On the weekend, residents in Israel’s border towns were confronted by Hamas militants who rampaged through towns as they fired thousands of rockets into Israeli territory.

What has occurred in the hours and days after the start of this latest escalation has been brutal, shocking and sad, with many innocent women and children caught up in the conflict.

But while the war has begun again in earnest in this part of the world, and governments around the globe line up behind their chosen ally, the complexities of this struggle are again in the spotlight and leave many wondering if this was the only and inevitable outcome.

A few weeks ago Taylor Swift showed up at an NFL game to support her rumoured beau Travis Kelce. It launched a media frenzy with photos of the two of them going viral. A week later she showed up in the stands again, this time surrounded by some of her famous pals.

Just over a week ago, news broke that a tree in the north of England had been felled. The famous Sycamore Gap Tree was approximately 300 years old, and stood beside  a section of the 1900 year old Hadrian's Wall, which the romans began constructing in 122 AD.
