  • IFBB Pro Kristy: The Reality of Women’s Bodybuilding in Australia | Female Athlete Series Ep. 1

    Send us Fan Mail

In the inaugural episode of The Female Athlete Series, Sarah Parker converses with Australian IFBB Pro Kristy, delving into the realities of pursuing professional bodybuilding as a woman in Australia.

Kristy shares her journey, starting from a childhood filled with dance and sports competitions, leading to her discovery of buildiing muscle as a female athlete. Her dedication culminated in her success as a bodybuilding competitor, ultimately earning her IFBB Pro card in Europe.

The discussion also highlights the challenges faced by female bodybuilders in Australia, including:

    • Limited opportunities to compete
    • A scarcity of women’s physique pro cards
    • The significant financial and logistical demands of traveling abroad for competitions

However, this episode reaches beyond the realm of competition. Kristy candidly discusses the support she has received throughout her journey from her husband and three sons, and how bodybuilding has influenced her parenting, business acumen, discipline, and ability to cope with pressure.

Now a gym owner on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Kristy also discusses her future plans, the importance of collaboration within the women’s physique community, and why success in bodybuilding is about so much more than what happens on stage.

A candid conversation about ambition, sacrifice, resilience, family and what it really takes to pursue a professional bodybuilding career when opportunities are few and far between.

  • The All-or-Nothing Trap | Binge-Restrict Cycles in Bodybuilding

    Send us Fan Mail

In bodybuilding, the ability to lose weight and get lean is often seen as a strength. But what happens when that ability creates a mindset where overeating never feels like a real problem because you believe you can simply diet it off afterwards?

In this episode, we explore the relationship between dieting, binge-restrict cycles and the all-or-nothing mentality that can develop when food, physique and scale weight become too closely connected.

We discuss why alternating between strict restriction and periods of overeating can leave you feeling stuck, frustrated and constantly starting over, even when you know exactly how to follow a diet.

We also look at how coaches and athletes can build a more sustainable lifestyle around training, nutrition, daily activity and long-term progress.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • How being highly effective at dieting can contribute to a binge-restrict cycle.
    • The mindset of believing you can always “diet off” the consequences of overeating.
    • Why treating food as a reward can create an unhealthy relationship with eating.
    • The problems with extreme restriction followed by periods of unrestricted eating.
    • Why mandatory weekly free meals aren't necessarily appropriate for every athlete.
    • How to introduce more food variety and improve the quality of your diet without relying on extreme calorie spikes.
    • Navigating social pressure from family, friends and colleagues around food.
    • Building sustainable structural pillars around steps, training and nutrition.
    • How coaches can combine objective data with feedback on stress, sleep, mood and overall well-being.
    • Finding your individual minimum effective dose when life gets busy.
    • Why honest communication between coach and client is essential for long-term success.

Bodybuilding requires discipline, but constantly swinging between restriction and overeating can make progress harder and leave you feeling as though you're always trying to regain control.

The answer isn't necessarily a stricter diet or more rules. It's understanding your own behaviours, identifying what's holding you back and building an approach to nutrition and training that supports both your goals and your quality of life.

Because long-term progress isn't just about knowing how to diet.

It's about learning how to live without constantly needing to start again.

  • Peptides, Performance and the Psychology of 'More' | Bodybuilding Uncovered Ep. 21

    Send us Fan Mail

Austin joins Sarah for a deep dive into peptides and their growing role in bodybuilding, recovery, body composition and metabolic health - while also exploring the psychology that can drive people to use them in the first place.

We discuss the potential benefits and limitations of compounds including GLP-1 agonists, MOTS-C, SS-31, BPC-157 and TB-500, looking at where they may have genuine utility, where the evidence is still developing, and where their use can become counterproductive.

A major theme throughout the conversation is “addition by subtraction.” In an environment where athletes are constantly searching for the next 1% - and where FOMO can encourage increasingly complex protocols - sometimes the answer isn't adding another compound, but stepping back and identifying the root problem.

We explore how GLP-1s may influence appetite and the brain's reward system, the different proposed roles of mitochondrial peptides in performance and recovery, and why using multiple pathways at lower doses is sometimes viewed as an alternative to simply escalating individual compounds.

