  • Your AM Headlines + How AI Is Cloning Your Social Media To Steal Your Money

    HEADLINES:

    • Pauline Hanson has been condemned yet again for an offensive comment made on another podcast.

    • The man widely acknowledged as the Godfather of AI is concerned artificial intelligence could escape human control.

    • A betting company ad featuring Sydney Sweeney has sparked backlash from dozens of female athletes, who say it sexualises women's sport.

    • If you’re looking for a summer holiday – the camping season is underway and the best campsites have just been crowned.

AI is making scams faster, more convincing, and harder to detect - and it can happen to anyone. Charlotte Mortlock talks to cybercrime expert Richard Mallam, founder and CEO of identity technology company VO and former head of payments and identity at Google, about how scammers are using deepfakes and cloned voices (built from as little as three to seven seconds of audio) to impersonate your bank, your bank, or your family, and why the system currently puts the burden on victims to prove a scam wasn't them.
Richard explains the three stages of a modern scam, why voice fraud has surged 1,300% year on year, and what technology already exists to stop it.

If any of this feels close to home, IDCARE offers free, independent support on 1800 595 160, and you can report it to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au.
