The Philadelphia Phillies fell to the New York Mets, 5-1 and are now in danger of getting swept out of Citi Field.  

The Phillies were put in a rough spot early as Cristopher Sanchez was forced to call it an early night due to what the Phillies later announced was left forearm soreness. The lefty was done after just two innings as he needed 58 pitches to get six outs. He surrendered two earned runs on four hits and two walks during his outing.  

As for the offense, they did very little to pick up their pitchers. The Phillies left nine men on base throughout the night, including going 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

The Philadelphia Phillies lost to the New York Mets, 5-4 in their first meeting of the 2025 season.  

Aaron Nola started for the Phillies, still searching for his first win of the season and unfortunately he’s STILL searching! Nola tossed 6.1ip allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. He tried getting through 7 innings, but it was not in the cards. After retiring the first batter he faced in the 7th, he gave up back to back singles. Then Rob Thomson had seen enough and went to Jose Ruiz. Ruiz then surrendered a three-run homer to Francisco Lindor to make it a 5-0 Mets advantage. Two of those runs were charged to Nola.  

The Phillies Righty has some luck on his side early in the game, despite giving up two solo homers. He threw a MEATBALL to Juan Soto in the 3rd with two runners on. The play was called a three-run homer, but overturned as the ball was JUST foul. Then, in the 6th Nola had runner at the corners with one out. Jesse Winker then hit a ball on the screws, but right into the mitt of Bryce Harper who was able to double-off Brandon Nimmo at first.  

J.T. Realmuto’s RBI single in the 9th kept the Phillies from being shutout for the third time in 11 games, then Bryson Stott made it a one run game with a three-run homer. Trea Turner and Bryce Harper stepped to the plate in a one-run game, and both went down swinging to end the threat.

Jesus Luzardo tossed a gem over his 7 innings of work, allowing just two runs, one earned over his start. However, the Phils bullpen and defense prevented the lefty from getting his third win the season and prevented the Phillies from completing the sweep of Miami.  

The Phillies led 4-1, heading into the 7th inning with Luzardo still in the game. He induced a sharply hit inning ending double play ball, but instead of Bryce Harper fielding it and turning two, Harper let the ball go right under his mitt and into right field for a double. Then two batters later, with two outs now, Luzardo again induced another grounder, this one to Bryson Stott who let the ball go under hit mitt and off his foot allowing a run to score and the inning to continue. Luzardo would get out of the inning by getting his seventh and final strike out of the game. Despite Luzardo only being at 88 pitches, Rob Thomson decided his starter’s day was done and he went to the bullpen.  

Orion Kerkering came on in relief and surrendered a three-run homer for Javier Sanoja to give the Marlins a 5-4 lead in the 8th.

The Phillies were able to tie the game at 5 in the 8th, thanks mostly to a series of misplays by Miami’s second baseman Otto Lopez.

Matt Strahm pitched the 10th for the Phillies and allowed two runs to score.
