Part two of Betsy’s trip to Iceland. Betsy shares where she went and what she did during the first part of her trip. She points out that we put our own parameters of time on things, things can happen really quickly when we want them to, and she shares some realizations that came from her experiences while on this journey.

let’s go live big. Hi, welcome. Welcome to the Art of Living big Hello, everyone. Welcome back to the show. So I talked your ear off last episode about Iceland, it was like the prep, it was all like the behind the scenes stuff I feel like you needed to know. So just if you want to have it is it is like the entire itinerary with photos of the stuff, photos of the places where we stayed all of that good stuff. So it really gives you like a full overview of the whole trip. You know, I have and I’m going to share like a mini kind of trip that I would make. I did the whole entire loop the whole ring road. And it was amazing. But it took 20 days. And I think there’s a lot of amazing things you could see with a much shorter trip. And honestly, the things that I loved the very most, for the most part, were in one centralized area location that you could really do in a week. So anyway, all that just to say, just to prep to say that if you have if you’re here, and you haven’t heard last week’s episode, that would be a good place to start. And you can download the itinerary if you’d like so. Alright, so we’re dove in. So last week, I kind of gave like the overview kind of what was happening and kind of how that whole thing happened. Right? Seeing I give you a date, I want to just refresh the dates. I saw the Tick Tock on January 21. On January 22, I saw the invitation to go on the trip. Okay. Now it is February 11. And I leave. So it’s only been a few weeks, okay. And what I did was I flew I had Delta points. So I flew to London. And then I took a flight from London to Reykjavik. But if you are going to go, you can go. I mean, depending on where you live, you could probably go direct, but also you could go through New York City. I know there were a lot of flights that went through New York. For me, it was way less points for me to go through London. And it was like 30,000 Delta points to go through London. And it was like 90,000 to go to New York. So I was like, well, I’ll just go to London. So that’s why that happened the way that it did. When I got there. I got there a few days before everybody else because there were some things and some experiences that I wanted to have before everybody, not before everyone got there. But that weren’t on our itinerary. And I wanted to make sure that I had a chance to do those things. Because at the time, I was thinking I’m never coming back to Iceland. But now I don’t think that I think I’ll probably try and go sometime in the summer. There were so many times where we would be walking around and we would say to each other. This would be really awesome in the summer. Like it was beautiful, but like the wind was whipping in the snow and the whole thing. So lots of cool things to see there in the summertime. Okay, so I fly in. I stayed overnight, I’m going to tell you, let me pause, I’m going to tell you some things that you’re going to be like, Why is she even telling you this? And if you are one that’s traveled a lot? The things that I say you might be like this, like why was that a big deal to her? It? It’s okay. It’s some things were a big deal to me that maybe wouldn’t be to you. Or I want to give you like a I don’t know, I kind of just want to bring you along the journey and and have you know, the things that I was thinking because there were some things as someone from the United States and I have been very lucky and privileged enough to be able to travel some. You know, I’ve talked on the show before about how I have been to Finland and Sweden and Norway, and I have been to Iceland, I have been, you know, to Mexico. I’ve been to Belize, I’ve been to the Dominican Republic. I’ve been to a lot of Ubuntu Bermuda, that’s where I ran my marathon. You know, so I’ve been to a lot of other places now. Not necessarily Europe. So if you are listening in you’re from Europe, you might not think that’s very much but if you’re from the United States, those are countries that are around us. So I’ve been to Canada so just Simple, easy places to get to from where I live. Okay. So some stuff that I say, you might think is kind of funny that I thought that was interesting, but I’m just going to share it because I thought it was interesting. So I get there, I get to Reykjavik.

I had scheduled a transport from the airport to the hotel. Now, I’m self aware enough. And I’ve traveled the limited amount that I’ve traveled enough. And just from knowing things about how the United States is perceived, okay, so I already have this viewpoint, I get to Reykjavik, I get to the airport, there was some issues, like I said, you know, you had to have the COVID test and all of those different things. So I had a few issues, just hold up, hold up. So you know, like waiting in line and things like that getting through and my transport was at 430. And I walked up, and it was 430. It might have been like, 431. And the woman said, The bus just left. So you’ll have to wait for the next bus. It’ll be in an hour. And I was like, how did it just leave? Like, it’s just barely 430. Like, I looked at my watch. That’s when I was like, it’s just 431. So I’m thinking my head, I walked up here at 430. I think that this is an American thing. To think that it should wait for you. And that might make you clench a little bit that I’m saying that. But I thought that even at the moment, so even before I had anything else, just from what I know, I was like, I think I’m acting like an American by saying, Why did you leave? It’s only been a minute. And she kind of looked at me and said, because it leaves at 430. So I was like, Oh, I’ll have some thinking to do about that. And it is funny because I messaged a friend about that. And I said, I think I was just very American by expecting, but everything runs late here, right? Like things on time. I didn’t think being one minute would cause that. But it did. And so I waited and it actually took like an hour and a half there was nobody left at the airport. But me and I took the bus, the transport to the airport or from the airport to my hotel, and I was the only one on it. So like I it was the end of the day. I got to my hotel, and I stayed at the Hilton Nordica there are several Hilton’s in Iceland. And at the time that I went, the Hilton that I stayed at was actually the least expensive Hilton. But in my opinion, based on conversations I’ve had with other people and things that I’ve seen online, the one that I stayed at is the best one. So I’ll tell you why I think that so I got there, they upgraded me to, um, they upgraded me to a suite, which was amazing. I go to Hill, I stay at Hilton’s a lot, so I’m have the points or whatever. So they upgraded me to a suite. So I had when I got up there. First of all, if you’ve taken a cruise recently, then you know how cruises the lights work that you have to put your key in. I have not taken a cruise recently. So I literally could not turn on the lights. And by that point, because I had missed the bus. It was dark. So it was completely dark in the room. I couldn’t turn the lights on it. I knew it was this beautiful suite because I could like see shadows and stuff. I actually ended up having to get on Instagram and be like how do I turn on the lights? Someone asked me guy that listens to the show that I love. He was like have you tried clapping? Like, oh my god, I’m about to I will try anything. But what it turned out to be was just like the cruise ship where you have to put your key in the little slot, put your key in the slot and that turns the lights on. So anyway, I felt very untraveled at that moment where I was like, Oh my gosh, what am I doing? I’m all alone in Reykjavik and I don’t even know how to turn on the lights. Like it’s about to be a really bumpy ride, you know? So, um, I lights came on, I can see and I opened the blinds and it was like, floor to ceiling windows and this view that I felt like that was the first time I felt like I’m in The Truman Show. You guys remember that movie with Jim Carrey? And it’s The Truman Show. And it’s basically like this fake. I might have talked about this on another episode, but basically like this fake world, right? Like that’s being created and he’s in a reality show. But at the end he ends up like cutting through the sky and realizing that it’s all fake, right. So seeing that having the windows open I was like, Is this true? Heat like actually had that feeling like, this house is real. Like it was so beautiful. It was so unbelievably beautiful. Um,

the beds, they the beds there, all of the beds at every Airbnb were amazingly comfortable. And I have a really comfortable bed at my house. And that’s one of the things that I always get a little worried about if I stay at an Airbnb because if you get a crappy bed, like, that’s really hard. So hotels, usually you can count on it being a pretty good bed, right? These beds are so comfortable in the way that they do it is like let’s say it’s like a queen size bed. They have two twin comforter and do vase. So they’re folded in half the long way. So on each side of the bed is like a folded in half long way, twin size comforter. Does this make sense? So you look at the bed, and there’s two twin comforters folded in half the long way on the bed. And at first I was like what is this? And then I remembered because when I was in Finland, I remember that, that the duvet was in the sheet. So they don’t have a sheet. The sheet is the duvet, it’s all one piece. And I remember when I was in Finland, it was like 89 When I was in Finland. And I was so enamored with that, that I bought some of the sheets. You know, they’re long gone now, but it’s the best. And I’m going to do this at my house because it was seriously the best it was, I don’t know the down that they use, you know, it was all so comfy cozy. And I think that when you’re in a place like Iceland, where it’s so cold and so uncomfortable, that they have perfected cozy. You know what I mean? Like things were just cozy. Anyway, at the Hilton Nordica it was cozy, and it was a beautiful view. And it was amazing. The other really cool thing there was the breakfast. You know, when you go to a hill in the United States, you get like a sugary waffle and yogurt and like boiled eggs. thing, but this was like an insane spread. I put, I put Instagram stories with the food. Because like seriously, I was like so excited about it, especially after traveling because I basically been up for like 30 hours I slept that night. The next morning, I wake up and there’s this amazing spray was like having like I had just entered having this gorgeous view, and all this food. So I’m going to tell you about the food in a second. But I want to just tell you if you want to, if you’re listening to this, and then you’re like, I want to see all the pictures. If you go to my Instagram, you know how you can save the stories. You know what I’m talking about how you have stories that disappear in 24 hours, but you can save the stories to the little circles. So there’s Iceland one and Iceland too. So start with Iceland one end, you can probably pretty quickly see food photos. If I say I think I saved them on there. If not, I’ll go back and add them. But the food was it reminded me so much of Finland very Nordic, right? Like hard breads, and they they had tons of meats and cheeses and like I don’t it was just sliced cucumber. And like, it just reminded me of breakfast and Finland, which was just a really good time in my life like that. Good. That was a good trip. And so it was just I don’t know, it’s yummy. And it was good. And I just wanted to tell you about that. So if you ever go to Iceland, stay at the Hilton Nordica that’s the best one. My guess is that in the summer, maybe it’s more expensive. But when I went it really was not very expensive. I think it was like 17,000 Icelandic. I think it’s Kronos or something? I don’t. It was. It sounds like a lot for 17,000 Just stay there. But it was like 100 bucks. You know what I mean? It was awesome. And you got the breakfast and the whole thing. Okay, here’s another thing. Don’t tip in Iceland. I tipped everywhere until I got with my group. And then I left like a huge tip. And someone was like, why are you leaving a tip? They don’t tip in Iceland. So I wasted a lot of money on tipping or i i got to share some extra energy with people that served me well. That’s how I’m going to look at that. So I was there. spent that night at the Hilton Nordica and then I had gotten a transport to the Blue Lagoon. So if you’re one of the 1000s of people who messaged me and said you have to go to the Blue Lagoon. I did. I went to the Blue Lagoon I spent the day I got there in the morning and I did the I’m telling you all this in case you go. You could do just the basic package or you can do the Premium Package. I don’t know one’s like 50 bucks. One’s like 90 bucks. I don’t know, I was like I’m premium. So I’ll get the premium. I was like, I’m not sure what the difference is. But what the difference is, is that you get a bathrobe. And you get like a free drink at lunch or whatever. So I ended up going, I did the premium, which gave me bathrobe, which turned out to be really nice. I had lunch there at the restaurant called lava, which overlooks like the lava fields. And you can wear your bathrobe to lunch. So it was actually really worth doing the premium so that you didn’t have to get out of your wet sweat swimsuit and into your clothes to go to lunch and then get back into your wet swimsuit. Do you know what I’m talking about? So doing the premium allowed you to get the bathrobe, I went to lunch, which you also got like a free thing of champagne because it was premium, and I had lunch. And then I went back into the Blue Lagoon. Now. The Blue Lagoon is my favorite place. It is so amazing. Like, I’m not kidding you. It was like one of my very, I went to a lot of hot springs while I was there. It was really one of my most favorite places. The water is blue, like a like not like the ocean. But it’s more like

thick looking, you couldn’t see through it. So it was cloudy blue, like a pretty blue. From all this silica in the water. And the hot springs, it’s huge. But it is constantly being regenerated from geothermal water, like 1000s of feet into the ground, and re, like, pumped. And every 40 hours, the whole entire thing gets pumped in with new water. So that hot water coming up from the middle of the Earth, right or from deep in the earth. And that’s what makes it hot is that it’s coming. It’s this geothermal water. So there are places all over Iceland that are hot springs, we have some in the United States, you’ve probably been to a hot spring, but this one in particular. And like I said, we went to several, but this one was unlike any of the others. It had the silica in it. So it was this beautiful, amazing color. When I went it was, I mean the whole time I was there, it was very snowy. So the snow was piled up. And the juxtaposition of all of the snow and melting glaciers looking things. And this blue water and the steam and the beautiful mountains in the background. I mean, it was insane. I had only I mean, I had only been there 12 hours or 15 hours when I went. So I was like, What planet Am I on, I kept feeling like I was on a different planet. Like it was so different. I was in love, like completely in love. And when you go into the Blue Lagoon they have like, inside as you walk around, they have like a little bar where they had like fancy, like themed drinks, you know what I mean. And then on the other side, they had like a mud mask bar. And there were four different mud masks. And you would go and put your hand out and they would put this mud and you put it all over your face. And they’d say like, wait 10 minutes, or come back in 15 minutes, and then you’d wash it off in the water and go back and get the other one. And I’m telling you, I wish I bought all the stuff from the Blue Lagoon. They sell all those mud masks, but they were like, terribly expensive. And but my face was like a baby’s butt like this perfect and beautiful. And so glowy and shiny. Like that was really fun. So if you go do all the masks because it was really fun. The other cool thing was that I met a lot of people there. You know, I was all by myself. But I was like meeting people. I met a woman and her fiance. They were about to get married. And they had their families with them. And they were I wish I could remember exactly where they were from. I want to say like Minnesota or something. And they came, they’ve never been to Iceland, but they wanted to get married in Iceland. And so they came with their families. And it was like just a cool like trip of a lifetime. You know what I mean? And so that was really fun to get to get kind of hung out with them for a little bit in the excitement. You know, they were so excited. It was really fun. And then I met a woman we were talking there were certain spots that were right around where the pumps were that were pumping out the hot water and those spots were hotter than other spots. And so I was kind of gravitating towards those spots because I liked the all the heat and it was so cold out. And there was a woman that was standing there and I was like this is the place to be and she’s like it totally And she said, I just came from the airport. So if they have tours that will take you to your hotel, but it’ll stop at the Blue Lagoon, and they will hold your luggage there. So that’s what she had done. And she had come all by herself. She was super cool. She was from Florida, and she’s a nurse. And she, um, she came for like four or five days or something like that, and wanted to come and couldn’t find someone to go with her. So she came by herself. And I just thought that was so cool. And then I was sitting, there’s like an area where you can sit and kind of overlook everything outside of the Blue Lagoon. And I met this group of girls that had come and they were super fun. And I talked to them for quite a while. And they had come together just to have like a long weekend adventure. And I followed them on so on social media on Instagram, and got to see their adventure. So a lot of different kinds of people, you know, get your girlfriend’s or go by yourself. Like it really is, like, doable. So many people in Iceland speak English, that it felt really pretty easy to get around or to ask questions. So after the Blue Lagoon, the next day was where I was meeting my group. So in the morning, I did some work. And then in the afternoon, I met the group in the parking lot. So I had a taxi cab, pick me up and bring me to a parking lot. And I said, this is the parking lot. And the parking lot was like numbered. I just told him the number and he knew where it was. So he brought me to the middle of Reykjavik to this parking lot. And he was like, so you, so I’m just dropping you off, like, you don’t know anybody that’s picking you up. And I was like, nope. So he dropped me off. And within just a few minutes, my group arrived. So one by one people started showing up. And then the two people that were kind of running the thing showed up with the van. And as soon as they came around the corner and saw everybody, they started like honking the horn. And I just knew this is about to be like a really crazy fun adventure, right? So we all got in, you know, got in the van piled in with all of our stuff, and set off to our very first place our very first Airbnb. And this is this was a house that is in an area called the Golden Circle. Now, if you come in to Reykjavik, they will have loads of tours to take you to the Golden Circle. So if you think of the whole island, the whole island of Iceland, and I took the ring road is what I drove, which is a whole road that goes around the entire coast of the whole country. But the golden circle you can take that actually brings you just a little ways outside of Reykjavik. And then it’s a little circle in of the country right there. Like it’s a little, it’s called the it’s called the Golden Circle. And there’s like a little road that you can kind of travel and see lots of different things. So a lot of people come. So when I talk about like the mini adventure you could have in Iceland, it wouldn’t even be Mini, I mean, it would just be shorter than my one. But coming into Reykjavik, go to the Blue Lagoon, and then get a tour to the Golden Circle. So if you download the itinerary, you’ll see all of that. So we ended up going to an Airbnb that was in the Golden Circle. On like the edge of a lava field. It was the place that had the sauna. So it was really fun, especially since we work so cold since we had just gotten there. We at certain places, we shared rooms, sometimes we had a roommate, I got my own room a couple times. I was old. Another guy that was my age, but for the most part, everyone else was like late 20s, early 30s ish. And so um, and I don’t know that our age had anything to do with it, but you know what I’m saying so they all stayed up a lot later than me so it was nice when I got my own space and I could go to bed.

facts of false facts of last Iceland. Um, I think that’s what it was. There was a the next day we went but we actually got snowed in there and we couldn’t leave. There was a huge storm that came in that hurricane force winds and we really couldn’t leave the Airbnb. We were supposed to be there just a few nights so we had to stay an additional night because it was unsafe to travel. So I talked last episode about how the weather was extra. So it was like You want some winter Betsy will give you extra winter and I got extra winter. But one of the places that we went when we were there and sell Foss, that’s where we stayed cell FOSS is where it was. But there was this place called the Gullfoss waterfall. It is unbelievably beautiful. And that is absolutely a place to go. When we went there, it was so windy, I didn’t even know that I’d be able to walk like it was definitely treacherous in the winter. I think in the summer, it was beautiful in the winter. Absolutely. But I think in the summer, it would be even more so amazing place if you’re a photographer or a hobby photographer to be able to take photos. It was super, super amazing. And it was one of those things where it was so big. Like it was so big, and the wind was loud, but it was so loud. And it was like when I go to the ocean, and you feel so big and so small all at the same time. Like really, really magical. There’s also like a lot of geothermal areas in that that that area where you can go. And you can go and watch, we actually went to a geyser hotspring to watch. But there’s a lot of things right there. Again, that’s that golden circle. So you can see loads of stuff there. After that we moved on. And we did go to see another waterfall. I feel like we saw a lot of waterfalls after a little while if I’m being honest, Chris, we did the whole ring road. But after a little while I was like, How is this the same waterfall is different. I know it’s different. But it was a lot of waterfalls. There’s a lot of waterfalls there, but it’s beautiful. The scope of floss waterfall is the one that the picture was taken where I’m like, where I look so tiny, was really, really beautiful, again, like a magical place to take photos. And to just be I was thinking like in the summer, this would be an awesome place to like meditate, or there’s so much energy, you know, with the water coming down, like just the massive amounts of water falling and a lot of it was frozen when we were there. Yet still so much water, just the energy force. I just it felt really good there. You know, it felt really good. If you have listened to the show for any amount of time, you know, I’m a huge fan of the ocean. And Iceland is an island, and we were driving all along the coast. So it wasn’t the ocean I normally attend. But it was ocean nonetheless. And it was beautiful. And really, really amazing. So after that we moved on to another little town called Vic. Now, remember I said that the very first time I saw that tick tock was January 21, January 22, is when I said yes, January or February 22. February 22 is the first time I saw the Northern Lights. So from I want to make sure I get the date right 23rd. So it was one month in one day. From me seeing it and saying yes to being there. Now. To me, the speed of that is really profound. I also want to say that, I recognize that that is there’s a layer of privilege in that, that I don’t want to discount. Also, I want to say again, that the miracles that we want to manifest because that’s a pretty out there one, like Iceland is not an easy place to get to or a normal place to go to, or close by where I live. I don’t know anybody there. So for me to go from one moment of saying I want that out loud, which has a vibration of its own, to being there, looking up at the sky in this little town of Vic in the middle of the night, where it is snowing, or it has been snowing and so it’s quiet. Do you know do you know if you’ve lived anywhere where it snowed before you know what I’m talking about? It’s so quiet because the snow absorbs so much of the sound. This little town of Vic is on the ocean. And it’s nestled in this, like kind of under this like cliffie area. And we walked to the beach. And we were on this little bridge and the Northern Lights came up. We we saw them several times. And this time wasn’t the best. But it was the first and it was so beautiful and so magical. And I thought the speed in which this was able to happen. What are other things that I want know? If you’ve been listening to the show for a long time, you’re probably like, well, how come she hasn’t manifested the beach? Because I don’t really want I live at the beach. There’s A I think I’ve mentioned that a couple of times over the years, but I love the beach. There’s A component of the beach that’s out there for me. But that’s not what I want. And, and my wobbly, wobbly Enos is what’s kept me from it. Does this make sense? So I had clear, clear path, I had clear conviction, I want that even said that out loud. I want that. Right, one month. And one day later, I have not only am I there, I have that, that that scene playing out above my head of the lights, and the amazingness of it. It was just so fun. And really like, such a magical moment to be like we are in. This is not just I know that. Let me say it in this way. I know I’m explaining something that happened to me. And I know this might be like, kind of far out. This might even be like nothing you’d ever want. But what I want is for you to see that we put the parameters of time on things. And that things can happen really quickly. It doesn’t have to take a lot of time.

It doesn’t have to take a lot of time. And some things, there are physical aspects, like I had to take a flight. And there was a physical aspect to the amount of time that that flight took. But my belief, at least in my experience is that sometimes there’s things that I want. And I think add that to the bucket list. And the bucket list is so far out. The bucket list is something that goes into a list of things that I want, that perhaps I’ll never really get, but it’s on my list. And for some reason, adding it to my bucket list, makes it feel more real to me and comforts me in some way. This never went on my bucket list. This went on my I want that. And then there was no resistance to it. And so it just happened. And I purposefully made the decision to do it before I could come up with the resistance. Before I could say how I figured that out. That’s a long time to be gone. Like all of those things, which are real things. And I’m in a position in my life where I could do that. Right? My kids in college, like there’s things I want to just recognize that worked in my favor. But we all have things and whatever stage or part of life that we are at, that we can create quicker perhaps than we think. We didn’t stay there very long. But honestly, that was one of my favorite places. Again, really close to Reykjavik where I flew into which I want to say this when you fly into Reykjavik, you’re really flying into a different Airport. This screwed me up when I was trying to book so it’s carefully or something. I’m not looking at it. So that’s just from my memory. But KTF I think is the airport name. So just know you don’t really fly into Reykjavik. It’s it’s like a 40 minute drive. Okay, so not that far. This is my favorite little town. There are it’s the cutest in the daytime. It’s the cutest little town. We drove up to the top of this hill where there was this cute little church and I mean, just amazing views. Beautiful. So in the morning, we see the Northern Lights in the morning we decided we’re going to go to the beach and see the beach in the morning. I was with a couple photographers, and they were like we want to go and get pictures of the sunrise. So I’m like this sounds great. So we we got up and got all of our stuff on they gotta have my zipper boots, and we got drove to the beach. We is walkable from where we stayed. But all the snow, all the things, the wind is insane. Okay, so we take the van, there’s another group of people like us in a van that’s stuck in the snow. So when we get there in park, we see them they’re stuck in the snow. Just note that and I’m going to tell you, there’s more to that. So we go out onto this. It’s called the Black Beach. And it’s black sands. And there are these amazing. I don’t know, there’s probably a name for them. But in Iceland, there’s a lot of like, rock that’s like just a pillar. That’s like sticking up from the sea. You know what I mean? So like, it’s not, um,

it’s just like a pillar, kind of where there’ll be like an archway of like stone I guess. I should know this. I get I’m guessing it’s like, lava. There’s a lot of lava fields and stuff. So I’m guessing like, maybe it’s from that. But but it’s beautiful. When you see it, something about it is really magical looking. So we start walking, we get to the Black Beach, these people are stuck in the snow, we start walking the little path to the beach, and the wind is whipping. Now if you saw any my videos of the wind whipping it whips. Yes. And it also whips low. So like sand, not sand, the snow is swirling around your feet. Do you know what I mean? So there’s a lot of like, swirling, swirling, whirling snow. And it looks very cool. But it feels very overwhelming. Now. I was going to say something. And you may have an immediate reaction to it. But it was sort of a theme for me. So I want to just bring it up. So I mentioned before that I was older than some of the other people there was another guy that was 50. This is so complex. But what I want to say about it is that I know many people will say, well, age is just a number. I, I agree there is a mindset that is younger mindset. There’s a mindset, that’s a different older mindset. There’s a mindset that’s negative, there’s a mindset that’s positive. There’s also physical things that happen to your body as you get older. I think that younger people don’t understand that. And they think that it’s just a mindset, that it’s just a number, but it’s not. And here’s what I mean, specifically, is that I’ve been going through some really, really hard, perimenopause, Peri menopausal symptoms. I’ve had a lot of what I think is hormonal weight gain over the past few years. So I feel very out of my body in a lot of ways. Also, I noticed that I have a couple joints. One is my right ankle. That really bothers me sometimes. And I believe that that’s a hormonal thing. So I have been doing some things actively, to figure that out. I will share that on another episode. But here I am, with a group of people that are, you know, men and women, late 20s, early 30s. I know there is a mindset shift that is age. But there’s also a physical component that I was struggling with. There was a lot of hiking, and sometimes like for hours of walking in conditions that weren’t just like a walk down the street. And I struggled with that. And it was a really hard thing for me to struggle with that because I’ve lived my life as a pretty active fit person. And so there was an identity problem that I was having. And I use the word problem. I was suffering with that because I didn’t understand, or I was I understood. I was really frustrated with it. I was frustrated with the fact that things felt hard for me I was stressed, frustrated with the fact that nobody seemed to really understand or believe me, when I would kind of mention it.

