  • #83 Turning your passion into a career, mental health, and making work work for you with Fiona Thomas @fionalikestoblog

Have you ever wanted to turn something you really enjoy into a career.

But you just don't think it will make you enough money.

So you put it to the back of your head.

Well this is what my guest Fiona Thomas did ,and today we talk about how being diagnosed with depression resulted in her becoming a freelance author and writer.

Fiona always enjoyed writing but never thought she could turn it into a career. When she was out of work due to her mental health she started a blog which grew as she started to talk about the things she was struggling with.

This turned into her writing for magazines on the topic and gradually moving into writing full time, instead of just a side hustle.

She has also published two books "Depression in a Digital Age" and "Out of office" and continues to write, and also help clients to follow their passion of writing too.

Fiona talks openly about her mental health struggles, and things she has done to keep on top of it in this podcast..

She also gave what is possibly the best piece of advice that this podcast has recieved so far!

  • #82 You're not a stupid fat b**ch! Why language is important

‘Whatever you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right’ Henry Ford

How we think about ourselves and how we talk about ourselves is very important It can be the difference in whether your succeed or not

Because our thoughts and beliefes can become our identity

And once they become our identity it can be very hard to change

But that also doesn't mean it's impossible to change either

You need to believe that you can And how you talk to yourself when you hit the hard times is paramount to success

But also remember if you find yourself talking someone else down Someone who is trying to change

    Ask yourself why that is?

  • #81 I once weighed 46kg! How photos don't tell the full story

Do you ever looks at old photos of yourself and think "i wish i still was that weight"

or maybe its a model or influencer that you are comparing yourself to

Do you ever think about what was happening at the time of the photo? Was it a good time for you or when you think about it was it really a bad time and weightloss was a result of stress anxiety or something else?

Maybe on the flip side it was a time that you were more active and made more effort with food choices and this was why you looked that way.

Today I delve into this and talk about my owns story of when I weight 46kg and how at the time I thought it was great but looking back I wasn't actually in a good place

Hopefully this story will help anyone currently struggling with issues like this and remind them that weight fluctuation is normal as, after all, we are human.

As it is that first few weeks of January, I think its the best time to talk about this while everyone is in their "new year, new me" phase

Is this something that you do?

Remember if you are really struggling with body image or disordered eating please seak out a professional to help you overcome this.

  • #80 Do's and don'ts of joining a gym in January

Its the first week in January, the month where everyone decides "to get back to it"

We've all heard the term "New year, New me" and they gyms will be filled of people on a mission this month

So this is why I recorded this episodes

I tried to cover some of the most common mistakes I see people make when they are joining a gym in January

I mixed the do's and don'ts together so it's not just a list of "do this" and followed by a list of "don't do that"

I think the tips here will equally be helpful for those who are starting back in the gym or those who are starting for the first time to help you stay consistent with the gym

Let me know if you found these heplful!

  • #78 Reflecting on 2021 and goal setting

As we come to the end on the year its nice to look back on the goals we set at the start of the year

    Or did you set any?

Today I go through a few goals that I set at the start of the year and whether or not I reached them.

I also look at how some weren't really measurable so how can I know when I got to them which I think is a trap that we all can fall into.

Are you planning on setting goals for the coming year?

If so I'd love to hear them!

  • #77 8 things I learned on an 8 week shred

For those of you who follow me on social media, you may have seen the post I did with this title last week.

I felt like I could expand more on this with a podcast so I decided to record it!

    The 8 things include:

    1. Tracking can be a great tool, however it’s not for everyone.

2, You need a lot of time in the day

    3. Don’t shred in winter!

    4. I like having abs but I like food more!

    5. I couldn’t have done this several years ago

    6. You don’t have to be perfect to get results

    7. Training is easier than diet

    8. Having a goal really does make a difference

This is just some of the things that I learned in the 8 weeks and I can say I learned so much more too. I’m so glad I did this and didnt let my ego of “I’m a trainer, I don’t need a programme from someone else” get in the way of it.

If you've any other questions regarding shreds of my experiences feel free to drop me a DM any time!

  • #75 What they don't tell you about pregnancy with @Bexbrame

You may not want to concieve right now but when you do it's pretty straight forward right? Have unprotected sex and just like the movies you will be pregnant the following day.

However just like in many other areas of life, it doesn't always happen like in the movies and this is what Bex came to learn when she and her husband decieved that they wanted to have children.

You may remember Bex from #58 Ditching diet culture, but today she is back for a round two interview to talk all about her experiences around getting pregnant.

She talked about how she assumed that she just came off the pill and then would get pregnant once they had sex just like many of us but this was not the case.

It was a full 5 months before her cycle came back something that can be very common if you've been on the pill a long time.

After that she suffered two miscarraiges when she did fall pregnant which also is a lot more common than you think, 1/4 pregnancies result in miscarraige.

Bex talks openly about how this took a toll on her physical and mental health and really wants to help raise awareness to those who may be struggling that it's is normal and not your fault.

This episode is completely about Bex and her experience and neither of us our medical proffessionals so if there is anything that you are worried about we do recommend you consult your doctor.

Bex also mentioned two charities that she found helpful when going through this experience and recommended them for anyone who is experiening something similar.

  • #74 How to love yourself or at least become body neutral

You've probably heard of body positivity but today I wanted to talk a lil bit about body neutrality

It can be so hard to just accept ourselves and feel good about ourselves when the whole world is teaching us the opposite.

Today I talk about the different tactics company's use to sell you something.

How beauty standards are every changing so how can we keep up with them how you need to look out for filters and other ways of making people appear perfect on camera.

I also talk a bit about cellulite and how it's not actaully real (mad I know) as it is a great example of how the beuaty industry created another thing for us to hate about ourselves in order to sell us a product.

Remember you don't have to love your body every day and there will be days that you may not feel amazing about it. Thats normal, it just means your human so instead of beating yourself up for this happenening try acknowledging the feelings and finding our where they come from.
