明代书画中的士人生活:震惊！明代文人也玩“INS式”商业互捧

The Ming Dynasty was the height of imperial power in China, the 14th century was a time of rapid economic and cultural development. The Long Museum West Bund in Shanghai is presenting 83 exhibits featuring paintings and calligraphy from the period, 20 of which are on public display for the first time. The exhibition is called“Emperor and Literati: Painting and Calligraphy from Ming Dynasty”, I explored some of the most valuable pieces. In the first episode, we'll have a look at how the social life of ancient Chinese intellectuals was recoded through art.

明朝是中国皇权的鼎盛时期，14世纪是一个经济和文化迅速发展的时期。上海龙美术馆（西岸馆）推出了“龙与士——明代中国的书法和绘画艺术特展”，展出明初到明末近三百年的书画文物83件（组），其中20组作品为首次公开亮相，我探索了其中一些极为珍贵的作品。在第一集中，我们将看到中国古代士大夫的社交生活如何通过艺术作品被记录下来。

龙与士, literally means Dragon and Literati. Long or“dragon”, is a symbol of the emperor. People believed in the power of the dragon as law of the universe, the emperor was considered the“true dragon and son of heaven” who rules the state and people. Shi means“literati”, or“intellectuals”, the groups of scholars, philosophers and politicians, who served in the imperial court. Most of the artists featured in this exhibition held a“Jinshi” degree, which is the highest and final degree in the imperial education. Understanding the complex tension between the imperial power and the scholar-literati class is key to understanding the social evolution of the Ming Dynasty.

龙与士，字面意思即“龙与士大夫”。“龙”是帝王的象征。古人们相信龙的强大力量是整个宇宙运行的法则，因此每个朝代的帝王都被认为是“真龙天子”。“士”指的是文人，知识分子，包括那些在朝廷中供职的学士、策士和术士。本次展览中的文人艺术家们大都获取过“进士”的功名；中国古代科举制度中，通过最后一级中央政府朝廷考试者，称为进士。因此，认识帝王和士大夫之间错综复杂的关系，是解读整个明代社会演变的关键。

China was one of the wealthiest countries in the world throughout the Ming Dynasty thanks to its agricultural productivity and commercial prosperity. Therefore, the culture of traveling, and literati gatherings were a large part of daily life for the upper-class. Handscrolls, fans and paintings were often given as gifts on a variety of occasions. They were a token of friendship and courtesy, and some paintings were also displayed for specific occasions and seasons, becoming an indispensable part of the upper-class lifestyle.

由于农业和贸易的繁荣发展，明朝时期的中国是世界上最为富庶的国家之一。因此，旅行和文人雅集成为了上层社会日常生活的一部分。手卷、扇子和绘画作品常常成为礼赠的选择。它们是友谊和礼节的象征，其中有些画作也会在一些特定的场合和时节展出，成为当时上层社会生活方式不可或缺的部分。

Tang Yin was one of the“Four Masters of Ming Dynasty”, his work“Farewell in Jinchang” showed a farewell scene by a river. Boats were the most popular method of transportation at the time, especially in Yangtze River region. Tang was accused of cheating on the imperial exam, he was then removed from office, and had to sell his paintings to make a living. This work was done during Tang’s twilight years, it shows a very mature and strong personal style.  

唐寅作为“明四家”之一，他的书画手卷《金阊送别图》展现了一幅江边的送别景象。在当时，尤其是在长江沿岸地区，船只是最普遍的旅行交通工具。唐寅因受科场舞弊案牵连而无法入仕，之后靠卖画为生。这幅作品是唐伯虎的晚年之作，展现出他极其精湛的技巧和强烈的个人风格。

“Initiation on Cattail Hassocks” began with a painting by Shen Zhou, that was paired with a poem by Wu Kuan. Many other members of the literati wrote poems with a similar rhythm in response to the original work. These poems were then added to the scroll until it eventually grew to this 10 meter long masterpiece of art and literature.  

《蒲墩倡和图》引首为“明四家”中的另一位沈周题写的“蒲墩倡和”四字，其后为其所绘设色盈尺小幅画卷，接好友吴宽首倡的蒲墩诗一首及跋语。接着，数十位文人“和诗”其后，最终形成了这幅十余米长的设色手卷。

When you think about it, it's kind of like what we do today with a social media post, a single image can create a string of comments, or a discussion. But⋯there is a slight difference, each comment had to include a rhyming sequence.

可以想象，这“和诗”就有点类似于我们在社交媒体上发帖，一张图片就能引发一连串的评论和讨论。但这里还有一点点区别，就是这些文人的每句“评论”，都需要押同样的韵脚。

The farewell scene was a popular theme in literati's artistic works due to the economic and commercial prosperity of Ming Dynasty. China had a population of nearly 70 million in the early days of the Ming Dynasty and it increased by nearly 80 million, reaching 150 million by the late Ming. This prosperity led to travel becoming an important part of life. Also, officials had to travel to take up new posts; they would gather their friends before departure; they wrote poems and said goodbye to each other. So, the“farewell scene” is quite common in Ming Dynasty paintings and people also found that creating such paintings helped to strengthen or establish interpersonal relationships. Painting became a crucial way to recording events and communicating.  

