  • An Evening With Bill Harley
It's always a treat when one of our favorite tellers stops by for a visit. On today's special episode of The Apple Seed you'll hear stories and songs from the great Bill Harley, performed live at the BYU Radio studio!

  • BITES **** -- "Johnny Appleseed" by Tim Lowry with guest Mark Wait
From time to time, we'll post what we call a BITE ("like a regular episode, only shorter!"). We always hope that the stories you listen to on The Apple Seed will spark memories and thoughts that you can share with the ones you love -- perhaps even the people with whom you listen to the show. In a BITE, we'll listen to a single story -- one that we love -- and invite friends to share memories and thoughts that occur to them as they listen to it.

Have you ever though about which historical figures you'd like to meet if you were given the opportunity? That hypothetical is at the heart of Tim Lowry's story, "Johnny Appleseed". On today's BITE, Sam is joined in the studio by Mark Wait.

  • Strange Summers
Summertime: A season of long hot days, ice cream, friends, travel, and new experiences. The sun stays up longer than usual and even when the moon comes out, people are unbothered. Many people share all sorts of different experiences that happen in these warm, relaxed months. Everything from riding bikes, getting to know new people, or even participating in something like marching band can fill up the days and give us great new stories to share [or not share] when the weather starts to cool down and the leaves start to change. These warm months often have great things happen, but sometimes things don’t go quite according to plan. Sometimes people have different plans, people get sick, or a parade doesn’t go as smoothly as one might’ve hoped. But, with a little patience and care, things might end up even more spectacular than initially hoped for.

On today’s episode, enjoy the following:
    Radio Family Journal: Oil Cap
Daily Mix: “Don Shelline” discusses “No Time”
Story Spotlight: ‘Brat’ by Martha Reed Johnson in Skinny Dipping and Other Life Lessons (13:03)
Storytime: ‘The Mumps’ by Laura Pershin Raynor in Summertime & (18:45)
‘Marching Band’ by Kevin Kling in Stories off the Shallow End (6:42)

  • Different Trajectories
Sometimes, our plans just don’t work the way we thought they would. Whether it’s our ten-year career goals or next week’s dinner schedule, life has a way of turning out differently than we intended. And that’s not necessarily due to some personal fault—often, it’s simply because life is more complicated than the words you write on your calendar. Everyone’s trajectory will change at one point or another, so today, we thought we’d bring you a few stories about embracing those changes: because if we can’t choose the curveballs life throws, we can at least choose how to swing.

On today’s episode, enjoy the following:
    Radio Family Journal: Sadie Hawkins
Daily Mix: Paul Ricks discusses “I Want My Hat Back”
Story Spotlight: “Hitchhiking” by Geraldine Buckley on Devils on Horseback and Other Odd Journeys (12:04)
Storytime: “How I Became an English Major” by Donald Davis on Friends Come Back (22:47)
