Finding Brave

78: The Top 4 Reasons Professionals Bail On Their Thrilling Dreams

Listen Later

“Really one person’s story is hundreds of thousands of people’s story. Your journey probably has some deep similarities to mine, that we’ve lost sight of who we are and what we’re doing here, and why we’re here, which is to be of service in a way that brings you joy and compensates you beautifully and makes you feel very alive.” - Kathy Caprino

After doing the work to “find brave” in my own life, and transforming my career--from unhappy and chronically ill corporate VP, to marriage and family therapist, then career coach/writer/speaker -- and to doing work that gives my life meaning and joy, I see very clearly that my having lost sight of my most thrilling dreams for my life and future is not something that only I experienced. Working with thousands of professionals in the past 14 years, I connect every day with people who feel exactly as I did 20 years, asking themselves, “Where did my big dream go? And how did it slip away?” I know that this feeling of losing sight of your most thrilling dream for your life and your career is something that just a few professionals feel, but thousands upon thousands all around the world.

To get a quantitative look at how prevalent this challenge is, I launched a survey recently on the 7 most damaging power gaps that keep professionals from thriving in their careers. At the time of this writing, 59% of the respondents indicated that Power Gap 6: Losing Sight of Your Thrilling Dream was a gap they’re struggling with and 24% indicated that this one gap of the 7 resonates most deeply with them.

This episode is dedicated to helping you understand the most common reasons I’ve seen in my coaching work for why people bail on their thrilling dreams. And I offer real-life tips, strategies and solutions for getting back on track to your dream. I also take on Mark Cuban and other naysayers who believe and share that following your passion is a terrible idea that will inevitably make you broke and unhappy. They’re so wrong! But to follow your passion and make a great living from it, certain requirements, steps and actions are necessary. Listen in for those 5 steps, and what to do now to get on a thrilling new path.

If you’re sick and tired of feeling that your work is meaningless (or worse) for you, and you long to get back on track to you ultimate dreams for your life, don’t miss this episode!
