For as long as Mikaela can remember she has struggled with her weight and body image. Growing up she was bullied  and taunted for her weight and sadly this turned into severe disordered eating and binging/purging excessively. She quickly noticed the positive attention and compliments as the weight fell off and used this as motivation to continue to starve herself or purge the small amount of food she was consuming.

Cut to 2020 the pandemic hits and Mikaela found herself in a dark place, a bad relationship and suffering physically and mentally - in this time she gained 60kgs. After a lifetime of deprivation things quickly switched to the other extreme, isolated and ending her engagement Mikalea was at her biggest weight and her lowest point mentally and physically.

After multiple lockdowns the gyms were open and for the first time in her life Mikaela focused on a one step at a time approach towards a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Slow and steady she began working out and making small healthy changes losing 45kgs naturally. Mikalea was privately documenting this journey for her own motivation: she eventually decided to be vulnerable and bravely share it too the world via her instagram page, her determination is something to be admired and you will be in complete awe of this complete transformation of a girl who has taken back the power and is living her best life!

Jemima and Chelsea are both 25 YO females, and are an engaged couple that have been together for 7 years. Their interaction began as best friends and eventually blossomed into a serious and committed relationship. They are both here today to share their story about the challenges they have faced as a same sex couple from high school until now.

There have been a large variety of difficulties for Jemima and Chelsea impacting their relationship including bullying, family challenges, stigmas and stereotypes and their overall confidence as a couple. In this episode they walk us through these challenges and how this has affected each of them individually and as a couple. They speak about their polar opposite experiences coming out to their families and sharing their sexuality and relationship with the world as well as the both positive and negative reactions from the public they still receive to this day.

Whilst Jemima & Chelsea are different in so many ways, in this interview you will hear all the reasons why their relationship works so well and the true love and admiration they have for one another. They hope their story can help anyone within the LGBTQI + community feel at ease and to encourage individuals to embrace one's inner true happiness.

From the age of 4 years old Hannah was placed in Foster Care with her younger brother, in and out of this system for the next few years it was anything but loving and caring. Hannah and her brother experienced Abuse & Neglect - Hannah also was sexually abused multiple times in this time. 

In this heartbreaking recount of her formative younger years, Hannah describes the pain and confusion she felt & the longterm effects this has had on her throughout her entire life and now into her adulthood as a Mother now herself.  Hannah describes the mental and psychical toll this kind of abuse takes on a person and navigating life as an adult.

A few years ago Hannah was invited to speak at the Royal Commission enquiry into sexual abuse, not only this was the first time telling her story, but also the first time most of her loved ones were made aware of the abuse she suffered as as child.

Hannah is passionate about spreading awareness and advocating for children who are placed in the foster care system, She now works for a Charity called "Hope In A Suitcase"
Hope in a Suitcase Australia is a non-profit organisation run by volunteers who are incredibly passionate about showing every child in the foster care system that they are loved and valued by their community. They aim to do this by giving them a suitcase of their very own to ensure they have a safe and secure place in which to pack their belongings and take with them wherever their journey may lead.

Finally we chat about Hannah's life now as a Mother & Partner and what her hopes and dreams are for the future.

Shari Plater is a proud Mother to her two children Nate & Ellie and Fiancé to her partner Ash. From as far back as Shari can remember her childhood was hard, traumatic and living in complete survival mode. Raised by a parent with a heavy drug addiction and witnessing overdose multiple times, Shari was forced to grow up very quickly.
 
With no other choice but to step into the role of the caretaker and 'Mum' for her younger siblings, they were often without gas, electricity or food with all the funds going towards her mothers addiction. Shari would have no other choice but to either steal food for her siblings or get accustomed to the feeling of being hungry all the time. She eventually left school to take care of her brothers and sisters.

Shari was exposed to incredibly unsafe and unsettling situations and behaviours on a daily basis, bearing so much weight and responsibility on a young girls shoulders and constantly living in fight or flight. She was not only sexually abused as a minor by a family member but also used by her mother to "pay her drug debts". These incredibly heartbreaking and devastating situations left Shari completely traumatised to this day. These are things that no person or child should EVER have to experience.

Shari has bravely opened up and bared her soul in hopes that her story will help people who need it. Growing up feeling so incredibly alone and unsafe she is proof that anything is possible and even the hardest and most awful circumstances can make one incredibly kind, warm, friendly and wonderful person.

Just under a year ago Nikita and her husband Harley received the most devasting diagnosis for their youngest child Isla - Battens Disease, a rare genetic disorder otherwise known as Childhood Dementia that affects 1 in 100,000 children and Isla being one of only two children in Australia with CLN1.

Nikita became concerned about her little girl when she hit 18-20 months and her development was very delayed. She had hit her milestones rather quickly up until that point - she rolled, sat up, crawled, walked, said a few words, was eating independently, all the "normal" things. After pleading with

Nikita saw a few doctors before she was taken seriously. On her final visit she pleaded with a physician who finally listened and fast-tracked Isla's paediatric appointment from July 2021 to early March 2021. All the necessary tests were conducted over a week. All genetic testing results were going to take up to eight weeks and, in the meantime, all other tests were coming back "normal". Fast forward a few weeks and Isla was regularly in and out of hospital. She had lost the ability to walk, stand, and was constantly lethargic. She'd stopped chewing, was choking, was back on puree foods, and her general health had deteriorated very quickly.