I also think that there is something in our society that says Getting old is bad. And so people’s reaction when you say I’m older is for them to go No you’re not. But I don’t think Getting old is bad. So you don’t have to say no, you’re not you You just have to say like, what are you experiencing? What’s different for you? How do you feel like that’s different from when you were 40. Like, they’re so. So I’m having this experience, it’s very internal. We’re on the Black Beach, we’re walking, it’s winter, the wind is blowing the sand is some kind of other planet kind of concoction. And I’m like, Oh my gosh, like it’s so windy, I’m finding it hard to, like stay standing up. There would be times where I would take a step and my foot would go into the snow. And I’m not very tall and about five, almost five, one. And so the snow would come up to like my mid thigh. So I had a hard time, it was a lot of energy to pull my leg out, and then continue to walking only to have it happen again. I did buy crampons for my boots. And that was super helpful. But when I was taking this walk, I lost them in the snow because my feet went so far down, I couldn’t get it out. Okay. So then I finally made it to the beach, really beautiful. I mean, I got some of my favorite pictures, it was one of the greatest, visually the greatest experiences that I’ve ever had. It was beautiful. It’s one of my favorite memories of being in Iceland. And there was a moment where we were turning to leave, and my leg fell into the snow. And so in an effort to get out, I pushed on my other foot, and that foot went down. So now I am on like a embankment, kind of going over this little hill to get to the other side back to where our van is. So if you can imagine the beach behind me, is loud, the, I mean, the waves, it is not like go into like the beach in Florida. The waves are insane. Like they tell you don’t get too close. Because if you get caught up, you’ll just get pulled out to sea and never seen again. Right? So like, the waves are so huge. I mean, it’s so big. So

mind foot goes down, the next foot goes down. So I’m like, oh my god, I’m like, I’m like up to my thighs and start trying to pull my legs out and I really can’t get them out. I’m also getting tired. Have you ever been swimming where you’re where you’re swimming, and then all of a sudden you’re like, oh my god, I I like I don’t have like I like I’m gonna drown. Have you ever had that? Where you’re like, I I’ve had this to me once and I was shocked at how quickly I got tired. I don’t know if that resonates. But like I went from being fine to being like, oh my god, I’m exhausted and I can’t swim anymore. I had a boat years ago, and I was swimming off the boat. And that happened. And it was super scary. My daughter was little she was in a life jacket and in a floaty thing. But she was grabbing at me and pushing me underwater. And I got exhausted so fast. It scared me enough that I knew she was safe because she had a life jacket on. Several. She was like probably three or something. And so I pushed her away from me so that I could get away and get a life jacket on and then pour it I mean, she was fine. But I had a moment where I was like, oh my god, I’m losing my strength. I have that moment on the beach. Both of my legs are in the snow. I can’t get them out. So I put my hands down and I’m kind of pushing like wiggling back and forth. Like how do I get my legs out. And there’s somebody like two feet from me. And I yelled, I can’t get my legs out. But I don’t think they could hear me because of the wind. So I put my hands in and both my hands went into the snow. So now my face is up against the ice. My arms up to my shoulders are in the snow, and my legs are in the snow. And I don’t know how to get out. And I had that moment like I did when I was swimming where I was like, Oh my God, that I was like, I’m gonna die. Nobody’s gonna find me till spring. I’m gonna die here on this beach. It was just an instant. But it was it was a real moment. Right? And so I, you know, I finally managed to get myself out. And I got to the top of that thing. Everybody stayed and they took pictures. I don’t think they realize like, I don’t know what I mean. Everybody was having their own experience. You know, like I was just doing my thing. But I was like, I’ve got to get back to the van. Like I can’t wait for them. I mean So exhausted if I don’t go now, I might not ever make it. Like that’s just how it felt it felt like an emergency. Now, I don’t know that anybody I don’t even know if anybody I went on the trip with will even listen to these episodes. But if they are, I don’t think they had any awareness because they were all doing their own thing like nobody did anything. But by not noticing wasn’t weird, because everybody was like doing their thing. And I was doing my thing, which was like the quicksand of snow. I kept feeling like, oh my god all that time that I was a kid and I was worried about quicksand. It was because of this moment, places when it happened. quicksand of snow. So I get to the top. I’m like, I can’t wait for them. Which wasn’t weird, because everyone was doing their thing. And I was like, I have to get back. Now. I don’t know if I’ll make it back, you know. So I found kind of a little path that had like a bunch of rocks. And I made my way, kind of jumping from rock to rock. And every rock was icy. And that’s when I realized that I had lost my crampons, because the which are the little spikes that go on the bottom of your boots. And honestly, in the winter in Iceland, you really need them. And so I had to be so careful that I didn’t ball on my ass, like, hurt myself even more. But I finally made it back to the van. And those people that were stuck, were still there, trying to shovel themselves out of this snowy mess. So it was so overwhelming. I knew it wasn’t just us, like it was a lot going on. But one of my biggest memories forever will be that moment on the beach, both exhilarating and the most beautiful, amazing thing I’ve ever seen. And also the moment where, like, I recognized that I needed to

what’s the word? What’s the word I’m trying to think of? Or the the, what I’m trying to convey is that I wasn’t 29 I wasn’t a 29 year old man. And I couldn’t act like that I needed to have like a level of awareness about what my capacity really was at this stage in my life. And with what we were doing and where I was in my height, you know what I mean? Because the snow was so deep. And so that kind of set the tone for me a little bit in terms of the trip where I don’t want to say that I tempered myself or pulled myself back because I don’t think that I did. But I definitely made choices that would serve me instead of just choices that were like in front of me. So, Vic, one of my most favorite little places to go. And really, really cool and going to that Black Beach, which on the on the itinerary. It’s like reignest giara Beach, Rey, and i Es F. J RA. Is Icelandic is like a thing in itself. Really, really cool. Really cool. And a lot of like letters that aren’t letters I was familiar with. So challenging to Okay. Alright, so we’re at another 15 minutes all I am going to do another show. I was diagnosed with Tourette’s at 12 years old and put on medication at 21 I decided to come off the meds overnight meditating non stop for three weeks and the most incredible thing happened. My Twitch disappeared. I realized that my Tourette’s symptoms were a result of obsessive thinking and frustration, trying to work out things I couldn’t find answers to the medication reduce twitching, as it slow my brain down so I didn’t have enough brain power to find the answers to my questions about life. I think Twitch take a tablet fall asleep before found answers. The cycle repeated for nine years, someone told me about the secret. Then I went down a rabbit hole on YouTube and came across a whole world of people repeating the same thing that always had in my head. I realized that to come off the medication to regain control of my brain after hearing stories, that it was the medication that was causing the symptoms to to keep my brain in that current state of mind. So it helped the medication overnight process all nine years worth of thoughts literally in three days. But it’s a constantly So any thoughts entered my brain. And that’s where my Tourette’s disappeared for the first time, I was in total awareness. Now my goal is to empower as many people as possible on the planet with the wisdom and knowledge that I’ve worked out and have learned growing up in my head from excessive thinking. Hello, hi, welcome. Welcome to the Art of Living big. Hi, everybody. Welcome to the show today. So today is probably going to be a little longer episode, I want to talk today I want to really dive in to my trip to Iceland, I just got home, it is a Monday I get home on Friday. So if you haven’t been following along on this show for a while, then or if you follow me on Instagram, you know that when you’re listening to this, I’ve probably been home for a few weeks. But when I’m recording this, it is just a few days. And so I’m still processing parts of the trip. And this particular episode is going to be about like the trip itself. Some things about the location, about the journey, the things that I saw, I also am going to have a downloadable of my itinerary. And the itinerary is going to be every place that we were to go some of the things we couldn’t see because of weather or things that came up with our schedules. But I’m going to give you the full itinerary because it is an itinerary that you could follow around the country. So you can get that let me say this before we get started just so that you have it in your mind, but you can get it from the show notes. I have thoughts on who what could be a much shorter trip, you know, I was there for 25 days total 20 days with my group or 21 days with my group and so you know it that’s a longer time but but there are some of my most favorite things were close together and really easily accessible to Reykjavik, which is kind of where you would fly into so I have some thoughts on that too. So let’s just dive right in. Let’s dive in. So the other thing that I will say as a disclaimer, and this is something I’m trying to improve about myself, okay, but and you may notice this if you’ve listened to the show for a while, but if there are people’s names that I don’t know how to say it makes me really nervous. don’t ever want to miss, pronounce someone’s name. And I’m realizing that that’s like something that I need to heal, I need to fix that. And like be a little, when I have guests on the show be able to say their last name, right? Like, I need to stop that. But all of that I found was showing up a lot on this trip. Because a lot of the places that we went to, obviously are listed or you know, pronounced in Icelandic and I don’t speak Icelandic. So I’m going to talk about some of the places and do my best. And then when you download the itinerary, you’ll be able to see what I’m talking about. Okay. So that’s my little disclaimer, this trip in general was like, a huge exposure of all the places that needed to be healed anyway. So the, the speech part, the saying words in different languages is just the very tip of the iceberg of the Icelandic iceberg. So the interesting thing, so if you’re brand new here, or you don’t know the story, or you haven’t heard about how I got to Iceland, I want to give just a really quick recap, because I feel like this is an important part of the story. So I was at the beach in January. And I really spending a lot of time there like thinking about what I wanted. For my life and and things that I wanted to experience. In this year, there was a lot of soul searching, I went by myself, and I was there for almost a month. And I like being alone. But also being alone for that amount of time, I really, really,

really get to know myself not got to know the parts of me that got wobbly in certain situations. And I spent a lot of time thinking about things that I really needed to think about that I had been avoiding. You might have things like that too, so you know what I’m talking about. And so, as I was there one night, I was sitting in bed, on tick tock, as one does, like scrolling through. And I came upon this video from this man in Finland, who was cross country skiing in the Northern Lights were above him. And what I now realized was like a time lapse video, right with the Northern Lights like swirling. And it was just, I mean, it was just so amazing that I watched the video, like 20 times, like, I watched it over and over and over and over again. I was crying like there was a lot of emotion, although I didn’t know what the emotion was. It was like a one thing. And at that time, you know, I had been at the beach for like three weeks. And I was trying to figure out what do I do next? Like, I knew I was there. I had gotten an Airbnb for a month. But I was like what’s next? And honestly, at that point, I really was struggling because I couldn’t come up with anything that made me feel excited. And I had actually had conversations a few days before I saw this video with some friends and I had journaled about it that I wasn’t going to continue to search. Because what I was doing was like I was going on the map, and I was looking like, well, it would be fun to go here. Or maybe it would be fun to go down to the keys or it would be fun. Like maybe I could do that. And I guess I could drive like I was trying. I was forcing, right. And none of it really. I mean, a lot of it sounded fun. Like, I mean, I’d go to the keys, like I’ll go to Arizona, like all of it sounded fun. But it wasn’t like the thing. Like I wasn’t like, excited, like I didn’t feel anything like in my soul going like, yes, I want to do that thing that sounds so fun. And, you know, on one hand,

we spend a lot of our lives not having that. Like, it’s not like I had been walking around the last 10 years of my life, like absolutely thrilled and excited for every new month to show up. But I had gotten to a point in my life. And if you’ve been listening to the show for a while, you’ve heard me reference some of this. But we’re I knew I needed a lot of things to change. And I had become aware of a lot of things that I needed to heal. And I knew that I needed to do some things that were just for me, you know, some things that didn’t involve anybody else’s decision or anyone else’s influence, you know. And so part of that discovery process was when I was there at the beach, and I was like looking around and so those few days before I saw that video was was were a hard few days, because I was realizing that I didn’t know. And I had come to the point where I was just going to surrender to that. I don’t know. Early on in the month I had read the surrender experiment. If you guys I’ve ever read that book by Michael singer, it was really good. But I kept thinking back to that book. And about just like allowing and just surrendering and not trying to force anything. And I felt like that was really what I was trying to do, right. It’s like, force, what’s the next thing I was looking at the map and, you know, going to Google or trying to see all the things. But I got to the point where I was like, I’m not going to be able to figure this out. And so for a few days, before I saw this video, I just was like, I’m just going to allow it to come. And I just tried to stay really present. You know, I sat out on the balcony in Florida. And I mean, it was windy and kind of chilly. Chilly, because it was Florida, but it was January. But I sat out on the balcony and the way that the condo was that I rented just angled perfectly where I could get a lot of afternoon sun, I was like, a lizard with my face pointing towards the sun, you know, for sometimes for hours, like just soaking in the sun and saying, I’m just going to be really present, like, how am I feeling? What am I feeling in my body? And when I think about certain things, how does that feel in my body? And so as things would come into my awareness, I would, I would check, I would do like a scan of my body and say, well, is that a yes? Or is that a no? And if it wasn’t like a raging? Yes, I just would I was I had just gotten to the point in my life where I just was like, I’m tired of it being like, okay, like, I didn’t want okay, anymore. I wanted like, fucking Yes. Like, that’s what I wanted. And I, and I really didn’t think I would find that, like, I really felt like, oh my gosh, like, I don’t even know if that. Am I asking too much? You know, am I asking too much. And now I know that that’s never asking too much, that that’s actually something that should be coming in and out of our lives constantly. And I’m going to talk a little bit more about that. But in all of that, I got on tick tock, and I, I’m not a tick tock er, although I have done one tick tock now, since but I, you know, I would just kind of scroll and just check things before I’d go to bed and people are so creative on there. It’s fun for me. And I, I know that the algorithm of tick tock is really fascinating. And it seems to understand you really, really well. And it seems like it narrows in things you’d want to see. Like really quickly. And that to me is also really fascinating. So, you know, if I, if I’m into like, changing stuff around in my house, all of a sudden, I start seeing all these, these house decorating videos, right? So if I’m into just watching people paint or be really creative, like I’m seeing a lot of that stuff. So anyway, I’m scrolling. And then I see, I see these northern lights, and I am overwhelmed. I’m crying, although I don’t totally know why other than it’s so amazing. I’m just like, oh my god, this is so cool. And it was the adventure of that of that like being so different from anything that I had seen. Now the video was in Finland, and I’ve been to Finland, but I went in the summer. And I didn’t experience that. And something about that just spoke to me for whatever reason. And I said out loud, I want that, like, I want that. And it wasn’t it. It was a combination of I want that. And I want to feel that, like whatever I’m feeling when I’m seeing this, like that’s what I want. Like that. It was almost like it was the feeling of that that I was choosing, you can probably hear it in my voice like it makes me emotional. I would like it was the feeling I was choosing now. Again, if you’ve been here for a while, for eight months before, like things in my life had been really rocky and there was a lot of upheaval and a lot of loss, and a lot of change. And I just was like I want like something magical. Like it was just time you know. So that was February 21. The next morning, I got on Instagram now. No I got on Facebook. Now if you if you if you follow my teaching, I am an expert in the unconscious mind. And what I know about the unconscious mind is that our unconscious mind speaks its language is emotion. What part of it is emotion, it’s imagination. And so I had given it a lot of emotion. If you think of let’s talk about our unconscious mind for just a minute. But if you think about our unconscious mind, and what comes in into our conscious minds. Right there, there’s a vast ness of my unconscious mind. My conscious mind is just a teeny tiny grain of that vastness. So how does my unconscious know what to deliver? To my conscious mind? How does it know what to make conscious, right? When I can make the unconscious conscious is when I have reign over my experience. So my unconscious mind knows what’s important, partially by emotion. So if I’m giving something a lot of emotion, my unconscious mind goes, that’s really important. Next time we see that thing, let’s make sure that she notices. Right, does that resonate? Okay, so now here I am, I’ve had a lot of emotion about the video, I go onto Facebook. And I’m scrolling and I come across a video or a post, I come across a post on Facebook, that a woman posted in one of my Women’s Entrepreneur groups. And I wish I had screenshotted it I think she’s removed it because I’ve looked since I think she got the filled up the spot and and removed the post. But what the Post said was, I am pulling together a small group of entrepreneurs, people that work remote, and we’re going to go to Iceland, to see the northern lights if you want information, just message me. And as soon as I saw it, I was like, oh my god, like, Oh my God, and then do not ideas. Like I scrolled a little bit. Because I was like, Oh my God, that’s cool. And then I scrolled. And then I was like, Betsy, what are you doing? Like you, you, you placed the order? You decided that’s what you wanted? And then it showed up? And you went, Oh, wow, there it is cool. And you kept scrolling. Now, and want to pause for just a minute there. Because how many times do we do that? Like, how many times does the thing show up that we want? And we go Oh, I’d have to figure that out? Oh, that might be some work. Right? That’s gonna take some figuring some effort, I’m gonna have to like, late, right. But the thing that we wanted, is right there. And so I, I was like, I caught myself. And I was like, Wait a second. Like before that post goes away, scroll back. And I messaged her. Her name was Julia. And I messaged her, she is from Italy. And I was like, I want some information on that. And she said, Can you jump on Zoom? And I said, yep. And she said right now, and I said, yep. And so that was February 22, that I got on zoom with her. And I checked the dates this morning, because I started thinking about it. And I was like, I think there’s some magic in the dates here. So, so go with me here. So it’s the 21st, I see the tick tock, the 22nd I see the post and I talked to Julia. And I say I’m in now I see I’m in I have no earthly idea. Like, I know I can work from anywhere. So that wasn’t a thing. But like, I mean, like we’re all going to meet in Reykjavik in a parking lot. So I’m going to meet eight other people that I don’t know, in a parking lot in a city I can’t even really pronounce in a place. I’ve never been in a country where I don’t speak the language. And

yeah, I have no idea how I’m going to get there. So I have to figure that out. And it’s in like two and a half weeks or three weeks that I go. So I had to just leap I had to just leap and say you know what, this is going to be an adventure, I am not going to expect this to all go smoothly. I’m just going to expect it to be an adventure. And I really feel like that whole way of seeing the trip helped so many times when things were difficult or challenging, or they didn’t go the way that I expected them to or didn’t even go the way that I wanted them to. I kept saying this is an adventure. Like I’m an adventurer, having this physical experience. I came here I believe I came here as a soul as a piece of source energy to have this physical experience. And now I’m having it so even when it’s down. Even when it is like a dip down. It is still what I came for. I didn’t just come for all the ups. I believe I came for the ups and the downs and all the in betweens. So now let’s fast forward. So now I come. I come home from my trip to the beach. I tell Craig, my husband that I have booked this trip to Iceland. I tell him the story. And he was like So did you book it?

