  • Caddyshack (1980)
Part two of our sports comedy pairing features the film ESPN claimed might be the funniest sports comedy ever! Directed by Harold Ramis (his first time in the chair), 1980's "Caddyshack" follows (sort-of) the story of caddie Danny Noonan (Michael O'Keefe) who works at Bushwood Country Club. After normally caddying for resident golfing semi-pro Ty Webb (Chevy Chase), Danny volunteers to caddie for the snobby Judge Elihu Smalls (Ted Baxter) in the hopes of earning the coveted Caddie Scholarship. While the unstable groundskeeper Carl Spackler (Bill Murray) hunts a particularly pernicious gopher intent on destroying the golf course, the Judge must deal with a newcomer, Al Czervik (Rodney Dangerfield) whose irreverent attitude and loud mouth offends all the blue-bloods in the club. Throw in a love triangle between Danny, his girlfriend and co-worker at the club Maggie O'Hoolihan (Salah Halcomb) and rich girl Lacey Underall (Cindy Morgan), and you end up with a cult favorite that, despite its age, still stands up as one of the funniest golf movies in film history. Plus, the trio announce which two films starring veteran actor and superstar Sam Neill, who passed away in July of 2026, will make up their next pairing.

  • Slap Shot (1977)
Sports comedies are the topic of discussion for this pairing, starting with the original hockey-comedy! Directed by George Roy Hill, 1977's "Slap Shot" tells the story of the Charlestown Chiefs, a struggling minor-league hockey team, under the guidance of player, and coach, Reggie Dunlop (Paul Newman). When it's announced that the local mill will be closing its doors, the future looks pretty bleak for the Chiefs. After the general manager Joe McGrath (Strother Martin) hires a trio of goons known as the Hanson Brothers, the game becomes ultra-violent. Unfortunately, this effect becomes very popular with the audience, and the entire team jumps on-board, save for the team's top-scorer, Ned Braden (Michael Ontkean), who refuses to join in the beatings. As the end of what will likely be their last season fast approaches, will the Chiefs' season end with a bang or a whimper? Also starring Jennifer Warren, Jerry Houser, Brad Sullivan, and Melinda Dillon.

  • Why Horror? (2014)
The second horror documentary of the pairing looks at the phenomenon of horror itself and why some people are drawn so strongly to the genre. Directed by Nicolas Kleiman and Rob Lindsay, 2014's "Why Horror?" tries to answer that very question in a variety of ways. From brain measurements in an MRI machine, to sociological experiments, to discussions with experts, to answers from master horror writers and directors, writer and host Tal Zimmerman looks back at a life filled with a fascination for horror (and some help from a film beloved by the hosts of this podcast) and tries to figure out how he ended up living the life of a true horror film fan, even when no one around him shared his adoration for that cinematic genre. And the trio reveals which two sports comedies will entertain them in the next pairing.

  • Video Nasties: Moral Panic, Censorship, and Videotape (2010)
Horror documentaries are the focus of this pairing, starting with an examination of a modern-day McCarthyism happening in Great Britain in the 1980s! Directed by Jake West, 2010's "Video Nasties: Moral Panic, Censorship and Videotape" tells the tale of the birth of home video, and the wild west of horror films appearing direct-to-video with no ratings, no oversight, and legions of fans! This documentary examines the start of the phenomenon, the overreaction of the zealous defenders of public decency (or so they portrayed themselves), and the inconsistencies inherent in their "cure" for the epidemic of "video nasties."

  • Earth Girls are Easy (1988)
Warping ahead five years, the second film in the pairing suggested by our Patreon family member, Tim, it's a completely different kind of love story! Directed by Julien Temple, 1988's "Earth Girls are Easy" follows another valley girl, Valerie (Geena Davis), who is in a passionless relationship with local doctor Ted (Charles Rocket) when a UFO lands in her swimming pool, containing three furry extraterrestrial dudes on the lookout for hot women: Zeebo (Damon Wayans), Wiploc (Jim Carrey), and their leader Mac (Jeff Goldblum). After making first contact, Valerie takes them in and decides to help them look more human, enlisting the aid of her friend and fellow cosmetician Candy (Julie Brown, in her on-screen debut) to de-fur-i-fy them. Sparks begin to fly between Valerie and Mac, while Zeebo and Wiploc make friends with Valerie's pool man Woody (Michael McKean) and end up getting up to all sorts of mischief. And just when it looks like things will turn out for the best, Ted resurfaces and attempts to rekindle things with Valerie! Who will she end up with? Will Zeebo and Wiploc find true love, or even a real date? Will Woody get his beloved truck back? All these questions (and more) will be answered before the credits roll! Also starring Larry Linville and Rick Overton! Plus, the trio reveal which two horror documentaries Jeff has chosen for the next pairing!

