  • **** BITES -- Syd Lieberman's "Some Enchanted Wednesday" with Jeff Simpson and Jacob Gowans
From time to time, we'll post what we call a BITE ("like a normal episode, only shorter!"). We always hope that the stories you listen to on The Apple Seed will spark memories and thoughts that you can share with the ones you love -- perhaps even the people with whom you listen to the show. In a BITE, we'll listen to a single story -- one that we love -- and invite friends to share memories and thoughts that occur to them as they listen to it.
On today's BITE, Sam will be joined not only by Apple Seed producer Jeff Simpson, but by one of Jeff's old friends: an actor, author, dentist, and baseball fan named Jacob Gowans. Jacob will join us from Nebraska, and we'll enjoy what we introduce as "perhaps the only story in our library to combine baseball and musical theater": "Some Enchanted Wednesday" by Syd Lieberman.

On today's bite, we'll reminisce with assistant producer Valerie Garofalo, who had a hard time going to sleep as a kid, and whose mother was almost as filled with good suggestions as Maynard Moose is, in the delightful tale "The Little Moose Who Wouldn't go to Sleep," told by Maynard Moose, the storytelling companion of the great Bay Area storyteller Willy Claflin.

  • ****BITES -- Shawn O'Neill with Casey At the Bat with guest Jarom Jordan
From time to time, we'll post what we call a BITE ("like a normal episode, only shorter!"). In a BITE, we'll listen to a single story -- one that we love -- and invite friends to share memories and thoughts that occur to them as they listen to it.
On today's BITE, we're headed to ballfield for a recitation of "Casey at the Bat: A Ballad of the Republic Sung in the Year 1888," written by Ernest Thayer, and performed for us by Shawn O'Neill. It's a classic piece of baseball nostalgia, recited on stages and in recordings since it was written, more than a century and a third ago. Sam's guest in the studio is Jarom Jordan, co-host of BYU Sports Nation. There'll be joy in Mudville for sure, as you listen to tales and conversation on today's BITE, brought to you by The Apple Seed.