Yes, yes. Yes, my friend. I did. And so I started just getting everything ready, right. I mean, I didn’t even own a winter coat so I had to do all that stuff. So the picture I’m trying to paint here is that this was it. This wasn’t like, there was Effort, Right? There was effort, the magic, the miracle came, I placed the order, I got the opportunity. But I still had to put in the effort. But when I saw it through the lens of an adventurer, the effort became part of the adventure became part of the fun. And there were hard things I booked my entire flight, and I screwed it up. So I had to cancel the whole flight. I was, I was trying to go to Iceland and not pay a $2,000 plane flight. So I had to go partway to I had to go to London, because I could use my delta points and then go from London to like, so I had to go through customs, like four different times on this trip, because I had to go through London and then go through again to get to Iceland. And then I had to when I came back, I had to do the opposite, right? So there was a lot of finagling, right, a lot of like, trusting and doing things that I hadn’t had to do before. Like, I didn’t have to make crazy, plain, strategic decisions on like, timing and all of those things in different time zones. And like, like, I know, this might not sound super difficult. But for me, it was a huge challenge. I was really challenged by that, like, challenged like, tears, and like, oh my god, am I doing this? Right? Am I doing this? Right? Does this make sense? Like, am I am I leaving enough time to get through customs to get my bag? Right? Because I have to. I got this flight to London. So I had to get off the flight to London and get my luggage, and then go through customs and then go back through security. Drop off my luggage with a different airline, go back through security. Go back, get back on another different airline flight and a different terminal. Get to Iceland go through. Do you see what I’m saying? So there was a lot? Like, do I have enough time? How busy is Heathrow? I’ve never been to London Heathrow airport before. So like, how busy at the time. So a lot of that. So I want to kind of prep this just to be like, sometimes the things that we really want the things that would really light us up. It they they can happen. And it’s not always simple, right? It’s not always simple. But it’s you taking the leap and saying I’m going to do it when I look back now having to do those things gave me so much confidence. And when I talk, you know, as I keep going here about how different I am, that the moment I landed back in the United States than I was the moment I left the United States. It’s because of those small decisions that I had to make and those challenges that I had to overcome. So if I could just keep looking at those as I’m an adventurer, having an adventure, those challenges became the thing that was making me me. It was the thing that was was building me into the thing that I wanted to become. Someone had messaged me and asked me why I had gone to Iceland. Like, what was the intention? Like, did you know somebody? They’re like, why would you go? And first I was like, How do I even describe why do I go? And? And yes, I went because I saw the TIC tock and it was amazing. And yes, I went because the opportunity came in front of me. And I was like, Yeah, let’s do it. But I went because I wanted to expand, I wanted to get some confidence back that I felt like I had lost over the past few years. And I knew the fastest way to do that was to have to figure out a whole bunch of stuff all by myself. I knew the fastest way to do that was going to be to be with a group of people that I didn’t know, so that I could see who I was, and how I showed up so that I could see what parts of me what parts of situations and events made me feel wobbly, so that I knew where I needed to heal. I needed to be put in a position where everything was different so that the things that blend into the background in my everyday life become glaringly obvious that this is something to work on. And this is something great that you do and this is something where you can expand and here’s a place where you can learn and here you get to try something you’ve never done before. And and you’ll expand and build and your confidence will grow and grow and grow and it would be faster than doing it any other place. And so when they emailed me and asked me that, I was like for speed. Like I’m doing this for speed I’m doing this because I want to feel something because I want to feel that amazingness I want to feel that ah But also, because I wanted to expand as quickly as I could, and I knew that I had a lot of work to do, you know, as much as I do, as much as I know, there’s always there’s always layers to uncover. And I had gone through some situations personally over the past, you know, I don’t know, I could even say like, five or six years, and you guys have heard me talk about some of that, with my daughter getting sick and all that, like we’re, I had things in me that I needed. I needed to get back to the roots of who Betsy was, like, who, who Betsy was, who she is, but who was she before, all of those layers of things got piled on. And I’m gonna guess if you’re here, and you’re listening to this, that you know what I mean? That you have those layers too. And there’s like kind of this version of you, you know, like in your back pocket that maybe sometimes late at night, you take out a new look at and you’re like who her she had cool things, you know, cool parts about her have that I have abandoned or that have gotten moss on them, you know, or have gotten covered up with junk and responsibilities. And I wanted to strip that away as fast as I could. So now we’re 25 minutes in and I haven’t even gotten to Iceland yet. But this might be several episodes. So

Alright, so if you’re going to go to Iceland, let me say some of the greatest things that I did that I did correctly in my my shopping spree before I left where I was like, I don’t even own a winter coat. I bought a winter coat. It wasn’t the greatest winter coat ever. If you’ve seen any of my Instagram pictures, you’ve seen it, but it was red, and I bought it because it was red. I bought it because I thought it would look really good in photos. And I know that might seem kind of silly, but I was so happy I did that I was so happy that I thought of that because the nature there the the waterfalls, the glaciers, it’s also overwhelming and it’s all very white. And I think if I had to choose like if I was going to choose like Betsy go out and pick your perfect winter coat probably be like, like a cream color. Maybe like cream with like the little like for around the but you wouldn’t be able to see me and so I was really happy with my red jacket purchase. Okay. The second thing is I bought a neck gator. Do you know what I mean? That like goes around your neck, you pull over your head and it goes around your neck and I bought one that was wool. Now, the wind in Iceland is insane. And when I was there, there was hurricanes, hurricane force winds. People that lived there, were saying to me and one. I’m going to talk later about how I had to go see a doctor but he even said to me like this weather. Well he said the weather is shit. That’s what he said in English because it was one of the few things he knew in English. But the weather was so treacherous then there wasn’t normal. They said it had been years since it had been like that. So the wind was crazy. And having that neck gator allowed me to pull it up like over my cheeks because the wind would blow the little pellets of snow and it would feel like needles, you know, and we went and I’m going to get into where we went but we went to a place called the Black Beach was which was amazing and so windy that like it looked like I had a sunburn when I got home you know from all the wind burn basically. So the neck gaiter the third thing that I bought was I bought these Ugg boots that were like for negative 32 degrees like they were super warm and they were waterproof and all that. But these zipped up the middle. And at first I was like these are ugly, but when I was looking at the UG website it was like the best ones because they were waterproof and they were so warm and all of that But I was like, the zip up the middle looks kind of weird. But I bought them the greatest because when you have all of this stuff on right, the big red jacket I had on my wiki wiki pants, you know, like my, you know, when you walk like a wiki wiki, you know like those like snow pants, the the gator, the hat, the big mittens, then to put boots on, and having to like, bend over and do all the ties and stuff. No, not me, I just had to zip them up. I think everybody was jealous. By the time they if, if they noticed, if they noticed they were jealous because it made it so so easy. So those are my tips. If you’re traveling anywhere, and you have to buy a red, buy a jacket, buy a red jacket, get your neck gator and get some boots, the zip. So those were my really big things. So you know, one of the things that I talked about, just I don’t know, a few months ago on the show was about life being in session. In fact, I think that episode was me flying in, and how life was in session because there was so many kids on the airplane. I think I talked about that whole thing. This whole this whole trip life was in session. And so as I’m thinking about it now, I’ve been home for just a couple days. And so I’m still processing, there is part of me, there is, as with anything, there are parts that were so incredible, life changing amazingness there were parts that were so beautiful that it took your breath away, there were parts that were so hard that I was challenged. And that’s where I grew and got a lot more confidence. There were parts where I felt so wobbly about myself. And there were parts where I was constantly meeting teachers, you know, something would happen, and I would meet somebody or somebody would say something in my group. And I would be triggered, I would feel that I would feel like a clench, or like a wobbly Ness. Now not always terrible. I’m not like it’s, but I could, I could sense it. And so I knew there my teachers are here, like, this is where I need to be because this is where my teachers are. If somebody really triggered me, I was like, Oh, I have found my teacher for the next few days. Right? So I share that because we all have things like that, you know, we all have times like that, where we’re in a situation that’s maybe really uncomfortable or different, or we don’t know anybody. And when we’re something is being reflected to us. When something is being shown to us, that makes us feel wobbly. When I say wobbly, we have our version of the world re our version of what we think the world is like. And when someone comes in and says that’s not that’s not true. That’s not my version of the world. It it can cause us to go Wait, is that? A minute? Wait, it’s not? Because that’s how I always thought the world was. And I think that traveling abroad does this for you in a much deeper way. It does it to you in a way that’s that it gets into the core values of what you what creates and what makes up your reality. And the things that make up my reality as, as a woman as an American, right, as someone that lives in the United States, someone that lives on the East Coast, like there are all different parts, right? It means something different. If you grew up in California than if you grew up in Vermont, right? It there. It might be subtle. We probably have a lot of things that are the same, but there are differences. And there are things that we believe about that. And so me going there with a whole group of people who were not from the United States, I was the only one. In fact, everybody else was from Europe. So their experience was totally different. But because they all had, I would say a more common experience. My experience became what felt to me like the outside experience. And I noticed it right away that I felt as if reactions to me. Maybe we’re a little different than reactions to other people who have this shared experience. There was definitely a feeling of they think they know me based on what they know about the United States.

But my inner feeling was, they don’t know me, because the United States isn’t what you get from media, right? Because it’s different if you live in Vermont than if you live in California than if you live in Florida, than if you live in Montana. So there’s no way to encapsulate that in a, like, You’re from the United States, like what that is. And so I felt that right away, and I am still processing because the, the, because I love those people so much. I love who they are. I love what I learned about them. I love what I learned about myself as a reflection to how they thought. And it was really challenging for me, I think, more challenging than they understood. And they probably had a lot of things happening in going on with them, too, that I didn’t understand. So I want to be clear that I’m not saying I was right, and they’re wrong, or they’re right. And I’m wrong. Like none of that. Just different. And so, you. So I love it, because it if it had been all a whole group of Americans, I would have had a very common experience. But because it was so different, it was so different. So so different. Okay, so that was a big theme. So as I talk about things, you might hear a little bit in that theme. But and so that’s kind of like the backstory to it. Um, I noticed that my behavior would be a little bit different, like, I record this show. I mean, I’ve had this show for five and a half years, like I’ve recorded a lot of episodes, I have talked a lot in an empty room to nobody, like for a long time, right? Knowing you guys would listen to at some other point, right. But for some reason, I became very self aware, self conscious. And you may have noticed it over some episodes where maybe I just didn’t sound totally like myself. And I think that was a reflection of like being in this environment. Like, who am I? How do I show up, we stayed at Airbnbs. And so many of them, the walls felt very thin. I’m going to talk about where we stayed. But I felt like everybody can hear what I’m saying. And the things that I talk about on this show, aren’t everybody’s cup of tea, you know what I mean? It’s not everybody I have, there’s a lot of science, right? I am an expert in the unconscious mind. And I, and I believe a lot of what I know, helps explain some of like, what I called, like, the woowoo side of things. And I love that I love the magic of that there’s a piece of this that is unknown, right? I love the magic of I could watch it tick tock and then the next day see the invitation to have the experience that I saw on the TIC tock. Now, I explained that when I told you about that I explained it as this is my unconscious mind noticing. And I believe that yes. And I like to believe there’s a little bit of magic there too. I like to believe that I’m part of source energy coming to have this experience. And that was an experience that wanted to be had through me. And so things were lined up. Right. My my compulsion to go on to Facebook at the moment that I did helped me to get to that spot in the right moment. Right. So like, although there is so much science, I like the magic. You guys have heard me on this show talk about Abraham Hicks. Right, you’ve heard me talk about like, I mean, I’ve had my friend Trish from Episode 208. Right talk about, like talking to to her spiritual advisors. And I’ve had I mean, I’ve had a lot of the woowoo side on here. So I’m with a group where they was fun because they didn’t know any of that stuff. They didn’t know who Abraham Hicks was or any of those things.

But there I am talking, having this conversation in a room where I felt like the walls were very thin and I think you can hear it so what did that tell me? Was that there is me showing up fully as like I’m doing this show have had a podcast for five and a half years like that. That version of me like which was shrinking a little bit and and the reason why I get to choose what the reason was but I have my thoughts on the reason is because one of the things that we always hear as People from the United States as Americans, is that Americans are so loud. Like we show up. Everybody knows somebody did say that, to me. I’m like, if you’re an American, if you’re from the United States, and you’re in a, in Europe, we know right off that you’re American, like, we can just tell. And, well, my response to that is, well, we can just tell your European two kids were different, like you can tell. But as I’m sitting there recording, I’m like, I don’t need to be too big. I don’t want to be too loud, I don’t want to show up as too much, right? Wanting to like shrink a little bit. So that I almost felt like I was there. Like, I want to represent us in a way that shows that not everybody is the way that maybe they think now, a lot of that may have been in my head, I want to say that again. But these are the things that I was starting to experience. So you might notice that in the show over those few weeks that I was recording while I was there. And then all of us coming together, there is a process that all groups go through. In fact, I will do a show I won’t bog down this show with that. But I’m going to do a show just on the group dynamic of what happens in groups when we get together. And basically, I mean, you can kind of imagine it, our group was together for 20 days, we ended up being like kind of 21 days, because we all stayed together an extra night, but 20 days, you don’t know each other. So in the beginning, you’re trying to establish who you are, right groups are trying to groups have particular functions and processes that they go through as they develop into a cohesive group. What came out on the end was a really cohesive group of people that, like genuinely cared for each other and had a really incredible time. I do also wonder if my experience was a little different from everyone else’s based on

the things that I’ve already told you. So I’ll do a show just on group dynamics and how that’s built, that could be helpful for you in other areas of your life, too. So anyway, so these are the kinds of the things that are happening. So I get there. I’m with this group, I’m recording the podcast, I’m noticing all of these things happening, right? So all of the the changes and ways I’m wanting to shrink, or how I’m showing up what I’m doing in the group dynamic to establish who I am in this, right, who am I? How do I show up? What do I believe? What are my values, right? How do I live? And so all of that was really, really eye opening and super interesting. Okay, so now let’s get on to like the trip. So when you go to Iceland, Iceland is like an island, there’s about 350,000 people that live there. So not a lot of people that’s in the entire country. Most of them live in Reykjavik. And then there are a couple of other large cities I say large again, the entire country only has about 350,000. So the bigger cities along around the outer edge, I don’t really think anybody lives in the middle is from where I understood, but there is a road called the ring road and this ring road you can travel it all the way around the country on the coast. And so what we did was we traveled on the ring road we all met up in Reykjavik which is the main city and then we left from there and we stopped at five five or six different Airbnb ease in the downloadable there is every Airbnb we stopped at and stayed at pictures and all that good stuff. So what I think is that these places that we stayed my thought on it as we stayed at more and more was that maybe they were like summer houses. I mean, they were all heated and all of that beautiful amazingness but I felt like they were like second homes, if that makes sense. So um you know how if you have like a cabin, even if it’s heated and air conditioned or whatever, it’s it’s me. I don’t I felt like the walls were thinner like I don’t think like reg regular homes were like that I get the feeling that these were built like second homes. That’s just the feeling a couple of them we stayed at were like log cabins. Do you know what I mean? So several of them have hot tub had hot tubs, which was really fun. And one of them had a sauna. So definitely places to get cozy and warm. One of them had a fireplace. One of them had heated bathroom floors, which I found to be delightful after being in the snow and all of that all day long. So so what we did was we traveled along this ring road and you We stayed at different Airbnb ease all along the way. And then we would stay anywhere from, you know, two to four nights. And then we would explore from there. So we had days where we worked, and then days where we explored, and then days where we traveled from one location to the next. And those days we explored along the way. So sometimes, those were like really long days in the car, but like jumping in and out. So the trip itself may have been like four and a half hours that we had to travel. But it would take us all day, because we would stop at different places. One of the things that struck me the most in Iceland was the

the enormity of everything. Like I felt like, everything was so big, and at first, like it was all beautiful and amazing. But it was after I saw a little car drive, I say a little car, it was a normal car. I saw I was looking at this mountain. I was at a gas station, I’m looking at this mountain, and I’m like, Oh, it’s so pretty. Everything is so pretty. Like everywhere you look, it’s just stunning. And then I was like, what is that. And then I was like, that’s a car. And then I was like, Oh my God, that mountain is huge. Like it hadn’t gotten put in to perspective, right until I saw a little car traveling. And then I was like, I thought that was just like a big hill in front of me like a big, like a mountain in front of me. But it was like all mo in front of me. And so every place you looked, it was sort of deceiving. But it was so huge. There’s a photo that I posted. I think it’s on my Instagram now. Um, but it is me in front of a waterfall, and I have the red coat honor, you’d never be able to see me. It’s not that the picture is taken that far away, as much as it’s that it was taken in order to fit the entire waterfall in the photo. And I am standing at the bottom of the waterfall, like not too far from the bottom of the waterfall just looking up at it. And I’m so tiny. It’s so tiny. And it’s because everything is so huge. So that was one of the things that I really, really noticed in Iceland was just how, how big everything was. Okay, so let’s start now that I’ve got, here’s what I’m gonna do, we’re gonna close out this episode, because this has already been 45 minutes, you get the the backstory now. So you know kind of how this goes kind of the dynamic of what’s happening. Hello fellow adventurers. Hi, welcome to the show today. If you’re new here, Hi. Thanks for being here. If you’ve been here for a while, Hi, how’s it going? I’m excited to be here today because, um, well, I’m still in Iceland. Alright. So it’s like, I feel like this is I feel like I let me pause. I’ve had an amazing time. And I still have almost a full week to go. And it’s gotten to the point where people are starting to message me, like, how long are you going to be there? So I know it feels like a long time. And it’s starting to feel like a little like, Okay, I’m ready. I’m starting to feel ready to go back to like, a schedule, you know, I’m really, really enjoying the adventure and having so much novelty. You know, this morning, I actually posted it on on Instagram, maybe it was yesterday morning, although this happens every morning. But I came out of the little cabin where we’re staying. And I just like look around. And it’s I don’t even have words for how amazing it is and how incredible it looks. You guys remember that show? The Truman Show? It had Jim Carrey in it. And he was like, living a life that was being taped, like for TV. So everybody was watching his life. But he didn’t know that. So everyone in his life were actors. But the thing that always like stuck out to me is that the environment that he that that movie takes place in the environment that Truman is living in is like all manufactured. So it’s perfect, right? It’s like, super perfect. And at one point, I’m going to assume you’ve seen this movie because it’s really old. But at one point towards the end, he actually goes out and is able to touch like the edge of the environment. Right? So he realizes, really, he’s in a soundstage. Right? So it’s like, like, like when you make a movie. And so

I can’t I keep feeling like, is this real? There’s something about this, that feels really, like not real. And it’s, you know, the pictures I’ve been posting, it just doesn’t it? It doesn’t do it any kind of justice. It’s magnificent, really. And I’m not sure I’ve ever used that word before in my life, but it is magnificent. So anyway, I had I posted the other day when I walked out of the cabin, and there’s just like, everywhere around me is just like amazing. So had such a good time. And I have to say I’m going to do a huge episode on like, everywhere I’ve gone and the travels and you know if you can come to Iceland come to Iceland. And I’m going to share my itinerary. I know, but I want to do that episode when I’m complete, you know, so like when everything has been completed and done. So I feel like anytime we have an adventure or anytime we want to experience something new. The reason is because we want to feel a certain way. Right? Everything that we want to have in our lives, or be in our lives or do in our lives is because we believe that that’s going to give us a certain kind of feeling.

And I know that there are times where I have gone headfirst into an adept endeavor, knowing I’m going to have the good feelings that I want. But also knowing that there’s going to be challenges and this trip has

really caused so much growth I’m I mean the rest of my life, the rest of my life I will grateful for this time, and this time to not only like explore and see something just so different than what I’m used to. But also this time to have taken a risk, right of like doing this by myself and coming in meeting people I don’t know. Also this time of meeting all these people I don’t know and we there is nothing that gives you a better

understanding of yourself than when you’re with a group of people that you don’t know. And you’re trying to, like, establish yourself of who you are. So this whole trip I will be forever and forever and ever grateful for. And what I wanted to talk about today, there’s so many things that I want to talk about that I feel like I could go in a million different directions. But for right now, what I want to talk about is this trip, and this idea that I had for this trip, because we all go into things thinking, we’re going to get something out of it, right. And there is a level of trust that you have to have when you take a leap, or when you take a step out into the darkness, right into the unknown.

And I want you to think about maybe times in your life where you’ve done something that maybe was a lot different than what you had done before, or you’ve done something that you’re really proud of.

And when you think about those things, and you look back, I bet you also see that there were a certain number of challenges that you had to overcome certain things that came up that you didn’t know, were going to come up. And you had to find the answer or go within yourself to, to stay strong enough to be able to move through the challenges. And when you look back on your life, I bet you have big things where that’s happened, right? I mean, I know I do, this will be one of those things. I know, years ago, I ran a marathon.

And I there was a lot of challenges that came up. And that’s one of like the greatest, like, that’s one that will be one of the highlights of my life. Like, if,

if if I when I am 90 190 day, and I transition, I hope that when we look over my whole entire life, that then we go, oh, we see that thing. And we go Oh, the the time where I did the marathon was the big highlight of my life. Right? I hope that that always remains a highlight. So it is these things that are difficult, that make them have an edge. It’s the thing that makes you remember them, or that makes them valuable. There are times where things went super smooth in my life. I mean, I’m trying to think now see that I can’t even think of one like, you know, I remember going to camp as a kid. I remember it was exciting. I was super excited. My parents dropped me off, I was gone for two weeks, we camped, I vaguely remember things about it. It was fun. And it was a great experience. And I’m grateful I got to go. But I didn’t have to overcome anything. I didn’t have to grow. Really I didn’t have to change a whole lot, you know. And so it’s just not as important, a defining moment in my life. It’s something I experienced, but it doesn’t define who I’ve become.

And I think that when we look back on our lives, the things that define who we’ve become are the things that that contain challenges, the things that were hard. Now, if you agree with all of that, I want you to think about your life moving forward. I want you to think about like what’s to come in your life? And what are the big things that you really want to have in your life. I know that there’s big I talk to people every day in my work, where they have big things, and I have big things too. So I get it.

And those things might

they might be like so huge that you aren’t even sure how that could ever happen.

It might be that it’s something that you want. But you know, it’s gonna be uncomfortable to get there and you just don’t have it in your at this moment.

I talked to somebody recently they wanted to quit smoking. Well, they wanted to not be a smoker.

But when I was talking to them, they and I said do you like smoking? And they said, Yeah, I like it a lot. I don’t want to be a smoker. I wish I’d never started but I smoke now and I don’t want to quit.

And it really got me curious because I don’t think it’s that they didn’t want to quit. I think it’s that they didn’t want to go through what they thought was going to be terrible. That would lead them to being a nonsmoker.

Now,

you probably have goals and dreams and hopes and things that you want to have. And I’m curious, if the reason you’re not doing it is because you know there will be pain in it.

The reason you’re not doing it is because you know there will be a struggle, you know that it will be something you’d have to figure out, you know that there will be something that will become overwhelming.

And

I know that when we have something really big we want to do, we have to have a level of trust, like we have to have faith,

we have to have faith in ourselves, we have to have faith that this could become the thing that this could work that we could attain and have that.

And I know that’s a lot of the work I do in the world is is changing people on a deep, deep unconscious level to believe that they could do it to believe that they are a person who’s worthy of having that outcome.

Now, I think that when we look forward at all of the things that we want to do, and then we retract, when we see or foresee the pain that could be associated with it.

I think that we have Miss placed,

we have misplaced our faith.

I think that we’re kind of trained in our world to think that like I have to have faith that I can do the thing, I have to have faith that I can get there. You know, I want to climb that mountain and I have to have faith that I can get to the top.

But the thing that makes us retract is that we are going to have to overcome things that we’re going to have to change that we’re going to have to grow to get to the top of the mountain. And the very thing that will become a defining moment in your life, that will be the thing that when you’re 190 years old, and you look back over your life, you go that was so great,

was because it was had an element that caused you to change, right? It had an element that caused you to become who you’ve become. Like, that’s what makes it so great.

And so I think the problem is that most people think that they have to trust, they have to have faith in the fact that everything is gonna go the way they think it is. And they don’t have that faith because they know they’ve had things happen in the past that didn’t work out that were hard that they had to grow and change and struggle. And so they can’t have that faith. They don’t have that level of fate. Because past experience has shown them that that’s not really how the world works.

And so they push it to the side and say, I’ll get to that one later.

The leader never really happens, right? I mean, we know that, for the most part. It’s really rare. I’m including myself in this right you all if you’ve been here for a while, you know that I’m I include myself in this is the reason why I don’t do some of the big huge things I want to do. Because I think there’s a lot to figure out person, I don’t have faith that I can do it without going through all this hard stuff. And I don’t want to go through all the hard stuff. But what if we shifted that? What if instead, we said I want that thing? I want to get to the top of the mountain. I want to be on the top of the mountain and I want to feel the breeze. After being here in Iceland. I will tell you I don’t want to feel the cold breeze. I want to be the top of a warm mountain. And I want to look out over the ocean and feel the warm breeze. And I have faith that as I climb that mountain that I can handle the risk. I have faith that as I do this work to become

I’m the person who gets to the top of the mountain, that even though I have problems, I have the internal resources to be able to handle those problems.

That even if there is a redirection in my path, that I have to go a different way that I have the ability to figure out how to make it work. My feet doesn’t need to lie on the fact that I’m at the top of the mountain, my fate needs to lie in the fact that I’m strong enough to grow into the kind of person who can make it up the mountain.

I have to trust that I can grow and expand to meet any challenge that comes in the way of me and the top of that mountain.

And I think the huge problem that we make and why we shrink back, is because we think I don’t have faith, I can get to the top of the mountain. But we don’t have to.

You don’t have to, you have to have faith, that your ability

to find what you need, and to ask for what you need. And to learn through what you need and to grow about what you need will come to you.

You might not know how to get it right this minute. But you know that you’ll expand into it, that when the challenge comes, you will be able to meet it because you have enough mental fortitude to do that.

I think if we want to experience all of the things that we want to have in our life, if we want to experience the amazing views that make you feel like it’s The Truman Show, and the incredible feeling of like hugging people in real life again. And having a now I’m speaking for myself, but having live events and retreats and meeting the people that I think about so often. If I want to have those experiences, then I have to trust that even if it doesn’t work out exactly the way that I have imagined in my mind, that I have the ability to change and grow. And to make it a memory that I will look back on over my life and say, that was so amazing.

We don’t really remember the things that were simple and easy. We remember the things that had an impact, because they caused us to shift and grow. And I think and again, I speak for myself. But I think we need to let go of shrinking back from the fear that it won’t look right that it won’t go right.

