This week, in honor of Suicide Prevention Month, I talk about my experience with suicidal ideation and how you can help someone struggling. I emphasize how important it is to combat depression and suicidality with connection and validation in addition to asking for help when you need it. I also give advice about what to do if someone near you is feeling suicidal and how to get them help without it being at the expense of your mental health.

What's an intensive outpatient program? Inpatient? Dialectical Behavioral Therapy? Residential versus Therapeutic Boarding School? In this episode of Nevertheless, She Persisted, I do my best to break down what I've done for mental health treatment and what's helped me. Keep in mind, different approaches work differently for everyone. This is just what I've done and what helped me. Hope that this can be useful for listeners.
In this bonus episode's real time episode I talk about my recent graduation from treatment, moving home and how it's going so far, and starting school next week.
Sitting down with a friend, we discuss relationships. We cover co-dependent unhealthy romantic relationships and friendships, evolving family relationships, and gossiping. How do we maintain our friendship as independent often dramatically different people? Do we experience relationships in the same way? How have they affected us? Listen to find out.

Disclaimer: everyone’s experience with depression is different. Ours won’t be the same as another friend’s. Additionally we both severely struggled and isn’t meant to be a bar to compare yourself to. That being said, we hope this helps someone know they’re not alone.
I ask my younger sister how she was impacted by my mental illness. From how the focus of the family shifted to how our relationship has evolved we discuss the highs and lows of the past 2 years.

I sit down with my Dad to discuss what it was like to see his child suffering from mental illness. Between conversations about the difficult decision to send me away, as a parent, not knowing how to help me, and what is different now in our family, this episode is aimed to give parents reassurance that you're doing the best you can and for kids to understand what it's like to be a parent in the toughest of times.