“送别”主题的兴起是跟明代的这种商业的经济的繁荣有巨大关系。明代在明初的时候，中国大概有7,000万人口，到明末的时候就到了1.5亿，增加了将近8,000万。那么繁荣的一个结果是导致什么？就导致旅行的发生，就是大家把旅游这件事情变得越来越成为人们生活当中的一个重要的部分，一个是旅行，第二个就是官员有的时候他会去从一个地方到一个地方去当官。那么当官临走之前，他的朋友们就他自己实际上他自己张罗的这个事情就是找了很多好朋友过来记录这个事情，然后每个人都写上自己的诗文，然后为他送别。所以明代的送别图的兴盛，它只是表明这种事情，在明代尤其发达。大家突然可以发现可以通过送别图来去巩固一种人际关系，或者是创造一种人际关系。绘画成为一个重要的沟通媒介和一个记录媒介。

President Xi Jinping yesterday held talks with visiting Honduran President Iris Xiomara Castro Sarmiento in Beijing, pledging to work with Honduras to steer relations from a strategic【战略的】and long-term perspective. Zhang Hong has more.   

国家主席习近平昨天（06/12）在北京同来华进行国事访问的洪都拉斯总统卡斯特罗举行会谈，并承诺与洪都拉斯合作，从战略高度和长远角度引领两国关系发展。记者张泓带来更多报道。 

Xi said the bilateral relationship has started well, showing great dynamism【活力】and promise since March, when diplomatic relations were established. He expressed his readiness to work with the Honduran president from a strategic and long-term perspective for greater development.

习近平指出，今年3月中国同洪都拉斯建立外交关系以来，两国关系快速起步、开局良好。中国愿同洪都拉斯一道，从战略高度和长远角度引领和推动双边关系深入发展。

Xi noted that the one-China principle is the top prerequisite and political foundation for the establishment of diplomatic ties and voiced China's staunch support for Honduras' efforts to safeguard national sovereignty【主权】 and independence, promote development, and improve people's livelihoods. Xi said China will support the entry of specialty products from Honduras into the Chinese market, and is willing to negotiate a free trade agreement. He added that Beijing is willing to work with Honduras and other Latin American and Caribbean countries to advance the China-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States Forum.

Castro said establishing diplomatic relations with China is the Honduran government's historic choice, noting her country firmly supports and abides by the one-China principle, and resolutely supports the Chinese government's efforts for national reunification. She said Honduras looks forward to enhancing cooperation with China in trade, investment, infrastructure, telecommunications, energy, science and technology.　　

卡斯特罗表示，同中国建交是洪都拉斯政府作出的历史性抉择。洪方坚定支持并遵守一个中国原则，坚定支持中国政府为实现国家统一所作的努力。洪方期待同中方加强贸易、投资、基础设施、电信、能源和科技等领域合作。

TheChinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention said the outbreak ofhuman metapneumovirus, or HMPV, in the United States has a limited impact on China.

中国疾病预防控制中心表示，在美国爆发的人偏肺病毒（HMPV）疫情对我国影响有限。

The center said HMPVinfectionsspiked this spring in the U.S., but haddeclined rapidly sincelate April. It noted that summer weatherconditions are not suitable for thevirus tospread. After analyzing respiratory infectious diseases from 2009 to 2019, the Chinese CDC found that HMPV was thelastamong eight viruses causing acute respiratory【呼吸的】 illness, with a positive rate of 4 percent, far lower than that of influenza which is 28.5 percent.

中疾控表示，今年春天美国的HMPV感染率激增，但自4月下旬开始，由于夏季气候条件不适宜病毒传播，HMPV感染率持续快速下降。中疾控对2009至2019年呼吸道传染病监测数据分析表明，在引起急性呼吸道感染的8种病毒中，人偏肺病毒排名第8位，阳性率占比为4%，远低于流感病毒的28.5%。

3.CHINA SLAMS JAPAN'S NUCLEARWASTEWATER DISCHARGE TESTS

外交部：敦促日方停止强行推进核污染水排海计划

After Tokyo Electric Power Company, operator of the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant, began tests of their nuclear wastewater discharging system. One Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson condemned the act. Sun Siqi has the story.

昨天（06/12）起，日本东京电力公司开始试运行福岛核污染水的排海设施。中国外交部发言人汪文斌今天（06/13）指责日方。记者孙思琪带来详细报道。

Tokyo Electric Power Company started a trial operation yesterday, which is expected to last two weeks. The Japanese government has argued that the purified "treated water" is no different than normal discharge water from a nuclear power plant.

东京电力公司昨天开始试运行岛核污染水排海设施，预计将持续两个星期。日本政府辩称，净化后的“处理水”与核电站的正常排放水没有区别。

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said today that Japan has yet to prove that discharging the wastewater into the ocean is safe. He added that data released by Japan have shown close to 70 percent of the treated nuclear wastewater failed to meet regulatory standards.

