  • #52 Endometriosis, Hormone health and why the pill is NOT the answer with Orla O'Flaherty @orla_naturopath_herbalist

You may have heard the term endometriosis in the last few years but do you know what it is? I surely didn't nor the extent of how it can affect women around their periods or most of their cycle! Today I speak to Orla O'Flahery. Orla is an herbalist and natrupath based in Galway and she herself suffers from endometriosis.  We talk about her own story and diagnosis and how she was put on the pill to treat the condition, however it only masks it, so when she came off it at 23 all her symptoms came back. This led her down the path of natural medicine to where she is today, helping numerous women with all kinds of hormonal conditions get back in balance! We also speak about the stigma around periods and how its time for us to be more comfortable with the term, as it is something that so many people have for a good portion of their lives! She also has a lil rant about the pill, and how we need to know what we are signing up for when being perscribed it, but also not saying anyone should go off it! Disclaimer always seek a professionals advice when looking into herbal medicine as there can be other affects with each herb you are taking and Orla is fully trained and gives only personalised tonics to her clients!

  • #50 Solo chats on building your confidence and constantly working on yourself

50 episodes! Can you believe it? I certainly can't When we started the podcast last year I never thought I'd be here recording a solo ep for ep 50! Its been a wild ould 18 months, going from originally recording as a duo, to solo podcasting to hosting weekly interviews and I must say I've loved every minute of it.

Today I talk a lil bit about the podcasts beginings, how having someone with your if you want to start something new can really help and how working on yourself is an everyday thing. Self doubt and negative self talk will always be there but if you work on it constantly you will overcome it! Lots of waffling and rambling in this ep so I hope it made sense and you enjoy it!

  • #49 How small changes lead to big results, why you have to dig deeper and why you should want more with @pauldermodypt

Today I talk to Paul Dermody. Paul is an online coach who predominantly works with people in a very overweight catagory. We talk about how its not gym programmes but habit changes that get people the results as many of his clients have dropped 40 plus pounds wihtout even stepping into a gym, and that the weightloss process is actually rather underwhelming compared to what people think it will be.

We also talk about how there is no good or bad foods but there is a good or bad diet and how it is better to add more nutritious food to your diet rather than cut stuff out when trying to improve your diet. Paul also uses money analagies to describe calorie intake regularly which I found is a great way of doing it because like food, we always need money!

This episode was very conversational and we even had a lil chat about learniing languages and a mini rant about how people need to get tougher and not just accent being ok where you are.

  • #46 Eat your carbs! The differences between male and female when it comes to performance with @weeckolkel

Did you know that women are different to men? You've probably noticed alright, but what you may not know is we are not just smaller men when it comes to training for performance in sport. Our cycles dictate everything from when it is best to push for higher targets all the way to what we should be eating to fuel those workouts.

Today I speak to Cathy Kolbohn. Cathy is a nutritionist with the fitclinic and also has a background in sports science. We talk about the considerations women need to take when it comes to fueling and training around their cycles, how easing off during what she calls 'weak week' is important and how eating more can make a big difference

We also talk a bit at the start about an autoimmune diesease she suffers from called hashimoto's. This affects her thyroid and we discuss the things she did to help manage it without relying on medication.

Really informative episode for women who both train for performance and who train just for bodycompostiion!
