It’s been awhile since I did a Life Lessons Series episode and I hope this one really helps those of you out there with autoimmune disorders. 

Two weeks before my first husband died, it was uncovered that I had an auto-immune disorder called Lichen Sclerosus which is basically a thinning and whitening of the skin which causes it to be itchy and peel off. It can happen anywhere on your body, but for me it presents in a very sensitive area, which you’ll hear all about in this episode.

 What I want you to take away from this episode is that instead of getting bogged down in what you have and how much it sucks, try treating it like a gift in some way. It doesn’t make it any less hard, but it does make you pay attention to what else is going on in your life. What could be causing a flare-up? Are you working too hard? Are you neglecting your spiritual work? Are you tired as hell? 

I know for me when I have a flare-up, it’s normally when I’ve got too much going on and I’m not resting. Always talk to your health professionals and do what you’ve got to do, but be aware of yourself and how you can be kinder to you first and foremost.

Nobody has it all together.  We all drop the ball sometimes.  And you know what?  Whoever you look up to, those celebrities who seem to have it all together on Instagram, guaranteed they are dropping the ball just as much as you, if not more. Because they’re human and we’re all making it up as we go.  

I stuff things up all the time but I know it’s part of the process and I trust that process.  It’s not supposed to be easy.  Life is hard but I know how to let the hard stuff strengthen me and teach me valuable lessons for next time.  Let the process strengthen you. Don’t get caught up in self-doubt and all that junk.  

If I could say one thing to you right now, it’s this... When you drop the ball (because you will), don’t make it a big deal.  Don’t get angry at yourself and make it a big drama and feel like everyone else is doing better than you.  No one can do it all!  If you dropped the ball you can pick it back up.  Be aware of what happened, make a new plan and move forward.  You got this.

I received a fantastic question from one of my listeners Cynthia, and it happens to be the most perfect time to release this episode as Melbourne prepares for our lockdown to end tomorrow. The question is: How do I manage social anxiety coming out of lockdown?

I am SO excited to get back out into the world y'all, but for some people, there is a lot of anxiety around how they will adjust to being back in the world with other people around. We've become so used to being in small groups with just our family, being in our houses most of the day, staying in our little bubble. What happens when we're able to freely move around again and all our public places, our shopping centres, our hair salons start having large numbers of people again. This may be anxiety-inducing for some of you and I want to let you know that's okay.

Check-in with yourself. Journalling is a really good idea in this situation. Write down the feelings that you're having about what it's going to be like to be back out in public with other humans and think about what you need to feel safe.

For those of you that have been following along on my journey for a while, you will know that 2020 was one of the biggest years of my life professionally. 

My business experienced incredible growth, I welcomed so many more members into the Sistahood and I launched my first mastermind to help businesswomen scale their businesses and make huge impact.

It has been so rewarding, but now looking back on that I am realising what a crazy time that was and how all of us were set up to fail as far as not taking time to rest, feeling like we needed to hustle to change our business models due to covid and to give as much as we could to our communities who were all needing support. 

So I did all the things. I got it all done, but by the end of the year I was severely rundown, my immune system was shot, I had a fatty liver and I was wrecked. 

I vowed that 2021 would be different and then the year started out to be just as crazy if not crazier than 2020. Something needs to give. I am now truly realising and leaning into the fact that I need to slow down. I have been burnt out and it’s exhausting. 

My guest today on the podcast is Amie Mcnee and is the perfect woman to chat to about this topic. This is actually her second time on the podcast too.

What you believe about yourself is everything. It shapes how you think, it shapes what you do, it shapes what you believe about the world and the people around you. 

So what do you think your life is going to be like if you believe you can’t do it, that you’re not good enough, that you’re not worthy or strong enough or smart enough? You will be those things. So if you want to absolutely murder confidence, all you need to do is believe you can’t be confident. 

This episode is all about quieting the mind and tuning in to the inner voice to find out what you truly, deeply believe. Somewhere deep inside, we all have a knowing that we are greater than what we look like, what we do and what labels we put on ourselves. That small inner voice says you CAN do it, that you are capable of anything your heart desires. It’s time to turn up the inner voice and turn down the inner critic.

I'm in a huge lesson at the moment and I don't have an answer for you. This episode is for me as much as it's for you.

Recently I've come to the realisation that I absolutely do not value rest. In my life, there has been no evidence that rest has been the answer to anything. All through my childhood, I had to work hard to get anything. I had to hustle. I had to bust my ass to get what I needed, and I've taken this mentality into adulthood.

So I worked incredibly hard to achieve all the things that I've been able to achieve and this hustle was necessary. We were not in a great position when I started my business. I needed to work hard.

But now I don't need to work so hard, and also I'm realising it's not sustainable.

My life is so beautiful and I am so fortunate. I just need to remind myself of this more often and take restorative rest.

Appreciate where you are right now and take away from it what you can.

I am going into LOCKDOWN sis!

And no there isn't a government lockdown happening in Melbourne Australia again (thank goodness)

I am doing this on purpose, creating the time to get myself away from every single distraction possible so I can finalise the first draft of my second book! (Dropping JAN 2025)

I don't know about you but it feels hard and harder nowadays to focus. To make the time to be away from the phones, the notifications and emails...to truly focus on the things that need your time and attention.

So, maybe you need to put yourself into LOCKDOWN?

Lockdown your time, blockout your calendar and really sit with yourself to get the things you want to get done once and for all?