中国外交部发言人汪文斌今天表示，日本迄今未能证明核污染水排海安全无害。他指出日方自己公布的数据显示，近70%处理后的核污染水仍不达标。

Wang said Japan coined the term "treated" to whitewash the potential risks of such discharge.
日本创造了“处理”的概念，以掩盖核污染水排海的潜在风险。

The spokesperson said the effectiveness and maturity of Japan's purification facilities have not been assessed and certified by a third party. The discharge can last 30 years or longer, with more new wastewater being generated along the way.

汪文斌表示，日方有关净化装置的有效性和成熟度没有经过第三方的评价和认证。日方排海将持续30年甚至更久，这期间还将新产生大量的核污染水。

“The Japan side cannot take the final assessment report by the IAEA as a safety pass for nuclear wastewater discharge. In fact, the panel had limited authorization, and was not able to assess any alternative wastewater disposal solutions. No report of any kind should be used as excuse for Japan to dump nuclear wastewater into the sea.”

Wang added that China strongly urges Japan to stop pushing forward with the discharge, and to adequately assess the alternative solutions for the wastewater's disposal. He said Japan should dispose of the wastewater in a safe and transparent manner, and accept supervision from the international community.

汪文斌表示，中方强烈敦促日方停止强行推进排海计划，充分研究论证排海以外的处置方案，切实以安全、透明的方式处置核污染水，并接受严格国际监督。

上影节首推观影“超感试验场”亮相普陀

People in Shanghai have the chance to experience how technologies are being integrated with film-making during the Shanghai International Film Festival. This 'vision lab' was set up for people to see how Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Extended Reality are shaping the movie industry and our future as well. Reporter Zhang Yue was there and tried out some of them.

上海国际电影节期间，市民有机会体验到了科技如何与电影制作相结合。“视觉实验室”的设立是为了让人们看到了虚拟现实、增强现实和扩展现实正在如何塑造电影行业以及我们的未来。记者张乐在现场进行了体验。

At the Push Art Center in Putuo district, a twist on 'the Journey to the West' was created. This Virtual Reality version of the 170-year-old story was designed to be more futuristic【未来主义的】. The motion capture system monitors the movements and gestures of the actor in real time and sends the data into the computer. Once in the system, the actor's appearance and voice can be changed and modified with just a few keystrokes and mouse clicks.

普陀区Push艺术中心现场展示了一部灵感源自《西游记》的VR戏剧《浮生一刻》。这一流传了170年的历史故事在虚拟现实技术的加持下充满了未来感。动作捕捉系统实时监控演员的动作和手势，并将数据传送至计算机。演员一旦进入系统，只需敲击几下键盘和点击几下鼠标就可以改变其外形和声音。

“I do think the latest technology will enable new possibilities for film industries and entertainment industry. Although I do believe that AR, VR, or mixed reality will be working and moving forward in parallel with the film industry because I do think there are different formats. I think one of the most challenging thing is that people have to cope up with how technology moving forward, we have to kind of learn and cope with the technology right now in order to see what they will be able to you know provide us with, because we cannot learn as quickly as machines.”

People can feel like they are diving deep into the ocean and dance with jelly fish, or climb the Alps or even blast off into outer space.

30 movies are available during the film festival, including six national debuts. One of the most popular attractions is the four-player, mixed reality game 'Eggscape'. The game is a collaboration between Sandman Studio and 3dar from Argentina, and won the Gold Lion Award at the 2022 Venice Film Festival.

电影节期间将放映30部电影，其中6部为全国首映。本次展览中最受欢迎的景点之一是四人混合现实游戏“超级捣蛋”。这款游戏由桑德曼工作室和阿根廷3dar公司合作开发，并在2022年威尼斯电影节上获得金狮奖。

These VR headsets provide a 360-degree view of the movie, so you can be fully immersed in the experience, and be part of the action instead of just watching. Interactivity might be the top reason why more and more people are getting into VR, as viewer can make choices that impact the storyline【故事情节】 and outcome of the movie.

“We are also showcasing more than ten VR devices, so that people can be more immersed in movies and games. Dome-screen movies are also available here, as well as interactive dancing. We want people to really walk into movie and be part of it.”

Research institute Omdia estimates that total consumer spending on VR devices and content is expected to reach 7.5 billion US dollars by 2026, and more than 70 million VR headsets will be used globally. The institute added that VR hardware and software value will increase to 16 billion US dollars in 2026 from 6.4 in 2021.

据研究机构Omdia估计，到2026年，消费者在VR设备和内容上的总支出预计将达到75亿美元，全球VR头显使用量将达到7000万个。此外，VR硬件和软件市值将从2021年的64亿美元增加到160亿美元。

2.MAJOR COMMERCIAL BANKS DROP THEIR RENMINBI DEPOSIT RATES

Twelve Chinese commercial banks announced interest rates cut on a range of yuan deposits today, following a similar move by the country's 6 state-owned lenders last week.

