Do you do shift work? Has it affected your eating habits over time?
Today I talk to Steve Griffen, about how afer joining the Guards, and working ever changing shifts led to him putting on a massive amount of weight (156kg at his heaviest). After seeing a picture of himself on holiday's, he decided that it was time to make a change and with the help of coach and friend Paul Dermody (who was also on this podcast see #49). He has lost over 50kg.
We talk about how he previously tried all the fad diets, blaming himself when it didn't work, and that how it was the little things that made the biggest difference Not crazy workout plans or crash diets, but planning his food and doing simple things like walking were what made the biggest differences.
We also talk about how discipline and planning ahead around his shifts is the real key to success when on a weightloss journey, and that you need to find something that works for you and your shifts.
He is also a cancer surviver, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of testicular cancer when he was 20 and it was likely that if he didn't go to the doctor when he did, he would not have made his 21st birthday and since then has worked on raising awareness about cancer and not ignoring the signs!
