Social Media, Cortisol, FOMO and Focus

Listen Later

The results are in from the poll on social media! I asked, and you answered, and I'm diving in today to talk about social media and how it shapes the way we view our health.

It will come as no surprise based on our discussions about social media in episodes past, but there is an overwhelming majority of women who feel that they are the farthest they have ever been from their health, even amidst the flood of health and wellness information that inundates social media platforms.

So why is that, and what is causing us to steer even farther away from healthy practices?

Social media can cause major shifts in our physiology, not just in our habits and our behaviors, but it even impacts our hormones and our neurotransmitters. The constant desire for new information and the need for a constant dopamine fix can leave us feeling entertained for a period of time but ultimately unsatisfied and worse than we were before.

The competition and comparison that comes with social media are also of great detriment to our feminine energy. When we are constantly comparing ourselves against an image of someone else, we shift away from viewing others as part of a community, and we can begin to feel flawed if we are not meeting a certain perceived standard.

These practices are not healthy, but there are ways that we can still leverage the power of social media without letting it control us. Tune in today to hear more about the impact that social media is having on our physiology and how we can use it intentionally to better ourselves!