继上周六大国有银行宣布下调部分存款利率之后，今天，中国12家商业银行也陆续宣布下调人民币存款利率。

The banks including China Merchants Bank, China Citic Bank and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank cut rates on demand deposits to 0.2 percent, the same size reductions that were announced by the state banks on Thursday. Rates of fixed deposits were cut by from 5 to 15 basis points. The highest interest rate offered by the commercial banks after the cut will be 2.8 percent for five-year time deposits.The deposit rate cuts are the second within a year, with previous action taken in September 2022. Analysts expect the cuts will ease pressure on bank profit margins, and so provide room for further reserve requirement rate cuts by the country's central bank to release more funding into the economy.

Novak Djokovic created tennis history yesterday when he clinched a record 23rd Grand Slam【大满贯】 men's singles title after beating Casper Ruud of Norway to win the French Open. He is now the only male player to have won each of the 4 Slams at least three times. Sun Siqi has more.

Financial and economic experts from around the world continued to share insights and offer their solutions to the big issues facing the global economy on the second day of the Lujiazui Forum here in Shanghai. Today the focus was on avoiding risks, and maintaining growth in a world of high interest rates and inflation【通货膨胀】. Timothy Pope reports.

上海陆家嘴论坛第二天，来自世界各地的金融和经济专家继续就全球经济面临的重大问题分享见解并提出解决方案。今天（06/09）的重点是防范风险，以及如何在高利率和高通胀中保持增长。记者Timothy Pope报道。

The theme of this year's forum is global cooperation and new drivers of economic recovery. China is betting on consumption to be its main driver. But this year that's faced challenges in stimulating consumer spending. Consumer inflation for May stood at just 0.2 percent, indicating plenty of room for growth.

今年陆家嘴论坛的主题是“全球金融开放与合作：引导经济复苏的新动力”。中国目前将消费作为经济复苏主要驱动力，但今年在刺激消费支出方面面临着挑战。5月份CPI同比上涨0.2%，表明消费支出仍有很大增长空间。

“The steps we have seenactuallyjust two days ago, on some of the deposit rates to be lowered are the right signs and the good thing about the Chinese economy, it almost reliably responds to interest rate adjustments. Actually way more than most other economies I've seen in my life-and I've seen a few-so the encouraging thing is that interest rate signals do work through the economy, really fast, really reliably, and that's why I'm optimistic.”

The global economy is facing severalrisks.Soaring interest rates, inflation, geopolitical tensions and the perception that recession【衰退】 is inevitable for the US and Europe. But do those perceptions reflect theeconomic reality?

全球经济正面临着若干挑战。利率飙升、通货膨胀、地缘政治紧张，以及有人预测美国和欧洲将出现不可避免的经济衰退。但这些看法是否符合现实经济状况呢？

“Looking at the U.S., after almost every round of interest rate hikes, the U.S. has faced recession. Recently, survey analyses by several institutions have shown that a recession in the U.S. this year and early next year is already a probable event, which will also bring spillover effects to other countries.”

How big those spillover effects will be is still very much a matter for debate, especially for China, where fiscal and monetary policies haven't seen the same seismic【地震的；重大的】changes as Western Economies.

这些溢出效应会有多大仍然是一个非常值得讨论的问题。特别是对中国来说，中国的财政和货币政策还没有出现像西方经济体那样的重大变化。

“As a transformation is going on, it's a matter of adjustment to speed up the transformation from export-led to import-led, so I don't think China will get anywhere close to a recession.While, I think clearly is China has started the process to come from an export-led to a domestic demand economy. That process of adjustment is not even close to being completed and it's a natural thing in such a process that you have adjustments on the external side go ahead of adjustments on the internal side.”

“中国经济正在转型，加快从出口主导到进口主导的转变只是一个调整的问题，所以我认为中国不会出现经济衰退。目前，中国已经开始了从出口导向型经济向内需型经济转型的进程，这一过程还远未完成。因此，在这个过程中，外部的调整先于内部的调整是一件很自然的事情。”

Several forum delegates said they expect any recession in the US or Europe this year to be mild and brief, which would allow those economies to tackle inflation, and limit the impact of a global slowdown on China.

几位论坛代表表示，但愿今年可能出现在美国或欧洲的经济衰退是温和且短暂的，这样，这些经济体才能够应对通货膨胀，从而减少全球经济增速放缓对中国的影响。

Ten years after a giant inflatable bright yellow duck captivated crowds in Hong Kong, the art installation returned to Victoria Harbor today. It's grown bigger, and brought a Friend. Sun Siqi takes a look at the art work.

The mighty duck twins set sail from the landmark Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center around noon and stopped to nest near Tamar Park in Central. The comedic sight attracted a crowd of viewers.

中午时分，这对巨型双胞胎橡皮鸭从地标建筑香港会议展览中心下水出发，并在中环添马公园海面正式展出。充满喜感的大黄鸭引得一众游客前来观看。

Inflating the 18-meter floats took 4 hours. The public art installation by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman waslast exhibited in Hong Kong in 2013 and drew crowds of millions. The mood lifting birds resemble the rubber duckies many people played with in bubble baths when they were children. The inspiration for the double-the-fun stint also comes from the Chinese saying "Good things come in pairs".

