  • Controlling the Controllable with Infertility

Welcome to the SYNC Your Life podcast episode #78! On this podcast, we will be diving into all things women's hormones to help you learn how to live in alignment with your female physiology. Too many women are living with their check engine lights flashing. You know you feel "off" but no matter what you do, you can't seem to have the energy, or lose the weight, or feel your best. This podcast exists to shed light on the important topic of healthy hormones and cycle syncing, to help you gain maximum energy in your life.

In today's episode, I'm covering the things we can do that our in our control when it comes to infertility. If you are someone struggling with infertility, this podcast is for you. If you know someone who is, share this out! There are so many great tips here that can help so many.

Infertility affects 1 in 7 couples. I believe unexplained infertility often correlates to a lack of body awareness.

    My tips:

    1. You CAN and will get through this!

    2. Track your cycle. Check out this podcast I did on cycle tracking. You can find a SYNC scope for saliva testing here.

    3. It takes two to tango. Make sure males are getting checked! Semen analysis and varicocele exams by a urologist are both crucial. Check out my episode on male fertility here.

    4. Address painful periods. Check out my episode on endometriosis and painful periods here.

    5. DUTCH test. Every cycling woman should be doing annual DUTCH tests to assess their menstrual health. I like the DUTCH complete + cortisol. You can find the test here. Use the code jsl100 to save $100. Find a functional medicine practitioner to help you assess your results and get to the root cause.

    6. Luteal phase dysfunction. Tracking your cycles and testing with DUTCh can help you determine if this is an issue for you.

    7. Consider progesterone support via bioidentical hormone therapy. This isn't for everyone, but finding a practitioner knowledgeable on BioHRT can be an amazing thing.

    8. Come off of hormonal birth control sooner than you think. It can take 3-6 months or longer for your cycles to regulate. Remember, ovulation is suppressed when you're on oral contraceptives.

    9. Focus on regulating your blood sugar. Check out this episode I did on this topic.

    10. Lifestyle factors play an enormous role in infertility. Consider limiting alcohol use, ceasing tobacco use, and getting your weight and metabolic health into the correct metrics.

Welcome to the SYNC Your Life podcast episode #77!

In today's episode, I'm interviewing Dr. Alice Penn a second time around! The first interview can be found here.

Dr Alice is an expert international business and career consultant, coach and keynote speaker. She works with clients to help them realize their full potential and take their professional lives to the next level.

Previously a sought after medical doctor to high-level executives in London for 10 years, Alice still had a strong desire to fulfil her own potential. She did something many had said was impossible: she made a career pivot to the world of finance, building a successful career at one of the 'Big 4' global advisory and consulting firms where she worked in commercial and financial advisory for several years in London.

Over the course of her career, Dr Alice has worked with executives from PwC, Clifford Chance, Ernst and Young, Goldman Sachs, KPMG, and Deloitte. Now an entrepreneur, Alice's mission is to help people who are feeling stuck, who know they have more to give but do not know what direction to take their career or business. Alice works with people to find clarity and support them in implementing and executing their goals with excellence.

We talk about the impacts of stress on women, both physically and mentally, and how hormones play a role. We also discuss perceived stress versus actual stress and so much more.

In this episode, I reference a previous podcast on the topic of alcohol with Stacy Miller, which can be found here.

  • Self-Sufficient Living: Interview with Dr. Michelle Jorgensen

Welcome to the SYNC Your Life podcast episode #75!

In today's episode, I'm interviewing Dr. Michelle Jorgensen a second time, but THIS time, it's all about self-sufficient living. In our first interview, found here, we discussed functional dentistry, one of Dr. Michelle's passions. But today, we dive into another area of interest for her: gardening and living a self-sufficient life.

Dr. Michelle Jorgensen, DDS, FAGD, TNC, CNAS is an internationally acclaimed author, speaker, teacher, biologic/holistic dentist and health and wellness provider. She is the author of five books: Healthy Mouth, Healthy You; Be Prepared, Not Scared; Self-Sufficient Living; 100 Days from the Garden and Real Food for Real Families. They can be found here.

After practicing traditional dentistry for 10 years, Dr. Jorgensen became very sick. Through her own journey to return to health, she discovered she had mercury poisoning from drilling out mercury fillings for her patients. Her answers came from a combination of modern and traditional medicine and practices, and she realized there was value in both approaches.

For the last 10 years she has been paving the way in Biologic/Holistic dentistry, and created the Total Care Dental and Wellness Way, a patient CARE centric, health focused method for treating dental and overall health.

She is also the founder of Living Well with Dr. Michelle, a local and global outreach to teach the habits and the behaviors necessary to really live well in today's world. This includes everything from healthy food for busy families to plant medicines you grow in your own yard or windowsill.

She has also started a non-profit foundation called Living Well Today Foundation to teach families how to be self-sufficient. She is building a large educational garden currently and plans to help other communities implement the same techniques to bring independence back to families and communities.

She has received certifications as a Therapeutic Nutritional Counselor, a Certified Nutritional Autoimmune Specialist, and is a Board-Certified Traditional Naturopath.

A busy mom of four, she loves to spend time with her family and is happiest when teaching and helping people!

You can find Dr. Michelle at www.livingwellwithdrmichelle.com or on TikTok or Facebook as "Living Well With Dr. Michelle."

In this episode, we reference Shawn Stevenson's two books: "Eat Smarter" and "Sleep Smarter."
