This week I’m digging into my mid-year results and the data that led me to restructure my pricing.

The difference between an expense vs. hybrid vs. investment mindset, and how your mindset affects the type of client you attract.
The transformation from a hybrid mindset to an investment mindset that our students achieved by investing in a coaching program like the Web Designer Academy.
How my decision to charge investment-minded pricing made the hybrid mindset clients I was actually trying to help say no.
How I used the data from the last three and a half years to drive my decision to restructure our pricing for the Web Designer Academy.
My top 3 lessons from the first half of 2023:
You’ll never be done doing the mindset work. It take practice to cultivate and maintain the mindset that will help you create the results you want… but things WILL happen that will knock you off your game, and that’s normal and it’s okay.
Don’t keep trying to find all the answers and make all the decisions on your own! Be open to support, encouragement and advice. You can’t always see the problems in your business or the opportunities like other people can.
You will have tough times in business if you plan to be in business for any length of time. Nothing has gone wrong… it’s how you build resilience during these tough times that determines results going forward.

June 14, 2023My Stripe Account Was Hacked and Stripe Said I Have To Repay $70K EP 43

This week I’m sharing my experience with Stripe and fraudulent charges on my account.
What happened:
I woke up one morning to find that my Stripe account was being shut down for fraudulent activity that I couldn’t see and hadn’t received any payment notifications for, to the tune of $70,000.
After going back and forth several times with their customer support, it became clear that they had no intent of helping me resolve the issue and were planning to refund the charges from my business account.
I got the run around from several departments and it came down to disconnecting my bank account in order to protect my business from the fraudulent charges.
I also talk about how:
The breach was blamed on me somehow exposing my secret API keys in source code when they aren’t even integrated on my website.
I had to set up a merchant account through my bank instead of using a third party processor in order for my transactions to be protected from fraud.

There are always going to be periods of ups and downs in business. You need to be proactive and learn to problem-solve based on the data to adapt to challenges.
Trying to go it alone can cause you to make mistakes that perpetuate the problem - having a coach or mentor to help you get to the root of that problem will help you see the reality.
Never turn off your sales strategy, even if you need to lessen it during your busier seasons. By always carving out time for your most effective marketing and sales activities, you’ll build a pipeline for when you come out of your booked-out season.

Trends in the challenges our clients are facing and how we’re seeing that what used to be easy might now take a bit longer.
The difference between leads and clients and how you should pay attention to feedback from the people who are paying you, not just talking to you during a consultation.

The way you look at things is not the same as everyone else, and the factors that drive you don’t mean the other ones don’t come into play.
Things in business are not a pass or fail as in school. Results are just information and what you measure as a success or failure has nothing to do with who you are as a person or your worth as an entrepreneur.
It’s critical to have an unbiased mentorship around both the business journey and feelings that come up to help you get back to what’s true during the data collection process.
We also talk about how:
Erica followed the thread of her passions to land where she is now, using her talents and expertise to help course creators with curriculum.
To look at data objectively without minimizing your feelings and face them head on.
You need to recognize the value of the strategy and guidance you provide during the decision making process with a client, and that there is a shared responsibility between what you provide and what the client does for their part.

The Web Designer Academy is a 12-month container because so much life can happen in a year that we help students navigate life as they implement our teachings and build a sustainable business.
Everyone brings different challenges and a different background, which leads us to take their feedback and use it to find new ways to give students what they came for. The challenge is not making that feedback mean anything about the course or taking it personally but still using it to implement positive change.
The “quick win” provided in the Web Designer Academy is internal, not external. The goal is to help people see how special they are and sell them on their own abilities while believing in themselves.

The Web Designer Academy started as a small group coaching program for 6 people and has grown to help hundreds of female web designers.
Our foundation is people helping people, and we also help our students do that with their clients.
