A Chinese university said that it would expel a student because she had had "improper contact with a foreigner" and "damaged national dignity, " after videos circulated online that suggested she had been intimate with a Ukrainian video gamer.

In a recent survey, Japan dropped to 87th in global English proficiency, squarely in the “low proficiency” band. Japan ranks near the bottom of Asian and developed countries alike despite constant reshuffling and refinement of the English educational curriculum in schools and the frequent assertions that English-language skills are needed to compete in the modern economy.

The failure to adopt English is particularly unexpected given that the English language signifies privilege in Japan. Countless advertisements flaunt white foreigners on TV and use English aptitude as the basis for selling products.

Part of the problem is pure linguistics. Japanese is a language isolate. Whereas English has close ties to other Germanic languages (as well as Romance ones), and attenuated ones to the entire Indo-European family, for a Japanese person, learning any foreign tongue entails starting from scratch.

You're driving down a busy highway when a car suddenly swerves into your lane out of nowhere without signaling. "Must be a woman driver" is often muttered in these situations, echoing an age-old stereotype that has stubbornly persisted in our collective consciousness.

But is there any factual basis for this belief, or is it merely a myth?

One of the most compelling arguments against the stereotype that women are bad drivers is the data, which shows that women are involved in fewer motor vehicle accidents compared to men. 

A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) study found that men cause 6.1 million accidents per year, while women cause 4.4 million. Despite the pervasive stereotype, male drivers are involved in nearly 28% more accidents than their female counterparts.

Men are 3.5 times more likely than women to get a ticket for reckless driving behaviors such as speeding, aggressive lane changes, or tailgating. It suggests that men tend to engage in more dangerous driving habits that can lead to accidents.

f(x) debuted in 2009 from one of the oldest and biggest K-Pop labels, SM Entertainment. The group’s name is derived from the mathematical notation of a function: The f stands for flower, while the x is the female chromosome.
