they’re useful
    • Why awareness is key
    • What to wear for the very best pelvic health
    • The joy of having a tail… a different one every day
    • And of course Jane’s top tips for a  deliciously juicy inner life.

If you are experiencing any menstrual symptoms or pelvic pain that gives you concern, please go and get it checked out with your doctor, GP or specialist.

Jane has a helpful breathing practice to explore the relationship between the breathing diaphragm and the pelvic floor here and you can find out more about her Embodied Female Pelvis course here.

  • Inside Yoga with Catherine Annis

In this episode I have a wonderful conversation with Scaravelli inspired Yoga teacher and trainer Catherine Annis. I’ve been lucky enough to benefit from her classes over lockdown and have found them super-interesting because the focus is on our inside experience, not what the pose looks like. After a class when she was encouraging us to kind-of NOT follow her instructions, I really wanted to talk to her more.

I am so grateful Catherine was generous enough to lend her time.In our chat we ponder on:

    • How to move when your body doesn’t want to jump up and down any more
    • How therapists and teachers’ voices can penetrate and wound
    • Catherine’s dance training and how she came to yoga
    • How we internalise critical voices as real truths
    • How sexual trauma can be re-triggered from hip-opening
    • How to welcome more diversity and POC into yoga
    • Competition in the yoga studio
    • A great tip to empty your mind
    • And of course Catherine’s tippity top tip for a great inner world

You can find out more about Catherine's yoga teacher training here and her regular classes here

  • Trailer for Life - An Inside Job

At  Life - An Inside Job I aim to help you nourish your inner world and make it a great place to hang out, so your outer world can become more fun, meaningful and satisfying. I chat with fascinating teachers, creatives, therapists and ordinary people who use their interior experience to change their outer world. You’ll get the inside skinny on healing, how to manage mental and physical pain, how to balance your real-life outer world and make your inner world into the best kind of party.  A party even one person can enjoy.

Our reality is created on our insides, directly from our mind, beliefs and body sensation but until things go wrong, we barely give our inner life any attention at all

Truth is, we can tootle along focussing on trying to get a fancy car and a sexy partner and that’s fine until we meet trauma, illness or the next major life transition, and then the lack inner life starts to show as disconnection and emptiness.

If your head is a horrible place to hang out, you'll find out what you can do about it

Or, if you’re lucky and your insides are fantastic, how to bring more of that fantasticness into the outer world of relationships and shopping trollies.

I have been a personal growth junky since the age of 16, when my sis came back from one of those hard-core 80’s personal growth workshops. Thank god there was an age limit in place or my tender teenage self would have been stuffed!

Join me to listen to real, raw, juicy conversations with people who know their inside world; I‘ve got inspirational teachers, healers, and guides to life talking about what works. There are amazing artists talking about the creative process and how to let it flow and real people talking about their real lives and what really going on inside.

I can't wait to share their inner worlds with you.

Contact me through my Instagram or you can find out more about my work on my website where there is an abundance of free resources and information.

You will find the podcast on Spotify, iTunes and many more platforms soon. It would be wonderful if you would pop over to Spotify or iTunes to rate and subscribe to Life - An Inside Job to encourage more people to nourish their inner lives.
