You've heard of taking a time-out!
What about taking a time-in?
In this 3rd video of your 5-video series about self-awareness, Dr. Kori Propst shares with you the powerful strategy of a time-in for getting to know yourself.
The time-in is your chance to observe and begin to notice the thoughts your mind makes rather than blindly believe the thoughts the mind makes. It's like viewing the mind as a movie marquee, the words scrolling by. We might notice the thoughts themselves and the words we use, but we can also get acquainted with the types of thoughts. Perhaps they're blaming, judgmental, harsh, or comparing. Do they remind you of someone or another experience you've had?
Challenging times are a good time to practice a time-in.
Neutral times can be good spaces for practice as well. Where does the mind go when you'd describe yourself as just "fine"? What are the thoughts themselves and what tone or type are they?
And then, how about times when you're experiencing joy or pleasure? What are the thoughts and what are they like? How do they sound? Maybe you don't really have any and the mind is more clear. Often it's during challenging and uncomfortable moments when we notice the mind running amok and being the hooligan!
Do you take time-ins?
Tomorrow I'll share the second half of the time-in practice!
