Brilliant children are different, that is what makes them brilliant. If they were just like every other student or person, they would be average. Different is the very definition of brilliant. Brilliance is motivated differently than the rest of the world. Self-direction and self-actualization are the goals of every brilliant child although they can't verbalize this or explain this to an adult. A child that may struggle or even look dysfunctional in school, may be able to focus for long periods of time on their own. In this podcast, I share a couple simple tactics on how to better relate to your brilliant child.
Brilliance is under attack. It is alarming how many of my clients have shared they have been told something is wrong with their child. This isn't something people like to talk about and most of the time I am the only person they've told. There is a shame in having a child that has something wrong with them. We hide, don't discuss it, and may not even tell them. This is making the problem even worse because it makes each parent who hears this feel like they are alone. The number of children being diagnosed with disorders, disabilities, and cognitive issues is growing at double digits per year. We are missing clear cause-and-effect. Over the past 40 years schools have limited or eliminated movement, done away with self-direction, and have created almost an exclusive focus on standardization. Children like us have a fraction of the awareness, understanding of the world, and perspective that adults have and we ask them to endure the constraint of sitting in a classroom all day without moving. We spent 18 years telling children to sit down, pay attention, and be quiet and we wonder why so many children are having trouble thriving.
There are two ways to create momentum, one is to generate the energy, effort, and focus to go forward and make progress. The second way is to lower the pressure and the noise in your life and you'll automatically create momentum. If you are going to reach your full potential, both are required for your success. The challenge for many entrepreneurs today is they're caught up in the hustle and impression that the only way to create success is to endure more noise than anyone else. This just isn't how it works. There is a path that great entrepreneurs throughout history have taken, it begins with making a commitment to lower pressure and noise.
The Entrepreneur's Dilemma is that we need far more protection and support than the average person to reach our full potential, however any request for protection and support leaves us feeling vulnerable and exposed. This is the reason so many entrepreneurs don't get the help they need and struggle to become successful. The day you become an entrepreneur is the day you become a commodity and feel like admitting any weakness exposes you and your business. Every entrepreneur struggles with this on a daily basis regardless of their level of success. It is this dilemma that keeps many of us stuck, plateaued, and unable to make the contribution we know we should be making.
In this episode I read a chapter from my forthcoming book about the Entrepreneurial Personality Type. When my writing partner Dennis Welch read this to me, I got emotional. I feel like it almost perfectly captures the essence of the Entrepreneurial Personality Type and who we are. This podcast and my forthcoming book are not marketing pieces or lead generation devices, collectively they are my manifesto to people like us to shake off the suppression, lean into our strengths, and go change the world.
Entrepreneurial Personality Types create new, change things, improve the world around us, and challenge the status quo. We have an obsession with making things better. We aren't like the rest of the world because we are driven by change rather than stability, progress over perfection and improvement over stagnation. While the world obsesses over budgeting and time management, for EPTs, there is far more to creating success then understanding time and money, there are five currencies that create momentum for Entrepreneurial Personality Types and create our future.
Every great entrepreneur in history was driven by the need to make a contribution. They have called it different things, leaving your mark, making an impact, making things better or even leaving your dent in the universe. These great entrepreneurs followed a simple four step equation that allowed them to overcome any deficit, capitalize on their strengths, and change the world. The good news is, you can too, and once you do you will see your results increase and the pressure and the noise in your life immediately go down. The contribution equation is your path to entrepreneurial success.
Entrepreneurs are driven by a foundational set of questions that propels us through our lives. You may be hearing these for the first time as they are revealed in this podcast. These are the questions that move us forward, create our successes in life, but can also keep us stuck in place. These questions are the foundation for the path that every great entrepreneur in history has taken to success. Once you understand our foundational life of questions, they can help you create momentum immediately regardless of where you find yourself.
Entrepreneurial loops and spirals are the behavioral patterns that keep us stuck in our lives or even worse move us backwards.
Society may call these patterns of addiction, self destructive behavior even dangerous and with good reason.
When an entrepreneur is in a negative loop or spiral it can cause us to look distressed, unreasonable, and at risk.
In my experience change happens in an instant, it is up to us how long we want to take to finally decide to make the change.
When we understand the evolutionary reason we are caught in these patterns we can often release them and change in the moment of understanding.
Are you ready to dramatically improve the results in your life?
As entrepreneurs, we struggle with a peculiar set of behaviors. We know what we should do, but we don't. We know the behaviors we should avoid, but we are called to repeat them. Regardless of how successful we become, we can be plagued by doubt and fear with each major step forward. Most of us are terrible at asking for help or expressing what we want. For almost all of us, the single greatest thing holding us back, is ourselves. What causes us to suppress ourselves like this? There is a logical answer, but it may surprise you.