给这个18米高的巨型橡皮鸭充气需要4个小时。大黄鸭出自荷兰艺术家霍夫曼之手，曾在2013年于香港展出，当时吸引了数百万市民及游客。让人心情愉悦的大黄鸭和许多人小时候泡澡时玩的橡皮鸭子十分相像。“橡皮鸭二重畅”的灵感则来自于中国谚语“好事成双”。

Shanghai today became the first city in the country to give license plates to 15 driverless vehicles, a new stage in the testing process. Sun Siqi takes a look at the trucks, cabs, and buses as tests continue in suburban Lingang.

今天（06/08），上海成为中国首个为15辆无人驾驶车辆颁发车牌的城市，这是无人路测过程中的一个全新阶段。测试在临港新片区持续进行，本台记者孙思齐带大家一起看看卡车、出租车和公交车的路测现场。

Four months after Pudong released a new regulation on autonomous driving, license plates were given to 15 autonomous vehicles. There’re the heavy duty trucks made by Utopilot that run tests on Donghai Bridge.

在浦东发布新的自动驾驶法规4个月后，15辆自动驾驶车辆获得了牌照。由友道智途（Utopilot）制造的重型卡车正在东海大桥上进行测试。

According to previous regulations, these trucks had to have 2 operators on board. Now the company is allowed to test them with the operator steering【驾驶】 them remotely.

根据以前的规定，重型卡车车内必须有两名操作员。现在，该公司可以让操作员远程驾驶，进行无人路测。

And the same is true for driverless cabs. They've been tested on 8 kilometers of roads that circle Dishui Lake.

And get ready to pay -- the license allows these vehicles to operate commercially, which means the 3 driverless sightseeing test buses that had been free now cost 1 yuan per ride.

The tests you see today are backed by servers in Lingang that offer superior computational power not seen in other districts. Andthat’s part of the city officials’ plan for Lingang to become the area to test smart infrastructure.

2.LUJIAZUI FORUM DISCUSSES SHANGHAI'S FTZ INNOVATIONS, PROMISING MORE

One of the main topics at the Lujiazui Forum today was enhancing the functions of Shanghai’s free trade zone and high-level financial reform. Our reporter Zhang Shixuan was at the plenary【全体出席的】session this afternoon.  

今日（06/08）陆家嘴论坛的主要议题之一，是上海自由贸易区的功能提升和高水平金融改革。本台记者张诗旋下午参加了全体会议。

The afternoon session heard speeches from the heads of international financial authorities and institutions as well as from professional economists. All spoke highly of the development of the financial services within the free trade zone.

下午的会议听取了国际金融机构和国际金融权威人士以及专业经济学家的讲话。他们都高度赞扬了自由贸易区内金融服务的发展。

“It deepened our ties with China. We had existing relationships with sovereign wealth funds and insurance companies, and we deepened those ties and relationships. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the first of its kind in the country. Since then, it has become a leader in the country’s reform and opening-up not only in the trade sector, but also inthe financial field, as is being demonstrated and highlighted at this year's Lujiazui Forum. The dense gathering of foreign investment, trade, and industrial innovations has made it a natural environment for innovative financial services, especially cross-border ones. For the past decade, the financial market has been exploring new possibilities for new services-bonds, cash pools and insurance… These achievements have laid a solid foundation for future progress. But the question now is, for the upcoming decade, how will they become part of the widely-applied financial services in the area, and even outside the free trade zone?

今年是中国（上海）自由贸易试验区建立十周年，它是国内首个自由贸易试验区。自建立以来，它不仅在贸易领域，也在金融领域成为中国改革开放的领导者，这一点在今年陆家嘴论坛中也得到了展示和强调。国外投资、贸易和工业创新的密集聚集使其拥有创新金融服务，尤其是跨境金融服务的天然环境。在过去的十年里，金融市场一直在寻求新的服务可能性，如债券、现金池和保险等。这些成就为未来的进一步发展奠定了坚实的基础。但现在的问题是，未来十年，它们将如何成为该地区乃至自由贸易区外广泛应用的金融服务的一部分呢？

“要想进一步大幅度扩大上海国际金融中心建设，着力点可能还是要放在资本市场的主力产品，例如股票、债券、外汇、信贷以及支付等方面，更大程度的市场开放，那么就要求显著提高人民币自由使用的程度，提高人民币可兑换的水平，进一步改革外汇管理体制，实现自由使用和自由兑换也不是意味着100%。因此人民币自由使用和可兑换实现之时，要注意，它会引起国际收支平衡，汇率形成机制的这些问题的关切。”

“To promote the construction of Shanghai's International Financial Center, the primary effort should be on the main products in the capital market, such as stocks, bonds, foreign currency, credit loans, and payments. Increasing the market's opening requires improving the degree of free use of the renminbi, and the level of convertibility of the RMB. That means we have to further reform the foreign currency management mechanism. But that doesn't mean 100% free use or convertibility. So, in doing this we need to be able to handle problems such as international balances and the mechanism by which the exchange rate is set.”

