Hey everybody, it's Dr. Sam and I want to welcome you to another EyeClarity podcast. So I want to revisit a topic today called dry eye syndrome, you know, more and more people are suffering from dry eye, you were on our screen so much that our eyes are getting more dried out. And people are having more painful situations. Their eyes are taped shut in the morning when they wake up. Or they feel like there's a rock in their eye when they're blinking. People are suffering the chronic eyelid conditions like meibomian gland dysfunction. Well, in the past, I've talked about things like thyroid issues, not getting enough fats and oils being exposed to blue light. But today I want to talk about the relationship between vitamin A, which is a fat-soluble vitamin, and dry eye syndrome.



There's a trend that I see where at least in my community, people eat very consciously. And so vitamin A sources include things like fatty fish, egg yolks, butter, or they're taking a supplement cod liver oil. And they say to me, you know, Dr. Sam, I'm still suffering dry eye syndrome. So what's the deal? Well, if you get enough vitamin A into your body, and you really have to get these through animal products, certainly there's what we call pre-vitamin A, which sources of those include things I talked about, like the green leafy vegetables, parsley, kale, and those are pre vitamins that pre-vitamin A is that actually convert to an active form, so we can absorb it, but the keyword is absorbed. And if you are getting into vitamin A, and you still are having either eyelid issues eyelid inflammation, or dry eye syndrome, then it has to do with a lack of vitamin A absorption. And we start looking at the gallbladder because the gallbladder produces bile.



And bio is super important in helping us absorb vitamin A. So one of the protocols I recommend is after a meal, take some bile salts. And this will help you absorb your vitamin A better. And you'll be surprised after a couple of days, your dry eye is going to go away. Your eyelids are going to feel better, they're going to work better. It may even dry up some of your skin and it'll improve your night vision. So this little wrinkle of adding bile salts to your supplementation could be a breakthrough in your ability to reduce dry eye. So it's short but sweet. I want to thank you for tuning in today.