  • Valley Girl (1983)
It's 80s to the max, we mean like... duh! Suggested by Patreon family member Tim, it's two 80s comedies that are so 80s, you'll need a refresher course in modernity afterwards! First up, directed by Martha Coolidge, its the 80s version of the Romeo and Juliet story in 1983's "Valley Girl" but, instead of the Montagues and the Capulets, it's the Valley versus Punk Rock! Seminal valley girl Julie (Deborah Foreman) is on the outs with her valley guy boyfriend Tommy (Michael Bowen) when she spots a hot surfer dude at the beach and becomes infatuated. Unfortunately, the surfer is actually a Hollywood Hills punk rocker named Randy (Nicholas Cage). But despite their very different backgrounds, they both fall for each other almost immediately. Randy's best friend Fred (Cameron Dye) encourages him to track the girl down and date her regardless! But Julie's friends Loryn (Elizabeth Daily), Stacey (Heidi Holicker), and Suzi (Michelle Meyrink), are not at all supportive, pushing Julie to get back together with Tommy. If you know Romeo and Juliet, you have some idea how the story goes, but the ending doesn't follow the Shakespearean tragedy with 100% accuracy, so it has a happier ending. Also starring Richard Sanders, Colleen Camp, and Frederic Forrest!

  • The Wild Bunch (1969)
The second film in our pairing of revisionist westerns moves us ahead 17 years to 1969 where legendary director Sam Peckinpah helmed to telling of a story about a gang of outlaws at the ends of their careers. Written by Walon Green, 1969's "The Wild Bunch" follows career outlaws Pike (William Holden) and Dutch (Ernest Borgnine) as they attempt to rob a bank dressed as World War I army soldiers. After the heist doesn't quite go as planned, the gang finds themselves in Mexico, making a deal with General Mapache (Emilio Fernandez) who is fighting against the legendary Pancho Villa. All the while, they're being pursued by a ragtag group of bounty hunters hired by a corrupt railroad agent (Albert Dekker) and led by former Pike-gang-member Deke Thornton (Robert Ryan). While the heist they're hired by Mapache to pull off goes reasonably well, the situation after becomes something that Pike simply can't stomach, leading to a major confrontation the likes of which no one had put on film before! Also starring Edmond O'Brien, Warren Oates, Jaime Sanchez, Ben Johnson, Strother Martin, and L. Q. Jones. Plus, the guys reveal which two 80s films, requested by Patreon family member Tim J, will make up the next pairing!

  • High Noon (1952)
It's a pair of revisionist westerns, chosen by Chad, that make up this pairing! We start with an allegory for what was happening in Hollywood in the 1950s. Directed by Fred Zinnemann and written by Carl Foreman (who would be blacklisted shortly after the film was released), 1952's "High Noon" tells the tale of retiring town marshall Will Kane (Gary Cooper) who, having just married his Quaker fiance Amy Fowler Kane (Grace Kelly in her first cinematic starring role), is about to leave his job and the town behind. Unfortunately, just as he is officially retiring, he receives a telegram that criminal and old foe Frank Miller (Ian MacDonald), who was supposed to be in prison for life, has been released and is on his way back to settle old scores on the noon train. This begins an hour and a half in which the true character of the Marshall, his new wife, his old flame Helen Ramirez (Katy Jurado), and the townsfolk of Hadleyville is revealed, and it's mostly uncomplimentary. Also starring Thomas Mitchell, Lloyd Bridges, Otto Kruger, Lon Chaney Jr., and Harry Morgan!

  • Brokeback Mountain (2005)
The second film in our salute to Pride Month 2026 is an Academy Award winner for directing, writing, and music! Helmed by the famous director Ang Lee, 2005's "Brokeback Mountain" follows Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) as two downtrodden cowboys looking for work. They're hired by sheep farmer Joe Aguirre (Randy Quaid) to tend to a flock high up on Brokeback Mountain, with one tending camp and the other sleeping some two hours away (by horseback) with the sheep. As the season passes, Jack and Ennis find themselves drawn to one another, leading to them giving in to their attraction. After that season, however, Joe refuses to re-hire Jack, and Ennis gets married to Alma (Michelle Williams) and has two children. But the attraction doesn't disappear, and the two find ways to be in each other's company, even as Jack becomes involved with, marries, and has a son with farm equipment heiress Lureen Newsome (Anne Hathaway). Ultimately, Alma divorces Ennis and he and Jack find their lives making it more and more difficult for them to see each other. Also starring Dave Trimble, Tom Carey, and Kate Mara. Plus, the trio disclose what two alternate westerns Chad has in store for everyone in the next pairing!

  • Boys Don't Cry (1999)
Buddy chose this pairing to honor Pride Month 2026, and we're starting with a movie that packs a gut-punch! Directed and co-written by Kimberly Peirce, 1999's "Boys Don't Cry" is based on a true story. In 1993, a trans man named Brandon Teena (Hillary Swank) moved from Lincoln, Nebraska to the Falls City region of Richardson County, Nebraska. He was befriended by local bad-boys John Lotter (Peter Sarsgaard) and Marvin Thomas "Thom" Nissen (Brendan Sexton III). After moving in with her new friend Candace (Alicia Goranson), Brandon began dating Candace's friend Lana Tisdel (Chloë Sevigny). The film is very frank about how Brandon lives his life as a man and the lengths he will go to in order to convince everyone around him that he is a man, even though he is biologically still female. Unfortunately, some secrets just cannot be kept, and when Brandon is arrested for forging checks, Lana comes to bail him out and questions why he is in the women's section of the jail. Several lies by Brandon some time, but in the end the truth comes out, as it always does, and the results are catastrophic! Also starring Alison Folland, Rob Campbell, Matt McGrath, and Jeannetta Arnette.
