In our first conversation together in 2023, I want to talk about the accomplishments and adversities myself and my team have faced over the last year. In doing so, we’ll learn what to focus on in 2023.

No matter the adversity, and no matter how insurmountable it feels at the time, nothing can match the feeling of overcoming an obstacle and making it through the other side. Struggle only serves to strengthen you and your team and bring you closer.

At the academy, we will be looking at the first 3 things to focus on to begin the next year. We will be sharing our plans out loud, talking about what habits we need to build, and holding each other accountable for these plans in the future.

So, what will 2023 hold for you as a leader as you enter the next season of growth for you and your business? Firstly, remember that growth does come in seasons. Sometimes it will be, and should be, slow going. It’s okay to need a reset. Those times can help you train, refocus your priorities, and look at the bigger picture.

Economic cycle changes will impact our industry. There’s no way that it can’t. If you and your team have a solid infrastructure, a focus on your customers, and an efficient workflow, it will be easier to weather. Recognize where your company is, focus on creating repeatable outcomes, and step off the hamster wheel of non-stop growth. You need to build sustainable, joyful growth. You need to thrive.

As 2022 comes to a close, I’ve been looking back at the year. We’ve made slow and steady changes in the business throughout the last 12 months, and that’s what inspired me for this episode. Based on those changes, let’s talk about how to step out of your comfort zone by ditching 5 habits in 2023.

It can be hard to believe that things are possible for you and your business. It’s easy to put things off until you have more time, but remember that time is a finite resource and you need to harness it. Make the time to build new habits that will make a difference in your life and business. It’s time to stop chasing and start receiving the abundance that is coming to you. It takes work, but it is completely obtainable.

First, stop being pulled in 1000 different directions. Take the time to install strong infrastructure and train your team to handle things without the need for micromanagement. The second habit to ditch is scheduling add-ons and “squeeze-ins.” Don’t overstretch your already full schedule to accommodate others. Protect your boundaries and create your non-negotiables.

Thirdly, stop putting up with “okay” employees. You don’t need to settle for average employees, and you also need to look at your own expectations. Habit #4 to drop in 2023 is accepting the less-than-ideal version of yourself. Instead, examine who you really want to be and how to become her.

Finally, stop pocketing your core values. Display them for all to see and act in a way that aligns with them. Communicate them. What do you stand for?

In today’s bonus episode, I want to discuss what you truly value as a person and business owner, along with how to obtain it. What comes first for you: time or money? We always need more time, so how can you achieve that?

It’s taken a lot of time and work to get to where I am now, and my values have changed on the journey. Over the years I’ve started to value happiness, time, and relationships more. After spending so much of my early business years using my time to generate money, that is no longer an avenue I want to keep going down.

If you need time, you have to gift it to yourself. How can you show up for yourself in the next year? A while back, my work began to become exhausting. I love my work, but grinding myself to the bone simply wasn’t the way to continue.

I often ask my clients if they value their time or their profits the most. The answer is always “time.” If grinding all the time was the way to your perfect schedule and profits, wouldn’t you already be there? Taking the risk of investing in time is how you truly begin your journey to freedom.

Taking bold and decisive action is what you need to succeed. Yes, initially you may lose some profits, but the future benefits for your business and your personal life are immeasurable. You don’t have to be a machine to be successful.

As we wrap up the year, I’ve been reflecting on my ambitions for the podcast, what I’ve accomplished with it, and how much work it takes to make. I want to share some of that journey with you in today’s episode as well as give an updated take on how to create and understand KPI's.

This year I have made 50 new solo episodes to help 100 women reach the next million-dollar mark in their business. I decided to leverage this podcast as the main marketing source for the business this year, and let me tell you that it is not an easy or quick thing to put together! It can take an entire workday each week just in planning.

Let’s be honest: a majority of us are just trying to understand what practical information we need to grow and profit in our industry. We hire to produce wealth for our business, and KPI's are a way of measuring how well your employees are contributing to the success of your business.

Personally, I prefer to use KRA (key results area), as a more inclusive term. Remember that as a leader, you can’t evaluate or set outlines for others without knowing your own duties and performance. Evaluate yourself and your actions before looking at others.

KPI's/KRA's are a way of diagnosing the health of your business. Create the goals of your company and give individuals their own goals that will help contribute to the overarching success of the business. The KPI's/KRA's you set are only as good as you are. You, your business, and your people are always evolving, so your metrics need to as well.

For today’s episode, I want to ask you about your approach to market communication. How do you find the gaps in your marketing strategy, and how do you speak the language of your client to build trust?

People do business with people, and if you can’t gain a client’s trust, you won’t gain their repeat business. I often speak to providers frustrated with the commoditization of our industry through social media and things like Groupon. It often seems like anyone can do what we do regardless of training or experience.

When it comes to tackling these uncertified businesses, be unapologetically yourself. Knowing who you are and what you stand for will link you with the client base you want for your business. We’re taught to fit in and go with the flow as humans, but it’s time to question that belief and ruffle feathers.