One of the things that I know for sure, about myself. And I’ve noticed it here as I’ve been in this group is that there’s a lot of people that know a lot of things about a lot of things.

And I know really deep about a few things that are important to me.

Like, I couldn’t tell you a lot of I have a little handheld computer in my pocket off. So I always say like, I can just Google that I don’t need to know.

Now for some people, it’s fun to know lots of things. And I honor that. But for me, I like to go really deep. I like to go really deep. So I know

that when I’m trying to get to the top of the mountain, there are going to be things that I meet that I will not know what to do about. And I will not even have a clue.

But I know that there are people that do. I know there are people I could go to that know a little bit about everything and they could direct me in the right spot. I know that there are people that go deep on the thing that I’m going to meet that I need to know.

And I also know that I have a little tiny handheld computer that beams information directly into my eyeballs at any time.

So I have trust and faith in that.

And so I asked you, what’s the big dream that you have not not the one that you immediately got in your head just now and pushed aside? Okay, there’s one that just came to you. And then you quickly put it aside to look for another one. I don’t want you to look for the other one. I want you to go back to the one that you just shoved to the side.

I want you to think back to like what were the things I always wanted. Maybe there are things right now that you’re like I would love to do that but I really can’t right now. Do you know in the beginning when I started this show, which has been like five and a half years ago now. Like those first, probably like 50 episodes, I think I had several people on who traveled

as digital nomads, like that was a long time ago, I mean, long time ago in podcast years, a long time ago, I had the girl in her van, and I had that other guy, I should know off the top of my head. But had that other guy that was a remote, Nomad, Jacob, I think his name was or something. Anyway, that doesn’t matter. But it that that was something that I wanted. I explored it and thought about it. And honestly, I could not do it. I wasn’t in a position in my life to do that. You guys probably heard my episode last summer with my daughter on who is, you know, happy and healthy, 20 year old, but at the time, she was very sick, you know, teenager,

young teenager. And so I couldn’t do those things. No, I could do those things. But I chose not to because I chose to be there for my daughter. And that was the right choice for me. But I still had that dream, that goal. So if you have the thing, maybe you’ve shoved it to the side, as soon as I said that, because you have a real reason something else that you’re choosing, that’s okay.

That’s okay. But don’t let it go. Don’t allow it to just crawl under the rug for you to never be able to find it again. Because there may be come a time where you can pull that back out, brush it off,

and see what it looks like for you today. On that day.

So I want you to have faith. Not faith in where you want to go. But I want you to have faith that you can get wherever that is that you have the internal resources that you can find the people that you can make all of those dreams happen for yourself. Because I think when you have that level of faith, that is how you live a big life. I love you so much. I can’t wait to hear about all the dreams that you have. I’ll talk to you soon. Hello, everyone. Welcome to the Art of Living big. I’m excited to be with here today. I am in Iceland still and, of course the wind is howling. I feel like this is a common theme. The wind is howling. You know what’s so funny is when I got here, if you followed along on Instagram, like I was bundled, when I tell you I was bundled like I had fleece long underwear, you know, and sweatpants. And then what I call my Wakey wakey wakey wakey pants you know when you walk and they go

by Wakey wakey is everyone hear calls and wiki wikis now to which I love. And then like wool socks, big boots, or had like two layers underneath my big puffy jacket. I’d have one of those wool things around my neck, you know, to cover my face, a hat to cover my ears and then I’d have my hood up and mittens. Okay, so this is how I started the trip. And I’ve wondered like how do people live that’s here. It’s so cold and so windy, like oh my god. And I know I grew up in Vermont, but me and I’m like this is like next level windy. You know, a couple times when we’ve traveled, I literally haven’t hardly been able to walk. And I’m not exaggerating. We were on the black beach one day. And I had one moment where the wind was howling and pushing you. And I was trying to get back to the van. And I stepped into the snow and it went up to like my mid thigh. I’m so sure Anyway, like I was like, oh my god, next foot all the way down. So I thought I got a push from my hands. And so I pushed for my hands, my hands went in. And the more I tried to get out, the more I dug myself deeper, it was like quicksand. It really really was. And I thought, Oh my God, all those times where I worried about quicksand. As a child, I used to spend a lot of time thinking about quicksand. This was why cuz I would be in this position. I started thinking about Harry Potter, you know, when they’re in that thing of have all the ropes or whatever, you know what I mean? Those vines that like suck them in, they have to just relax. And then they I was like, I do I just relax, like, what do I do? And so I started to yell, I started yelling, I really can’t get out. And there were people like two feet from me, but they couldn’t hear me because the wind was howling. I’m telling you, I had like a moment, it was only a moment or two, where I felt a panic. Like I’m gonna die with my arms and legs in the snow cheek pressed up against the ice, I’ve got to get out of here. And when I finally got my footing and got out, guide, hightailed it back to the van, like I really left everybody, they were still on top of the bank, and like we’re looking in that the beauty and I was like peace out, I gotta go. I gotta get back to where I feel safe, right, where I don’t feel so wobbly. And so, you know, that experience was very, very real. And now that I’ve been here a couple of weeks, I’m like, do we need a jacket to go out, we stopped to get some food the other day, as we were traveling from one spot to the next we’ve traveled, we are traveling to like six different spots doing the whole loop around the whole country. And when we got into the little cafe, there were a couple local kids that were there, like teenagers, one of them had a tank top and shorts on and boots. And the other kid had like a T shirt and shorts. And I thought, oh my god, we’re bundled up in these kids. So it’s my point is you just kind of get used to it, you know, you get where you’re like okay, well, it begins to be part of the experience and not quite so jarring. And when the wind dies down, it’s actually quite nice, but it has made me laugh at how different my experience has been even since the beginning to just two weeks later, right just a few weeks later, how different I am perceiving things. So you know, as I’ve been here, and I’m thinking about now as I’m heading into the last part of My journey here and my time here, I find myself thinking like, what’s next? Like after I go through this experience? Then what’s next?

Do I just go home back to my life because I feel like I’ve grown and changed so much, and learn so much. You know, in January of this year, I spent the month in Florida at the beach. And it was while I was in Florida, that I was inspired to come on this trip. And so I was just home like 10 days, and then I left for this trip. So now I’m going to go home in mid March, I get to, I can’t wait to go to Sedona, we’ll be in Sedona for the live coaches training for NLP, if you want to partake in that. So here I am, I’m heading back, feeling inspired. But what’s next? What’s next. And so I started to feel this sort of constriction around what’s next, because I didn’t know. And I don’t want to go back to normal. I’m using normal and air quotes, I don’t want to go back to normal because I wasn’t really happy. And I wanted to leave that because it didn’t feel good. And I wanted to experience something different. And I wanted to get some confidence back. And I wanted to do all these different things. And now I don’t want to go back. So I wanted to talk about that. Because maybe right now in your life, you’re like, I don’t really like where I am. I don’t like how I feel every day. I can’t go away for a month I get it that that’s a huge privilege. I’m super grateful. And also like, then what do you do with that? Like, how do you proceed because life is still happening. And, and we deserve to have all of that happiness raining down on us, right? We deserve to have all that joy coming down on us. And we’re blocking it and saying I’m not happy because of this. And I’m not happy because of that. And so I wanted to talk about that and share some things that I have done in my life, but also that I’m doing even more actively now. And that is really about setting an intention. Now, don’t glaze over, because you’ve heard all about intentions. I think that there’s a different way to look at this. So as we’ve been traveling in the morning, I typically have been setting an intention. And I’ll say it out loud to the group, right? I told you that they’re all quite different in terms of the experiences that they’ve had, and maybe even how they’re thinking about things. So like, I think the idea of setting an intention maybe was a little new for them. They hadn’t heard of Abraham Hicks, and definitely not a segment intentions like Abraham Hicks teaches. And so in the morning, I’ll set my intention, I believe that we are creators of our reality. And if that’s true, and we create our own reality, then I need to actively be creating it not just creating it on the fault, not just like letting it happen. So how do I actively create it? Well, I actively create it by deciding what it is I want, we get to pick. So what is it that I want? And typically, you know, for me, it’s that I feel cozy because it’s cooled out. I feel cozy, I feel inspired a notice of the beautiful things around me nothing slips by unnoticed, right that I feel connected with the people that I’m with, that I noticed places that I need to heal and I feel secure in the fact that I will know how to heal them. And if that’s a new concept to you, I did an episode on different ways. There’s a million different ways you can heal things, but on some of the ways you can heal things a few episodes ago. And so I set this intention. So now I’m going home and the feeling of I’m going to say dread but dreads not the right word, but the feeling of uncomfortableness around like going back and having everything be normal after having. So I’m going to pause and tell you I have traveled a lot of places. And like I love the beach, you’ve heard me talk about the beach. I love the beach. But Never have I been someplace where every single place you look is breathtakingly beautiful, that I have posted pictures and they are nothing compared to what’s here. I have said many times is this real? Like how can this be real? I feel like I’m in The Truman Show where somebody just put up like, on speakable beauty everywhere, everywhere. So then I’m like, How do I go from that? To like my condo in Atlanta, like, overlooking like some restaurants? Do you see what I’m saying? And so, I do believe deeply that every experience we have can have value. And that that experience right now of me living in that condo in Atlanta has a lot of value. And there’s a lot of things for me to learn. And when I’m rejecting those things, right, when I’m saying no, I don’t like this, then I’m also because how we do one thing is how we do everything, I’m also rejecting the good that can come of it. So I want to shift that my intention is to shift that so that I’m allowing all the good, and then instead, the uncomfortable, the bad things I don’t like then just become contrast to help me refine what it is I do want. If I don’t like looking at my window and seeing a restaurant, which honestly I don’t mind.

I do see a Costco though. You think I would, if I were to create my landscape, I think I would take that out. I would make it more like if I was going to be in the city I’d make it more city like more hustle and bustle and less like warehouse see journeymen because I kind of see like warehouse II and like a lot of trucks and stuff. So I’m imagining in my head like New York City, right, the New York City streets and like what that must look like. And again, I’ve only been to New York City a couple times. So I’m creating what I think that looks like, how can I set an intention so that if I’m in an experience, that isn’t the best that I get what I need from it, and then I use what I don’t like to help me refine what I’m calling in.

And maybe you’re like, I really don’t like this, this is not what I want. This isn’t good. This is uncomfortable. I hate driving, I hate being away all day, I’m not getting stuff done, whatever that is. So setting the intention and saying this is what I do like about it. There’s always a mustard seed of something that we do like about it. And then how can I set the intention to use what I don’t like to simply help me refine? Because nothing is forever. Everything is constantly changing. And where you are right now that you don’t like will shift at some point. I know I’m not going to live in that condo in Atlanta for the rest of my life. But I can use my time there to help me refine so that what comes to me next is even better. If I choose not to do that, and I choose to stay in the uncomfortable and focus on the thing that I don’t like and stay in the amplification of the ways that it makes me unhappy. I will carry that amplification with me to my next location. So instead of refining, and helping me understand and get clear on what I want moving forward, instead, it will amplify the negative the thing I don’t like, and then that amplification will carry with me. So, as I’ve been thinking about going home, I’m thinking about what is it that is uncomfortable to me about that? And how can I use it to refine instead of using it to define right instead of using it to say this is why I hate this place. Right? How can I use it and there’s always a mustard seed of something that’s really good. You know, I’ve talked I talked about this probably years ago. Also I probably need to stop saying I’ve talked about this because because all of it I’ve talked about but I have a friend named Andy Dooley and Andy does taught me this thing called That’s right. And it’s a game that I play. And I play, I’ve played it with my daughter over the years, I play it with my husband.

But what it is, is basically you’re saying that’s right. And then you find the mustard seed of the thing you like, I’m gonna, I’m gonna give you an example in a second. But I say That’s right. And then I find the mustard seed, and all you need is a teeny, tiny mustard seed. And then you say That’s right, again, and then you find the next right, then. That’s right. And then the next right thing. That’s right, and then the next right thing. And what happens is, it allows you to expand into finding the things that are good about your experience, when it can be really hard to jump from, I hate looking out my window and seeing a Costco way down the street, to this is joyful and amazing, right. So I haven’t done it yet for my apartment for my place in Atlanta, but let’s do it now. So all I need is mustard seed. So I’m gonna say, that’s right, I have a nice place to sit outside when I look at my view. That’s right. And part of my view is the side of my building, which is actually really cool looking really like the stone how the stone is. That’s right. I really like the stone. And I like the way the design is sort of It almost reminds me of New York City in a way. That’s right, it reminds me of someplace different than I even am. That’s right, I can be in Atlanta, and also feel like I’m somewhere else. That’s right, it can actually feel really expansive, that could be a good place for me to dream. That’s right, I get to live there. And I get to dream about all kinds of things. That’s right, I can appreciate being there and being able to see all the people that might be having dreams, too. That’s right. People all have such different dreams. And that’s so cool, that I get to witness people down below as they walk around and shop and wonder what their dreams are. That’s right, what I wonder about their dreams are then I expand. That’s right. And I can add to their dreams, I can be witness energetically to what’s happening. And I can wish them good things. That’s right, I could actually sit from my perch on that balcony. And just send love and happiness and good energy down to all the people below me. See how I went from like, I don’t really like it to now it feels like an inspiring place to sit down there and do what I really like to do, which is like, imagine good things for people imagine like, lights coming down on people and just blessing them with happiness and goodness, which may sound kind of strange if you’re new here. But like that feels good to me. So now I’ve taken an experience, where I’ve gotten like I’m having this amazing experience in Iceland, I don’t want to go home to that thing that I’m thinking about. That’s yucky. Now, I’m like I’m having this amazing experience in Iceland. And now I get to take all these good vibes and go home and imagine them washing over other people, which would expands me even more, like so now, just in doing that exercise, it feels really different and good. So I’m curious, as you think about like, what in your experience is something that you’re dreading? Like, what’s something that is happening to you right now, that’s causing you a lot of constriction and maybe causing you a lot of pain and taking your energy, your mental energy away? Because you’re spending so much time thinking about it. I know that can happen for me, you know, I’ll have something that I don’t like, my brain goes, Oh, you don’t like it? Let’s think about it for the next six days. Let’s really expand on that. And all the reasons you don’t like it. But if I can find just a little teeny tiny nugget, it really can start to shift your experience. Now I do this game with other people. So sometimes if I’m kind of in a bad mood, my husband will say That’s right. And then he’ll give me something and then I’ll say, That’s right. And I’ll add to it. And so we’ll go back and forth. And I’ve done this with my daughter, especially with she was sick, it was hard for her to do it, but she could. And I really could that changed her experience on on many, many days. And so try it. You can do it with yourself in the car as you’re driving to the miserable place that you don’t want to go. Right I get it, but find the one good thing. The other thing that I want to point out is that doing this exercise and setting the intention for what you want to experience creating your reality. I’m not trying to take away that it’s hard. Like things can be hard. But what We have

labeled hard as bad, as unwanted, when really hard, can be defining, it can be refining, it can help you on your journey to actually get more of what you do want. So embracing that things are hard or things are uncomfortable or things are unwanted. Because it can help you actually get where you’re going way faster. I think the biggest mistake people make is that they pay too much attention to just how it’s hard. And they pay no attention to how it can actually serve them. I believe and this is a true deep belief that everything is working in our favor. Even the things that are awful. And I’ve had awful things, if you’re new here, I’ve had some awful things happen to me. And I truly believe that they had elements of things that served me. And so I truly have the deep belief that everything is serving me in some aspect. But I can miss it if I don’t use it. So I would encourage you over the next week over the next 24 hours. First thing in the morning, put something right next to your alarm clock or that says like, how do I want to experience today. And if you don’t know what you want to actually happen, pick how you want to feel. Today, I really want to feel this way. You know, today, I really want to feel happy and joyful today I want to notice nuggets. Today I want to notice how I can heal, like not even what needs to be healed. But I want to notice, like a way that I could heal like some new modality or some thought that could help me heal something I’ve already noticed. When I feel pressured or uncomfortable or triggered, I want to immediately shift to notice that that’s a gift for me that the goals that I have in the dreams that I have, are being held back by that thing. And now that I see it, I have an opportunity to fix it, not to ignore it, but to heal it. And when I heal myself, I can heal everybody around me, I contribute to the earth being better, and the planet being more whole. All of that the work that you do on yourself is life changing work for the planet. And when you start noticing those things, and you start taking accountability, for doing the work internally, I think that is how you live a big life. So do this work tag me when something uncomfortable happens tag me I would really want to be like, yes, I want to celebrate that it is that way. Because this can be a really great thing. This could be the turning point. In the next 24 hours. Everything in your life could shift where you are on the trajectory that you always dreamed. It doesn’t have to take a long time. For today, I really wanted to talk to you about confidence. You know, one of the things that I hear a lot from people, whether it’s my coaching clients, or people in my certification, or just people that reach out to me is that they have something that they really want to do. You know, they have some thought or goal or idea of something that they really want to experience in their life. And then when they tell me, then they immediately tell me the reasons why it’s not feasible.

Like, why it can’t happen. I’ve noticed this in myself, too, right? I mean, we all do this, no one’s immune to it. And I’m certainly not anything I teach this, because I’m like, trying to figure it out myself. Right. And I’ve noticed that I think with over the past couple of years with the Coronavirus, and all of us having to be inside during the pandemic, something has shifted. So it’s been almost exactly two years. For me, since COVID. Hit and I had to make adjustments in my life. I was in LA at the time for like a month. And in the middle of that it was a training that I was at. And in the middle of that I decided to leave the training, the training hadn’t even closed down, although a lot of things in the United States had closed down. But I made the decision I needed to leave. And so I left and came home. And for me, that’s when the that’s when the pandemic started. You know, that’s when being home became a really normal thing. And I’ll tell you for me in the beginning, it was like an introverts greatest wish, because nobody was going out. So there I didn’t have to say no, I didn’t have to feel bad about saying no, because everyone was home. And although there was a lot of unknown and it was scary, and I certainly never wish anybody to get sick or, or to die or to lose loved ones. Obviously that’s obvious. I hope. There was also something for me as an introvert that was, so was nice about being home. And, you know that summer, it, I did a lot of things around my house. And I think a lot of us kind of got into like a pattern of being being home and being in this like, bubble. Now. I was lucky where I lived at the time, I had like a big outdoor deck. And I spent a lot of time outside. And that was great. But as time went on, more and more and more, I wasn’t doing things. And then as things began to sort of open up, then I had gotten in the habit of like not doing things. And maybe you were like that too. Like, like there was so much unknown there was so much like information coming and going you didn’t know can I go out? Can it should I stay in? Do I wear a mask? Do I not wear a mask? Do they work do they not wear like, it was also confusing and everyday was something different, which understandably. And it also led me to, instead of it led me to change my behavior where instead of like, having times where I wanted to be inside as an introvert and then having moments of getting my energy by going out and exploring and seeing new things and meeting up with friends or going to dinner, because I couldn’t do those things. Or because that was so unknown. I was constantly pulling back. So now instead of like this ebb and flow of being out being in being out being in I was in and if I went to go out there was a fear around it or a concern. And even for me, there was a concern where I didn’t want people to think that I didn’t care because I didn’t care about what was happening and what was going on with other people. I just I didn’t know what to do. And there was a need and a desire to have novelty. Right. Our brains love consistency, but they also crave novelty. And I was craving novelty. And I think if you were an extrovert that was even more painful for you. You probably really crave novelty and maybe There was even a level of feelings of depression, right feelings of feeling like boxed in and sad about that. And I believe that throughout that experience over the past two years, because it was an extended period of time, it wasn’t like two weeks. Remembering the beginning, did you think it was going to be like two weeks? Because I remember thinking like, I’m not even gonna buy a mask, I won’t need 100 Poor, naive, Betsy. I didn’t know. But I think that in that experience over the past two years, I think something has happened. That is like a secondary pandemic. And I think that that is a confidence, a confidence in doing a confidence in trusting yourself, because you never knew what was happening and how people would perceive you in what was the right thing or the wrong thing. And I think that that level of uncertainty, bled into our everyday lives. And you may have heard me say this before, you may have heard this quote before, but how you do one thing is how you do everything. And I, I believe that I believe that if we want to discover something about ourselves, or we want to understand why we’re not getting the thing we want, we need to just look at the rest of our life and see how we’re responding to things, how we’re reacting to things and how we relate to things. Because how we do one thing, is how we do everything. And so now we’re in this position where we’re home for two years, right? It is very uncertain. The rules change every day, we are pulling ourselves in more and more out of like, information or misinformation. And now our confidence is starting to dwindle. Because we never know if we’re doing the right thing or not. And part of confidence is being really sure of yourself. And now we’re going out in some places, we need masks and some places we don’t. And how we do one thing is how we do everything. And so now I’m unsure of myself out here. And so now I’m unsure of myself in other places, too. And maybe you’ve noticed this, that you’re unsure of yourself in places that you didn’t notice, it starts to bleed in to our lives, I imagine. This is the image that’s coming to my mind is like a paper cutout of a human form. And it’s like a paper towel, right? And you take a watercolor and you put it on, you put the paper, you put the watercolor, and it doesn’t just go where you put it. It like expands out, right, and the edges of it bleed into other areas of yourself. And so nothing happens in a vacuum. And so as we were having this experience, I believe it started to disintegrate other parts of ourselves where we felt sure. I mean, I think that there was a lot of divorces, a lot of people got separated over that. I mean, I know I heard about it, from many, many, many people. I mean, I’m sure there’s a statistic on it, right? Because things that we were sure of before, suddenly felt unsure. And the places where we felt unsure begin to expand, because we didn’t have certainty in other areas. And so

I saw I wanted to talk about that, because I wanted to see if that was something that you’ve been experiencing. And I wanted to talk about some ways that I noticed this in myself, and some things that I’m doing about it. I got an email this past week asking me about Iceland. And a lot of people have been asking a lot of people have been really curious, like, why are you going for so long? How come it’s so long? Like why are you there for a month like that seems unusual to people? And then it seems unusual to people that I would be here for a month and not have my husband. And then it seems unusual to people that I would be going with strangers, like the whole thing seems understandably like I understand that. So when I’ve gotten several messages, and then I got an email asking what’s the intention, like what’s your purpose of your trip? And I realized the purpose for my trip was well, the outcome of the trip is I’m getting more than I bargained for which is great. But the purpose of my trip was really to get my confidence back. The purpose of my trip was to put me in positions where I was forced to grow. Like the purpose of the trip was to be able to say like these are all the areas where I’ve noticed that I have restricted Over the past two years, and I don’t want to wait in a normal everyday situation for me to start to open up, right, like a flower, like open up really slow. I want to force that experience. That was, for me, that’s just how it felt. For me, I wanted to force that experience. And for me, forcing that experience meant totally changing my environment. Because I believe that travel in general hopes to expand but if you are traveling someplace you’ve never been. And then you’re traveling someplace that doesn’t speak your language, and you’re traveling to someplace where food is different. And every, like, everything is different. It, it makes you very wobbly, and you’re forced to go inward to find stability. And I think that lots of times, in our everyday life, we lean on other things to give us the things that we don’t have internally, we all do this, right, we all do this, where we’re like, I don’t feel that good. I’m gonna go shopping on the internet, because I can buy myself something from Amazon and have it delivered in a day, and then I feel better, right, or I can eat, I’m gonna go make a cake, or I’m gonna have a drink, or whatever thing it is that you do. When we feel wobbly, we many times what we do is we go to find a way to feel that security. And I wanted to take away that outside security so that I was forced to go inward, so that I was forced to find the confidence and the stability internally. And by internally, this is what I mean, I wanted to have an opportunity to focus or to rely on my beliefs and my values and my identity. O, I’ll see you over there. And if something in there was wobbly, I wanted to be able to root it out. And it’s hard to root it out when everything around you is familiar. Now I want to talk about that for just a minute. What do I mean by values, beliefs, and identity. So when we talk about the unconscious mind, right, I’m I go conscious to unconscious, and my unconscious mind is running about 95% of everything that I do. And if that’s the case, then that means that when I feel wobbly, I need to be able to go to the 95% I need to be able to go internal, because if I’m relying on the 5%, that’s conscious, that’s not enough stability. And that’s when I start going outward, right? I start going to having a drink or meeting up with other people, right relying on other people to give me. So when I’m forced to go inward, I’m forced to check these higher levels of my unconscious mind. Now, one of the very first levels of my unconscious mind is my beliefs. This is like what do I believe about the world. Anything that you think over and over again, is a belief, the way that you have structured your reality is a belief. The things you believe to be true, are a belief, the things that you don’t even realize are beliefs, but that have created a structure that allows you to live your life. It’s your beliefs. So our reality is created by what we believe. And it can be really, really easy when everything around us supports that. So my beliefs could be something really simple. Like, I believe I’m a kind person, right? I believe that my gift is of gab, I have the gift of gab, right which is why I chose to do a podcast as my thing, okay. But it’s also that I believe that I believe that the the world is generally like a kind place, or that I believe certain areas of the world are scary. Or I believe that people that are married, should try this a good one that people that are married, should travel together, they shouldn’t have separate vacations. Right? And that might be one that you have. So I’m noticing all of these things, and how do I push past the boundaries of what those beliefs are? And question those beliefs, and decide which ones are worthy of Me leaning on so that I don’t feel wobbly anymore. Alright, so just above my beliefs or my values, my values come from my, my youth from growing up, right? We get it from our parents and our grandparents. By the age of seven, usually, we have our deep seated core values. And those are things that generally we would fight to the death for. They’re not going to be things that we shift very easily. Right. I don’t believe we should kill people, right? Like that is I, I would fight you for the death. That makes sense, right? But like, those are things that I would fight for that I believe we shouldn’t be murderers, right? There are certain things that we have that form our reality, that are things that we just picked up from our upbringing. I had a friend years ago, who was super religious, she was Christian. She is Christian, super Christian. And we were talking one day about being Christian and her faith and what that meant, I’m always really curious about how people believe in what they think. And I said, Well, it’s interesting, because if you were born, like in a different country, you probably would believe something different. And right off, she was like, No, I would not, because what I believe is truth.

