Hello friends, and welcome to an episode of the podcast where I discussed 7 ways why engaging with your privilege and racism is necessary for your own healing, self-knowledge and growth — as well, and more importantly, to save the lives of and elevate the voices of people of color and vulnerable, marginalized populations.
If you're an empathetic, sensitive perfectionist with people-pleasing tendencies, in particular, you'll want to listen to today's episode. I explore the concept of "as above, so below" — how the external state of the world reflects our internalities, and why we must do personal healing and reflection in tandem with work to bring justice to the external world as well. I also discuss how shame, perfectionism and people-pleasing are no longer excuses we can rely on to not try to take imperfect action to address this scourge.
The 7 ways in which your personal growth intersects with your ability to reflect on your racism and white privilege are:
In short: If we don’t do all we can to reclaim wholeness in society we can’t also do it internally because we are betraying our very selves and souls when we allow injustice to exist outside of us. So if you are here for the personal growth and self-discovery, content, know that your own personal growth is deeply intertwined with how you engage with racism and white privilege, and that's what I'm hoping to unpack today.

Overthinkers, come on in — today's episode is all about you, for you, by your sorts of people.
In today's podcast I interview Meredith Arthur, the author of the beautiful new book, Get Out of My Head: Inspiration for Overthinkers in an Anxious World. In this hardcover, illustrated guide (I highly recommend you purchase the hardcover version!), Meredith offers soothing techniques for understanding anxiety and moving through the traps of overthinking. The book offers a joyful, manageable way to deal with anxiety and quiet stressful thoughts through easy exercises, bite-sized takeaways, and calming visuals. Which, of course, I am all about.
Meredith and I talk about all sorts of things, including our own dawning realizations that we were overthinkers who had anxiety, our theories on emotional overwhelm, and our strategies for continuing to move through and thrive in the world as overthinkers.
Meredith can be found at bevoya.com, the community she created for overthinkers, and on Instagram @bevoya.

Let’s dive into our birth charts in today’s discussion with astrologer Carolina Martin! Carolina and I trained together in our life coach certification program and as we became friends I learned that she’s studied astrology for 25 years and can basically see into your soul and psyche with your birth information.
Carolina and I discuss how you can gain greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and move forward more thoughtfully in life knowing things about yourself that astrology can reveal. She also gives me a chart reading, revealing what my chart says about my career, my purpose, my talents, my struggles in dating, and a whole lot more.
I also talk up front about how I’m still nervous and even a little ashamed to talk about astrology and how much I now believe in it. If you’re curious or even skeptical about astrology, I think this episode will give you a lot to think about. I know it did for me!
If you’re interested in having Carolina give you a chart reading, you can contact her at [email protected] or book a reading at her Facebook page. I highly recommend her!

Today's episode is short and sweet. We've got a few housekeeping updates and a phrase I've been thinking about a lot lately and what it actually means when we say it: "I can't."

Today I'm calling ya out. I'm discussing the 8 kinds of people who believe that they can't change their lives. Everybody from the person who engages in the "rescue fantasy," to the person who has forgotten the skill of dreaming big, and more, I detail the blockers many of us have learned or taken on that are simply excuses that allow us to continue to live small or in fear of doing the big, hairy, audacious goals that you secretly dream about.
I'm also telling you about my brand new course, An Introduction to Intentional Living! The course begins April 19th, with modules going out every Sunday for 8 weeks. For 8 weeks, through email, I will walk you step-by-step, using guided meditations, journal prompts, quizzes, self-reflection, and assignments, to help you get in touch with your values, your desires, and to create the self-trust you need to live authentically. By the end of the course you’ll have created 5-10 values-based, authentic goals; have an actionable plan on how to move forward with them; and most importantly, finally really know what you want out of life and how you’re going to get it.

I'm here today to talk about a topic I know we are all grappling with: fear.
I used to be a terrified person. I let fear rule and run my life, without even realizing that's what I was doing. Thanks to my personal development, mindfulness practices, and other strategies I used, I'm now able to experience fear, even have compassion for it, but not let it be the decision-maker in my life.
So today, I'm sharing the 10 tips I use to mindfully engage with my fear and move through it, and I hope they'll help you, too.

Today I’m so excited to have on to the Sunday Soother podcast one of my internet girl crushes - Sarah Von Bargen of YesAndYes.org. Sarah is a writer and educator who helps her audience spend their time, money, and energy on purpose. In a time today when many of us are probably reflecting on what is necessary in our lives and what is not, what makes us happy and what doesn’t, and how we want to spend our days intentionally going forward after social distancing, this podcast and Sarah’s insights are just a wealth of useful and practical information.
This was recorded in early March, right as COVID-19 was starting to impact the U.S., but before social distancing and stay-at-home orders.
In our conversation, we dive into a lot of great stuff:

What happens if you’re in a long-term corporate career, you’re super successful, but you’re burned the hell out, and you dream of leaving to do … uh… something, anything else?
Sara Brown did this. She is a Sunday Soother reader who emailed me a few months ago to say my journey of leaving my corporate career to start my own thing — and all my reflection along the way — resonated with her. After a nearly 20-year successful career in corporate PR and communications, Sara realized she was desperately burned out and she just… left. I wanted to interview her to hear her story as I think the Soother community — and the world at large — are in a moment right now where we’re wondering if our careers are what we want to, or need to be, doing with and for ourselves.
