Mike woke up at 6am to get to the start of the second to last FIT Challenge OCR event!  He may have missed the start but he was able to get interviews with the mandatory elite wave finishers, socialize with great people, run a lap with Angela and Jimmie, volunteer on the course, take down the obstacles, and interview some of the 12 hour ultra finishers.

It's pretty clear that OCR has taken a massive hit due to the outbreak of COVID back in 2020 but many were optimistic about a strong return after.  Unfortunately, things still aren't looking much better with low turnouts at many events, race brands rapidly downsizing, and from what we and other friends can vouch for a large hit to podcast listeners.

Robb McCoy from FIT Challenge has won awards from Best of OCR for his role as a race director, his race itself, and for the unique obstacles that are featured in them!  Yet due to the effect of low registrations, it is looking like this almost decade old OCR company will be coming to an end in 2023.

We had him on to talk about what he considered going into making this decision, what he believes it means for the sport of OCR, and his plans moving forward!

Frigus is a snowshoe race put on by The Endurance Society, a Northeast based event company run by Andy Weinberg.  Many OCR enthusiasts from back in the day know the importance of Andy but nowadays he is still a solid race director. Speaking of OCR enthusiasts, I was able to have Scott Sweeney call in to talk about his experience at Frigus.  Scott is frequently a volunteer coordinator for races like FIT Challenge and Bonefrog.  Whether he is participating or playing a crucial role in the event, he is always a welcome sight.  Be sure to thank him for the work he does as an unsung hero.  Races can't happen without volunteers, and the volunteer coordinator is vital in getting them together to keep races running smoothly.