We also get into the less-discussed side of peptide use: psychological reliance, addictive or “seeking” behaviours, eating-disorder tendencies, social-media FOMO, financial cost, and the possibility of using compounds to mask deeper issues rather than address them.

Ultimately, the conversation comes back to a simple principle:

PEPTIDES SHOULD BE TOOLS - NOT THE SOLUTION TO EVERYTHING.

The goal isn't to chase more compounds. It's to understand the problem, use the right tools when appropriate, and recognise when doing less may actually be the most productive move.

  • Strong Enough to Leave | When Bodybuilding Prep Meets Divorce & Emotional Abuse

    Send us Fan Mail

What happens when the pursuit of physical perfection collides with the hardest chapter of your life?

In this powerful conversation, Sarah Parker opens up about navigating divorce, emotional abuse and the intense psychological demands of bodybuilding competition prep - all while preparing to step on stage.

Sarah explores the tunnel vision of competition prep, how living in an extreme physical and emotional deficit can change the way we think and make decisions, and why the emotional consequences of a major life crisis don't always arrive until the goal is over.

She shares the reality of leaving an 11-year relationship, the darkness of the months that followed, learning to accept support, reclaiming her identity and discovering what genuine self-worth and healthy love can look like.

This is a conversation about bodybuilding, but it's really about something much bigger: knowing when survival is no longer enough, finding the courage to choose yourself, and learning how to rebuild when the thing that once kept you going is no longer there.

If you're an athlete, someone recovering from a difficult relationship, or simply navigating a major transition in life, Sarah's story offers a raw reminder that strength isn't just about what you can endure - it's also about knowing when to ask for help.

  • The Dark Side of Bodybuilding: Mental Health, Coaching, Judging & Exploitation | Bodybuilding Uncovered Ep. 20

    Send us Fan Mail

What happens when the reality of professional bodybuilding doesn't match the image we see on social media?

In this powerful episode of The Beyond Condition Podcast, Sarah Parker is joined by Roy and Quentin for a brutally honest conversation about the realities of professional bodybuilding - from judging and pro cards to sponsorships, coaching, mental health, athlete education and the immense physical and psychological demands of competition prep.

The conversation challenges the "Disney-fied" version of bodybuilding often presented online, where extreme preparation can look glamorous while the sleep deprivation, food restriction, pressure and emotional toll remain hidden behind the scenes.

Sarah, Roy and Quentin discuss why athletes need better education and mentorship, why bodybuilding should be recognised as an art form as well as a competition, and why the industry needs to do more to support athletes both physically and psychologically.

They explore concerns around vague judging feedback, the growth of divisions, the number of shows and pro cards within the US market, and what happens when athletes are given opportunities without necessarily receiving the education and mentorship needed to navigate a professional career.

The conversation also examines the darker side of sponsorship culture, including the pressure placed on athletes to promote products without meaningful financial support, as well as inappropriate and potentially abusive coaching practices.

Mental health is a major focus throughout the episode. Roy discusses the danger of making bodybuilding your entire identity, while Quentin shares personal experiences of PTSD, severe dietary restriction and the psychological impact of extreme competition preparation.

The discussion also explores posing as an art form - looking beyond mandatory poses to consider choreography, rhythm, tempo, creativity and entertainment - and asks whether bodybuilding needs to evolve if it wants to connect with a wider audience.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • The reality behind professional bodybuilding
    • Mental health and athlete wellbeing
    • The hidden psychological cost of competition prep
    • Social media and the "Disney" version of bodybuilding
    • Sleep deprivation, food restriction and peak week
    • Athlete identity and self-worth
    • The importance of education and mentorship
    • Judging, divisions and athlete feedback
    • Pro cards and the professional bodybuilding landscape
    • Sponsorship culture and athlete exploitation
    • Coaching boundaries and athlete safety
    • Posing as choreography and artistic expression
    • Why bodybuilding can be viewed as an art form
    • The future of professional bodybuilding
    • What the industry could do better for its athletes

This is an honest conversation about what happens beyond the stage - and why the bodybuilding industry needs to have difficult conversations if it wants athletes to thrive.

  • The Off-Season - When Gaining Weight Fucks With Your Head

    Send us Fan Mail

The bodybuilding off-season isn’t always the easy part.

In this episode, Romana and Sarah get brutally honest about what really happens when the goal shifts from getting lean to building muscle, gaining weight and looking after your health.

