  • 163: The path from the good girl to the unapologetic woman

Today I talk about my journey of healing from codependency and people-pleasing through leaving the 9-5 system and starting to work for myself.

I never, NEVER desired to be an entrepreneur or to work for myself, but in my late 30s, after 4 corporate jobs, I realized... this ain't ever gonna change.

At the same time I was beginning my codependency and people-pleasing recovery journey, and realized that my codependency and low self-worth had THRIVED in the hierarchal, permission-based, patriarchal, rule-following world of the 9-5 and I truly had to begin to reckon with the depths of my people-pleasing if I wanted to ever be able to work for myself.

In today's episode, I talk about how I began to do that, and how you can too.

Ready to exit the 9-5 system that's not working for you and build a way of working for yourself that's values- based, authentic, and will help your mental health? The waitlist for Secretly Ambitious, the 12-week business course for highly sensitive people who want to start their own business but don't know how, is now open! By signing up for the waitlist you'll get $100 off the course when it opens in July.

  • 162: A small trick to begin recovering from people-pleasing

What's up my fellow people-pleasers, this one goes out to you. Codependency and people-pleasing stem from, at their core, a lack of identity. One of the primary ways a codependent struggles is because we never had the chance to develop a sense of identity that is independent of what others think of us. As we recover from people-pleasing and codependency, one small but effective shift is to start a daily practice of noticing when you're asking externally motivated questions ("What do they want, what do they need, what are they thinking about me?") and shift them to questions that are centered on the self.

Have you asked yourself what you need today? What you'd like today? What would feel good today? Start there, and let the path unfold in front of you. That's what today's episode is all about and how to start building these questions into your life.

  • 161: What does it mean to surrender, and how do we know when it's time to do so?

What does it mean to surrender? And why do we struggle so mightily with the concept, and resistance to it? And even if we understand we must surrender, how do we actually start? I ponder and explore the concept of surrender in our lives in today's podcast.

  • 160: The top 5 things that may be blocking you from starting a business and how to get over them

People-pleasing. Money mindset. Permission mindset and employee thinking. Nervous system dysregulation. Fear of visibility. What do these all have in common? These are just a few of the things that block highly sensitive people from success in entrepreneurship.

When I started my own business, I thought I would have to learn like, Quick Books. Turned out what I actually needed to focus on was these 5 issues first.  I talk through each of these today and how you can began to overcome them in order to start the business of your dreams.

  • 159: Why your 9-5 job is *not* "safer" than entrepreneurship (Secretly Ambitious waitlist is now open!)

Today I go on a rant that's been on my heart for a while: all about why your 9-5 is NOT more "stable," "secure," or "safe" than working for yourself and starting your own business. Trust me on this one; after nearly two decades in a corporate 9-5 environment, I can tell you this: I hate to break it to you, but your corporate 9-5 is not more secure than you starting your own business. I break down why that is on today's episode.

  • 158: How I healed a deep wound that was triggered in real time

Hi Soothers! In today's podcast, I talked about a real-time trigger happened recently around a female friendship/feeling left out wound. I discuss what the trigger was, how I noticed it, moved through it, and healed it, and the powerful outcome it had for me. I also share 6 steps to how you can process and heal your own triggers. To be triggered is to be human, but there ARE tools we can use to support ourselves through it so we are able to respond, rather than react and regret it later!

New workshop alert!!! Join me for a new workshop, How to Do Shadow Work, Saturday, June 4th, 2pm-4pmET.

Healing triggers like the one I talk about is a deep component of shadow work.

By taking the workshop you'll get...

    • Live training on how to begin to discover and integrate the shadow

  • 157: 8 tips on how to start using affirmations so they actually work for you

Ever tried affirmations but they just fell flat?  If you're anything like me, you know that affirmations are a big cornerstone and tenet of self-development but they never fully just... clicked for you. Maybe they felt fake, they felt lame, you couldn't really actually believe they would work, or the affirmations you heard about felt like such a load of toxic positive hooey ("I am a gorgeous goddess, I am a millionaire many times over") that you were just turned off by the whole concept and gave up on them.

Well, I'm here to hopefully change that for you today. Consider this your guide to practically creating useful affirmations in a tangible way.

Listen on for my favorite tips to make my affirmations really work, but feel authentic and useful, too!

  • 156: How to do shadow work (and what is it, even?)
The shadow is a psychological term for everything we can’t see in ourselves, or that we refuse to see. It is everything about us that we have been shamed about, or that we have chosen to reject in ourselves.

And shadow work is truly the work of discovering a hidden wound we may not even have been aware we had, and beginning to heal it so we can be our full, whole, authentic selves.

As Debbie Ford says, "The key to unlocking your true authentic power, opening up your heart deeply to love, and finding the confidence to go after everything you want in your life lies hidden in your shadow."

In today's episode I'll share what shadow work is, why it matters and how it helps you grow when you do it, how the shadow develops, and steps to begin your own shadow work.

Ready to go deeper in shadow work? Join me for a new workshop, How to Do Shadow Work, Saturday, June 4th, 2pm-4pmET.
