What To Do After Getting Negative Feedback

Have you ever received negative feedback? 

Or even a bad review? 

And you weren’t sure what to do with that information? 

Today we have 16 points on how to handle feedback.

  1. Remaining calm 
  2. Take the time to reflect and evaluate before you react 
  3. Reminder: perception is reality 
  4. Do not argue 
  5. Feedback is a really, really good thing - even if we don’t agree with the feedback being given
  6. Look at the data 
  7. Ask a lot of questions 
  8. Learn
  9. Honestly ask yourself, what are the truths in the negative feedback you received? 
  10. Asking for help if you need it 
  11. Asking yourself and others what your blindspots are 
  12. Create a plan to improve 
  13. Set clear expectations and goals moving forward 
  14. Set follow up progress conversations 
  15. Reminder: if you need to vent, try and make sure it’s not with work colleagues 
  16. Reminder: when we are getting feedback, we can get better or we can get bitter