This rare genetic imprinting disorder that will profoundly affect her life in every aspect. This disorder will cause Isla to struggle with developmental delay, speech impairment, painful seizures, vision impairment and loss, problems with thinking, movement and balance! It also means Isla will always require around the clock care, and eventually, palliative care and currently there is no cure!

Nikita and her family are determined to not only spread awareness about this rare disease but hopeful that once Isla is accepted into clinical trials in the US her life and abilities could be improved significantly. It is their mission to be loud and proud and spread this story far and wide to give Isla every chance and opportunity at the life she deserves.

Chelsea is an accomplished model and actress and up until a few years ago she found herself in the darkest and most dangerous place she had ever been. When she met someone who coerced her into joining him  to work in the Sex/Porn industry things quickly changed into an abusive and controlling relationship.

Scared for her life and in complete survival mode, Chelsea was trafficked by her partner and forced to film multiple videos and so many of which were unpaid for her. Completely under the control of her then partner Chelsea was subjected to brutal domestic violence, in one instance she almost lost her life.

Chelsea shares this story for the first time to not only give hope to people in a similar situation but shed some light on what defines sex trafficking, how unfairly judged women are in this industry and the gross bullying and shaming she is constantly dealing with still to this day - years after leaving the industry.

Proof that you can completely rebuild your life, Chelsea bravely and openly shares the toughest and hardest moments of her life. She gives a new outlook and perspective for those that instinctively judge these women and forget to see that many are victims of domestic violence, emotional abuse and coercion. There are life long affects from these situations and hearing this story will open your mind and give you a new outlook and respect for women in this situation.

In 2016 Kirsten had her world completely turned upside down, going through a divorce at just 26 years old, Kirsten had to grieve the life and family she had planned and start over. At her lowest point mentally and physically, suffering debilitating social anxiety and depression she decided to make some changes, she began exercising and changing her eating habits, dropping 40kgs and gaining a new found confidence.

But she didn't stop there! Thriving in her newfound healthy lifestyle Kirsten then entered her first Bikini Competition and to her surprise she placed first! The evidence was building that anything she set her mind too, she could accomplish. In hopes to provide that same confidence and hope to people around her, Kirsten decided to take a risk amongst the many lockdowns in the 2020/2021 period and quit her stable 9-5 career in Real estate and pursue this passion. She became not only a fitness coach and PT but a diet coach, working one on one with clients to achieve their individual goals

With a deep understanding of what it's like to start from scratch, have zero fitness and learning how to nourish her body in a healthy way. Kirsten has a real fire in her belly and passion for a healthy mindset and relationship with food and exercise and wants to show other women it is possible to do it without depriving yourself.

Finally we discuss her recently launched social media consulting business "The Social Influence" . I ask Kirsten to give our listeners some insight into the social media world and how she grew her instagram audience to over 11K. 5 years ago at just 26 years old Ash Hamm was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. What started out as a sore bloated stomach, quickly escalated over the following weeks. Doctors suspecting a food intolerance, pregnancy or natural weight gain - Ash knew it had to be something else. Unable to eat or drink at this point, she was pleading with GPs/Doctors to help her, after many attempts and trips to the emergency department she was eventually referred to a local Gynaecologist for an Ultrasound. 

Ash was then diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, Immediately admitted into hospital to drain the leaking fluid from her ovaries. They later drained 11 litres of fluid from her growing abdomen, finally an explanation for the inability to eat or drink.  In this episode Ash walks us through the diagnosis, her painful surgeries resulting in the loss of her ovaries.

We talk about her Chemo therapy and treatment and the confronting conversations and statistics she was faced with during those months. Ash gives us insight into her mindset when she was in those trenches and the immense gratitude she feels for her everyday life.

Finally we chat about her miracle baby Paddy! When told she had lost her ovaries, Ash's sister offered to donate her eggs to enable Ash and her husband a chance at their own family.  We speak about this incredible journey, her pregnancy and love for every single part of motherhood.

A few years ago Jamie was in a relationship that started out fun and exciting, a few months in she found herself in an emotionally abusive relationship. Unable to do anything without having her every move watched and analysed by her partner, unbeknownst to Jamie at the time she was experiencing extreme emotional abuse, coercive control & gaslighting daily.

In this episode Jamie walks us through this dark time in her life, the constant anxiety and fear she would feel in her day to day life and how debilitating it is to constantly be walking on eggshells around someone who is mentally unwell and under the influence of drugs and alcohol. She explains the financial strain this took when she suddenly became the only one working and providing for them both, frequently unable to make ends meet for basic things like food.

We chat about the behaviours and tendencies of an emotionally abusive partner, the constant cycle they were caught in when it came to trying to leave and forgiveness and how she finally was able to break free and see the relationship for what is was once it had ended.

Finally we discuss the Domestic & Family Violence umbrella, how broad it can be and how abuse is not always physical. Emotional abuse completely erodes your identity  and sense of self, its so important to spread awareness about these painful and hard topics, the affects can be psychologically devastating.
