In this episode, Kerryn Vaughan and I dive deep into the messy, beautiful, and downright funny moments that make life real. We’re talking about everything from my dog Luna's recent paw drama and how a little canine wisdom can teach us more than we think, to Kerryn’s tale of her runaway donkey and the wild ride of grief, loss, and learning to let go. Of course we tackle the big stuff - trauma, resilience, and how we’re all just figuring it out as we go - while still finding joy in the small stuff, like kicking the footy in the street or smiling at a stranger on a run. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s full of laughs and hopefully a few 'aha' moments too. Buckle up. It’s a cracker!

Well, today I got to sit down with the amazing Rebecca Adam, CEO of Expression Australia. And let me tell you, this episode was a first for me - I had my very first Auslan-interpreted conversation, and I was like a kid in a candy shop! Rebecca’s story blew me away. She’s profoundly deaf, but that hasn’t stopped her from smashing through glass ceilings. She’s the first deaf CEO of her organization in 140 years and she's also a lawyer to the Supreme Court of Victoria using Auslan.
We talked about everything from her experiences growing up in a deaf household, to leading a national organisation, to the ways technology is helping (and sometimes falling short) when it comes to deaf inclusion. I even learned that one in six Aussies is actually affected by hearing loss.
Rebecca’s got such a calm, yet powerful presence, and she’s been breaking barriers in education, sports, law - you name it.. I adore her! Her resilience and the way she’s used adversity as fuel to become a leader and an advocate for the deaf community is such a legendary achievement.
Plus, huge thanks to Mark Quinn, the Auslan interpreter. This conversation was one of my favourites!

Righto legends, strap yourselves in because today I’m sitting down with an absolute weapon of a human, Kris Clelland. Now, Kris isn’t your everyday bloke - he’s the kind of guy who took on the 75 Hard challenge and smashed through it... with a broken ankle! Yeah, you heard that right. We dive into the grit and determination it takes to push through something like that, but this convo goes way beyond fitness.
We explore Kris's life from growing up in Scotland, navigating the challenges of his early life, and how those experiences shaped the resilient person he is today. Kris opens up about dealing with the profound loss of both of his parents at a relatively young age, showing us the raw and real side of his story. We also chat about his move to Australia, carving out his path in a new country, and building a career that spans continents and industries.
But it doesn’t stop there—Kris shares his insights on leadership, personal growth, and how he balances his work-hard, play-hard mentality with a deep passion for helping others succeed. We get into his strategies for overcoming obstacles, his approach to continuous learning, and the importance of mental health and resilience in both personal and professional life.
This chat is packed with inspiration, motivation, and insights and I absolutely loved it!

You can't talk or trick yourself out of memories. That shit is stored in the body, not just the mind (just ask Dr. Bessel van der Kolk). That's why it's so damn tricky to process grief and trauma. You might remember in April 2022 I dropped my furry little heart and soul, Coach the Whippet, into the vet for a minor surgical procedure on her dislocated toe, only to receive the afternoon phone call that no fur mumma wants to get. They'd lost her under general anesthetic. So last week when I was told my Luna girl needed to be sedated for surgical removal of grit in her paw pad, you can imagine the unease... My internal reaction sparks some thoughts, and I'm unpacking them in this short and sweet episode.

In a world so connected, it's hard to believe that loneliness is rapidly becoming one of our most alarming epidemics. The impact of loneliness is comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day, increasing the risk of death by 26%. It's also a precursor to dementia, heart disease, and depression. Surprisingly, the stigma and shame surrounding loneliness are even more prevalent than those associated with mental health.
With an estimated 2.9 million Australian adults experiencing high levels of loneliness, Hans van Pelt joins me today to discuss why combating loneliness is a cause close to his heart and what we can do to make a difference.

Ever been so burnt out that you didn't even recognise yourself anymore? Join me and Bobby Cappuccio as we dive deep into the real-talk of burnout, boundaries, and why self-care isn't just about bubble baths and spa days. Bobby shares about his own intense journey through burnout, the brutal wake-up call he faced, and how he had to redefine what it means to be a leader - both for himself and others.
We also tackle the quirks of identity, the pressure of people-pleasing, and why sometimes the bravest thing you can do is say, "I can't do this anymore." This episode is, as usual, a raw, unfiltered conversation that blends humor, vulnerability, and some damn good insights on navigating life's toughest moments.
If you're feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders, this one's for you. Let's unpack it together.

What an incredible gift Sarah U'Brien has in her ability to openly express her experience supporting her partner, former police and fire fighter, Matt U'Brien throughout the journey of managing the impact that PTSI has had (and continues to have) on their lives. Post Traumatic Stress Injury doesn't just impact the person experiencing it, it impacts those around them who love and care for them, every bit as much.
The wives, husbands, partners, children, parents, family, friends. This conversation is one of only 3 amidst my 826 episodes so far that made me cry... and hey, you might want to grab a Kleenex yourself before you hit 'play'.
Mental health and mental injury can make the world feel like a lonely and unfamiliar place, even in your very own home. Yet hopefully through people like Sarah who have found the words and resources to share their experiences and their insights, others can find hope, connection and resources to offer a light at the end of the tunnel.
Today we hear about PTSI from the perspective of one loving partner & mother, and two young daughters, as they navigate what the changes and circumstances meant for themselves as individuals, for Matt, and for their family as a whole.

On December 4, 2019, Steve Phillip received the phone call every parent dreads. His son, Jordan Phillip, at 34 years old, had ended his life by suicide.
Jordan wasn't just a son, he was a brother, a stepson, a stepbrother, a loving boyfriend, a grandson, an uncle, a cousin and a best friend. He was tall and handsome and turned many a head, male and female. His friends both loved and envied him.
At his funeral they described Jordan as; well-mannered, a great listener, kind and considerate, intelligent, cool but humble, ridiculously handsome, a true gentleman, humorous, “being a friend with him was never a chore”, “he was the person I would usually turn to at difficult times like this”, “he was the best and most loyal friend I ever had”, “He was remarkable in every sense”.
Since that harrowing phone call, Steve has devoted himself to the work of suicide prevention, with the hope that one day no one else will have to receive such a call. In this conversation, Steve shares his journey as a father and as an ever-evolving expert in suicide prevention. He offers crucial insights and education on how we can better support and understand those at risk of suicidal ideation. This is a powerful and valuable discussion about a difficult topic, and Steve has transformed a gut-wrenching tragedy into a meaningful legacy.

This chat is a continuation of the concept Mark and I were unpacking back in episode 803 where we ask the question 'What if we approached life as an ongoing experiment?'.
So here we are again exploring the ideas and taking a look at some of our own recent experiments!
What's your latest experiment in the works?

Roll With The Punches is where we step into the ring and go toe to toe with the hard sh*t life throws our way.
Hosted by former boxing champ turned strength coach and speaker Tiff Cook, RWTP brings you big conversations with world-class guests about psychology, relationships, trauma, the brain, and the patterns that can make a bloody mess of our lives.
If you're curious about human behaviour, keen to challenge the stories you tell yourself, and want to understand why the hell you do what you do, you're in the right place. Tune in. Tiff's in your corner.
The goal? To question what you've always believed, understand yourself a little better, and turn those aha moments into actual change.
Because knowing better and doing better are two very different things.
And let's be honest... life's gonna keep throwing punches. We may as well learn how to roll with them.
