跳棋Chinese Checkers

Chinese checkers is characterized by its hexagram-shaped board, which can accommodate up to 6 players. The main goal of Chinese checkers is to move all your marbles from your end to the opposite point of the star. Players can move their marbles by "hopping" over a single adjacent marble – one's own or the opponent's – and can continue to hop until there's no more adjacent marble.

七巧板Tangram

The tangram is a dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat polygons which are put together to form shapes. The objective is to replicate a pattern (given only an outline) generally found in a puzzle book using all seven pieces without overlap. It is reputed to have been invented in China sometime around the late 18th century CE and then carried over to America and Europe by trading ships shortly after.

A string figure is a design formed by manipulating string on, around, and using one's fingers or sometimes between the fingers of multiple people. String figures may also involve the use of the mouth, wrist, and feet. The game ends when one of the two players cannot think of any next solution to the current figure or when one player fails to hold the figure with hands.
翻花绳就是用自己的手指或是在多人手指之间翻转绳子从而形成形状。翻花绳也可能会用到嘴、手腕和脚。如果两个玩家中的某一个想不出当前图形的下一个可以翻的形状，或者某个玩家绳子散了，游戏就结束。

弹珠Marble

A marble is a small spherical object often made from glass. These balls vary in size. Marbles can be used for a variety of games called marbles. They are often collected, both for nostalgia and for their aesthetic colors. Players often use their fingers to "shoot" one marble to hit the opponent's marble and can acquire it if it was hit.

Hide-and-seek is a popular children's game in which at least two players conceal themselves in a set environment, to be found by one or more seekers.

踢毽子Shuttlecock

The shuttlecock is made out of rubber or a plastic disk and attached with many feathers. The player's goal is to keep the shuttlecock in the air while kicking it only using the feet repeatedly.

Hopscotch is a popular playground game in which players toss a small object into numbered triangles or a pattern of rectangles outlined on the ground and then hop or jump through the spaces and retrieve the object.

Bamboo dragonfly has a helicopter top axis with a cord wound around it, with a horizontal blade sticking out from the axis. A player would pull the cord and release hands; the bamboo dragonfly will take off vertically in the air like a helicopter.

The pitcher will try to hit the opponent with a beanbag; the one that was hit will be eliminated from the game. The opponent who catches the beanbag either will choose to "add a life" or "save a teammate's life" from eliminations.

The Chinese jump rope resembles more of a giant stretched out rubber band. It is a thin piece of elastic rope that is looped around two pairs of legs. The objective of this game is to hook your legs into the rope to form loops and patterns in a certain sequence. This is often accompanied by a rhyme or song. As each level is completed, the rope is moved higher, making the patterns more difficult to complete.

石头剪刀布Rock paper scissors

Rock paper scissors is a hand game in which players simultaneously form one of three shapes with an outstretched hand. These shapes are "rock" (a closed fist), "paper" (a flat hand), and "scissors" (a fist with the index finger and middle finger extended, forming a V). The rule is illustrated in the picture. Normally, one player wins at the end by beating all players with the right shape.

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has urged further efforts to advance the study of Chinese civilization so its achievements can help the nation firm up cultural confidence and stick to the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
  

Xi called for the efforts on Friday afternoon while presiding over a group study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on a national research program dedicated to tracing the origins of Chinese civilization.
  

Xi said that Chinese civilization is time-honored, extensive and profound, and it is the cultural identity of the Chinese nation, the foundation of contemporary Chinese culture, the cultural bond holding all Chinese around the globe together, and a treasure trove inspiring cultural innovation.

During the group study session, Xi commended the achievements in the study of the national project of tracing the origins of Chinese civilization. The study was launched in 2002 with about 400 scholars across the country in 20 disciplines of natural and social sciences taking part.
  

Further efforts should be made to link the study on the origins of Chinese civilization with other major issues, including the features and forms of Chinese civilization, in order to explore and explain how a sense of community among the Chinese people was developed and how Chinese people of all ethnic groups are united in diversity, he said.
  

He underlined the need to adapt China's fine traditional culture to socialist society and display the unique symbol of the Chinese nation to bolster "the Chinese spirit, Chinese values and Chinese strength".

Wang Wei, director and researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences' Academic Division of History, gave a lecture about the national research program to the participants of Friday's group study session.
  

He told China Daily that four archaeological sites from between 3500 and 1500 BC－Liangzhu in Zhejiang province, Taosi in Shanxi province, Shimao in Shaanxi province, and Erlitou in Henan province－have been the focus of relevant studies, and other major city ruins from this period along the Yangtze, Yellow and Liaohe rivers were also highlighted.
  

"The research has greatly contributed to our understanding of characteristics of Chinese civilization," Wang said. "Its development has been continuous, and various roots of our civilization were linked with and frequently had exchanges with each other."

Huang Erxia, 38, switched from being a tour guide to a livestream anchor in May 2020, after the outbreak of the novel coronavirus virtually shut down the tourism industry. Huang’s unique selling point in what has become a crowded market was her foreign language skills.