    They dive into:

    • The mental battle of gaining weight - learning to see scale weight as potential muscle growth rather than automatically seeing it as fat.
    • When your clothes stop fitting - wedgies, chafing, bras that no longer fit and why needing bigger clothes can actually be a sign of progress.
    • Body image and perception - how extreme competition leanness can skew the way you see yourself once you begin gaining weight.
    • Why BMI isn’t the whole story - particularly when it comes to muscular athletes.
    • Health behind the physique - including iron levels, blood health, fatigue and the effects of anabolics.
    • Hormonal health - hypothalamic amenorrhea, HRT and why protecting long-term health matters.
    • Lethargy, sleep and performance - what can happen physically as bodyweight increases.
    • Posing and presentation - why being in incredible condition doesn’t automatically mean you know how to present it on stage.
    • The reality of coaching - setting boundaries, limiting client numbers and avoiding the “zombie” state that can come with extreme prep.
    • Reframing progress - sometimes the evidence that you’re growing is as simple as your old clothes no longer fitting.

This is an honest conversation about the side of bodybuilding that doesn’t always look good on Instagram.

Because getting bigger doesn’t mean you’re getting worse.

Sometimes, the weight you’re fighting mentally is the very weight helping you build the physique you’ve been working for.

  • The Reality of Female Bodybuilding Nobody Talks About | Off-Season, Prep, Hormones & Mental Health | Bodybuilding Uncovered Ep. 19

    Send us Fan Mail

What does it really take to become a professional female bodybuilder?

In this episode, Sarah sits down with Quincey for an honest conversation about the realities that exist behind the stage - from the loneliness of the off-season and the relentless demands of prep, to the mental resilience required to keep going when your body is telling you to stop.

They explore Quincey’s ambitions for her professional debut, while diving into the parts of bodybuilding that social media rarely shows: losing external validation, living through repetitive routines, navigating hormonal changes, and discovering that the reverse diet can sometimes be harder than the prep itself.

The conversation goes beyond training and nutrition, exploring people-pleasing, boundaries, comparison, social media validation and the importance of being present rather than constantly chasing the next version of yourself.

Sarah and Quincey also unpack what effective coaching really looks like - why coaches can't "want it more" than their clients, when accountability becomes necessary, why coaches need to recognise the limits of their expertise, and when professional mental-health support is the right next step.

This is a conversation about bodybuilding, but also about identity, discipline, healing and learning to find yourself outside of the stage.

    In this episode:

    • The reality of the female bodybuilding off-season
    • Preparing the mind and body for professional competition
    • Why the reverse can be harder than the prep
    • Structure, discipline and the myth of "balance"
    • Social media validation and comparison
    • People-pleasing and learning to set boundaries
    • Knowing when coaching isn't enough
    • Healing your relationship with food and yourself
    • The realities of building serious muscle
    • What the bodybuilding industry gets wrong

  • When Social Media Validation Takes Over: Breaking the Cycle of Likes, Growth & Burnout

    Send us Fan Mail

What happens when social media growth starts to control your mental health, relationships, and everyday life?

In this episode, Sarah Parker opens up about her experience of rapidly growing on social media and the unexpected pressure that came with it. After one video about pain in the female bodybuilding industry helped her audience grow from around 4,000 to nearly 6,000 followers, the excitement of engagement quickly became a cycle of checking likes, chasing validation, and worrying about performance.

Sarah shares how constantly monitoring notifications, deleting posts that didn't meet her expectations, and prioritising content creation began affecting her mental wellbeing and her relationship with her partner, Matt.

She also explains the changes she made to regain control - from creating a structured content schedule and setting boundaries around her phone, to learning to detach from engagement metrics and focus on the real people behind the numbers.

This is an honest conversation about social media, validation, burnout, relationships, boundaries, and finding a healthier balance between online growth and real life.

    Key topics include:

    • The addictive cycle of likes and notifications
    • How rapid social-media growth can create unexpected pressure
    • The impact of content creation on relationships
    • Setting boundaries with your phone and social media
    • Learning to detach from engagement metrics
    • Building a healthier and more intentional content strategy
    • Why quality of connection matters more than follower numbers
    • Protecting your mental, physical, and relationship health

Sometimes, the most important metric isn't how many people liked your post — it's whether you're still present for the people who matter most.
