Take the Stairs!
You've heard it before, but maybe in a different context!
Yesterday Dr. Kori Propst shared a simple strategy for TAKING A TIME-IN and gave you a few ideas for WHAT TO DO during your time-in. She asked you to use the time-in to observe and practice noticing the thoughts your mind makes rather than blindly believe the thoughts the mind makes. It's like viewing the mind as a movie marquee, the words scrolling by.
In this 4th video of your 5-video series about self-awareness, she shares with you the second step of your time-in, TAKING THE STAIRS!
"Take them where?" you're asking.
Downstairs! We want to gently walk our attention down from the thoughts...pause in the heart...and into the belly. The idea is to practice feeling the body. We live so much of our lives in the attic, we've got to visit the basement more often!
You've probably heard the term "embodiment." Well, literally means to inhabit the body. Take the Stairs below the neck. Feel what's inside. When we practice doing this we get in touch with the emotions we experience. We practice dropping the story that is scrolling across the marquee of the mind. And dropping the object of those stories! And when we take the stairs and pay the body a visit, we find that the contractedness or tension may dissipate.
By the way, did you know that mind wandering (you know, all the cray that you let your mind indulge in) actually makes you miserable? Studies show that an idle mind makes for an unhappy person. I share why in this video!
