If you haven't listened to the previous episode, 'Aneesa's Story', go back and take a listen before you join us here, it'll make a lot more sense! This is the After Thoughts section in which Kyle and Luke discuss what a wonderful and inspirational story Aneesa brought to the show. To start life that way, to be given the slimmest of chances of making it out alive, and to succeed against all the odds, is really the perfect summary of what our podcast is about. Once again, focusing on triumph over trauma. Bravo!

Simply astonishing this one. Born is South Africa and now living in Cape Town, Aneesa tells us her amazing story about being 'born from sin' (through prostitution) and given up by her mother as a baby. As a toddler she was living in a house with prostitutes, drug dealers, and gang members with a number of different people looking after her. She of course, never knew her Father. In one of the most honest and inspirational stories we have heard so far, Aneesa tells us how, as a child, she began working and saving money, so she was able to get herself an education and make something of her life. The trauma and rejection of her past would manifest itself of a huge lack of self worth, and Aneesa talks about how she began to love herself, and realize that she too was deserving of happiness and a fulfilled life. Wow.

It serves as a reminder to all of us, that we can be the masters of our own destiny. If you are in an abusive relationship there is help out there, and you can reach out to us or even David if you need someone to talk to, as well as helplines around the country, also listed below.

This story is beyond inspiring, David was in an abusive relationship with a woman who would physically harm him. He was over-weight, and he smoked hundreds of cigarettes a week. To add to all of this, he had children who were in the middle of this abusive relationship (thankfully not physically harmed) and his sister was terminally ill with Cancer. On this podcast, we discuss trauma recovery, and we focus on stories of hope, courage, strength and most importantly triumph over trauma. Listen to David tell us about the moment he decided to change everything. He realized that he was in charge of his life, it was only him who could make a difference. He felt like he didn't deserve happiness, until he realized that he absolutely did. TRIGGER / CONTENT WARNING: Domestic Abuse, Domestic Violence, Addiction.

This is an amazing and mesmerizing episode. Tabitha was born into a 'cult' and realized into her teen years that she needed to get out. As with many 'cults' she was frozen out when she left, and with no support system, she needed to fend for herself. Her parents remained, which made things even harder for her. Once free of the chains, she struggled with mental health issues as she began to process the trauma, and things were to get even harder when her best friend died by suicide when she was just 18. Tabitha offers hope and advice for those who are struggling and our podcast, as usual, aims to shine a spotlight on these stories and how we can unite, and take comfort on other peoples survival from such extraordinary events.
TRIGGER WARNING: TOPIC INCLUDES ADDICTION AND SUICIDE.

Kyle is back for this 'after thoughts' section, where we discuss the previous episode, Adam's Story. If you didn't listen to it, go back and have a listen! Adam went through alcohol addiction, recovery, love, heartbreak, and then the big one, a one in five million disease that rendered him totally paralyzed. Luke and Kyle discuss the strength and resilience Adam showed to recover, and the amazing appetite for knowledge he has to learn about himself and others. His story was amazing, and inspiring.

This one is utterly amazing and simply terrifying all at once! Adam begins this story telling us of the total heartbreak he went through when the love of his life died suddenly of a heart attack, completely out of the blue. As Adam slowly came to terms with this loss, he decided to fulfill a life long dream and move from the US, to London, and began packing up his things ready for life's next adventure. He couldn't possibly have known what was in store for him next though! One morning, double vision would turn to tingling, then loss of feeling, an inability to speak, and eventual, complete paralysis.. Hear about this terrifying ordeal, and the slow, and inspirational road to recovery! Thank you Adam, you are amazing!

This is the after thoughts section for the previous podcast episode, Beth's Story. If you didn't listen to it go back and come meet us here afterwards! Luke and Kyle chat about Beth, her son and the unfathomable trauma they went through together. Grief is a really tough one and a topic we have discussed on a few of our previous episodes. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and we are just happy that Beth and Preston have each other. What an amazing story.

TRIGGER WARNING: Drug addiction and suicide.
Of all the episodes we have had so far on our Podcast journey, this may be one of the heaviest, so we do recommend listener discretion. Please know that we have kept in the whole story, so we can focus on the strength, courage and hope that comes with going through an experience like this. Our guest Beth, realized that her partner, and father of her young son, was in trouble when she found bottles of Opioids hidden around the house. After another deployment to Afghanistan, his drug use would get so bad that they would separate. His visits to their son would be fewer and further between and it became noticeable he was high each time, to the point that she felt it was unsafe. Eventually, and heartbreakingly, the opioids would turn to heroin, and his story would end in Suicide. We hear about the tragic moments when Beth had to explain to their young son what had happened, and how they started on the journey of grief together, It's utterly devastating, inspiring, and incredibly humbling. Hang in there until the end as we hear how things are now, just 3 years on. Wow.
