Today we've donned the tuxedos (well, actually the tee-shirts that make it look like we're wearing a tuxedo), because we have the honor of announcing the finalists for the Plutus Awards! At the top of the show we're joined by Mr. Plutus Awards himself, Harlan Landes, and also his partner at Adulting.tv, Miranda Marquit. They'll run down the full slate of winners, from Best Investing Blog to Best New Podcast, to the big one...Blog Of The Year.
But what awards reveal is complete without a little gossip - uhh, discussion - about the finalists? We've invited three friends to talk about their favorites. Kara Perez from BravelyGo.co, Eric Rosenberg of Personal Profitability podcast and blog fame, and Robert Farrington from The College Investor blog join in the fun. We'll pick through about half of the categories and share some of our favorites. If you're interested at all in personal finance media, today is a great show for you to learn about new blogs, video and podcasts for your reading, viewing, and listening pleasure.
If you want to make money, reading and understanding other people can be a huge key to success. Better yet? Talking to them on their terms instead of your own can ensure that your conversation doesn't get lost in unnecessary noise. New York Times bestselling author Gretchen Rubin joins us to talk about the four tendencies. People tend to speak and think in one of four ways, and Gretchen shares how you can quickly turn your discussion toward these tendencies to facilitate easier and more effective discussions and communication.
Plus, in our headlines segment, we discuss a cool new company that's asking people to participate in the sharing economy in exchange for down payment help on a house. Would you take part? We'll explain it on today's show. Also, we'll tackle things clients say that make financial advisors cringe. Do things YOU say make the list?
We'll of course have more from the world of financial planning, throw out the Haven Life line to a lucky listener, score with some of Doug's delightful trivia, and more.
Huge thanks to Roofstock (check out their massive real estate database) and MagnifyMoney.com (when you're comparing financial tools like credit cards and savings accounts) for helping us with today's show. They're awesome companies and if you're not using them, I'm not sure you know what you're missing!

How can you earn more? What if you were more awesome at your job? Host of the hit podcast How To Be Awesome At Your Job, Pete Mockaitis, joins us in the basement to talk workplace best practices. We haven't done a top five episode in some time, so we're going to count down Pete's five favorite messages that guests of his show have shared. We'll talk about everything from productivity to planning, and TONS of ways to excel at your job on today's podcast!
In our headline segment, we share a recent survey from HealthPocket.com asking, "How much can you afford out-of-pocket for health care?" The answer will amaze you. We also tackle the recent step down of the Equifax CEO. What does that have to do with your money? Well, we share some tips if your job goes away AND also crack a few password jokes....
We'll also throw out the Haven Life Line to JiEun, who wonders whether the Stacking Benjamins courses are only geared for people in the USA (spoiler: it depends on the course). Plus we'll answer a letter from Wiggles, who wonders out loud why people worry so much about penalties on 529 plans.
Special thanks to M1Finance and Big Picture Retirement podcast for sponsoring our show! We couldn't do any of this without the support of these awesome companies.

Named Best Personal Finance Podcast by Bankrate.com and Kiplinger — and the only podcast the Plutus Awards retired from competition after winning twice — The Stacking Benjamins Show is personal…
Hosts Joe Saul-Sehy (former 16-year financial advisor, ex-WXYZ-TV “Money Man”) and Josh “OG” Bannerman, CFP (Certified Financial Planner, Bannerman Wealth) sit around the card table in Joe’s mom’s half-finished basement in Texarkana and talk money with the smartest guests in personal finance, investing, and behavioral economics. As Fast Company wrote, the show “strikes a great balance of fun and functional.”
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: expert guests, real headlines, listener questions, and Doug’s trivia. Topics include investing, retirement planning, budgeting, real estate, behavioral finance, taxes, and financial independence — for anyone who wants to be smarter about money without being talked down to.
