We've already covered why families are, generally speaking, dysfunctional. In this Episode, we explore how to deal with any or every family situation so that, for starters, you look after yourself (you shouldn't have to be reminded but you are the most important person in your life).
We explore that tactics that we need to use that, instead of becoming the Clown in the Circus or Normal Crazy Family madness, you become an interested onlooker - one that knows exactly what you want out of any and every situation.
Does this sound selfish? Not at all, until you fix your own oxygen mask, you can't help anyone else with theirs. But, when you do, you'd be surprised what might transpire. No wonder I regularly hear from Program Owners that they "surprise" or "amaze" themselves or good things feel "as if they just happen".
It's all about state of mind and understanding the kind of outcomes you would prefer and the kind of relationships you would prefer to have.
OK. All that said, there's something very special, with a Big Big Bonus at the end of this week's episode. You need to listen through and take (a little effortless) action.
So many people have asked me to record an episode about what could be described as normal crazy families. Indeed, over the last nearly 27yrs, so many clients have needed assistance in navigating the everyday madness of it all.
But, before we talk about solutions, we need to understand the origins of the problem. And that's what this Episode is about.
Where do the roots of resentment take hold? Where are the seeds of self-sabotage sown? How does the subtle erosion of the field of dreams take place?
As always, the episode is peppered (and salted!) with real-life anecdotes that, on the face of it, can seem insignificant. But a throwaway remark by a parent which they'll forget five minutes later, will be remembered by the impressionable child five decades later.
So, buckle up for this two-parter and we'll dole out the solutions next week.
It's only natural to get impatient, frustrated and downhearted. As we strive to achieve our goals and objectives, it's only natural to fear that we'll never get there. It's only natural because we all have ample evidence that falling short or failing is the normal way of experiencing life.
And therein lies the only issue with which you have to deal: normal.
Everything that I've just mentioned only happens if you continue to use your mind normally.
When you use your mind differently, everything changes. When you stop your self-defeating thoughts from blocking your experience of your life in the here and now - and by that I actually mean when you become present, when you turn up to your own life, you start taking right action - doing the right things, in the right way, at the right time.
As many many clients and Program Owners have repeatedly told me, you start "surprising yourself", you start "amazing yourself".
And that amazement turns to awe when you see the fruits of your abnormal actions and how they bring about what you want from your life.
The key thing in all this is really simple: when you "get out of your own way" your energy merges with universal energy and... the universe provides. And the universe is never late!
Yes, there's a Normal Crazy Person living with you. They're inside your head, have been your traveling companion, got you to where you are. But what got you to where you are won't get you to where you want to go. Full stop!
We encourage this Normal Crazy Person (aka The Conceptual Self) to derail us every day because we use our Automatic Pilot every day - I explain just how this happens in this week's episode.
So, it is inevitable that we "fall off the horse"... every day.
But, falling off the horse is an opportunity to get back up, dust yourself off and start over. Losing your mind is an opportunity to realise that you've lost your mind and, in the process, find it... truly.
So let's be thankful for the fact that we stumble and fall. Let's embrace the opportunity to learn a little more about who we really are, go a little further and discover who we might really be and what we can truly achieve.
This episode is twinned with #94 (last week's) where we talked about the so-called Two-Piece Jigsaw - the two steps required to live your life your way, starting straight away.
This week, we learn how the first piece of the jigsaw feeds the second, enabling you develop an understanding of the kind of life your heart desires - and innate understanding that you already have, it's just that your thinking mind has been hiding it from you.
As we voyage through this episode I allay one of the primary fears that people express to me as they progress... the fear that they will set their mind off in the wrong direction because they don't know what they want - they might think that they know but that would be the rock you'd perish on.
One more thing, in this episode you'll learn about the so-called Thousand Piece Jigsaw - but don't be alarmed, you only need the four corner pieces and you don't even need to know the big picture!!
There are only two steps that you need to take to change your life. Online Program owners will be familiar with what I call The Two-Piece Jigsaw.
In this episode we're going into the practical details of the first piece of the jigsaw - the one thing that you must to do start changing your life - and it will start changing your life straight away.
We're talking about meditation. And, I'm explaining why meditation is so life-changing and how to meditate.
You'll discover practical ways to meditate anywhere, everywhere, anytime and, in particular, any time you actually need to press what I describe as The Reset Button to turn yourself on.
Ultimately, that's what meditation does for you: it turns you on, tunes you in to the here and now where your life is actually taking place in real time.
Ready for some practical baby steps?
Have you ever had a flash of the kind of experiences you'd love to have in your life? Have these kind of things, from time to time, occurred to you?
These are messages, not from beyond but from within - they are intuitions or insights from the part of you that knows.
In this episode we explore exactly how we can allow ourselves lead us forward to the kind of life that our thinking minds thinks is "unrealistic" - the kind of life we think we don't deserve, the kind of life that our thinking mind simply couldn't see how it could happen.
But you don't need to know the how, the what or the when - you only need to know the why.
This week's episode explains it all and gives you a blueprint for how to let what's inside come to the surface of your understanding and, then, your experience.
But beware - there is a final word of warning in this week's episode!
Yes, that's right - in this episode we're exploring the exact how - exactly what you need to do to live your life to the full right here and now.
We explore what "living life to the full" actually means in practice and what you can expect from and of your life right here and now.
You will learn how to let the past go - actually, as I say, simply "dissipate and evaporate". You will learn to accomplish and achieve what is best for you - not what you think you want.
And you'll discover an old friend... the "flame within".
And, as always, we're talking practical things that you can - that you must - do to effortlessly enable yourself fly.
And, you know what, there's a (very strong) hint in the title of this Podcast as to the key thing you need to do. Here you learn how.
We all have decisions to make - in fact every moment of every day, the most fundamental of which is the choice to turn up to our own lives.
But, that aside, this episode actually explores the how to of not just effective decision-making but, more importantly, effective doing - actually taking the action (effortlessly) that you've decided to take.
This is a million miles removed from how the normal mind thinks, rethinks, dithers, obstructs, gets in your own way and... stops you changing anything in your life.
Until you change how you use your mind you will not change anything in your life. Full stop.
Luckily (although, actually, luck doesn't enter into it), science now knows exactly what we can do - anyone can do - and that includes you - to effortlessly make the right choices and decisions, in real time, and implement them. And that's effortless too.
In essence, what you've actually got to do is get out of your own way.
This episode covers the whole scope of your life up to right now - from even before you were born.
We explore how, when we use our minds normally, we are bounded by misconceptions about what is and isn't "realistic"; how we grew up with the mistaken notion that we might be undeserving and, most importantly, how we can divest ourselves of those imaginary shackles and start tuning ourselves into the world as it really is, you as you really are and... creating the life that you would love to live.
Along the way, we touch on topics that include (obviously) psychology and neuroscience - but this week's episode ventures into parenting, religion, education and a world of norms and conformity (not the real world!!).
So, buckle up and get ready to sit yourself down at, as I say right at the end of this episode, life's great banquet.
