Have you ever been told that your weight is just a matter of willpower?
Or that if you simply “tried harder,” you’d get the results you want? Maybe you’ve even heard that using medication or surgery is “cheating.” If so, you’re far from alone, and it’s time to call BS on that idea.
If you’ve ever felt shame or guilt about your weight, know this: it’s not your fault. Obesity is a complex, chronic disease shaped by biology, hormones, genetics, and environment, not a personal weakness. While healthy eating and exercise are always important, they are often not enough on their own. That’s where medical tools like medications and surgery come in, not as shortcuts but as treatments grounded in evidence.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve had experiences that reminded me why this conversation is still so important. Some were inspiring, like connecting with state leaders working to expand access to obesity care. Others were frustrating: clear signs that weight bias still exists in medicine and media alike.
In this episode, I will share three stories that show how weight bias appears in everyday life and why challenging it matters. These examples might make you shake your head, but I hope they also give you the words to push back and remind yourself that your health deserves recognition at every step forward.
Catch the full episode to hear all three stories and get practical ways to challenge weight bias in your own life.

What if pregnancy wasn’t treated like a pause button on a woman’s health?
What if those nine months weren’t just about waiting for a baby but also about real support, smart guidance, and evidence-based care that actually centers the person who’s pregnant?
That’s the conversation we’re having today.
Pregnancy often gets sidelined in women’s health. There’s so much focus on fertility and postpartum, but what about the time in between? It matters. A lot.
In this episode, we dig into:
My guest, Dr. Kimberley Sampson, is a board-certified OB/GYN who’s also certified in lifestyle and obesity medicine. She’s the chair of OB/GYN at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, teaches at Dartmouth University, and serves as VP of the New England Obesity Society. She brings both clinical expertise and compassion to the table—and she’s not afraid to challenge outdated norms.
If you’ve ever felt like pregnancy care forgets about the actual person going through it—you’re going to want to hear this.
Tune in now and let’s talk about what better care during pregnancy really looks like.

How Are Your Goals Really Doing?
Have you checked on your goals lately? We’re already halfway through the year, and if that makes you think, “Wait, how did we get to July so fast?” you’re definitely not alone. This is usually when goals start collecting dust, feel a little out of reach, or maybe even get forgotten altogether.
But instead of dropping them or beating yourself up, this is actually the perfect time to pause, take a breath, and reassess what still matters to you. Goals aren’t meant to add stress; they're meant to give your life a sense of purpose and direction.
I’ve always been big on setting goals. Honestly, I think it’s one of the main reasons I’ve been able to build the kind of life I truly wanted. Maybe goal setting isn’t really your thing, or maybe you’ve never sat down to formally do it. That’s okay. I’d still encourage you to give it a try. It doesn’t have to be complicated or overwhelming. Even a few simple intentions can make a huge difference.
In this episode, I’m breaking down how doing a mid-year check-in can help you see progress you might have completely missed. I’ll also talk about why tracking your goals matters so much because without keeping tabs on where you are, it’s hard to know how far you’ve actually come. And just as important, I’ll cover why it’s perfectly okay to tweak your goals or even let some go. Life changes, and your goals can too.
So if you’re looking for a little inspiration to see how your own goals are shaping up, give this episode a listen. You might walk away with a fresh perspective on what’s working, what needs adjusting, and maybe even feel that gentle nudge you need to keep moving forward one step at a time.

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to drop weight quickly on medications like Wegovy or Zepbound, while others barely budge?
The truth is, weight loss isn’t as simple as eating less or moving more and even powerful medications don’t work the same for everyone. Results often depend on how these drugs are used, the lifestyle habits that support them, and individual factors like metabolism, other health conditions, and how well the body tolerates treatment.
That’s why it’s important to rethink what “success” really means. For many, losing just 5% to 10% of body weight can make a huge difference, improving blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol enough to lower the risk of serious health issues—even if the scale doesn’t land exactly where they hoped.
In this episode, we’ll cover:
Hit play to find out the top reasons people fall short on Wegovy or Zepbound, how to spot them, and what might finally help you see progress.

What if the secret to aging well isn’t more exercise but moving better?
Welcome to this week’s episode. As many of you know, I’m on a mission to help my patients move more and manage stress better—and today’s guest brings a wealth of insight on both.
I’m joined by Vicki Gold, a retired physical therapist with decades of experience in mind-body fitness and well-being. She’s also the author of Aging Safely, Wisely, and Well: A Movement and Mindset Guide for Older Adults, a practical program designed not just for seniors but for anyone who wants to improve how they look, feel, and function as they age.
In this conversation, Vicki introduces her simple yet powerful ABC Mind-Body System: alignment, breathing, and centering. We talk about the importance of core strength and how common exercises like crunches can be harmful for people with osteoporosis or osteopenia. She explains what a safe and truly supportive core routine looks like, and why breathing well is one of the most underrated tools for reducing stress and improving mobility.
You’ll also hear how these basic principles—when practiced consistently—can create a strong foundation for moving with more ease, feeling more balanced, and staying active through every stage of life. And if you’re not sure where to start, don’t worry. Vicki shares simple ways to build these habits into your day without overwhelming yourself.

What if the most important part of pregnancy care actually happens before you're even pregnant?
Most people start thinking about their health after that positive test, but the time leading up to conception, the preconception period, is just as important, and honestly, often overlooked. It’s a powerful window to support long-term health, not just for the parent and baby, but for future generations too.
In this week’s episode, I’m joined by Dr. Amy Luu, a board-certified family medicine physician and obesity medicine specialist. I’m lucky enough to work with her at Green Mountain Partners for Health in Colorado, where she cares for patients of all ages. She’s especially passionate about helping women navigate the changes that come before, during, and after pregnancy.
We talk about preparing for pregnancy through health habits, the role of weight and medications, and why things like sleep, nutrition, and even vaccines matter more than people realize.
Topics we cover:
• Preconception Health Basics
• Weight and Fertility
• Medications to Consider
• Preparing as a Couple
• Sleep, Nutrition, and Recovery
Whether you’re actively planning a pregnancy or just curious about how to take better care of your body, this episode is packed with insight and encouragement.
Let’s get into it.

Why is it still so hard for women to get the healthcare they deserve?
In this episode, we’re diving into some of the biggest challenges women face in medical care today—from being dismissed or misdiagnosed to the lack of support around weight, PCOS, perimenopause, pregnancy, and menopause. We’ll talk about why obesity care shouldn’t stop during pregnancy, the lesser-known breastfeeding challenges women with obesity face, and why early support during perimenopause matters more than most people realize.
Whether you're a woman trying to navigate your own care or someone who supports women in any capacity, this conversation is a must-listen.
Today, I’m so excited to be joined by Sandra Christensen,a board-certified nurse practitioner, obesity specialist, and founder of Integrative Medical Weight Management in Seattle, Washington. In 2022, she was named Clinician of the Year by the Obesity Medicine Association.