Zhou stressed in his speech the fact that China now has close connections with the Belt and Road countries, which have companies with promising development prospects but no way to make IPO listings. He said the further liberalization of renminbi use could also help high-quality foreign companies list in Shanghai by using China Depository Receipts. Other delegates emphasized different aspects of China's liberalization and how they could also help the host country.  

周小川在演讲中强调了中国现在与一带一路国家之间的紧密联系，这些国家的企业有发展前景，但却没有上市的途径。他表示，借助中国存托凭证进一步推动人民币国际化，也可以帮助高质量的外国企业在上海上市。其他代表也强调了中国不同方面的自由化以及它们能够如何帮助东道国。

“I think as it moves forward now, there are further great opportunities, probably the greatest of which is the engagement in the climate change and net zero campaign. This is a global challenge and China and Shanghai have a particularly strong role to play as the biggest emitters. And we want to work very much with London on this going forward.”

“我认为随着自贸区的发展，还有进一步的巨大机遇，其中最重要的可能是参与气候变化和净零排放行动。这是一个全球性挑战。中国是最大的碳排放国，在这个方面，中国和上海发挥着特别重要的作用。我们希望（上海）与伦敦在这方面进行深入合作。”

China now has more than 20 pilot free trade zones, and Shanghai as the forerunner has provided much experience for the others. Ge Haijiao, Chairman of the Bank of China said that the zone in Shanghai has generated and provided more than 300 regulatory innovations, and that the bank is now working to strike a balance between financial sector liberalization and keeping risks at bay.

中国已经设立了20多个自由贸易试验区，作为先行者的上海为其他试验区提供了丰富的经验。中国银行董事长葛海蛟表示，上海的自贸区已经产生并提供了300多项监管创新，该银行目前正在努力在金融业自由化和风险控制之间取得平衡。

Data from the People's Bank of China shows that in March this year, the 96 banks in Shanghai reporting cross-border renminbi settlements handled a trade volume worth more than 2 trillion yuan.

EXIT-ENTRY BUREAU UPDATES SERVICES TO BENEFIT EXPATS & STUDENTS

上海推出入境管理便民措施，惠及外籍人士和学生

The Shanghai Exit-Entry Bureau has handled more than 2.28 million passport renewals and applications for Chinese citizens over the first five months of this year, and over 14% increase compared to the same time in 2019. The bureau said today that paper work will be streamlined【精简】for expats【旅居国外者】working and living in the city, and that one branch will remain open longer on three days to help Chinese families get passports for their kids. Zhang Yue tells us more.

今年前五个月，上海市公安局出入境管理局共受理护照换发与申请228万证次，较2019年同期增长超14%。该局今日（6月7日）表示，将简化在本市工作、生活的外籍人士办证材料，并将在一办证大厅开设三场办证夜间专场，便于一些家庭为孩子办理出入境证件。记者张乐带来详细报道。

In the past, expats holding a type B work permit were required to go to both the Shanghai Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and the Exit-Entry Bureau to renew their residential and work permits. Now both can be done at five of its locations in Shanghai.

过去，持有B类工作许可的外籍人士需要分别前往上海市外国专家局和出入境管理局续签居留和工作许可。现在，在上海的五个办证大厅，这两项手续可单次完成办理。

“Starting today, expats holding a type B work permit can go the bureau in Zhangjiang, Lingang, Waigaoqiao, Minhang and Qingpu to get two permits without visiting the Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs. The two permits will be issued at the same time within seven work days.”

Foreigners invited by Chinese companies for urgent business trips can apply for a business visa at whichever airport they land at in the city.

受中方企业邀请来华进行紧急商务出差的外国人可在抵达上海后于落地机场口岸申请商务签证。

The bureau said it had handled more than 30,000 visa applications every Saturday over the past four weeks. Among them, around 10,000 were for teenagers, ten times more than the average weekday number.

As more parents plan overseas trips with their children this summer, the bureau on Minsheng Road in Pudong will remain open for extra three hours on June 9th, June 16th, and June 21st to serve families with children.

The bureau is also working with the Shanghai Big Data Center and Shanghai Education Commission to share online information, so that it will be easier for officers to get access to the registration information of college students from other provinces on the mainland.

We will still get the service done even if we haven't found the online information of some students, as they can hand them in later to save some time.”

The bureau added that from January to May, it had renewed more than 420,000 passports for Chinese citizens, up 6.8 times from the same period in 2019, and had issued 1.86 million passports.

Around 54,000 high school students in Shanghai sat the first day of the college entrance exam today at 110 test-sites around the city. Parents and teachers were cheering them on. Tang Xiaofan has more.

This year's college entrance exam is the first after China adjusted its COVID-19 response measures. All test sites are equipped with both smart security gates and handheld metal detector.

