The vast majority of entrepreneurs are caught in a trap. What we want to do requires far more help than the average person, but any request for help makes us feel vulnerable and exposed.
On top of that many of us aren't great at interpersonal communication. We are misunderstood, often trust the wrong people, and end up feeling taken advantage of.
This is what stops the majority of entrepreneurs from experiencing success. 22 million of the 29 million businesses in the United States make less than $100,000 a year.
Sometimes I am called a natural born entrepreneur, but what came naturally to me in life was failure. I had trouble in school, was always a behavioral disorder, and had a hard time making any system work for me.
The only way I haven't been able to achieve massive outcomes in my life is by creating teams of people who are capable of doing what I can't do.
This is the process I have used to delegate just about anything successfully, as you'll see I have a different take on delegation.
As entrepreneurs, we learn more through leading a team than anywhere else. Unfortunately, the vast majority of entrepreneurs will never try to lead a team. Growing a business is overwhelming and many don't get past the stage where they can see that it would be easier with more than just themselves.
Getting a business off the ground and creating some level of profitability is so hard it often feels impossible. From profitability to hiring people and adding them to a team the difficulty only goes up and for most entrepreneurs, the gap seems insurmountable.
There are strategies that will allow you to easily lead anyone successfully. I know, I am socially awkward and have a difficult time around people. Speaking to 3000 people from a stage is easy for me, talking to the group of people at the foot of the stage after the event provokes anxiety attacks.
If there was anyone who shouldn't be able to lead a team, you're listening to him.
I had to find strategies that would allow me to work with anyone and get a result, even when I didn't know how. I learned many by watching some of the most successful people in the world build massive organizations.
This is one strategy that will permanently change how you lead people and next financially increase your chances of success.
One of the fastest ways to grow your business, and possibly one of the most exciting, is to use joint ventures, partnerships, and affiliate relationships. In all three cases, you shortcut the time it takes you to do something him by finding someone who's already there and partnering with them.
This may be something as simple as a JV partner advertising your product to their list, or as complicated as a full partnership where you join forces with someone.
When entered into correctly, these relationships can create massive momentum and help you grow your business faster than you could on your own. When these relationships are ambiguous and mistakes are made in the setup, rarely does anyone get what they want. Instead they can end in anger, frustration, broken relationships and bad will.
There is an easy way to make sure that your joint ventures, partnerships, and affiliate relationships succeed and everyone wins.
Evolutionary hunters are sensitive. Not cry at the drop of a hat sensitive, sensitive like any evolutionary hunter would be. We are hyper-aware of our surroundings. We observe, see and feel more than most people do. These characteristics have kept us alive for millennia.
Our ability to feel what is going on around us can be a superpower. When there is low pressure and noise in our lives, the accuracy of our sensitivity goes, and it will guide us down a path to consistent momentum and success.
When pressure and noise go up, I've sensitivities can get overwhelming and stop us in our tracks.
This is the reason I have a different take on dressing for success than most of the thought leaders out there.
George Bernard Shaw said The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.
As a consultant, I saw first hand when he meant. It was shocking how often meetings were held, things were communicated, people thought they had a meeting of the minds, only for everyone to pull in different directions.
This was in Fortune 500 companies with established communication Systems and structures. In entrepreneurial companies, it is much worse.
Entrepreneurs are notoriously challenged to be good communicators. Our excitement is often taken for aggression, our confusion is often seen as irritation, are need to ask questions can often be seen as insulting. I have watched some of the wealthiest people in the world in each of these situations.
If they can happen to them, it can happen to you.
Even though I am a speaker and I'm able to record a podcast like this, I am often misunderstood one-on-one and have a difficult time being heard.
As a result, I obsessed over the processes and strategies I can use it to improve my communication. This is one of the most important I have.
Let's be honest most meetings suck. As a consultant to Fortune 500 for over 10 years I sat through more worthless and painful meetings than I want to admit.
Most meetings I was in should've never been held. There was never a clear outcome, rarely did the entire room know what was trying to be achieved, and there was very little if any process.
It drove me crazy to be in a worthless meeting. I would always think about everything else I could be doing and everything I could be accomplishing if only I didn't have to be there.
This isn't only in the Fortune 500, meetings are notoriously one of the things we all can't stand the most.
Only a very small fraction of meetings actually are well-run and accomplish their intention.
As a result many entrepreneurs fight against scheduled meetings of any kind. There are even some coaches out there who will tell you-you shouldn't have scheduled meetings or structure of any kind.
This is one of the most dangerous ways to run a company. If you are running a business of any size, this episode could change everything for you.
Let me explain how having these meetings will grow and scale your company like you never thought possible.
Working with entrepreneurs I have always obsessed with the base level foundational habits that will create success in all areas of lives. I've asked the question over and over "what is the one thing that makes everything in an entrepreneurs life easier?"
After working with thousands of entrepreneurs, I have realized there isn't just one thing. There is a series of foundational habits
I call these Keystone Habits.
When you improve a Keystone habit you will improve everything in your life. The interactions you have, your relationships, your family life, your physiology and your business. Keystone habits change everything and are 100% progressive, there is no negative trade-off.
This is arguably the most important Keystone Habit and also may be the most effective at creating success in all areas of your life.
Many of my clients are growing businesses from around $1 million and they are quickly scaling to eight figures. If you do this successfully and maintain your margins, you will very quickly have a lot of money at your disposal. The people I work with grow their net worth at an exponential rate compared to the majority of business owners with similar profitability. One reason is that I believe that this is the single most important metric for an entrepreneur. A second reason is we use a simple network growth. It will probably surprise you when you hear how simple this is however when I've used it with entrepreneurs it's worked near 100% of the time to affect massive increases in net worth.
For Entrepreneurial Personality Types the most important relationship in our lives is our spouse. We spend years denying it, some of us even try to pretend like it isn't true but the fact is that for all of us our spouse's opinion is the one thing that matters more than anything else.
In a recent interaction on one of our mastermind calls, Byron Harold shared with us how a simple concept of curiosity over judgment has radically and completely transformed his relationship with his wife.
After getting his permission, we decided to share this with you because it meant so much to me, everyone who is listening, and I believe it will mean a lot to you as well. Whether you are married or not, this is a lesson on how to have powerful transformational relationships in your life.
Curiosity over judgment is a relationship catalyst that could change everything for you.
Howard Brinton, an incredible mentor of mine used to say "get out of judgment and get into curiosity." I have shortened it to simply curiosity over judgment.
When I first heard this I thought it was simple advice. It is hard for me to quantify just how much this simple statement has changed my life.
With my kids, with Cadey, and in my business simply leading with curiosity has made everything in my life easier.
Once you understand how to apply this, it is transformational.