And I thought that was so interesting that she that she really didn’t have a concept of that truth came from her values, it came from her experience if she had been born, like in a Hindu religion, that would feel like truth. Like if that’s the way she was brought up, that would feel like normal, and that would feel like real, and reality and, and truth. And so I think there are times where we don’t realize how much just our environment has created our concept of reality. And that shows up in our values, some of the deep work that when I when I when I train people, and my level two training is how to really identify what those values are for people, it can be really, really powerful for entrepreneurs to make. I say entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs, or anybody, anyone, but I, I do it a lot with entrepreneurs to be able to find out what your values are, so that you can make business decisions based on those so that they align with who you are, right? Having this confidence being shaken. Right? I mean, I’m home for two years, I want to have an expedited experience of relying and evaluating what my beliefs and my values are and my identity. And for me, I thought, my identity, the perfect place to check it is going to be in a group of people, I don’t know, it’s going to show up for me in how I react to people. What I’m thinking, I’m what I’m thinking about other people is telling me something about me. It’s showing me a place where perhaps I’m I am really confident or a place where perhaps I need healing. Being in a group made me recognize how I showed up and where my lack of confidence SAT. There were things that people said that were totally different from my belief. And I didn’t, it didn’t shake me at all, I was completely fine with them having the belief that they had, because I felt so strongly in my belief. I didn’t feel challenged, I felt totally fine if they believe something very different. One of the things that’s been fun about this group is that they didn’t know a lot of the teachers that I know. So they nobody knew who Dr. Joe Dispenza was, or Dr. Bruce Lipton, or Abraham Hicks, no one had heard of so it’s been fun for me to share those things. And what that means also is that this group has a whole bunch of experiences and things that I don’t write because they’re not shared experiences. We don’t have a lot of shared things. So you noticing when someone else says like, and they’re all very kind, so Nobodies, but they’re sharing their own experience of like, I’m not a spiritual being having a physical experience. I’m just having a physical experience. There’s no spiritual side to any of this. And I, I felt so good about that. No, that sounds strange. But I did not feel rocked or challenged by that I didn’t feel like I had to convince them otherwise, I actually really, really appreciated how they felt about that. And I liked it. I liked that they felt so sure. And so I knew that my there was no trick, there was nothing to heal in that. Now, other times people have said stuff, I know I have a lot of things to heal in terms of my understanding and education around politics, I don’t like to talk about it, because I don’t feel like I know enough. And in the United States, I don’t feel like my education around it was very good. I noticed that as they speak, they’re much more educated about it. And I know that that’s a cultural thing. I’m guessing that’s a cultural thing.

Just because it’s so different from me, everybody in that aspect is so different from me. And so I realized that that made me shaky, it made me wobbly, it made me unsure. And so it gave me an opportunity to see something that I needed to heal, I either needed to be 1,000%, okay with that, or I needed to take action and fix it. If I wanted, get educated, learn more, you know, become better at having conversations and sharing my point of view. Sometimes with politics, especially, and maybe you’re like this, too. I know how I feel. But I can’t explain it. And I don’t necessarily have the facts and statistics to back it up. And although I don’t want to be an erg, viewer of politics, there’s a belief in there, did you hear it? I do think that it showed me something that perhaps would help my confidence. So then why did I come here? I did it so that I could find so that I could have an experience where I could find what needed to be healed, gained my confidence, understanding my understand my footing, and really get a clearer view of my identity. And that’s what I’ve done. So I offer that little thought to you and that that story of why I’m here and why I did this. And what I believe, you know, the other one that I mentioned earlier was people that are married should travel apart, like, especially for a month, right? It seems kind of strange. And a lot of people have asked me that. I’ve had a lot of people ask me, like in covert ways, you know what I mean? And I would just challenge you of like, why does that have to be, you know, my husband works full time at a job where he has to go in, I work full time at a job where I can go anywhere. So because I made the decision and the choice to marry him, does that mean that I have to change the experiences that are available to me? Does that mean I have to choose not to have the life experiences that I crave. Because I chose a partner who can’t travel in the same way that I can. Like just something to think about. And maybe for you that is what it means. For me it doesn’t. But what I’ve sensed is, for a lot of people, that is what it means that you don’t do that. And I can tell by their messages, which doesn’t make me feel wobbly at all, I’m actually happy to share my point of view on it. So where can you and you might not be able to go away for a month with a bunch of strangers. But where can you start to recognize what needs to be healed? How you can gain your confidence? And how can you put yourself in situations that causes you to expand and to go inward? Instead of going outward? To find your stability someplace else? This could be a really interesting experiment. If I didn’t have this month to go. And when I get back, I’ll probably do it in smaller ways. Like how can I put myself in uncomfortable positions so that it becomes glaring at me, the things that need to be done? Right becomes glaring, the things that need to be healed, it becomes glaring, the things that I’m good at the things that make me me the things that I like. And I think when you get clear on that, you get a path. And I think that when you’re walking that path, that is how you live have a big life. So I hope this was helpful. Hello and welcome. Welcome to the Art of Living big. Hello fellow adventurers. I am recording, I have to tell you, I’m here in Iceland. And I’m with like my group, you’ve heard me talk about this on the show. And if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen way too much of my trip in Iceland. But I’ve been here a couple of weeks that we are staying in Airbnb, which feel like, I don’t know, like cabins maybe like, like summer houses, right. I mean, they’re winterized, but the walls feel very thin. So I keep like having these ideas of things to record. And then I’m like, Oh, my gosh, I don’t want to be like, in the room, and everyone can hear everything I say. And this goes out to 1000s of people. So I don’t know why I’m worried about the people in the House hearing me like they could just listen later. So I finally decided I’m just gonna sit, I’m going to sit in the corner, and record the show, because I have things to say. And I have things that I want to share with you. And just ideas that I’ve had that I hope will kind of help you on your journey. So I’ve been here about two weeks, I have a couple more weeks to go here in Iceland. And honestly, it’s been really such an interesting experience, like on multiple levels. First of all, just traveling to a totally different place. And I’m going to do an episode where I break down the places I went and give you my itinerary to download and all that stuff. After I have been through the experience, but I’m noticing, you know, when I when I came here, I had to travel through Heathrow Airport through London, you know, change planes and airlines, and getting here was a long experience. It took me like 30 hours of traveling. And I think in that there was a lot to grow through. Right, I hadn’t traveled by myself in a long time, like other than to the beach, right. And so that whole experience was was like a growth period. And then I got here. And I stayed in Iceland for a couple days by myself and I went to the Blue Lagoon and did those kinds of things. Again, like a growth experience, like I’m in a different country, people speak English, for the most part, but also, you know, a lot of informations and not in English. And not everyone speaks English and not all menus are in English. And so that has been another level of like growth and experience. And then coming together with my group. There’s nine of us here. And that, you know, a group transforms as they spend time together. You know, in the beginning, we were strangers all getting together and having this experience. And then we got to know each other. And, you know, we all, we all go through things when we get in a group, right? We’re, like more guarded. And then we begin to show ourselves who we really are. And then we become comfortable. And then we become friends. And then we become like where you’re joking around and you feel like free to be yourself. And so going through that experience. Honestly, other than my NLP classes. I haven’t been in a group like that in a long time. I haven’t worked in an office in oh my gosh, 10 years, more than that, probably close to 15 years. So there’s been a lot, a lot of growth and change. And I can already feel my reaction to things like in my everyday life becoming different, right? Because as we go through things, and you’ve been through things like this to see you know what I mean? But as you have growth experiences, you change, and then your reaction to everyday things change. And then the way you experience things change and the things you’re inspired by change the things you’re willing to put up with change. And so I still have a few more weeks to go so I know that there is a lot to uncover. And what I wanted to talk to you about today is really about when we have advanced chairs. Now, I realize this is kind of a big adventure, right, like a month in Iceland is kind of a big adventure. But you’ve probably I mean, a lot of you have probably done adventures like this or even bigger. I have some friends that took a whole year, they did remote years, the company that they used, and they traveled around the whole world for a year, I’ve listened to podcasts where people have traveled around for years for several years, like doing this kind of thing. And so I know that my experience isn’t necessarily unique, although it was unique to me.

But I know that even without this, we have times in our life, where we are going through something or we’re experiencing something. And for me, I think because I’ve had the podcast for the past almost six years, five and a half years now. I’m always thinking about how to share or what’s the lessons in it? And I think I think that way anyway, what’s the lesson in it? And that’s welcome. The podcast kind of morphed into that kind of experience in those kinds of lessons. But as I’ve been traveling, I’ve realized that I’m going through all of these changes, and I’m experiencing all this new stuff. I’m seeing all of these new things, and I’m getting an appreciation for things in my life and things that are new. And I keep trying to figure out the what’s the overarching message? What’s the meaning? With what is what should I do with this? I think that’s the thing, what do I do with this? And I wanted to bring that to you. Because you may have things in your life like that to where you’re like, Okay, I really want to learn how to use a camera, but then what am I going to do with it? Or I really want to learn how to speak French. But then what do I do with it? Do I go on a trip to France, like what, and I’m beginning to understand. And I’m beginning to get an appreciation for the fact that sometimes we don’t have to do anything with it, in order for it to have value. I think as Americans, as people in the United States, I’m guessing that as Americans, we’re a very hustle culture. And that if we do something that it has to be for some other reason, like a reason that makes money or impacts something, or has some greater meaning. And, you know, as I’m traveling around with people from all different countries, I’m starting to notice it brings into your awareness, some of the things about yourself that are probably unique to the country that you’re from, and the environment you grew up in. And one of the things that I’m noticing is that most of the people here I think they just want to have experiences for joy, like they to have joy is enough. And with me, I’m thinking like, well, what does it mean? How do I how does this? How does this reflect on my life story, like I’m trying to make a meaning of it. So if you’re not on my text list, I text out messages that I get when I do my deep streaming. And my deep streaming is where I talk to my inner knower, whether that’s a higher self, or my the universe or guides or whatever you want to call that. My deep streaming is where I hear a voice of truth. And I teach people how to do deep streaming on themselves and how to facilitate deep streaming in my in my certification program. But when I was doing it the other day and I texted this out what I heard was never once have we said figure it out. All we said was enjoy it always said was experience it always said was appreciate it. Never have we said you must do something with the experience. Let go of doing and step into being. When I wrote that when it came out. I was like oh my gosh, like, who told me that every experience had to have some kind of greater meaning that I had to figure something out or create something from it or make money from it or have it serve some greater purpose. What if I just do the thing and I experience it and it’s joyful? And that’s it. And I’ll go one step forward. What if I never think about it again? Like what if I experience something that’s joyful? And I want you to think about how your body feels right? Right now when I’m saying that you experience something that’s joyful, and then you never think about it again. Is it enough? Like, did that? Is that enough? And the more that I’m here, and the more that I’m experiencing things, I’m beginning to shift to think that that’s just enough. Last night, we did, one of the people we’re traveling with, is a light painter. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of that. But it’s so cool. He sets up his camera, and he uses a variety of different lights to basically paint

on the picture. So nothing that’s not lit shows up in the photograph. And so you may have seen, it almost looks like a ribbons of light all around. You know what I mean? And it was so fascinating. He’s one of the best light painters in the world. And so he did a class on how to do it, and we all got to try. And it’s so funny because we all tried, and then he did it. And it was like amazing. Like he drew like a picture. It was incredible. And mine looked like just like a kindergartener with a crayon. Are you looking for a speaker for your next event? And I don’t know that I’ll ever do that again. And I started to think like, How can I do that? Like, could I learn the energy behind it was do I need to figure this out so that I can bring this forward? Like, do I need to figure this out? So I’m now doing light painting? I know that sounds kind of ridiculous. But I think you’ve probably experienced something like that before, right? Where you’re like, I’m learning this thing. What do I do with it? And last night, when I lay down in bed, I was so tired last night. And I thought, it’s enough to not have to do anything with it. It’s enough to just have had that experience. And then I went one step further. And I was like, Is it enough? To never think about it again. Now, I have thought about it, and I have shared it. So I guess I’ve done something with it in the end, but not out of obligation. I’m curious about the things that happen in your life. Do you shove out? Do you close the door? For moments of joy, from moments of just being silly, if they don’t mean anything? And I’m assigning meaning by saying if they only have meaning in the moment, but outside of that moment, there’s not a meaning. Because here’s what I think. I think that for me, and maybe for you too, is that I shove out room for joy, if it doesn’t belong, or expand into something else. I know sometimes people have reached out to me to do my certification. And they’re like, I really want to do it. But I don’t know that I want to be a coach. And what I’m realizing is that that’s the same exact thing as me last night thinking, I want to learn this light painting, but then what do I do with it? It’s enough to have learned it because it changed me. It might not be like this profound, like, huge shift in my life. But absolutely, it had an impact. You know, I’ve talked before about how we’re all playdough and every hand that touches us, makes a thumbprint on our playdough and what are the thumb prints that you want? And sometimes the thumbprints don’t have to have a greater meaning for them to be

joyful, and for them to be important. And for them to shift who you are. I could never think about light painting again. But that part of my brain has expanded and I’ve had that experience and just the more joy that I have it is leading to better and better and better things. It’s almost like I feel like practicing Joy allows more joy to come. Right? Because I get better at allowing joy. I have the belief that all the joy, all the happiness, all of that is coming at us. This is the weird image that’s coming to me. So bear with me that this will seems very strange. Let’s say we are laying at the bottom of a sink. So we’re tiny, we’re laying at the bottom of the sink and up faucet is being turned on and the faucet is just coming down on us, right? It’s splashing all over us almost so much that it’s like painful, right? Like the worry are a little TinkerToy. All of the all of the water’s coming down fast and furious. I believe that that’s joy and happiness coming at us. And what we’ve done is we’ve built we’ve put our hands up to stop the water, we’ve taken like pain, and we’ve made a bridge, so the water doesn’t hit us. We’ve done all kinds of things to create shields, to keep us safe from all that water. Because for whatever reason, we think we don’t deserve it. And so our job is not to find joy and find happiness, it’s already trying to come at us like a giant waterfall out of the faucet, all we need to do is remove the barriers to it. All we have to do is stop restricting it. And I think for me, and maybe for you too, one of the ways that I restrict it is by thinking it’s not enough to just have it. I don’t deserve it unless I do something with it. And so I want to challenge you, as you go about your day, you know, do you not pause and experience like a little bit of joy? Maybe it’s a funny conversation with somebody, because you’re like, I gotta get to work. Right? Maybe it’s playing a game with your kids, you’re like, I don’t know, I’m tired. What’s the purpose? Like, we got so much to do? I don’t know, can you can we remove some of those layers that keep us from just allowing the joy and happiness to come in. I noticed this about myself. And so I’m wondering if you have it too. And as I have had this awareness and spent some time, especially the last few days of just allowing it to be fun, and just allowing it to be joyful. You know, I’ve learned a lot from the people that are here. Like so much more. It like makes me emotional. Like more than they would know. And I could do an episode on each of them and how much I’ve learned and love them.

But one of the things that I noticed is that they have a lot of joy. You know Andreas, who organized the event. He just does silly, fun things just because it’s fun. He comes up with like the most fun ways to do things. Just by being in the experience. You know, last night, I mentioned we were doing the light painting. And towards the end, he was like we could play Pictionary with this, this would be the most fun Pictionary. And so all the lights were off and everybody played Pictionary. He could find the joy just in by being present in the moment. Like if you’re thinking, what am I going to do this? How do I create something out of this? What do I do? How do I share like, but he was just being present in the moment and found joy. I noticed there’s a lot of singing here. Like having fun. And part of me has wondered. I’m older than a lot of the people here, you know, 20 years older, and like have I had something shifted as I’ve gotten older. But I’m not sure that that’s it. I don’t know that that has to be it. I think it’s something else. I think it’s a lens in which you view life and it’s a lens in which you you view joy. I think that they are under the water faucet and they allow the water faucet to come down and may not have as many guards or shields to keep it from them. It’s okay to just have the joy for no reason. So, I offer you this thought because maybe there’s times in your life where you’re doing that to where you’re keeping yourself from joy and you’re thinking it’s frivolous or you’ve got to do something with it. And never once as the universe said figure it out. All they said was enjoy it. All they said was experience it. And all they said to do was appreciate it. Never once have they said that you must do something with it. And I think when we get to that point, that’s how we live a big life. Thanks so much for listening. I will see you all next week.

Hi, hello. Welcome to the Art of Living big. Hi, everybody. Welcome fellow adventurers. You know, if you’re if you’ve been here for a while, you’ve heard me say that and you’ve probably heard me talk about why I say that. But it’s making me think that maybe there are new people and you don’t know why I say welcome, fellow adventurers. And I have the belief that we are spiritual beings here having a physical experience. And this is our adventure. So I always like to, to welcome you because I believe we are adventurers come down to have this really magical experience. So which sometimes doesn’t feel quite so magical, but it’s it is an adventure nonetheless. So, welcome, welcome to the show. I am recording this when I’m still in Iceland. By the time you listen to it, I think I’ll be back. But I am recording it. Now. The wind has been howling, it has been so crazy. I really, really love Iceland. It’s really beautiful. It’s like a nother planet, you know, we are traveling along this ring road. That’s like this big circle that goes all the way around the country. And all the different parts of the country just looks so different. Like there’s so many different parts of Iceland. You know, there’s waterfalls, and hotsprings and it’s just really unbelievably beautiful and really fun. And the winds just howls it has been so windy. We went to a waterfall the other day and I have those. I have those like spikes. You know how you can get like spikes for your shoes. So like the day before, like two days before I left, I left on a Tuesday. It was like a Sunday morning. I was like I’m going to order those spikes from Amazon. They were like 12 bucks. I almost didn’t do it. But then I did. And I’m so glad that we did they came like overnight, you know how Amazon sometimes knows. It knows, right? It knows you’re ordering stuff. And it like starts moving things to a warehouse closer to you that it thinks you’re going to buy. Did you know that it’s so creepy and so convenient. Because I used to that so that it helped me get these spikes. So thank goodness, I have these spikes, Grace, purchase our 12 bucks if you come to Iceland, but we are here and it’s so icy and it’s so windy, it’s almost hard to stand up, you know. And we went to this waterfall. And it was really unbelievably beautiful. If you’ve followed along on Instagram, you’ve seen all my photos but really, really amazing. And thank goodness that I had like a little bit of abdominal strength left in my life. And these spikes because I think I would have flown right over the edge. I could barely say stay standing up. It was so windy. And then when we came back to our Airbnb, like the wind was just whipping. I almost don’t feel like it’s snowed that much since we’ve been here but it’s been like a whiteout because this the wind is whipping. And it was like Hurricane, hurricane force winds. That first night of those crazy winds in the Airbnb, no windows were shaking and rattling. I mean, like we were all concerned that the windows were going to break but maybe they’re built for that kind of thing here. Anyway, we were supposed to shift and go to our next Airbnb but we couldn’t because the wind is still so bad. And conditions are just really not you can’t be out. So we are hunkered down and very cozy. And we have been working and doing this like Skill Share thing. So I’m here with a group of people. There’s nine of us we’re from all different countries, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Hungary,

Sweden, Portugal. So it’s been just such a like a fun thing, right? Because you’re getting to see everybody else’s sort of vision of the world and so many new things and ways to see things. And one of the things to me is we were doing this like Skillshare thing we’ve been talking about. So each of us came up with a list of things that we could share. And then we all voted on what we wanted to to the others to teach. So throughout our time here we’ll be teaching each other. So anyway, I’m teaching something on the subconscious I’m, of course, I’m very excited about it. But one of the things I mentioned tonight, when we were sitting around was Abraham Hicks. And everyone looked at me, no one had heard of Abraham Hicks, which to me was very fun, because I love to be able to share. And if you don’t know who Abraham Hicks, I did a, I did a, I did a show, I think it was like back in the 70s, maybe like 72 or 74, on Abraham Hicks and who that is. But I love being able to share that. And I realized that, you know, sometimes we spend a lot of time with people that are just like us, right? They think like us and know the same stuff as us. And so I’m learning so many cool things from them that I didn’t know before. And hopefully they’re learning some cool things for me. But one of the things that I noticed was that I was using words, you know, like, channeling and the vortex and alignment? And I don’t I know, they didn’t know what channeling was, because I asked, but I don’t think that the other words either were clear, and it got me thinking, as I have been doing a lot of your over the last little bit just about alignment. And what does that even really mean? You know, what does alignment even really mean? And

