Send Matt an email on [email protected] with any thoughts or questions. The workouts of the week: Any Distance Workout: 2km, 1600m, 1200m, 800m, 4x400m with 2min rest and 1min rest between 400m's. Start at HM pace and end at 3k pace in the 400m's. Half Marathon Specific Workout: 4km/1km, 3km/1km, 2km/1km, 1km/1km with 1min rest between each rep and 3min between the sets. Each longer rep is at Half Marathon effort and the 1k's after it is "harder" Marathon Specific Workout: 30km run including 3 x 5km (1km recovery). The 3 x 5km should be at Marathon effort and the 3rd km within the 5km should be "faster" - closer to Half Marathon effort. The suggested workouts: 1. Workout for any distance: 1km, 900m, 800m, 700m, 600m, 500m, 400m, 300m, 200m, 100m with 1min recovery. Start at 10km pace and get faster. 2. Half Marathon specific: 3 x 5km: First 5km @ Half Marathon goal pace + 5%, Second 5km alternaing 1km @ Half Marathon goal pace with 1km float, Third 5km @ Half Marathon goal pace. 3min recovery. 3. In this weeks episode Matt talks about running the Ageo City Half Marathon and getting beaten by over 200 Japanese people but still running 66minutes, how the Ekiden content has been coming along, learnings about muscle cramping and some of the funnier reasons people believe he's been cramping in races, great Strava accounts to follow, the USA Marathon Olympic Trials and the recent drama around the start time.