The exam includes four tests and will run through Friday. More than 3,000 police were on duty to guide traffic. Temporary parking sites were made available around test sites and traffic police patrolling on motorcycles were also dispatched【派遣】 for potential emergencies.

China’s total imports and exports expanded 4.7 percent year-on-year to 16.77 trillion yuan in the first five months of 2023, according to the latest official data.

据最新官方数据，今年前五个月，我国货物贸易进出口总值为16.77万亿元，同比增长4.7%。

The General Administration of Customs reported today that exports grew 8.1 percent to 9.62 trillion yuan in the first five months compared with the same period last year, while imports rose 0.5 percent to 7.15 trillion yuan. In U.S. dollar terms, total foreign trade for the period came-in at 2.44 trillion dollars, down 2.8 percent year-on-year. ASEAN remained China's largest trading partner during the five-month period, with total trade-value coming-in at 2.59 trillion yuan, accounting for 15.4 percent of China's total foreign trade. The data released today also showed that total imports and exports to countries participating in the Belt-and-Road Initiative amounted to 5.78 trillion yuan in the first five months, up 13.2 percent year-on-year.

Today, China's first domestically-made large cruise ship left its dock【码头】 in Shanghai, which means more than 93% of its construction has been completed.Then, it will begin another round of preparations for its first trial voyage scheduled for mid July.

中国首艘自主建造的大型邮轮今日（06/06）在上海顺利出坞，这意味着其建造工作已完成93%以上。接下来，它将为计划于7月中旬进行的首次试航开始新一轮的准备工作。

The state-owned conglomerate and the world's largest shipbuilder CSSC signed an agreement on the design and construction of two 135,500-metric ton Vista-class cruise ships with Carnival Corp and Fincantieri in November 2018. Construction of the ship started in 2019 at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, and a series of technological innovations have been made during the construction process.

The new site of the National Natural History Museum was unveiled in Beijing yesterday. Lei Shuran has the story.

Formerly known as the Beijing Museum of Natural History, the museum is next to the Temple of Heaven in central Beijing.

国家自然博物馆，由北京自然博物馆更名而来，毗邻天坛。

The country's only state-level comprehensive natural museum covers a floor space of 23,000 square meters. The museum now contains more than 370,000 specimens including the most rare ones in the country. The museum's director says they will continue to collect more specimens, play an important role in scientific research, create learning programs, and strengthen international communication.

这座中国唯一的国家级、综合性自然博物馆，现有建筑面积2万3千多平方米，馆藏藏品37万多件，包括全国珍稀标本。博物馆馆长表示，他们将继续收集更多的标本，在科学研究中发挥重要作用，创建学习项目，加强国际交流。

What's inside the 1st Home-made Large Cruise Ship?

This is China’s first domestically made large, advanced cruise ship, marking another milestone for the country's shipbuilding industry. Workers have been busy around the clock making final preparations for the ship to leave its dock on June 6th.

“这个难度在我经历的这么多项目当中难度是最大的。试航文件就有一两百份，而且里面的试航的这个环节也非常多。最大的难点在于收工结尾，因为很多非常琐碎的事情需要去考虑的非常周全。”

"This project is the hardest of all the projects that I've undertaken. There are 100 to 200 trial voyage documents, with many processes required. The biggest difficulty is about the final tasks, which are usually full of trivial work that needs a lot of care and effort."

This is the standard guest stateroom. Some even have a balcony - at sea the view can be spectacular. 

The day I visited the shipbuilder was just 2 days before the ship's undocking, and the team was conducting safety tests for all 20 lifeboats. It was very cool seeing the small boats floating around the immense ship.  

The 16-deck ship also has space for shopping areas, art galleries, water parks and other recreational facilities, which we didn't have a chance to see because final construction was still going on.  

85% of the ship’s interior decorations have now been completed. By the time of its delivery, which is scheduled at the end of the year, it will be able to accommodate more than 5,200 passengers. Can’t wait to see it set sail.

1.RCEP NOW IN EFFECT FOR ALL 15 MEMBERS

RCEP对15个成员国全面生效

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement entered into force for the Philippines today, confirming that the world's biggest free trade agreement is now in effect for all 15 members. Ying Junyi has more.

今天（06/02），区域全面经济伙伴关系协定(RCEP)对菲律宾生效。这标志着RCEP对15个成员国全面生效。记者应骏一带来更多报道。

Signed on Nov 15, 2020 and in effect for signatories as from Jan 1st last year, the RCEP agreement groups together the ten members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, along with China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. Covering roughly 30 percent of the world's gross domestic product and population, the agreement will gradually eliminate tariffs on at least 90 percent of traded goods among its members. The Ministry of Commerce said that the full implementation of the agreement will support Asia's regional economic integration and development.

2020年11月15日，东盟10国和中国、日本、韩国、澳大利亚、新西兰共同签署RCEP，协定于2022年1月1日正式生效。RCEP成员国总人口和GDP均占全球总量约30%，协定生效后区域内90%以上的产品将逐步实现零关税。商务部表示，RCEP的全面生效将助力亚洲区域经济一体化发展。

All these will promote the optimization, integration【整合】and improvement of the economic and trade rules in the region.”