I think that we use that word. And typically when we use it, it means like, things felt easy. I was happy. You know, I was at work. And it was an alignment, I felt really good about the project, I felt like doing whatever it was I had to work on. Or maybe it’s like, you know, I met somebody and we were totally in alignment, right? Like, we think the same, we talk the same, like we finished each other’s sentences, right? So alignment is like when I feel really good. When things are easy, right? When things are in the flow, that’s when I know that I’m an enlightenment. And I think that alignment feels like this magical thing that happens to us. And like, we’re like, oh, this, oh, I’m in alignment, like, thank goodness. But it’s like I stumbled into it. But really, what what is alignment? What does that actually mean? And really, there’s another reason why it feels really good, or why it happens. And if we know why it can happen, then we can create opportunities for it to happen more and more. And when to be nice to be able to be in alignment for more of the time than you are right now. I have a client that I worked with, and we did some work together. And she was like I was in alignment for like a week after that. And then you know, as life happens, life happened. And I thought it was so interesting, because as we start to move things in her mind, as we do this work together, this NLP, she’s going to start to notice she’s in alignment more and more, and she can hold that vibration for longer and longer. So what does that work? What is it? How to how do you what is alignment really? And how do we get there and stay there. So we’re going to talk about that. So first, if you’re new here, if you’re you’ve been here for a while, you’ve heard me talk about it. But this is always good to hear again. So when I think about my mind, I have a conscious mind. And this is the mind that’s like listening to me and making a judgement driving, you know, all of those things that the thing that when you’re talking yourself in your head, and then you also have an unconscious mind. Now your unconscious mind is it does all of your bodily organs stuff. But it also does like your facial expressions. It does. It is the thing that notices what’s important and brings it to your conscious mind. Right? It’s the part of you that just does stuff without thinking. So like you go to brush your teeth, you probably don’t have to like watch a YouTube video every night you just kind of know. Your unconscious mind also helps you to generalize. So like here I am in Iceland, and I see a car I’ve never seen this kind of car before. But I know it’s a car because my mind is really helpful and it likes to generalize. My unconscious mind also deletes and distort stuff for me. So it’s going to delete stuff. If I am overwhelmed, there’s so many new things. I’m here on this trip. I have to focus right I’m at the airport, I got to focus. There’s so many new things. It’s going to delete the sounds maybe on the intercom if I don’t need them. It’s going to delete all kinds of background noise that would overwhelm me. It’s only going to let in the things that are really important. And it’s going to distort things. It’s going to make things look certain way to make it easier for me, I have a really good video that I made about that. But but let’s stick with the alignment here today so so my unconscious mind is doing a lot of things. Now when people talk about their nervous system, and like your nervous system getting overloaded, have you ever heard that like my nervous system, your your nervous system is actually taking in all of the outside world. So it’s the mechanism like takes in what you see and what you hear and what you smell and what you feel, right. So in NLP, we call that a V cog, visual, auditory gustatory, right. So all of the ways that we take in vague cog. So if I’m taking in all this information, there is an endless amount of information. I mean, imagine standing in the middle of London’s Heathrow Airport, right, that’s a tremendous amount of sounds, sights, smells, right? Activity, feeling you feel stuff on your skin, people walking by movement, like there’s a lot going on. And so if you can imagine all of that stuff coming into my nervous system, my unconscious mind is going to process that. And it’s gonna push forward only the thing to my conscious mind that it thinks is important. Okay, so let me say that again. So I’m here I’m in the middle of the airport is busy, busy, busy, right. And there’s two doors, okay, one of the doors, all the information is coming in to the airport, right? The door out, only a few selected, people are leaving the airport. And those few selected people are only the people that my conscious mind wants my unconscious mind wants me to know about. It’s like, we’re going to weed out all of this plethora of these millions of people coming in. And we’re going to give you just two or three people, right, we’re going to give you just like a handful of people. And those are the only people because if you were trying to look and meet and talk to everybody, you’d never be able to. So that’s sort of what’s happening when your nervous system, it’s like all of this stuff is coming in and your nervous systems like I can’t do this, your unconscious mind is like, it’s fine. We’re only going to give her consciously what she can handle. So the bits they call it a bit is how they break this down. So there might be 2 million pieces of information coming in. There’s only 126 bits of information that will become conscious to you. Does that make sense? So all this informations coming in, but it’s all coming in? Just because you’re conscious of it doesn’t mean you don’t know it. That’s a really hard thing for people to understand. When I say people, I mean me when I first started learning that this was a really hard thing for me to understand. Because I was like, Well, how to like, I don’t know it. Like I don’t know, I go to a busy restaurant. And there’s 14 tables around and everybody’s talking. I don’t know everyone’s conversation. But you do. You actually do. They’ve done studies on it, and you could be hypnotized. And you could you could play back a conversation at another table that you were not even aware of that was there. So your unconscious mind is taking in all of this information. Okay, so now we’re good with that, right?

It’s only showing me the things that are important. How does it know what’s important? That knows what’s important because I give a lot of attention to it and a lot of energy emotion, right? So I hit my arm on an iron and it hurts. And I give them a lot of emotion. Right? I probably scream I grabbed my arm I run it. It’s like a whole lot of commotion. My unconscious mind is like that’s super important. If you ever see an iron, you probably need to steer clear make sure she’s aware. And now anytime You get near an iron, you’re gonna notice it. Right? It’s gonna come into your conscious awareness and you’re gonna be like, oh, there’s an iron. So

the other way is by repetition. So I brush my teeth every day, I do it the same. In the beginning, my mother had to show me how to do it. I think she had to yell at me a lot to do it remind me to do it, right. But after a while, I did it so much. I do it all the time. I was actually in an NLP training with a woman that’s now one of my good friends. But she was like, you brush your teeth all the time. Like I had to bring a toothbrush. Anytime I ate anything, go brush my teeth. Like, I don’t even have to think about it. I just know that if I’ve eaten something, I have to go brush my teeth. It’s like a compulsion. Now I suppose. So repetition. So one is emotion, right? Hit my arm on iron. Number two is repetition. And number three, is like mind hacking, like relaxing enough being hypnotized. Doing NLP doing any of the healing modalities like any of that stuff. Okay, so my unconscious mind will, I can hack it in order to say this is really important. Notice this thing. Okay. So now, I have all this unconscious stuff coming. I notice what is conscious what comes to me as conscious based on those things. Now, what is alignment, then? What is alignment mean? If you could imagine that when I set a goal, I do it consciously, right? I sit down, I write down my goals, I think about what I like I decide what I want, I see somebody else doing something and I go, Oh, that looks fun. I want to do that. That’s a goal I have. It’s conscious. But remember, we said conscious was only that 126 bits, that little teeny, teeny part. So consciously, I’m like, I want that thing. And then if you could imagine, your unconscious mind is actually the goal getter. It goes and gets the thing that you want. And it will do exactly what you tell it to do. It doesn’t. It doesn’t. Like, it doesn’t go like does Betsy really want it? It doesn’t like have a judgment. It doesn’t say like, well, she did that stupid thing. 10 years ago, she shouldn’t get this like, that’s not It’s not karmic thing. Like there’s nothing. It just wants to do what it thinks it’s supposed to do. And it knows what it’s supposed to do, based on values and beliefs and a whole bunch of stuff, right? That creates that. That whole pattern that tells you tells it if it should push it to your consciousness, right? So there’s this whole thing going on. So if you can imagine now that I have this goal that I’ve set, and I have two trains on a track next to each other, right, the train on the right, is my conscious train, that train knows exactly where it’s going. I mean, it is focused, it has the goal written down. It’s written it in the present tense, it’s done the SMART goal process, it is ready and it is heading north. It’s like I’m going north, I know exactly what I’m doing. And then on the other track, on the left hand side is your unconscious mind is a way bigger train. I mean, this train is on Monster train. And this is the goal getter. It’s the train that’s going to actually pick up and hold the goal. It’s so big, it can hold the goal. And it’s it’s happened south. Right? So it’s got this, it’s got the goal. It’s going to get it and it’s going in the wrong direction. Why? Why would that be? And do you think that you’re ever going to get as far north as you want to go? If you’ve got a giant train pulling yourself? No. And it doesn’t feel in alignment? Everything feels off. Everything’s wonky. Nothing works, right? Why doesn’t everything anything happen? Why is this taking so long? Why did I screw this up? What does it feel like I self sabotage. It’s not even your fault. It’s just because your unconscious mind is really good at going south. And so when you’re in alignment, it’s actually because you your trains are lined up, and they’re headed in the right direction. Now, let me tell you why this matters. If I set a goal, and that goal is very specific, and I’ve done it all correctly with the SMART goal process, or however you do your goals, you write them down, you put it in on a post it note, it’s on your bathroom mirror and you know exactly what you want. But if your unconscious mind doesn’t understand it.

If you haven’t spoken in the way that your unconscious mind understands, then it’s not going to notice the things it needs to notice and bring into your conscious awareness. It’s not going to recognize the people that can make the connections for you and bring that into your conscious awareness. It’s not going to notice, like, Oh, easy away, and bring that into your conscious awareness. It’s not going to make it simple. Because it’s going in the other direction. And so what you’ve got to do and what I was saying at the very beginning, with a woman that I’ve been working with, did I say this, maybe I said it in my head. I’m working with a woman right now. And she said, for about a week after we work together, everything was in alignment. It felt so good. And then life happens, right as it does, and like things got off, off course. And she was like, Oh, it was so great for a week. And I’m like, yeah, it’s perfect. Like, that’s how it goes, you get better and better at holding the vibration. You’re where you what you’re noticing is that we’re starting to move those trains in the same direction. And so we’ve got to get both trains moving in the same direction, so that you are noticing things that you’re having the alignment, you’re running into people, have you ever had things happen. That’s like so magical. You know, when I told the story about this trip, I watched that Tiktok that night, that was of the the Northern Lights, and it was so beautiful, I cried, emotion, right, I get super emotional. I watched it over and over and over. I watched like 20 times repetition, right? I mean, I was visual, because I was looking at it. It was speaking, I spoke directly to my unconscious mind. Now, the very next day, I saw somebody posts that they were going to see the northern lights, and they had a spot open. Why did I notice? Why did that come into my conscious awareness? Now you might be thinking, Well, you were scrolling on Facebook, I see a lot of stuff on Facebook, and I just scroll past. Or, like, if you want to dive even deeper. And we could get into like the superconscious and how it connects with the collective consciousness. And perhaps I knew call in the collective. How, when she was going to post, I mean, we could go down that path to write that I that I had connected with her somehow. And that knew she was going to post and then I could see it. So there really isn’t. It is magic. It feels magic, right? I guess magic is what you make it but there isn’t there is a mind technology to it. There’s a reason why some people always hit their goals so easily. Right? There’s a reason why. And when you’re in alignment, it’s because both your conscious mind and your unconscious mind are two trains going in the same direction. And when everything’s going in the same direction, life feels easy, and life feels like flow. So I wanted to explain that, because I wanted to release you a little bit maybe have like, some guilt of where you’re like this isn’t working, why isn’t this working? Or even like, Why do I not feel good all the time. Something isn’t in alignment. And like, if you’re like what I want to feel good, maybe it’s not even about a goal, maybe it’s like I want to feel really good? Well, there’s something. And when we talk about our unconscious minds, you know, it’s our beliefs, our values, our identity. And if there’s something that doesn’t match what you consciously want, then you have the opportunity to change it. You can shift that you can email us if I’ve got coaching spots available. Absolutely, I’ll share those with you. But I have I train coaches, I know so many amazing coaches. And I know they’re amazing, because I’ve trained them. Hello fellow adventurers. Hi, everybody. Welcome to the show today. Thanks for being here. Thanks for coming in here new people. I will say I just I checked recently, this weekend, I got a couple messages that people left some new reviews on the show. And I just want to thank you so much for doing that. I think it’s helpful for new people to know if a show is like worth their time, when they can just go and see like reviews and recent reviews. So thank you, but also, you know, I’m here I’m in Iceland, I’m sitting in a bedroom, I actually borrowed one of the rooms of one of my housemates because it was way down on the other end of the Airbnb, and like back near the sauna, where it’s just quiet and where my room is, would just be way too loud, you’d have a whole bunch of background sounds. And so I was sitting here and I was like, I’m gonna record. And I guess people are listening, right? And I go to the reviews, see that there’s reviews. And I’m like, Thank you, thank you, thank you. Because sometimes it’s like, you know, I’m just talking into a microphone by myself. And so it’s really helpful for me to Well, everybody likes to be appreciated, right? So it’s nice to be appreciated. But it is helpful for me to like, imagine you and know that you’re listening and that you’ll probably hear this episode. So thank you, thank you so much for leaving a review. And just for being here with me today. So I am here in Iceland, and I was scrolling. I feel like I’m just like scrolling on Instagram. And I feel like the Instagram algorithm. I don’t know, I know, they changed things recently. But I feel like it’s getting better. It’s getting better. You’re seeing more like themes of things. I don’t know if that’s my imagination. I know with Tik Tok, it’s amazing, like it knows you, which has a level of creepiness to it too. But it just knows me. And it just shows me stuff I like I can see all like home decor stuff. And pets, farm animals, people that own monkeys, I add that it knows me and it gives me what I want, right, which I appreciate. And then I noticed on Instagram that I was getting things that were like more aligned and closer to the kinds of things that I would like. So I’m scrolling and I’m like noticing that. And then I noticed there was one of these, it was like one of those like quantum magic sites that’s run by like a mystery person, you know, so it’s not like an individual run an individual that you can see on Instagram, it’s just like a bunch of quotes and things to think about. And you know what I’m talking about. So I see one, and it’s about how the world is changing, and everybody is healing, that there’s this, this wave of healing, and you can be part of the wave of healing. And then the next post I got to was about healing and tsunami. So I’m gonna say that wrong. Did I just say that wrong tsunami? So you guys know what I mean? Like the healing like through your body, like with breath work and that kind of thing. I don’t know why I can’t. I feel like there’s so I’m hanging out with all these people from different countries, right. So I’m here in Iceland. I’m going to pause the story for one second. So I’m here in Iceland. I’m here with people from Italy, Germany, Hungary, Sweden, Portugal. So I feel like
I feel like I don’t know the word for something, which is so weird, because they’re all speaking English. But I am finding this. I don’t know what kind of phenomenon that is. Anyway. So I’m scrolling. I’m seeing all this stuff, all this stuff about healing, and how you should be healing and you should heal and time to heal. And all of a sudden, it occurred to me that maybe people don’t really know what that is. Right? Sometimes there’s things that I hear about all the time, and I’m like, what is it? And I wanted to talk today on the show about healing about my version of healing and the things that I do the things that I have found helpful. And to kick it off, I’ll say there’s loads of things that I don’t know about, right? There’s loads of ways that you can heal out there. So what is it when I talk about healing, I’m assuming it’s what other people are talking about too. But when I talk about healing, I’m talking about the things that are showing up in our lives that are holding us away from love. So the stories We have in our heads that are holding us away from love, the experiences that we are perceiving that are holding us back from love. The things that we’ve experienced in the past traumas, or any kind of disappointments or regrets, or anger, sadness, fear, hurt, guilt, any of those things that are holding us back from what it is that we really are, which is love. You know, I don’t know if you guys have ever done A Course in Miracles, I did an episode on it way, way back early on. And I can put it in the show notes. But it was like one of the first, I don’t know probably 50 or 60 episodes on A Course in Miracles. So sometimes you’ll see it like a see I am A Course in Miracles. And if you’re not familiar with that, of course in miracles was channeled back in the 70s, I think it was. And it’s basically like this really thick blue book, you may have seen it now that I’m talking about it. But it is channeled from Dr. Thetford and another woman, I forget her name off the top of my head. But they channeled the work. And by channeled I mean, they started getting messages, the woman that actually wrote it all out, you’ll notice their names are not on the course because they didn’t want to be associated. They just felt like it was coming through them. Anyway, they worked together there the environment that they worked at, it was like UCLA or something like that was not healthy. They had the woman started having this feeling she was getting like these downloads, and she started typing and Bill Thetford helped her put all this out on paper. And from what I understand the Course in Miracles, as it is has never been edited. So it’s it came out perfectly. And what it is it’s it’s several separate books, but there is a component of it a part of it that is 365 lessons. So there’s one for every single day, and you read one every day, and it’s almost like it, it teaches you and pulls you through so that it says almost like could you believe this little mustard seed, and the first day you can and so then the next day it expands on it. And then the next day expands on that. So that like the more you go. And the deeper you go, the more it starts to really shift the way that you think now, the goal of A Course in Miracles is to bring you closer to love.
I think a huge part of it is forgiveness. And it’s about releasing the things that are standing in the way of you getting to love, I believe and the course teaches that we are love. We are like a pure piece of source energy. But we’ve created all of these stories and these things that keep us from that. So my belief is that healing is removing those things that are keeping it from us. And those things show up for us in this physical reality like regret and fear, and hurt and guilt and sadness and all of those things. And so in whatever way that we want to process, then we can remove those things. And it brings us closer to love. You know, this is the work that Marianne Williamson teaches from A Course in Miracles, Gabby Bernstein teaches directly from A Course in Miracles. So I’ve also had Pam grout on the show. And she made a book, she wrote a book called The Course in Miracles experiment. And she simplifies it because the book is kind of heavy. You know, it’s like a lot to take in. I’ve done it for five years, I think this is I think this might be my fifth year or maybe it’s my sixth year going through it. But I have found it really helpful to read the course and then to read Pam’s version as well, because it gives me a little bit of a shift on things. So it I hear the way the court says it which is like a little complex, you know, and then I can read Pam’s version, which like makes it really fun and simple. And she relates it to some pop culture thing and you go, Oh, I get it, right. But the whole idea of it is to bring you closer to love. And so I believe that when we are thinking about healing, and we’re scrolling through and we’re saying like heal, heal, the world is healing, you better get on the healing train or whatever people are saying, I really think that that is if you would like to experience heaven on earth, then healing and getting closer to Heaven, which is pure love is the best way, the best course of action. And we can get there are a lot of different ways. So I want to talk about some of the different ways that I use healing to remove obstacles, keeping me from love now. What Does that look like in the physical world, right? It looks like I really want to be a leader in my field, but I have a lot of feelings of insecurity or I’m not confident enough, right. So if I can heal things, I can remove those. I’m using air quotes, those blocks, those things that are, that are skewing my vision, keeping me from knowing that I’m love. So I set it that way, in a really specific for a really specific reason. The fact that you are a piece of source energy and your love does not change, just because you don’t understand it, or don’t acknowledge it, or accept it, don’t accept it. Right? That doesn’t change. Right. So, you know, just because you don’t accept that you are fully whole, a full piece of source energy of full embodiment of love, and everything that that is, doesn’t mean it’s not true, I believe it is true. And one of the things I always say is I can see my clients as whole. And so helping them to navigate past go through heal the things that are standing in their way of seeing that is really the work that I do, and the work that I teach other people how to do. And I think that there are multiple layers to this. So I think there are two different sides, there’s the body side. And you know, I know there’s a really good book out, I have not read it, but I’ve heard a lot of people talk about it called the body keeps score. And really, it’s about like, when you experience trauma, your body is holding on to a lot of that trauma. So even if you’ve mentally done the work and gone to therapy and done all this stuff, if something happens, your body can still respond to it in a way that’s triggered, right. And so doing a lot of the work through your body can be really helpful. So one side is the body. The other side is our unconscious mind. And I believe that a lot of healing when we go to therapy and all of that. Like we’re consciously having a conversation. But the healing comes from making a shift, unconsciously releasing some emotions, right, letting them go by releasing, I don’t mean emoting. I mean like not having those negative emotions anymore. Also, I want to say negative emotions, I’m labeling it negative, I think, you know what I mean, but every emotion is neutral, right? So it’s just how we’re experiencing it. Okay, so we’ve got the body side, we’ve got the mind side, there’s two different things. And I do not know every single healing modality. So I’m not, this is not an all inclusive list, you may have amazing things that have worked for you. And that is awesome. And I think there’ll be more ways that we can heal and more things that come into our awareness and into the world, as people are creative, and they discover things that really work. So I know for me breath work has been really, really amazing. Doing breath work, I have done breath work, and I’m certified in breath work through a company called Revelation breathwork. And they have a really great membership. And I’m a member. And so you can take breathwork classes at any time, I like to do them on Sunday night. So I think it’s really helpful to have like a regular schedule where you do them once a week. But you can go and just take one class, so you can try it out. I find breathwork especially revelation breathwork to be so fun, because they use music that’s like, you know, just catchy and popular, right? So it’s not like instrumental or if they have a component where you can have a primal scream. So basically, you breathe and there’s a very specific way that you’re breathing. And after about, I don’t know, maybe 15 or 20 minutes, a song comes on, it’s like the always the perfect song that they have queued up that that gives you the space to actually I like to put a pillow over my face, and just scream into the pillow and when I’m done. It is such a release, it feels so good and my body’s exhausted and I just feel so much lighter than then there’s a few more of the deep breathing songs and then you just go back to your regular breath. And honestly, you wake up or you get up and you spend the next few days in like a little peace of bliss feels really great. So check them out. So I know that there are a lot of different ways that we can use our body, you know, I think yoga is a great way, stretching, right moving through things, I actually believe that any kind of exercise can really help us to process emotion, especially if we do the exercise. It actually, let me say it in this way, our empathy goes way up after we’ve exercised. And so I think that that empathy extends to ourselves. It’s not just empathy for others. And I think if we had a really great workout, and then we came in, and we meditated, or we took the time to release in some of the other ways I’m going to talk about but release some emotion, it can be just a really incredible experience, because you have a lot more empathy for yourself. So I don’t know if you if I’ve talked about that before. But empathy goes way up.
You know, it might be something that you try if you go for a really long walk, and then you come back in, and you just sit with yourself, and you just see what’s coming up. Because sometimes the things that come up, sometimes those things that come up are stories. And if you have a lot of empathy about for yourself, and you hear the story in a different way. And you say to yourself, like no, that’s not true, you know, you weren’t a freakin idiot. Like you were just being human. You know what I mean? So sometimes, just having that space where you have that empathy, and then revisiting something that’s coming up for you, but allow it to come up, don’t go digging, just sit, just sit, set a timer for five minutes, be like, I’m going to sit for five minutes and just see what comes up. And it might be somebody that you need to forgive, you know, it might be something about yourself, who knows what will come up, but just allow it and then see it from a lens of a whole lot more empathy, and allow it to bring you closer to who you are closer to love. So I also love and this is moving into like the mind stuff. Emotional Freedom Technique, which is tapping. I discovered this years ago and back in one of the early episodes. And I know I’m referencing a lot of episodes lately, but back in one of the early episodes, I had a guy on that talked about tapping. Now I had just discovered tapping now I actually train people to become EFT, certified as coaches to use it in their coaching practice. But tapping is really, I’ve been trained in EFT and TFT, which are very, very closely related. EFT is so simple. And the reason that I love it so much is because it’s so simple. It’s really tapping on meridian points on your face and your neck that are the natural self soothing points. So I don’t know if when you guys get scared when I get scared or something. Or if something awful happens. And I go, like, I don’t know if you could tell the just by the sound of my voice just then like how my my hand went up to like my collarbone. You know, I’m talking about. So like, oh my gosh, like that is a natural self soothing point. That’s why we do that. And so we can tap right there. And it actually calms us down. What it does is it tells my nervous system, hey, you’re thinking about that thing. That was really awful. And you had a reaction to it in your body. The let me just tell you that it’s okay. And I’m soothing you while you’re thinking about it. We can use this I use tapping for everything. I mean, just I try it with everything. So I use tapping with changing beliefs, limiting beliefs, right things that are holding me back to help me change my story. So if I have a story in my head about my life that’s not serving me I want to soothe myself through it, because there’s a reason why I have it. And the reason why I have the story is because of pain. Right? So the pain is there and if I can release that I can kind of soothe myself to say I can have a different story. So EFT is really great. Another one that I love is hypnosis. Obviously, I train people to become I’m a hypnotherapist, but I love it. I when I learned hypnosis, I created my own hypnotherapy tracks for myself, I would create new ones once a week that would work specifically on the things that I wanted to work on. It was magical and amazing and truly changed my life. Hypnosis is just simply meditation with a focus, all it is, is you get really, really super relaxed, and you’re focused on one specific thing giving you an outcome. So this can be really powerful when you’re trying to change a story. When you’re trying to uplevel when you’re trying to create something new. This is healing because you’re letting go of something that’s held you back, and it’s bringing you closer to a place of love. Right to a place of wholeness. I you know, I always say to people come through the alchemy Institute, if you want to do personal development, because you’ll learn how to make those and how to do that. I just think it’s so powerful. So many of my friends that I have met through my trainings, in NLP and hypnotherapy, we’re doing it just simply to learn for themselves. And I think the NLP tools, law chefs kiss, like if you could learn those for yourself and start to heal. Okay, so EFT, hypnosis.
I really love and I know I talked about this all the time, but I really really love NLP, I love using the way that we’re talk to ourselves. I love using communication, I love using visuals, to help me reshape what it is that I want. There are so many places where we hold things in our unconscious minds, where we hang on to things where we store things, and the just the storage space alone, I’m gonna explain what I mean, just the storage space alone being shifted completely changes your representation of the thing. And that changes how you experience it. So let me say that whole thing in a different way. Anytime I have anything that I can think about in my life, I typically am going to say unless you’re like us very tiny, tiny percentage might not. But 99.9% of people are going to have an image. So you’ve got an image of what that thing is, right. So think about anything, think about a doughnut, you have an image right of what that is a picture of a donut, you also have a place in your unconscious mind where you store it. And we can actually change where you store it in your unconscious mind. Just put it in a different place, I could put it over where like violins are stored. And that would change how I experienced the donut. Donut might be like, amazing, you might store it in a place that makes you feel like oh my god, that’s so amazing and warm, and I love the donut. The donut is love might bring you closer to love. If I move it over to violins, it might mean school. Like it might mean something like music class, like it might mean something totally different. And you won’t experience the doughnut in the same place in the same way. So this is so powerful and healing, because so many of the things that we’re experiencing as negative, or neutral, right, it’s all neutral, but it’s how we’re storing it. And with NLP, there are some really fast, amazing techniques to be able to restore and move things to a different place and experience them differently. And I think that once clients understand how to do this, and I do it with them, then they learn it and then they can do it themselves. I was talking to a client the other day actually someone in the institute that’s learning in the institute. And she was saying she woke up doing it in bed the other day. So she had identified something in her sleep because she’s thinking so much about this, identified it and just moved, it just became a natural reaction, which wouldn’t that be great if your natural reaction when things came up was to just heal them? Instead of instead of like, think about them for 30 minutes and then eat them and then drink them and then internet shop them? Do you see what I’m saying? The healing. I say it’s like healing on the fly. Like if you could be healing on the fly so powerful. The other thing that is super powerful. Maybe if I only had one thing in the whole world, it would be this. It’s something called time techniques. And it’s something that I teach inside the institute, that our unconscious mind stores all of our past memories, it remembers everything and knows everything, even if you don’t consciously remember, even if you aren’t aware that you could remember, you know you’re in a busy restaurant. There’s 36 other conversations going around on around you. And you’re actually recording those, any of them that you can hear you’re recording them and it also has a representation for your future, I know. So if you could imagine what do I think is going to happen? Like you have a goal, I promise that if you could really get in touch with yourself and like how you feel, if you have a goal in the future, there might be part of you that you just know, you’re not going to hit it. You don’t even know how you know, you just know. And that sucks. Because it might be something really great might be something that would improve the world. I know. Because if you improve you, you improve the world. So imagine, then, if you’ve got this thing that you know isn’t going to work, but you can’t figure out why but you keep trying. And then you feel like poof, because it doesn’t work. And you’re like I knew it wouldn’t work. The reason that you knew and your body knew and there was something in you that just knew. And vice versa, sometimes you just know it’s going to is because your unconscious mind has a path for the future. And it creates that path based on what’s happened in the past. And so we can rearrange, not delete, can’t delete stuff, but we can rearrange your representation of the things that we perceive as negative. And when we do that, it releases a whole bunch of hold. It’s almost like, you know, when you go to Ticketmaster and you put tickets in the, in your cart, and it holds them and it’s like holding for four minutes and 59 seconds, and it starts counting down. And you have to make a decision before the thing runs out. Well, it’s holding all of this space for that. So now if I don’t have those things in my cart, if I don’t have anger and fear and hurt and guilt in my cart, then those all that space is freed up for me to add a new ticket, the ticket that I choose in the perfect seat in the perfect location, at the perfect venue at the perfect price. And I can only do that if I’m clearing things out and implanting
what I want into the future and that word implanting can feel really unsteady for people sometime. It’s really, you helping your unconscious mind accepting that it’s safe for that to happen. That if that happens, that’s really good. And then nothing bad’s gonna happen. Remember, my unconscious mind just wants me to be alive. That’s it’s like mean derivative. That’s like the main thing it’s trying to do. So if I’m having some thing that, like maybe when I think about a goal, I get excited. But there’s also like this nerve thing that happens. Excitement, nervous, very similar. And so then there’s part of me that goes, Ah, do I want that? I’m not sure my unconscious brain will go no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, you don’t if you’re not sure, we don’t want it. No, because it thinks that’s unsteady. So if we can clear in time technics does this, we can actually clear it’s so powerful. And so cool, clear out the past implant, what we want in the future, changes everything, it changes your day to day experience, it changes the things that you that come into your awareness, it changes the people that you notice, that could give you what it is that you want. So really, really powerful. So when we hear about healing, and when you see that, I want you to just think about all of these tools, and these things, and you probably have a whole laundry list, maybe two that you have used. I know I’ve have a lot more than that. But those are the ones I love the most. Those are the ones I use, like almost on a daily basis. And those are the ones have impacted my life, and really changed my life. Changed my life. You know, eight years ago, I was had owned a gym that I hated. And I, I opened it because everybody said I should do it. And I thought I should I wasn’t listening into myself, I had so many things where I was trying to create worth by having accomplishment and just it wasn’t working for me. And when I got a new vision and I started to heal, and learn and change things and and moved through my journey where now I understand how I can use the word manipulate, but no manipulate energy, and what I’m focused on and actually direct my focus so that it’s not just going where it’s always been now. Now I’m sitting here in Iceland, with nine strangers I met on the internet for an adventure for a month. You know what I mean? Like everything can change because your fear goes away. Right your your need to do things in a certain way can shift and change. Your stories change. So doing This work can be so, so incredible. What we do, what we experience is all really neutral. The stories that we have about it are the things that give it meaning. She’s here to tell you, if your stories are not serving you, you get to just change them. It doesn’t have to make sense. It doesn’t have to be “right”.

