It would be really remiss of me to not mention what’s going on in the United States right now, so I just want to start with that. I know it’s not my place to be speaking about racial inequality because I haven’t personally experienced it, but I understand that I have the privilege of having a platform where others might not.
So to continue to educate myself and others about the inequalities faced by POC and more specifically women of colour, I would love to hear any questions that women of colour have about their health care and PCOS, as that’s my area of expertise and I would love to help highlight that conversation.
If any of you know of any women of colour who are thought leaders or educators in this area, please let me know as I would love to collaborate with them in order to really elevate the conversation of racial bias and inequality against POC / women of colour in health. You can contact me either at [email protected] or on my Instagram @thepcosnutritionist.
For this week’s Mini PCOS Pod: If you’ve been on social media for any length of time, then I can guarantee you’ve seen more than your fair share of posts, influencers and companies promoting a detox is some shape or form.
Since women with PCOS are often targeted by those creating diet content, it’s not surprising that I’ve had so many questions around detoxing and whether it’s something that should be implemented by women with PCOS - or any woman for that matter.
It’s something that’s often talked about, but very rarely understood. So in today’s Mini PCOS Pod I wanted to unpack the whole ‘detox’ situation. What does it mean? What’s a toxic load and how do you lower it? What organs lead the detoxification process in your body and how do we support them? What I think about detox teas and products (spoiler alert: nooooot a fan)? What toxins should be aware of? Are there any good resources I should be looking at (answer is yes!)?
I really want to clear up all this detox misinformation so that you don’t waste your money on detox products to help your PCOS symptoms only to be on the toilet 24/7 and feel 1000x worse! And of course so you know more about how your body deals with toxins and what you can do to help your body.