Those sentiments were echoed by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which earlier said the agreement will encourage trade in the region. Combined with China's Belt and Road Initiative which supports infrastructure construction, Southeast Asian Nations are likely to see strong economic growth in the future.

According to the General Administration of Customs, China's total trade with other RCEP members grew by 7.3 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of this year, accounting for nearly a third of the country's total trade during the period.

Shanghai International Film Festival tickets went on sale at noon today with some popular movies selling out within minutes. Tang Xiaofan has the story.

今天（06/02）中午，第25届上海国际电影节正式开票，一些热门影片出票即“秒光”。记者唐晓帆带来详细报道。

Popular films including the 1987 historical epic "The Last Emperor" and the 1986 Hong Kong action-thriller "A Better Tomorrow" were sold out within a few minutes. In just an hour, 309,000 tickets for 425 screenings were sold on the ticketing website Taopiaopiao, accounting for almost one-third of the festival's 1,200 screenings. About 256,000 moviegoers purchased tickets online during the period.

包括1987年的历史史诗《末代皇帝》和1986年的香港动作惊悚片《英雄本色》在内的热门影片几分钟内就被抢购一空。开票仅1小时，票务网站“淘票票”的出票量就达到了30.9万张，售罄场次425场，占本届电影节总场次（1200场）近三分之一。超过25万人同时在线投入抢票大战。

Participating cinemas started selling tickets at 2pm today. Many film buffs lined up early in the afternoon at Shanghai Film Art Center to try their luck.

“It's really difficult to get a ticket. Many were sold out in just a few seconds. But it's much easier to buy tickets for some niche films. I've bought six tickets.”

86-year-old Mr. Li bought two tickets for the Japanese drama "Winny". He said being part of the film festival is more important to him than which movie he sees.

“The film I want to see most is "A City of Sadness", which others recommend. We are so excited as we haven't seen a film at the cinema for a long time.”

A mix of classics and new movies will be screened at 41 cinemas in Shanghai including Shanghai Film Art Center, Paradise Warner Cinema City and Wanping Theater. Shanghai Film Art Center has just reopened after about 15 months of renovations and features Asia's first Dolby auditorium【礼堂】 with more than 1,000 seats.

经典影片和新影片将在上海国际电影节的41家指定展映影院放映，包括上海电影艺术中心、上海永华电影城和宛平剧院。经过15个月左右的焕新升级，上海电影艺术中心重新开业，“千人大厅”升级为亚洲首个“千人杜比剧场”。

'Fun in the woods' at the entrance of Xintiandi on Taicang Road allows passers-by to interact with the installation. The 'woods' are composed of plastic 'branches' and 'leaves' that can be disassembled and stuck back together. You can create some shade to get out of the sun, or make yourself a chair to sit on.

位于太仓路新天地入口处的“林趣”可以实现路人与装置互动。这片“树林”是由塑料“树枝”和“树叶”组成，路人可以将其拆卸并重新粘贴，可以粘成“树荫”遮挡阳光或制作一把椅子用于休息。

“When visitors feel tired, they can easily take these pieces off and set them however they like. This is why this installation is never the same, its shape is constantly changing. We wanted to create something more practical, not just something pretty to take pictures with.”

Many installations were made with sustainable materials, including recycled plastic bottles, and polycarbonate to show support for an eco-friendly future.

“许多本地设计师很少有机会在公众面前展示才华，除非他们参与一个大型建筑项目。我们一直在做的就是为年轻设计师创造一个施展才华的舞台，希望新天地设计节后会有更多的机会。”

“Many local designers rarely have the chance to showcase their talent in public, unless they participate in a major architecture project. What we have been doing is to create a stage for young designers to shine. Hopefully, more opportunities will come to them after the festival.”

Some of the installations have been set up at a subway entrance, or narrow Shikumen alley, creating a surprise for passers-by. Xintiandi management hopes that the place can become more than just a tourism hot spot or shopping zone, they'd like to see it become a place for cultural enrichment.

一些装置设置在地铁口或狭窄的石库门小巷，为路人创造惊喜。新天地管理层希望这里不仅是一个热门景点或购物区，还能成为一个充满文化气息的地带。

“We do have some forum and exhibition so that people can actuallymingle【交流】 and understand the philosophy from the creators. At the same time we got a very big market in Xintiandi Style II, and this time altogether we've got 70 booths selling some interesting stuff and creative artwork from different part of China.”

Since the Xintiandi Design Festival was launched in 2017, over 100 installations by artists from home and abroad have been displayed across the trendy downtown area. There have also been several seminars and forums for designers to communicate with each other. This year's Xintiandi Design Festival runs until June 25th.

自2017年新天地设计节启动以来，已有来自国内外艺术家的100多件装置作品在这个时尚高地展出。此外，还举办了一些研讨会和论坛供设计师们相互交流。今年的新天地设计节将持续到6月25日。