Authors Brad Benbow and Phil Daniels have tried to discern what’s missing when it comes to finding clients with their research, which they have coined Spiritugraphics. It looks at culture and blind spots and what influences consumers to buy. How can this idea help you understand different consumers and fill gaps?

Think about adding a new dimension to how you look at your consumers. How does a faith-driven consumer choose a provider? They overwhelmingly seek out brands that reflect their values and will recommend those brands, while leaving brands that don’t. When people form a community, their beliefs are shared. Think about how this can impact your business and client base.

Let’s talk about how you show up emotionally in your business and why it matters so much. The way you prioritize yourself and your needs will does ultimately influence not just you, but also your business, your team, and your clients.

I recently had a POP Leadership Academy client share her story of a life-changing transformation in her business after shifting her focus with clients. She went from putting all her energy toward serving clients at any cost, to investing in serving herself first.

When she joined the academy, she was running on fumes and working long hours. She felt like she was being pulled in a million different directions. One of the top lessons she’s learned in her journey towards becoming a stronger entrepreneur is to stop pouring from an empty cup.

If you identify with this—even a little bit—it’s time to make small, intentional tweaks to your daily routine that can help free you from this cycle of exhaustion and overwhelm. The reality is that it’s easy to become entangled in your own business to the point where it impacts your health. And, when you compromise your health, you compromise the health of your business.

Making an empowered decision to invest in yourself and your own health can help you show up at work with better energy. A life-first business means you can live in alignment with your core values and operate from a place of sufficiency. Fill your cup first—then you can start filling others.

Today I want to talk about something near and dear to my heart: team building. After hosting dozens of masterclasses and speeches on this exact topic, I’ve come to recognize how elusive this endeavor is for so many business owners.

Pushing yourself out of your team building comfort zone isn’t easy, and that’s why it’s tempting to stay with your core hires or as a solopreneur forever. The hiring market has evolved over the years, but the success principles of team leadership are timeless. Consider this: team building is not actually about the team. It’s about the team builder. Building a team builds you.

There are certain practices you must have as a leader to be able to build a capable and successful team. If you’ve ever stopped to ask yourself where all the good people are (like I have), you might be missing the point. The good people are out there. The question is: why don’t they want to work for you?

You can become a better leader over time and start showing up in the hiring process as the leader you want to be. You can magnetize high-performing individuals, but it starts with you. Remember that it’s not about finding the people you want, it’s about becoming the organization that the people you want are looking for.

Our job as a leader is to understand how to enroll others into our vision by helping them see exactly how our vision helps them accomplish their goals. This is where the real work begins, and it needs to happen daily so you can evolve into the woman and leader you desire to be.

Today I want to talk about what to do to brace for an economic downturn. How can you prepare your business for a rocky road ahead, and set it up to thrive despite what the future does or doesn’t hold?

Right now, economic experts are almost all saying that a downturn is just ahead. Big banks, former officials, and prominent economic experts predict slow growth and a long period of recovery. But, it isn’t all doom and gloom. I want to share a blueprint for leaning into the recession and the quickest path to money, time, and freedom.

A recession doesn’t seem like a great time to start a business, but think again. It could actually be a perfect opportunity to look at the market, see what’s missing, and fulfill a need. Preparation is key, and contingency plans will be your best friend.

A natural move that people make during times of strife is to work harder. Instead, look to work smarter. Make time to plan for the future. As the saying goes, “fail to prepare and prepare to fail.” Next, look at long-term treatment plans and how they can help you and your clients. Don’t put all your focus on new customers and discounts. Instead, look at adding value.

Remember that your team will be so integral to survival and growth. Rely on your top members and ask for their input. Create infrastructure and learn to leverage your team members and most valuable client needs. While there’s no quick fix, with a strategy in place, you and your business can thrive no matter the economy.

If you’re anything like me, you’re not a stranger to being stressed out. You’re overwhelmed, exhausted, and stressed about what’s next. After a crazy week and having to talk myself off a ledge, I figured I would talk to you today about managing entrepreneurial stress.

Reaching burnout is always touted as a bad thing, but what if it could be good for you? What if burnout is the point that you need to reach to make the decision to take your freedom back once and for all? After years of a pandemic, wars, inflation, and so many other things, it can feel like there’s nothing but bad out there. However, you can control how you respond to those triggers.

Today I want to share some ways you can stimulate and recharge your mental freedom, all with the help of one tool we all already have: our brains! Stress only has power over you when you tell it that it does.

We don’t have to be restrained by the problems and overwhelm we create in our own heads along with everything else that is happening. Rest and relaxation are all well and good, but the stress will still be there when you’re done. Until last week, this was all I needed to get by, but I realized it isn’t enough, I needed to harness my own power within to make a change.

I realized that entrepreneurs need a framework to manage entrepreneurial stress in the beginning, so I made one that works for me. Hopefully it can help you deal with your stressors too.

There are plenty of tactics we can teach that can help you grow your business.
