Speaking at an event commemorating the 70th anniversary of the formulation of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, Chinese President Xi Jinping said more than ever before we need to carry forward the spirit of the principles.
The five principles include mutual respect for each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty, mutual non-aggression, mutual non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and cooperation for mutual benefit, and peaceful co-existence.
China first put forward the principles in 1954, and they are enshrined in the country’s constitution.
What is the historical legacy of the principles? What can they contribute to the building of a more equitable order in the world today? Host Ding Heng is joined by Yin Zhiguang, Professor of International Politics with Fudan University; Zoon Ahmed Khan, Research Fellow at the Center for China and Globalization; Timo Kivimaki, Professor of International Relations at the University of Bath.
