Tonya is back in the South after being away for many years and reflects upon the importance of environment in personal development. With deep gratitude for being back home, she admires the beauty of the trees in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the lessons that served her well growing up in the South.

My mom did the best with what she had and she really taught me a beautiful lesson that I didn't realize was so important until later when I noticed that a lot of people around me had a lot of fear around using their best and for me I was like this is just what we do.

There was a level of expectation as to how you treated each other and now I realize it's one of the things that I appreciate about the French culture.  I didn't realize it at the time but ma'am and sir come from the French madame and monsieur.  There is a level of civility and respect for one another and how you communicate and how you address people, how you talk and I think that is a beautiful thing. Quite honestly, it's missing in a large portion of our society today.
