Psychopaths, Sociopaths and Narcissists: What are the similarities and differences?

What is the difference in the psychology of a psychopath, a sociopath and a narcissist (someone with narcissistic personality disorder?

I hear this question from viewers all the time - what is the difference between a narcissist, a psychopath and a sociopath. It starts with genetics and the brain - it's development in early childhood and general brain chemistry - and psychopaths are BORN THAT WAY, while sociopaths BECOME that way due to life circumstances.

Narcissists are people who have no empathy, and who seem to have a sense of entitlement with deep rooted insecurities. In this video, I'll offer definitions and explain the difference between each in detail - no anxiety needed.

A few months ago, I noticed a surprising trend among my readers, viewers and clients: many of them reported having chronic pain and often, fibromyalgia.

I wondered: could fibromyalgia and its "alter-ego" chronic pain be connected to being abused by a narcissist? And you know me – I'm a nerd. I started researching.

The official word in the medical community, from what I can tell, is that the cause of fibromyalgia is unknown and that it exists among people whose brains "process pain differently."

The diagnosis has sometimes been considered controversial, with some people saying it's "not real" or "an imagined condition," but even traditional medicine now acknowledges the condition as a "real" diagnosis.

Still, there's no official test for fibromyalgia, so diagnosis is based on a cluster of symptoms rather than a "positive result," which may account for some of the doubters. Symptoms include: deep tissue pain, fatigue, depression, mood swings and insomnia.

Still, for anyone who has ever experienced the pain and isolation that the condition involves, there's no doubt: fibromyalgia is very real – and it makes your life hard. Even worse is that some doctors may ignore your symptoms and blame them on your imagination, leaving you to deal with your pain unassisted.

So, is fibromyalgia associated with narcissistic abuse?

Can intelligent people be manipulated by gaslighting narcissists?Can an intelligent person be tricked into self-doubt and eventually believing they're crazy and/or not good enough?

If you've ever been manipulated by a narcissist, you probably already know the answer to that question. Of course it can happen. And it does - far too often. Here's why and how.

So let's start out by defining it. What is emotional manipulation, anyway?

To put it simply, emotional manipulation is how others try to change your behavior, thoughts, and feelings through misleading practices. These practices can be harmful to everyone involved.

Some of the difficult people in your life may try to use emotional manipulation to control you. There are various kinds of emotional manipulation, from a child who cries to get what she wants to an adult narcissist who causes everyone around her to be miserable when she doesn't get what she wants.

Do you feel like you're being controlled by someone else? You might be involved with a narcissist.

You might have symptoms of PTSD after the brainwashing you've experienced during a toxic relationshp - not to mention the trauma bonding part of it. In this video, we'll discuss the psychology of gaslighting and how it affects you as a narcissistic supply and a victim of the abuse.

I have never watched the now-infamous vlog called DaddyoFive, but after several viewers reached out to me and asked me to talk about it, here I am with my opinions - and just so you don't have to watch the video if you don't want to, I'll tell you right here: I am never, ever watching it again. It caused me to shake and cry, and I regret having seen it. I definitely think this is a toxic family and that there is evidence of both physical and emotional abuse in the clips inside this video. That is all I'm going to say about it.

Successful reading of body language then requires you to observe clusters of signals and to consider the context.

While it's interesting to compare and contrast IQ and EQ however, it's also important to realize that they are actually related. There is a correlation between IQ and EQ, meaning that someone generally more intelligent may end up being more emotionally intelligent too (though not in every case). This is no doubt because someone intelligent will be better able to predict the actions, emotions and motivations of others. Other studies have shown that intelligent people are more trusting for the same reasons.

This suggests that emotional intelligence can be 'learned' to an extent. While our own emotions might be heavily influenced by our genetics and neurochemistry, learning how others act and increasing our -memory and attention can help us to improve our EQ.

Measurement of emotional intelligent is then also possible in order to get an idea of just how adept any given person is at understanding emotions. Many tests exist however and the practicality of each is something that is fairly controversial – which is a whole topic of its own!