Hello fellow adventurers, how are you? Welcome to today’s show. Welcome to the Art of Living big if you’re new here, welcome, welcome.

So I am here. I’m excited. I’m excited to talk to you guys today. First of all, I’m here in Iceland. I’m sure you’re sick of hearing me talk about it. If you’re watching on Instagram, every moment, I think I’m putting in my Instagram stories. But I have been here not quite a week. And the last couple days, there has been a severe storm warning. So it was interesting because I was like, thinking about all the different things that I want to talk to you guys about and all the different things that I want to share. And lots of times I’ll have like a running list, you know, in my phone, and one idea kept coming up and coming up. And you know, when I’m working with clients, I get ideas from that, because i i You know, I think so many of our, our challenges can be universal, you know. And so this one theme kept coming up, and it’s been coming up for me. And so anyway, I thought this is so interesting, because here I am in Iceland, this is what I’m about to tell you is what I wanted to talk about. And then I’m having this experience that like I feel like it like teed it up completely perfect. Okay, so here I am. I live in Atlanta, Georgia. If you’re new here, and you don’t know that I live in Atlanta, Georgia, but I grew up in Vermont. It’s cold and it’s snowy and I grew up right on the Canadian border. And we always had loads and loads of snow. But I laughed. Like, right after college. I mean, like, days after college, I didn’t even know where I was going. I got in my car and was like we’re going south. I think I thought I could drive to the Dominican or something. I think no, St. Thomas is where I thought I was gonna go like, but I’m gonna drive as far as I can. And then I only had enough money to get to like North Carolina. Anyway, that’s a story for another time. But I grew up in Vermont. And so now here I am in Iceland. I came to Iceland. It’s cold. It’s snowy. I mean, it’s it’s February, right. And the last two days they have had a, like a huge, huge storm come in. I know in Atlanta, like all up the East Coast like Florida, Atlanta all the way up through the East Coast has been this huge, huge rainstorm, right. So now I think this has turned to snow and hit Iceland anyway. hurricane force winds like everything is closed. I mean, for Iceland, like it’s one thing in Atlanta if everything closes, because there’s snow, but it’s Iceland and everything is closed. And so it kind of halted our travels, you know, like our adventures got a little delayed, we had to rearrange. And we did like some work days instead on the weekends so that then we could go off and have an adventure during the week during the time we would normally be working. So we’ve tried to be really flexible and rearrange. Well today, we were all sitting in the living room and a few people were doing some yoga on, like on YouTube that they had streamed to the TV. And the rest of us were all sitting around like on our computers and the wind was howling. I mean, like I’ve never heard I kept thinking like are the windows gonna break but it’s built for this right? So the wind is howling, the trees, the snow is whipping and swirling. And I look at this other guy that’s here on the trip with me. There’s nine of us. And I was like, I want to go out there. And he was like me too. Let’s do it. So we put all of our gear on and I mean, it reminded me so much of Vermont, you know, putting on my ski pants and my mittens and like a neck gator and my hat and my winter coat and my boots and like the whole thing. It just, I mean it took so long you couldn’t just spontaneously run out like I do in Atlanta. It was such a process you know? And I got out there and I mean we could barely read videotaped it we could barely walk. I mean I was falling down the wind gusts. I couldn’t look into the wind because the snow was like pelting your face. It just hurt so much. And I mean we were laughing I was hysterical laughing It just felt so funny and so fun to me. And I said out loud although Rubin that I was out there with couldn’t hear me. The wind was loud but I said, I grew up in Vermont, and I never go back because it’s too cold. It just struck me as so funny, because now here I am. But the story that I have is that I know all about Vermont, I’ve already been there. And I don’t know anything about Iceland. So it felt worth it to risk the cold, to have a totally different experience. So the story in my head is that if I go to Vermont, I’m going to have an experience I’ve already had. And that doesn’t feel worth it. Now, why am I even telling you this? Because who cares? The reason I’m telling you this is because it suddenly became this really obvious thing to me that neither of those things could be true. Like I have experience, I just explained to you how I booked my cold weather stuff on it reminded me of when I was young, which means that’s an experience that I’ve already had getting ready and having a belabor Summon, and having all these different layers and all this stuff, right. And I think that what we do, what we experience is all really neutral. But the stories that we have about it, are the things that give it meaning. And our brains are meaning making machines. That’s what our, our minds just want to make meaning out of everything. It’s constantly searching for meaning. And if we don’t have enough information, I’ll jump to this. But if we don’t have enough information, we make up the story that fills in the blanks. So I want you to think about the things that you think about your life, maybe there’s something that’s really hard right now, something that you’re going through, and you’re like, Betsy, this is legit, difficult, I have this situation, and I’m dealing with this thing.

And what I would say is to evaluate the stories around it. And I’m going to talk a little bit more about this and how to do this. But I want to say this again, in a different way. Everything and just be open. Like if you’re new here, like just be, like be open to like some other new idea. And this might not be a new idea. But if and if you’ve been here for a long time, then you know me relax enough to imagine that what I’m about to say is real is true. Okay? So the truth is, is that every single thing is neutral. Every single thing is neutral. Every good thing that you see every bad thing, every complex thing. Everything is neutral. Me coming on this trip neutral. Me sitting in this chair neutral. me having like thinking about experiences in my life that were hard, right? I’m using air quotes hard, neutral, every single thing is neutral. Now you might be jumping to like, what about really terrible things that have happened? Neutral. The thing that makes them good or bad or terrible, is the stories that we have around it. It’s it’s the the deep side of all of the beliefs that surround it that help you make up the story. It’s the values that you have that swirl around the beliefs that then help you build the story. So my story being here was that if I go to Vermont, I’m not going to have a new experience. But it’s worth it for me to travel a jillion kajillion miles and hours and hours on a plane in an expense and meeting a bunch of people I’ve never met before and then coming to this place in Iceland, because I thought it was gonna be new and I craved something new. But maybe that’s all neutral. Maybe me going to Vermont could be totally totally different. Now, who cares if I go to Iceland or go to Vermont? Like that isn’t what matters. But what I think matters is the stories that are stopping you. The stories that are holding you back the stories that are defining who you are. Well, I can’t have what I want, because I can’t have a really great relationship. Because I’ve been divorced. I’ll never find anybody because dating is so different now. Right? I can’t build a life that I really want because I don’t I never got the chance to go to college. Right? If my husband hadn’t taken off with the Secretary, then I would be able to have more confidence and then I would probably be in a different place. If I hadn’t gotten fired from that job, which was something I didn’t even do wrong, then I would be able to have a much better job now, and I’d be able to live where I want. Now, like, those are all made up scenarios, but maybe there’s something in there that you identified, there’s a reason why I have the life I have right now. And is because of this stuff that happened. It’s because of this story. Now stories can be really good to write. Like, I’m a super optimistic person. And so I always find the bright side, that could be a story that you have, and that can be great. There’s a lot of good stories. Now, here’s the trick. Here’s what I want you to be thinking about. As you think about the stories that you have for your life, and you have a million of them. Is, is the story that I have right now for my life serving me. So that’s the question. There’s an overarching story for your life? Is the overarching story for my life serving me. Have you been thinking about becoming a coach, but you’re not sure where to start? I’ll see you there. And then you can look at some of the things in your life right now that are hard. What’s the story that I have around this? This is why this is such important work. And you don’t have to sit down for three hours and meditate on it. I just want you to just pull out a piece of paper and make a list of the things right now. Right? What’s the overarching story for my life. And here’s how you can like if there was a song that defined your life, right? If you’re like that song is my life, right? Like if there’s a song, or a story that you’re like that i So identify with that right or a quote, this quote just sums me up. When we were in the van driving here yesterday, the first day, we all got together, we all met in like this random parking lot in Reykjavik. It’s overall so I got there first, unlike the taxi cab driver dropped me off. And I had told him the story. And he was like, Are you going to be okay? Like, I’m just leaving you in this parking lot. I said, as long as you’ve brought me to the right place. And then when no time at all, everybody started showing up. We all got in the van. And one of the things that they said were they Julia, one of the girls that’s helping coordinate everything she passed around her phone and said, Everybody put in a song that defines you. Like, what an interesting thought, right? What is the song that defines you and some people just put songs that they were really listening to right now. But immediately I knew what song it was, like immediately it Bryan Adams because of the artist defines my childhood and the his song shine a light, I think is how I think about my life, like immediately. So if I were to think about the overarching thing for my life, what’s the story? That’s the story, right? That grew up in a small town I shining my light

on a journey on a quest, right to find the things that make my light bright so that I can shine those all over everybody else and help them shine their light too. Right. So that was like my defining. That’s the story about my life. Now I have a lot of stories inside of my day to day life. So if you have a piece of paper and you’re writing, like, what’s the story for my life? What’s the overarching theme? What’s the quote? What’s the song? And then I want you to think about what are the individual stories that I have for my life for the things that aren’t working. And you can just make a line down a piece of paper and on one side, just write all the things that aren’t working. Like I don’t like this. I don’t like this. I don’t like this. It doesn’t have to be something big. It can be anything. Like I hate the way my bedrooms decorated right now. Like write it out. Because you have a story about it. You have a story about the good stuff too, but we’ll leave that alone because why put our energy there if it’s making us happy, right? So look at each each of those individual things and then just ask yourself what’s the story I have around On this and all you have to do is tell me why. You know, I don’t hate my bedroom, but I’m gonna use that as an example. You know, I might say like, I hate my, the way my bedroom is there’s been a time where I’ve hated my bedroom. I didn’t like the comforter, I felt like it was rearranged weird. You know, there’s a huge even now there’s a huge mark on the bed footboard from like, a dog that we were babysitting or something, like jumped on the bed and taken his big nail and like, put a dent in my furniture, right? bugs me doesn’t bug me too much, but bugged me a lot at the time because I had a story about it. Okay, so this is a good one. So my story about it. My story about it was that I didn’t want this dog at the house. This dog was so big. He wasn’t friendly. He was scaring little Miley. Why do I have to do all this? Why does everything get ruined? Why can’t I have good stuff? Because at the time, I have like a bunch of dogs and a kid. Right? And you know how that is like, everything does get ruined? So why can’t Why do other people? How come? There’s people I see on the internet that have beautiful bedrooms? How come? I don’t have stuff like good style. I can’t put together a good bedroom to save my life. Like I would literally need to have like a Garanimals for bedroom decor like I don’t not good with that. How come? I’m not good with that? How come I never learn that? So I have a whole story. Right? The story is, I never was taught that I don’t have a design i And that’s probably something you’re born with. And I don’t have it. And I don’t have the money to just pay somebody just come in every time I want to rearrange, right. So it’s a story I have. But none of that’s true. None of that is true. And I could go through each individual parts, each of the individual aspects of that story. And challenge it now mean understanding or believing whatever I believe about home decor probably isn’t of the utmost importance. But it can be a good lesson just to see how we’re making up these stories. And if the story isn’t serving you, I want to give you permission to just change it. You get to just change it. It doesn’t have to make an air quoting it doesn’t have to make sense. It doesn’t have to be like air quotes, right? It doesn’t have to, because you get to choose. One of the things that I wrote on the top of my calendar this year, I wrote it on top of January. And then I wrote it again on top of February because I believe that it was changing the way I’ve been thinking. And it says Remember, dot dot, dot, it’s all a dream.

It’s all a dream, you get to choose, you get to pick. Now why does it even matter what my stories are? Why does it matter? If I am? If I’m thinking it’s like awful things about my decor? i What does it matter? Well, it matters because that’s going to change my actions. And when my actions change, then I get a totally different result. So you’ve heard me talk before about the conscious to subconscious ladder. And if you haven’t, I will try to find the episode where I talk about that and put it in the show notes. Or you know what, I’ll talk about it next episode, because I think that’s a really important thing to revisit. But basically, we’re starting at the bottom of this ladder, and it’s your environment and your behavior are down there totally conscious things. And if I’m always spending my time there, I’m hustling all the time. But if I can change from an identity level, if I can change from like the highest levels of my unconscious, so behavior environment down at the bottom of the ladder, I go up the ladder, and I get into beliefs and values and identity at the very tippity top. Well, my stories are a direct reflection of that of my identity, my values, my beliefs, it’s unconscious, the stories that I have are unconscious, and you can bring them into your consciousness by understanding and knowing what they are. And once you know what they are and immediately starts to change, because once you see something, it’s different. That’s science, once you see something, it’s different, we could do writes down a note to myself to do an episode on that. I think that could be like there. I think when we can understand that, that whole that whole experience of I’m creating what I’m seeing in my environment, by the story that I have in my head without even trying without even trying. So if there’s something you’re trying to create in your physical reality, start getting really clear on what the stories are around it. You know, there are some aspects of our physical reality that we cannot change, there are some aspects of our physical reality that we are exposed to, or that come to us. And, and we also have an option of what the story is around it, you know, when my daughter was really sick, you know, I could I have changed it on a by Super changing my mindset, I don’t know, maybe if I was like meditating for hours and like, got really zoned into the quantum field, I don’t know. But in my life, which is like a real life, I have, I had a story around her illness about her being sick, and about what that meant and what that meant for me, I might not have been able to change like her illness, but I could change the way that I saw it. And I could make it easier on myself. If I saw it in a different way. If I saw it as like the worst thing that’s ever happened, and I did an episode with her a while back, I’ll put it in the show notes. But she came on the show back in like August of 2020 when she came on the show. And we talked about her deep, deep depression and anxiety. I kept it at her at a school for years. It was devastating and debilitating. And, and my story for a long time was that I would I’m a How come? I’m a victim of this, I only had one child. And now I don’t get to enjoy her. I don’t get to do the things that normal parents do. You know, everything is hard. Everything like that was my story for a long time. And honestly, it wasn’t serving me It certainly wasn’t helping her.

I had to step back and reevaluate my story. And sometimes we need a lot of help with this. You know, sometimes it’s not even obvious. Sometimes just someone who’s skilled in asking really good questions can help us see things that we never thought we would notice before. And then when we see it, we’re like, oh my gosh, no wonder, no wonder that’s my reality. No wonder that shows up. No wonder that’s the thing that’s continues to be in my life. No wonder no wonder, and when we can see it, then we have the opportunity to change it. So I want you to just be thinking, you know, over the next week, notice when things feel hard. Notice when you have a thought about things or a belief about things. Notice when you don’t like things. Notice when you’re scrolling and what your reaction is, anytime your body doesn’t feel good. Anytime you have a constriction, I want you to stop and ask yourself, What’s the story. Now, I’m adding a little disclaimer here at the end, because it doesn’t mean you don’t do anything in the physical reality, because you’ll end up doing it unconsciously. And you also can choose you can choose to put up boundaries, you can choose to do things different, you can choose to make a change. But when you understand the story, it gives you the power and the leverage, to be able to have a lot more ease, a lot more joy, a lot more happiness, and to be able to make those changes with a lot less stress. Imagine if the things right now that were the most constructing in your life, the things that were causing you the most pain, the most conflict, the place where all your energy is going, right, your mental energy, your physical energy, everything is going towards this thing, I can’t stop thinking about it. And I want you to just think and just imagine if you could shift that. So that the element, the physical element might still be there, but your energetic space around it has totally changed. And then you get to choose, you get to choose how you experience that thing. Everything the feels that we’ve labeled bad is neutral. And you can label it a different way. And bring your life to a totally different place. You have the power to do that. You’ve chosen the one that you’ve chosen now. So you can choose a different one if you’d like. Take your power back. Empower yourself and be fully at cause for how you’re experiencing things. And then you can start to really what I think is start to live big. I hope this gave you food for thought. Betsy talks about her beginning journey to Iceland and the lessons learned.

