I have to say for everybody that's listening or watching us on video version, yeah, it's definitely where we want to be today. First up, for everybody out there that may not be familiar with your work, I would love it if you could just tell us a little bit about yourself, what you do and perhaps why you do it.

02:04 Yeah, absolutely. I am passionate about helping people to regain their energy, their vitality, and to be the best of themselves so that they can live the life they were intended. I so often see people struggling and suffering and saddling basically for not really living the life that they want to because they're exhausted, their brain fogged, they'd just feel out of balance and out of sorts. I also am so passionate about changing the way the system works because I think a lot of it is because we're brainwashed from the time we're little that you have an ache or pain, you go to the doctor, you get a pill, and it takes care of it. As you age, you get frail and slow down and all that kind of stuff, and we expect that so we get it.

02:51 I think that our system needs to change. I also train health practitioners in the art of using nutrition to affect endocrinology and, use holistic and functional medicine techniques, and to do that in a big part is empowering people. It's what I call self-empowered healthcare. Why am I so passionate about that is I lost my own health when I was in my 20s when time of your life when you think you're at your peak. I was able to regain it, not through Western medicine, but through the kind of work that I now do, which is in nutrition and functional medicine.

03:24 I also lost three very close to actually more than three, but three extremely close family members; my mother, my father, and my sister to what I think were preventable illnesses, but their doctors didn't know what to tell them to do to change their diet and lifestyle.

Nicole is an accomplished naturopath, acupuncturist, IICRC accredited mould remediation technician and building biologist who began clinical practice in 1989. Thank you again for your time and before we get into the questions today, I would love if you could just tell our listeners that may not be familiar about who you are, a little bit about your work and what you do and why you do it?

01:54 Sure. Well, I've been intrigued by energy healing for many, many years. When I was a teenager after high school, I went and lived in a spiritual community where I learned energy healing and learned meditation, so these things are part of my awareness for a long, long time, but what I found really exciting starting in the 1980s where meditation was first being studied was the accumulation or empirical evidence that things like practices, like compassion, like mindfulness, like meditation, like acupuncture, acupressure, all of these seemingly esoteric energetic practices have direct effects and initially the research was on the psyche, so is on anxiety and depression, pain, but now, we have the tools like MRIs, and EEGs to actually drill down and see if they're affecting us physiologically, dramatically.

For the last many, 20, 25 years, I've been collecting evidence, I've been writing books, I've been running clinical trials, I've been doing social projects all to try, and raise the profile of energy medicine in primary care. I wanted in veterans administration hospitals, I wanted in primary care clinics, I wanted in psychotherapy offices. As we get to realize and understand just how profoundly this affects our wellness, I believe it has a place at the frontline of medical care so that's really what my passion is now and that's why I've written ... My earlier book is called, "The Genie in Your Genes," about epigenetics and now this new book, "Mind to Matter," about how our brains and our minds literally are having drastic effects to our bodies and the world around us.

This week we welcome back Alyssa Azar to the show. Alyssa began trekking in 2005 with her first challenge, crossing the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea. Alyssa then trekked in Nepal, completed treks such as Everest Base Camp and Kokoda numerous times, Mt Kosciuszko in Australia, the Aussie 10 (the 10 highest peaks in Australia), Mt Kilimanjaro.

After completing Mt Kilimanjaro in 2011, Alyssa began climbing by doing a mountaineering course in NZ. Since then she has climbed in South America and Nepal on various expeditions to different peaks including: Ama Dablam, Aconcagua, Manaslu and two Everest Expeditions.

Alyssa was on Everest both in 2014 and 2015 when the Avalanche and the Nepal Earthquake occurred and closed the mountain.

In 2016 Alyssa returned for a third time and on the 21st May 2016 became the Youngest Australian to Summit Mount Everest. She has since gone on and climbed again on Aconcagua as well as a summit of the highest mountain in Europe – Mt Elbrus in Russia. Alyssa is currently preparing for a Northside Everest Expedition climbing from Tibet.

She is also now leading climbs on many of the Seven Summits in 2018 and 2019.

 01:41 Yeah, so my name's Alyssa Azar. I'm 21 from Brisbane, but essentially I'm a mountaineer. And so just recently summited Everest for the second time. So originally climbed it from the south side and just recently got back from climbing it from the north side in Tibet. But really, how I got started into that was quite young.

02:02 I got into trekking, and that kind of happened just being exposed to it through my dad. So pretty much since I was four or five years old, he was guiding people across the Kokoda track. That's what he does for a living. And so I was kind of exposed to this world of adventure a little bit. But was always interested in the mountains and so I think I was always gonna sort of end up there at some point. But yeah, most of my weekends were out bush walking and I just loved it. And yeah, kind of harassed my dad to take me to Kokoda. I was obsessed with it. And yeah, he did. So I was eight years old when I first crossed the Kokoda track. And then from there, every few years we'd try and do another trip somewhere. And it was then, Everest base camp, Kilimanjaro, and it was often Kilimanjaro that I realized Everest had always been this thing in the back of my mind. And I'm gonna go for it and set the goal and then I knew, it's gonna be a few years away, but yeah started preparing for it and that's essentially been my life I guess. For the last few years now.

 This week we welcome Dr. William Davis to the show. He is a Milwaukee-based American cardiologist and author of health books known for his stance against "modern wheat", which he labels a "perfect, chronic poison." This view had previously been rejected by the medical and agricultural industry based on conjecture, minimal controlled studies, and challenges inherent to clinical research,however anecdotal evidence such as Dr. Davis's and among many patients in the western populace suggest more research is necessary to understand and measure physiological and psychological influences that gluten and today's contemporary cultivars of wheat may have on human health apart from non-therapeutic dietary trends. In a review of May 2015 published in Gastroenterology, Fasano et al. conclude that, although there is an evident "fad component" to the recent rise in popularity of the gluten-free diet, there is also growing and unquestionable evidence of the existence of non-celiac gluten sensitivity.

 00:01:29 Fantastic. So Jim, before we get into the nuts and bolts of the show today, I would love if you could just tell our listeners a little bit about yourself, what you do, why you do it, and go for it.

Jim

 00:01:46 Sounds good. Well, if people are listening to this episode, at some level they're probably interested in improving their mental performance, their focus, their memory, they want to read faster, they know their brain controls every aspect of their life. If people see me on stage or on YouTube, they've seen me memorize 100 people's names. Like literally, 100 people stand up and I'll remember their names, or they'll give me 100 words or 100 numbers, and I'll memorize them forwards and backwards.

But I always tell people, Stu, I don't do this to impress you. I do this more to express to you what's possible because the truth is every single person who's listening to this can do that and a lot more. The only challenge is we weren't taught. If anything, we were taught a lie, a lie that somehow our intelligence, our potential, our memory for instance is somehow fixed, like our shoe size.
