  • #136: Impotence Could Be the Best Thing that Ever Happened to You – Michael Russer and Jacqueline Lopez

Impotence is one of men’s greatest fears. But what if it didn’t have to be? What if it was the beginning of more pleasure and intimacy than you ever knew was possible?

    Show notes

It’s common for men to feel attached to their virility and masculinity. During sex this often looks like wanting to staying hard or maintain an erection.

Every man I know has at some point been afraid of letting a partner down, or feeling like less of a man, because of not having or keeping an erection. But what if I told you impotence could be the best thing that ever happened to you?

I know it seems hard to believe, even impossible, but today’s Man Alive podcast guest, Michael Russer, told me that if someone offered him a pill to fix his clinical impotence he wouldn’t take it! Michael and his partner Jacqueline Lopez are speakers and authors. They have one of the most inspiring relationships I’ve ever witnessed.

Michael has overcome more than most men will in a lifetime and he and Jacqueline have incredible wisdom to share as a result. This is a must listen for every man who thinks sexual pleasure and intimacy depends on an erection!

    In our conversation we discussed…

    * How being less phallus-centric opens up MORE pleasure and intimacy* How a seemingly awful experience could be an amazing gift for you* What’s possible in love and relationship when you become present and caring with each other* A tool for navigating conflict, hurt and upset that allows for smoother resolution* How Michael and Jacqueline create a thriving, passionate relationship

This is one of my favorite podcast conversations. I know how terrifying most men find impotence and erectile dysfunction. To see that this doesn’t have to be a death sentence, and in fact it can create more intimacy than you’ve ever had, makes me want every man to hear this and be free from dread and fear!

  • #134: Discover Your Erotic Blueprint – Ian Ferguson

If you’ve ever had a sex life fizzle, you’ve wondered how to create connection, aliveness and greater sexual pleasure! This episode is a must-listen whether you’re in a relationship or single to get powerful tools for more intimacy and an exciting sex life.

Today’s podcast will hopefully bring some excitement and pleasure into your Covid-19 sheltered life. I imagine you could use some of that. I know I could!

When you think back over your relationships, have you ever had a partner you loved, but even so had different sexual styles or desires?

Or have you had a partner with whom sex was hot at first, but faded over time?

Many people think of a fading sex life, the disappearance of the honeymoon phase, as the norm.

But it doesn’t have to be.

When chemistry wears off, couples tend to miss a powerful opportunity to learn more about each other!

Whether because of shame, fear or just not realizing they can, it’s rare for people to communicate about their sexual preferences. Then resentment builds and distance grows and this often goes unspoken. This does NOT create a sexually satisfying relationship.

Today’s Man Alive Podcast brings a very important tool for understanding your sexual style, as well as your partner’s (if you have one). Ian Ferguson, along with his Partner Jaiya, teaches about erotic types. They have a typing system called the Erotic Blueprint.

Ian believes that sexual incompatibility is actually a myth and that once you know your type, instead of helplessly watching your sex life fizzle, you can learn how to express what turns you on and off! This leads to more connection, aliveness and greater sexual pleasure!

In our podcast conversation we discussed:

    * What an Erotic Blueprint is and how to know which type you are* Why sexual incompatibility is a myth and how couples with different blueprints can be sexually satisfied* How single people can benefit from the Erotic Blueprints and why it’s better to learn this NOW, even without a partner!* The powerful and underlying stance that acts as a foundation for an exciting sex life* My Erotic Blueprint type

\nIn these challenging times, it’s common to feel more vulnerable than ever. \nWhether you’re alone or cooped up in a house with someone(s), you are bound to face some challenges. Challenges tend to expose our vulnerability.

\nThis doesn’t have to be a bad thing though.
    \n

\nWhile most of us don’t have getting vulnerable at the top of our “fun things to do” list, vulnerability is actually a powerful doorway to connection.

    \n
\nOn today’s Man Alive podcast I was joined by author and psychologist Susan Campbell. She has been helping people get vulnerable for 55 years, through her books, therapy sessions and workshops! We talked about how our current crisis brings up both physical and emotional vulnerability for people. We also discussed…
    \n
    \n
    \n
\n* What vulnerability actually is* How to work with the normal pains of adult relationships so they don’t destroy your connection* The best way to get your partner to open up and be vulnerable with you* How to use this time of massive change to  deepen your connection and love * An exercise that makes it easier for you to get real
    \n
    \n
    \n
\nMany of us, including myself, have a habit of defending ourselves or pulling away when we feel vulnerable.
    \n
    \n
    \n
\nThere is no right way to respond to intensity and things go a lot smoother when we can witness our patterns in the midst of stressful situations, rather than act out toward our loved ones.
    \n
    \n
    \n
\nI recently admitted to my partner: “It now seems clear that I deal with stress by becoming more protective and rigid.”

  • 8 Essential Conversations For Lasting Love – John Gottman

These days relationships are as likely to fall apart as they are to stay together.

It’s sad and I am constantly on the look out for relationship resources to make relationships stronger.

This week I found something you can do to make a relationship last that’s actually really simple!

Sure, there are parts of relationship that are complicated and take time and attention to address, but two well-respected psychologists, Drs. John and Julie Gottman, wrote a book that shares the incredible benefits that come from having a weekly date night!

They have done 47 years of research and tracked 3,000 couples, over decades. They know what they’re talking about!

A date night in itself is good for a relationship but you get even more benefit (more intimacy, fun, passion, etc.) from a date night that’s created around one of eight topics that are essential for lasting love.

On today’s Man Alive podcast Dr. John Gottman joined me to talk about:

    * The 8 most important conversations that help couples really get to know each other and navigate differences with care* The importance of letting go of defensiveness in making love last* How the simple act of having a date night each week could transform your relationship* How common it is for couples tend to spend hardly any time talking to each other these days, let alone talking about their relationship* Why it’s important to not shove your partner’s concerns under the rug — they will NOT go away!

The Gottmans have been a resource I have trusted for many years. I highly recommend checking out their books after listening to the podcast. If you’re in a relationship, or looking foe one, check out their new book first: Eight Dates: Essential Conversations for Lasting Love.