Hey everybody, welcome to the show. Welcome fellow adventurers. I’m excited for this show, I’m going to talk to you a little bit about my trip so far to Iceland. But here’s something I want to say before I forget. I think I told you like maybe a month ago, if you’re a regular listener, then you might have heard this, if you’re new here. Hi, and thank you and welcome. But if you’ve been here a while and you’ve heard me talk about how I hired a Podcast Producer. So last month, when I was at the beach, I hired a product Podcast Producer. And then we started working together this month, mid month, but she is ahead of the game. So typically, I record the podcast, and then you guys get the podcast, like a couple hours after I record it, which is how come every once in a while I’ll miss a show, or it’ll be late or it doesn’t come on time. It’s probably not like the most effective way to do things. It’s just how I’ve always done it. Because I’ve always been the one that’s like, produced it and done everything, which is also how come the audio is not that great. And you can hear me, you know, talking and swallowing or whatever, you know what I mean? I don’t want to say that because I don’t want to put that in your head. But you know what I’m saying the it needed to be professionally done. It was time, it was probably time a long time ago. But I tell you all this, because I’m going to give you an episode today, I really want to give you the updates here. And then you’re going to start getting updates, you’re going to start getting podcasts that might feel like I like a little off like what like like I might be talking about something that’s just from a little bit ago, if I reference something. Now, hopefully the things that I talked about are timeless. But I wanted to just let you know, that you might notice like some different stuff. I really hope you notice I hope you noticed like the audios way better. And I hope you notice all kinds of things. But anyway, enough about that. I am here I am in Iceland. So I want to tell you about this trip a little bit. And, you know, I typically want to do a show and like tell you about something that I’ve learned and things that are happening and there has been so much. And sometimes I feel like it’s a little indulgent to just tell you about my life. But I feel like even like the last 48 hours, there’s a lot to talk about. So let’s just dive right in. Okay, so if you’re new here, and this is the first time you’re listening to these episodes, a couple months, or a couple of weeks ago, I did an episode where I talked about how I saw a tick tock about the Northern Lights. And it was really beautiful. And I was mesmerized. And I immediately, like, I mean, I watched it like 20 times, then I immediately was like, I want that, like I just chose it immediately. I

just knew. And you know, that might sound a little funny, because you’re

because you might be thinking, I don’t know, you might not, but I’m gonna just mind read, you may be thinking like, well, that must be good to be able to choose that. But I have a job. And I can’t just choose that, like, how good for you. But I can’t do that. And I want to throw a wrench in that idea. Okay, but hang with me. So I just want to get this out for the new people. So I see this tick tock, it’s magical. And I’m obsessed. I like cry, I have emotion. And I say out loud, I want that the very next day, I’m in a Facebook group, I see somebody post about how they are putting together a small group and there’s one spot left, if somebody wants to go with them, to Iceland to see the northern lights. And it’s like this tour, it’s 20 Days Tour. And so I signed up. Now, I have done a couple episodes on this, you can go back and listen. It was a moment of choosing it. And knowing that it would just figure itself out, you know, like, how do I figure this out? Because I think a lot of times we have something that comes into our awareness that we want. But our immediate reaction is all the reasons why it wouldn’t work. Right? All the reasons why that’s not a good idea. Now’s not the time. I probably don’t have the money for that I can’t get off work. It’s too complicated. I have other things going on. And you know, sometimes it’s not a good time. But sometimes we say that and that’s not the reason. It’s not the reason the reason is fear. Right? The reasons fear I posted on Facebook. So anyway, wait, let me go back. Let me just stay true to the story. So see the TIC tock, this woman posts I sign up, okay, so it’s like, I don’t know, two and a half weeks later or something three weeks later. I’m on a plane to heading to Iceland. So now I’m here. So I want to talk about this and kind of like the last 48 hours. But I also want to talk about fear a little bit. You know, I posted on Instagram, if you follow me over there, it’s at Betsy pake. And I had a girlfriend that I was talking to not about Iceland about other things. And I messaged her, and I was like, I don’t know, I really want to do these things. But do you have a vibe on that? Like, what’s your thought? And she came back and she said, Betsy, take the fear out of it. Like, I can’t make the decision for you, which is what I wanted, right? Do you ever do that? Or you’re like, just tell me what to do? I don’t know. So just tell me. But I knew what I wanted her to tell me. Right? I knew that. The answer I wanted her to give me but what she gave me was even better. And what she said is take the fear out of it. And now what do you do? And I, I mean, I thought I, I thought about that for a long time. And I realized, so many of my decisions are driven by fear, and not like, not just imprinted, not just like fear has a little bit of an impact here, or fear makes me healthy, in a healthy way, evaluate all the options and know I mean, fear has been driving a lot of things in my life. If you have been here for a while, then you already know this. But 2021 was like really one of the worst years for me, but just started off just bad. And it just went bad. It just was bad to me. I’m still navigating, pulling out the lessons from last year. I know that when I get to a point where I can see all the lessons that I will have it all healed. But it’s a work in progress. And last year was so bad, it was so bad. And you know from death and loss of friends and my dog and my dog. I mean, my in laws were an awful accident, like things didn’t go the way I wanted, like, everything went sideways, I get separated from my husband, like so many things. I mean, it was like, just really bad. And maybe you have had yours like that. You know, maybe you’ve had times like that, too. And I feel really strongly and it’s one of the guideposts of my life is that there’s always room for expansion. Like there’s always room to get these lessons. And there’s always room to choose something different. And I I really don’t just preach this. And I think the people that work with me know this, but I believe in being at cause, which means I’m not at effect of all the things that happen. And yeah, all that stuff happened last year, my dog, I, which might seem very silly to you if you don’t have a dog, but if you’ve had a dog for a long, long, long time, then you will understand, but

I choose to be at cause which means I asked myself when something happens, how do I want to respond? Who do I want to be in this? What’s my identity in how I heal this and handle this and move forward with this now a part of my life, right? It’s not like something happens. And then we like go, oh, well, now I’ve pushed it aside, or I’ve gotten over it, or I’ve taken care of it. Or I’ve moved around it what when I talk to clients, lots of times, they’ll say I did a lot of work around that. I don’t want anybody going around anything, like I want to go through it, like we’re gonna go we’re gonna dive in and go through it. And so I feel like I am a person who really strives to be at cause. And if something doesn’t go the way that I wanted it to. I want to take responsibility for it. And sometimes that can feel really hard. But we can take responsibility. Sometimes the things that happen to us, we can’t control but we can control how we respond to it. Right, we can control how we see things we can control the lessons we derive from it. So anyway, last year really sucked balls. And so this year, I was like, I’m taking 2022 by the tail, right? So I spent the month in January at the beach and then got this idea to come to Iceland and so now I’m here. So I want to tell you about my trip. And I want to invite you to just join me on Instagram because I’m posting like every damn thing like you might get sick of it. But I’m saving it all in the little circle you know under your bio, how you can save the stories so like if you You don’t see it and then you want to, but it will probably be a lot of you just like clicking past because some of the stuff may not be all that important to you, but, but it was to me, so I wanted to document it. So. So I want to tell you a little bit about my trip. Because it has been really, really interesting. There’s already been so many things. And a couple things that happened, I really want to tell you, but I can’t tell you until more time has passed. But I will tell you. So I have met some amazing people and had some experiences already that were a little surprising. I came through so I left, like I left to go to the airport, like two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday. And Iceland is five hours ahead. So I’m like Thursday night. So like I’m already late posting this. This is why I got cast producer. So this doesn’t happen anymore. But I left and went to the airport. And my flight left that evening. And how I had done it was I had used Delta miles. So I used my delta miles to get to London. It was actually way, way, way, way, way less miles to get to London than it was to get to New York City. So time of the year, I think. So it was cheap for me to get to London, like cheap, cheap. The miles were like nothing. And it was so inexpensive miles, it would be like worth going for a weekend. Do you know what I mean? So I don’t know if it was a glitch in the system, or what it was, but I got myself to London. And I took the red eye. And so I left Tuesday afternoon, and then took the red eye. And I got there on really it was like three o’clock in the morning for me. But it was 730 in the morning in London, six hours ahead. So 237 30. So I Is that right? The math might not be right on that. But you get the idea. So it’s morning. I get there. I know I have to get my luggage, because I have to take a flight to Iceland, but I didn’t book The flights all together. Do you know what I’m saying? Because I use my points. So I had to get my luggage go through customs GET TO US Air, which honestly Heathrow Airport is the easiest airport I’ve ever been through. I don’t going through customs was a breeze. I mean, it was so simple. I got to the US Air desk, 45 minutes before it was even open. And then got ahead of five over five hour layover. And then I got my flight on us or on Icelandic air and came to Iceland. And then when I got to Iceland, I I was starting to notice by this point, that there are some things about me that may be making my life more challenging. So when I was on Iceland air when I was getting in line, there was a line of

high schoolers 60 of them. And they were all taking that same flight. They were going to Iceland on a geography trip from England, a lot of people from England come here. I’ve met a couple Americans but like a lot of people from England. And so I was in line with them. And that means like, it was fine. Like it was in line with them. I noticed to them, obviously, like they’re all around me. But when I got on my seat, they put my seat like right in the middle of 60 high schoolers. And when I got to my seat, there was a kid in it. And he said, I’m not your I sit in that seat over there you go over there. I’m sitting here. And I really didn’t want to because I picked my seats specifically because I wanted to see out the window. And when he said that, I just did it. Which was weird. It was like a kid. And I was like oh, okay, like I what, these are the stories that are happening in my head, which does not mean this is true. Okay. But this is the story in my head. The story is that I’ll never come to Iceland again. And he’s young and he’s going to get to go a ton of times and I want to see out the window. And now I can’t see out the window because he’s like a bully me into the middle seat in unlike a totally different row like way out in the middle of nowhere because there’s like two seats. recedes two seats, you know what I mean? across. So I’m like, what I sat down ago when I did it like, which makes me think about like hypnotic language about, like, when somebody just directs you, you just do it. Like, that’s a thing, right? So I was like, Oh my gosh. So there I am sitting now I’m like sitting in the middle seat in the middle of 60. Like teenagers. I mean, I know, you can just imagine, right? And so I’m, like, angry. And I have zero patience. This has a theme for me the whole trip, I’ve got to get patients, right. So I’m, so I’m sitting there, the kids are nuts. They’re like throwing stuff, right? Like throwing candy bars at each other. Like, there’s one particular candy bar for some reason, that gets thrown a lot the entire trip. And I am just like, um, I don’t know, I am irritated. And I have no patience. But I have to be at cause, right. And that’s really how I see the world. So I start like this internal dialogue like this, like, like, Well, now you’ve sat down, it doesn’t mean you can’t change your mind, you can just get up, you can just ask for what you need and ask for what you want. And like, it’s okay, there’s no rule that says just because he told you to go sit there. And then you did that you have to stay like that’s your seat. And I just was like, universe helped me see this in a different way. If I’m going to sit here for the whole time, then I need to see this in a different way. And it’s interesting, because I feel like that phrase, like, show me the lesson, I said that like five kajillion times. I want to pause and say that if you looked at my trip, it was really easy. There was really no big struggle, I didn’t miss a flight. Nothing was screwed up, even with all the different COVID rules with different countries and changing luggage and nothing was a challenge. Nothing. It was just everyday stuff that could have happened anywhere. But it was magnified. ie it allowed me to see it. I didn’t overlook it. Because everything else was uncomfortable. Everything else was new. You know, I was in London, I went to the bathroom. The bathroom was different, like the toilet was different the way you closed the door with different the way you flushed, the toilet was different. And so I had my I had to be like, I had to be conscious. I had to be thinking and aware. And that was the difference. And this is why I think travel can be so important. Especially I think, you know, it’s been a long time since I’ve traveled to a different country. I went to the Dominican but I mean, I think that was like 2017. I mean, I think it was a long time ago. So I am sitting there in the middle seat. And I’m thinking like,

how do I see this differently? What do I do and the candy bars were flying the the flight attendants, I think had just lost their minds. And so they came over and they were like, what seat Are you in? Show me your ticket like to the kids. And then it became obvious everybody was in a different seat. And she may said, Everybody go back to your seats. And so I left and went to my seat and the seats I were in was a totally different group of kids and different group of people like they had had everybody moves. So if I got my seat back, I got my original seat back. But if I still was uncomfortable, right, because there was still a ton of kids around me they were still throwing the candy bar like that all they were kids, right? They were teenagers, whatever. They were having a good time and they were excited. But it made me notice. And I share this with you because there are things going on in your life. And the reason that you notice the uncomfortableness the reason you notice, oh my god, I’m having this issue is a gift. It’s an opportunity for you to heal whatever that is. And I tend to make a note in my notes app on the phone, which now is like completely chocked full of crap I got to heal. But I was like this is so like, there’s so much stuff like it became so obvious to me that I’m super impatient. And I say this I hope you still love me and if you’re new here, I have a lot to offer to the world other than it’s really bad traits. But I’m super impatient. Like I like things to go the way I expect them to Go. So huge lesson and this whole next month of me traveling is going to be amazing to help me expand that and shift that so that I can have more experiences that are impactful. Because when you are irritated all the time, or when things don’t go the way you want, and you don’t have patience for it, you’re missing out on like magic, right? You really are and, and I must have been missing out on things in my regular everyday life. But I couldn’t recognize it because I was in the same place that was easy and comfortable for me to stay. So now I’m in the middle of the candy bar throwing chaos, and I’m in the seat that I wanted. But I’m still like, irritated because of all the people around me. So I was like, There’s patience. Right? There’s patience, this flight is going to end. And there’s just like this adaptation of like being open to people being around me that aren’t exactly like me of people that don’t think exactly like me. And you know, we’ve had a lot of things in our country in our world, where it has really divided us. And I think in a lot of ways, we are so drawn towards the people that think like us in so many ways that perhaps I am not being exposed enough to things that make me a little bit uncomfortable, uncomfortable enough that I would explore. Right? So here’s what I mean by that. So hang with me. So let’s say I don’t know something easy. Let’s say you hate red roses. Okay, and so I’m like, I love red roses. And so you don’t like red roses. And I’m like, I mean, I don’t dislike you, but I like to talk about red roses, and you don’t really like it. So I just, you know, I’m just gonna do my thing with the people like red roses. Have you like pink carnations, like, hang out with a pink carnation people like it’s cool. But you pink carnation person have a whole bunch of other interests and other things about you that have nothing to do with pink carnations. And I’m missing those. Because I’m hanging out with a red rose people like 1,000% of the time, right? So there I am in the middle of all this. So there’s this kid sitting next to me as his 16 year old boy that I have a lot in common with, right. I’m

like, I have nothing in common with you. I didn’t even have a boy, my kids a girl. So I just start asking him about his life. And it was so fascinating to me, you know, he was from Bath, England. And he was a really nice kid, like really polite and nice. And he had a lot of thoughtful things. And he was really excited about his trip. And he wanted to learn and he wanted to expand and all of a sudden, I was like, I have so much in common with this kid. Like until he throws the candy bar, I kind of lose him. But other than that, like, there’s I want to grow and I want to expand and I’m excited about my trip. I don’t know, it was just like a really good lesson. And I wanted to share that. Because sometimes in the chaos of life, we can get really in a routine. And I think sometimes that routine allows us to stay really in our comfort zone. But uncomfortable can happen not just when we’re like flying across the country, like we can create, like pockets of exposure to uncomfortable by just getting curious about somebody that thinks a lot different than you do by just asking questions and seeing what comes up and how are you actually really common. And so that was just a really, really good lesson. And I got to Iceland, and you know, they still drove me all bananas. Cut like the passport, they I mean, I was like oh my god, if I never see another teenager in my life, I won’t be unhappy. Like it’ll be fine. But I just let that sit, you know, I just let that like sit with myself that like this is an experience that I’m having. And my reaction to it is just about me. It’s just about me, it’s got nothing to do with them. It’s got nothing to do with what they’re doing. It’s got nothing to do with any of that and when I could be at cause my reaction is just about me. Then it just became much more settling. It just became easier. anyway and then I got to the hotel. I’m staying at a hill in here and Reykjavik until tomorrow and I’m staying at one that’s I mean, it’s just really beautiful. And a whole whole side of the hotel is like facing the ocean with this amazing like mountain glacier. I mean it’s unreal. Like you know when you see the pictures, I’ve posted some pictures on Instagram but I’m not doing it any amount of justice at all. The other side of the hotel faces like a shopping center. So I checked in, and I’m, like, come off this experience. It’s been like, what, like 30 hours. I haven’t slept. I haven’t really eaten anything like of substance, you know what I mean? I’ve been sitting in a seat this whole time. Like, I’m like, I just am, like, I just want to, like, eat some food and like, go to bed. And the guy low is looking it up. And he’s like, Okay, well, you have a single room, which here it’s a single bed. It’s a twin bed, you know, facing the like, South parking lot or when money goes, but I can upgrade you to a queen suite on the ninth floor overlooking up. I was like, Amen. Yes, yes. Yes. Thank you. And let me tell you that so I came up to my rooms in the ninth floor, top floor, amazing, unbelievably view, unbelievable view. With all of that I get this like, magical happy hour, and like, yummy hors d’oeuvres every night. Like, I mean, the, the views great, I get a queen size bed, like it’s like really good. And I get up here and I opened up the world, if you watched on Instagram, I had a lot of trouble figuring out how to turn on the lights. I mean, I just was like, there’s so much growth for me in this world. But I finally got the lights on. But my view is unbelievable. And it was kind of dark when I came in last night. And then today, I left for the day. And when I came home this afternoon, I could see the view. And when I tell you that I said thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You know, my friend Trish from Episode 208. She always says thank your guides. And I just said thank you they I mean, I think I cried I’m almost crying saying like, Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for upgrading me. Like I know that that sounds really stupid. You’re like, well, like, really? Betsy, are you like so favored? You got upgraded. I don’t think it has anything to do with favor. I think it has to do with, like, just being in the alignment of being like really, really full of gratitude and trying to learn and trying to expand and I think the universe was giving me like this, like, really cool experience. You know, I have like this unbelievable view. Unbelievable, unbelievable view. I cannot stop looking at it. Like, I mean, I sat there for at least an hour today and just stared at it. Like it’s the sun was setting I took those were the good photos if you’re on my Instagram, but the sun was setting and I could see like Lifetime’s of change, you know, as the sun like moved across the mountains. And it was just beautiful. And I was like,

Oh my God, thank you. Like, so grateful for this experience. I’m grateful for that, like moment. I’m like that moment where I was like, I’m just gonna do it. Like I would have missed out on this freaking amazingness if I had paused if I had said, Well, maybe fear fear. Come on up. Tell me the reasons why. And everything isn’t perfect. I got stuck in a freakin classroom full of full of teenagers throwing chocolate bars. But that was that was life was in session. Right? There was things for me to learn. And there will be a lot more on this trip and the rest of my life. When things are hard life is in session. And when they’re easy, you celebrate and you think, right. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you like Thank you. Thank you. And I believe I really believe this that the more we learn in those lessons, the more times we will have to celebrate, maybe because we notice, maybe because like the contrast is there. I don’t know. But I believe that and I believe that’s showing up. So today this morning, I got up and I went to the Blue Lagoon. It was magical because my alarm went off at 7am here, which is like, what’s the math? It’s 2am at home. And so I feel like it already made that transition because I stayed up. So what you may have seen as something really negative Oh, having to be awake all that time actually really worked in my favor, I think. And so this morning, I took like a shuttle bus, which was such a great experience. I mean, when I tell you my notes app is full of lessons like it’s snowy here. When I say it’s snowy, like this snow beat. First of all, I grew up in Vermont, so I know snow. Okay, this is snow. And I feel like when they plow the like if you live in another city in like the United States, let’s say like they plow and like one street would get like two swipes on each side. Do you know what I’m saying? It’s one swipe of the snowplow, so there’s only enough room for you to like get through. And our driver was I don’t know, he must have gone to like a special, like, training for stealing your nerves because he just didn’t care. He was just driving so close to the snowbank I thought for sure we were going to get stuck. I did see one bus, a bus, you know, like, you know, those like tour buses, but it had like comically large wheels on it. And it was just riding with one set of wheels on the snowbank. So it was turned where I thought, I mean, 1000 times, I thought it was going to just tip over. But it didn’t, I don’t know, magical wheels. And so all of that was just really interesting to like, experience, I get to the Blue Lagoon. I feel delayed. There’s so many people, I’m in this huge crowd again, all of a sudden, I mean, I even thought life is in session, ha, I don’t even want it to be in session, I just want to go to the Blue Lagoon. But life was in session. And I gotta tell you, like, I patience was a really big thing. And like giving space for this whole experience to not be I’m almost embarrassed to say this, but I’m gonna say it. And I just hope that you give me some grace. But it wasn’t about me, like everybody else had paid take that bus to everybody else is going to blue. And like, it wasn’t just about me, all those kids on the bus, or on the plane, they were all going to Iceland too. It wasn’t just about me. And that theme is showing up so much for me that I know that must be a really big deal in my life. You know? And so I just, I let the lesson come, you know, and I tried to understand more deeply about what I really need to learn there. Because honestly, I’m done learning lesson like, Can

we move on. So like, let me learn it. There’s more thinking to go on that. But I made a ton of notes about it for myself. And then I went and had the best day that the Blue Lagoon, I met another woman who was traveling all by herself. We were going to go to dinner tonight. But then we were both so pooped at the end of the day. But she was super cool. And it was so fun. I met another little group of ladies that had come all by themselves, like their little group came together, you know, it was like three of them. And three or four of them, three of them, I think and like connected with them. And like it was just so so fun. And yeah, like I just felt really good. I came home and cheered and thanked my guides and said, Thank you, thank you, thank you really, really a magical day, not a lot of life in session during the day. They’re like, can we just have fun, I don’t want any more lessons. It was good. And so um, I have more to share about some other things that happened towards the end of the evening. But I will get to that at another time. I want to figure out the right time to do that. Because there’s a really big lesson in here. So hang with me. But it’s just been a really, really, really magical trip. I will say, you know, I’ve been here 24 hours, I leave tomorrow to go meet my whole group. If you’ve ever thought I really want to go to Iceland, like, I’m not like go like just book it. look something up and just book it. Even if you don’t dare to book it, look it up. Because that’s getting you closer. The more you look it up, the more your nervous system will be desensitized to it. And then maybe you’ll just book one day, but I’m not kidding you. Like, I’ve I haven’t been a ton of places I’m not super well traveled. I feel like every time I want to go somewhere, I go to the Caribbean. I’ve been to Norway. I’ve been to Finland, and I’ve been to Sweden. So the Nordic countries, apparently I’m drawn to but then I’ve been, you know, all over the Caribbean and all of those things. But I clearly need to do more international travel because there’s a lot for me to learn and a lot for me to be exposed to. I have a friend that lives in Finland and he WhatsApp to me and was like you’re at Blue Lagoon. Just take your flight right to Finland and stay for a few days. And I thought oh, I’m gonna do that. Let me look it up. And it was insanely expensive. Like I mean, like way more than my entire trip here for a month. So it just wasn’t worth it to do that for a couple days. But I will do that at another time and make that happen. So I want you to be thinking, I want you to be thinking when something’s hard, like life is in session. I don’t know something about that makes it seem lighter to me and not quite so well. But life isn’t session that means there’s things for me to learn. It doesn’t mean life is bad. It doesn’t mean like that things are hard or life is hard. It just means there’s lessons in it for you. And then when things are really good, I want you to really, really celebrate, you know, that’s something I’m really trying to do is just celebrate, celebrate, celebrate. And I want you to think about what is it that I really want to do? And where is fear and all of that? Like is have I if I invited fear to come snuggle up real close in the in the middle seat? You know? Do we still have metal seats? Do you know what I’m talking about? When I was growing up? And there would be like, it was like a bench, you know, and we, everybody would have to like, pull the little lever and have momentum to like, like, move the bench forward, you know what I’m talking about? That’s like, a must be like an anchor memory for me. So I Where is fear? Like? Is it right there in the middle seat, like all cuddled up? Or can you move it over? Can you just move it over? Can you move it to the back seat? You know, as Elizabeth Gilbert would say, can you invite it in? Say, I know you’re gonna be part of this, but you’re not allowed to touch the radio, you can’t give directions, like you’re not really involved here. Where is it with you? And if you had to just answer like, with the very, like, first thing that comes to mind, what would it be, you know where it is, you know, if it’s way too close, where you can’t expand or experience the things that you want to experience. And so I’ll leave you that. Also leave you with the idea

that maybe you do get an awareness, maybe you have had awareness forever, maybe you already have like a huge long list in your notes app, about all the things that you need to heal, or things that bother you, or things that you know, are left like undone in your mind.
