Sarah Britton is a holistic nutritionist, Whole Foods chef, and creator of the hugely successful My New Roots blog. Zoey Gong is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) chef, food therapist, and healer. Zoey grew up in Shanghai and moved to the US with her family when she was 16. Today, she lives in Brooklyn, New York, and travels across the country cooking and hosting fabulous dinners, including 10-course mushroom feasts and mid-autumn full-moon tastings. Natalie Ginsberg (MSW) serves as the Global Impact Officer at the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), a nonprofit that carries out pioneering research into the role that psychedelics can play in treating mental health conditions. Through her work, Natalie raises awareness of the therapeutic uses of psychedelics, and she is particularly interested in the potential for psychedelics to heal intergenerational trauma.

As GIO, she works for the responsible integration of psychedelics into mainstream culture, to help “set the setting” for an ethical global movement. Natalie joined MAPS in 2014, founding the Policy & Advocacy department, and serving as its director for 5 years.  She also initiated and co-developed MAPS’ Health Equity program. Before joining MAPS in 2014, Natalie worked as a Policy Fellow at the Drug Policy Alliance, where she helped legalize medical cannabis in her home state of New York, and worked to end New York’s race-based marijuana arrests. Natalie currently lives in Los Angeles, CA. She received her B.A. in history from Yale College, and her master’s of social work (M.S.W.) from Columbia University.  She is also a co-founder of the Jewish Psychedelic Summit.

I’m joined by Giuliana Furci, mycologist, and founder of the Fungi Foundation, the world’s first non-governmental organization for the protection of fungi. Giuliana has over 20 years of fungi research experience and was recently awarded the National Geographic Conservation Leadership Award, making her the first mycologist ever to receive the honor.

In our conversation, Giuliana reflects on her path to becoming an expert in fungi research and advocacy. She describes some of the intense expeditions that she’s been on over the course of her career, as well as how the process for field research has changed since she got started in the late 90s. Giuliana is a champion for fungi recognition within legal conservation and protection frameworks, including leading the Fungi Foundation initiative for the word ‘funga’ to be an equivalent term to flora and fauna.

Giuliana and I also discuss the life lessons that she’s gained from working with fungi, like the beauty of the interdependent nature of living organisms. We talk about the current mainstream collective consciousness of the power of fungi and why they’ve gone largely unnoticed in the past. Plus, Giuliana shares the expeditions, collaborations, and exciting projects happening at Fungi Foundation.

Welcome to The Rainbo Podcast! I’m Tonya, the founder of Rainbo, a functional mushroom brand offering tinctures, supplements, and functional foods to support wellbeing and immunity. On today’s episode, I’m sharing some background on who I am, what we’re doing over at Rainbo, and what you can expect out of this podcast.

My vision for this show is to amplify stories around healing, human potential, spirituality, psychedelics, plant medicines, health, and wellness. There’s a lot of misinformation around fungi, and my goal is to debunk some of those myths and help listeners explore the beauty of the species.
