It's debilitating for me when I start watching an entrepreneur make bad decisions and sabotaging themselves and their team. When you're overwhelmed by an opportunity and you don't have clarity on where to go next you will sabotage that opportunity because it only feels like pain. Consciously or unconsciously, you sabotage the opportunity in a protective way. If you don't have clarity, strategy & process, eventually you'll come undone. Are you stuck in a sabotage loop?
The first person you should hire is the person who will make life easier for you. As entrepreneurs we rarely ask for help, we hire people to work around us but we don't hire anyone to help us directly. The way you end up building a team so you can get leverage is by first finding someone who's going to take the pressure off of you. Every visionary, strategic thinker needs someone to help them get things done.
Here's how I coach building businesses, build a business around who you are, make it self-funded, build your team and then live the dream! The only logical way to build your business is to make money. If you're running a business that isn't profitable it's near impossible to make the right decisions. If you're not making decisions based on what creates profitability, then what are you making decisions on?
If you've been told as an entrepreneur to withhold information about your business from your spouse, I can tell you, it's going to be a disaster. I have two rules for entrepreneurial success, the first one is your marriage is most important and the second is transparency in your marriage is absolute. If you're a married entrepreneur that's how you win. So often when I hear an entrepreneur say my spouse doesn't support me in my business, it's because they haven't been transparent in their marriage. Are you giving your partner enough information to be able to support you? Be incredibly careful about the advice you take. Sometimes you never recover from bad advice.
Every time you say yes to something, you're saying no to something else. Everything is not an opportunity and sometimes you have to be relentlessly selfish with your time. When something is going to take your time, energy and focus you have to slow down and ask yourself if that decision you're making is supporting you as an entrepreneur.
I have news for you, as an Entrepreneurial Personality Type you've committed to a life of constantly being in a transition and struggling with something all of the time. Being an entrepreneur means that you are always a beginner at something. The rest of the world doesn't want to have struggles and challenges, they don't want growth. If you're not putting up with some deficit or overcoming some complexity, you're not growing. That's just part of who we are.
Here's what I know as an entrepreneur, when you go out and create a following you have to be polarizing. A lot of people will fall in love with what you're saying and really listen but for every person who loves you, you're going to have people who show up and hate on you. There's no way to avoid the haters if you expect to do anything significant. When somebody goes to battle against you I want you to see it as confirmation that you are going in exactly the right direction. Hardwire this, haters confirm greatness.
If you're comparing your challenging day to someone else's best day that they intentionally choose to share with you on social media, you will lose 100% of the time. Today more than ever we have so much inside access to peoples lives through social media. We look at successful people and think "why am I not more like them?", "why can't my business be perfect like that?" The comparisons are out of control, all it will do is drain you and take away your power to move forward and make positive changes for yourself. When you use successful people for inspiration rather than comparison, you gain your power back. Acknowledge how well YOU are doing, don't live in a world of comparison.
When you get to an airport and look around you, everyone seems to be stressed out and in panic mode. Whether I'm traveling alone for business or with my family on a holiday I always set my travel intention. If you do this too I promise your whole day will turn out differently. Think about why you are traveling and what you can do to make things as simple as possible. Remember, live with intention.
If your business has plateaued I'll ask you, where are you feeling bottlenecks & constraints? Where could you be holding the business back? As entrepreneurs, we are hardwired to press forward and always be in momentum. Most of the time when we feel uncomfortable about something in our business, that is a place where we need to lean in because our discomfort is almost always pointed at a deficit in the business. You will always experience bottlenecks and constraints as long as your business is growing. If you're not experiencing issues of any kind, chances are your business isn't growing or you just don't know where they are.