今年38岁的黄尔夏在成为深圳梯拓科技有限公司的一名外语主播之前，一直从事出入境旅游的导游工作。2020年五月，因为新冠疫情对旅游行业的冲击，她放弃导游工作正式成为一名跨境电商主播。

In recent years, with the popularity of live broadcast anchors such as Li Jiaqi, "anchor" has become a new choice for more and more young people to find employment. Figures cited by Zhaopin, an online recruitment platform, show that livestreaming vacancies increased by 11.7 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of last year, while the number of job-seekers applying for jobs in the sector saw a year-on-year rise of 47 percent over the same period.

Another horrible mass shooting took place in the United States on Tuesday just days after the one in Buffalo, New York. The perpetrator, a teenager, shot his grandmother first and then killed 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school in the city of Uvalde, Texas.

Speaking on Tuesday night from the White House barely an hour after returning from a five-day trip to Asia that was bracketed by the mass shootings, a clearly shocked and horrified US President Joe Biden said, "And we must ask when in God's name will we do what needs to be done to, if not completely stop, fundamentally change the amount of carnage that goes on in this country. It's time for action." Vice-President Kamala Harris said: "Enough is enough."

Yes, it is high time that action was taken to stop such carnage. But no matter how loud the calls are today for gun control, that remains mission impossible for the US. In 2012, a lone gunman rampaged through Sandy Hook primary school — killing six adults and 20 children. Afterward there were loud calls for gun control similar to those being voiced today. Former president Barack Obama vowed to do everything in his power to act and the Democrats proposed US-wide laws banning specific models of firearms and enhancing background checks. Some of the measures received Republican support, but it proved impossible to get them through Congress and into law.

Something is clearly wrong with the political system in the US that such a popular move cannot be carried out because of the power of the gun lobby.

Almost 20 million guns were sold legally in the US in 2020, and the figure was nearly 19 million in 2021. The total economic value of the firearm and ammunition industry in the US increased from $19.1 billion in 2008 to $63.5 billion in 2019, a 232-percent increase, according to a report by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The firearm and ammunition industry paid nearly $7 billion in business taxes, including property, income and sales-based levies.

With the huge interests behind the firearm industry, it would be naive to believe that any effective action will ever be possible to put people's lives first. For many US politicians, political activities for vested interests are their political lifeblood.

In addition, wooing voters is a fierce partisan struggle between the two major parties, to the extent that there are those willing to ignore their conscience for votes.

"When in God's name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?" Biden said on Tuesday.

Not until the political system in the US is reformed to treat its maladjustment.

China's software and information technology sector sustained stable growth in the first four months of this year, with revenue amounting to 2.77 trillion yuan from software-related business, up 10.8 percent year-on-year, data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed on Monday.

The World Health Organization said it expects to identify more cases of monkeypox as it expands surveillance in countries where the disease is not typically found. President Xi Jinping highlighted people living a happy life as the biggest human right on Wednesday, reiterating that the human rights issue should not be politicized or used as a tool or a pretext to interfere in other countries' internal affairs.

He made the remarks in a meeting via video link from Beijing with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet. The UN human rights chief and her team arrived in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, on Monday, and their six-day visit to the country will also take them to the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

During the meeting, Xi briefed Bachelet on China's human rights development and reaffirmed the commitment of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government to upholding and protecting human rights in all areas.

He said that China has successfully found a path of human rights development in keeping with the trend of the times and its national reality, and that the human rights of the Chinese people are guaranteed like never before.

Since 2009, China has formulated and implemented four national human rights action plans to promote the free, well-rounded and common development of all individuals. The latest action plan was published in September and set the objectives and tasks of respecting, protecting and promoting human rights in the period of 2021 to 2025.

"We have been advancing whole-process people's democracy, promoting legal safeguards for human rights and upholding social equity and justice. The Chinese people now enjoy fuller and more extensive and comprehensive democratic rights," Xi said.

He underlined the importance of respecting different countries' paths of human rights development, saying that any system or model blindly copied from another country－regardless of the historical, specific and practical contexts－will not only look out of place, but also bring disastrous consequences.

Xi noted that for developing countries, the rights to subsistence and development are the primary human rights. More efforts are needed to achieve development of higher quality, efficiency, equity, sustainability and security, in order to provide strong safeguards for the advancement of human rights, he said.

He stressed the importance of putting people first in promoting human rights development, saying that it is important to take the people's interests as the fundamental purpose and goal, address the most pressing issues the people face and their immediate concerns, and strive to deliver a better life to the people.

"How a country is doing on human rights is essentially gauged by whether the interests of its people are upheld, and whether the people enjoy a growing sense of fulfillment, happiness and security," he said.

Xi underlined the need to step up global human rights governance and said that when it comes to human rights issues, there is no such thing as a flawless utopia.

"Countries do not need patronizing lecturers, still less should human rights issues be politicized and used as a tool to apply double standards, or as a pretext to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries," he said.

It is important to abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, advocate humanity's common values, and steer global human rights governance toward greater fairness, justice, equity and inclusiveness, he added.

Xi expressed China's commitment to actively engaging in human rights dialogue and cooperation with all other parties on the basis of equality and mutual respect to expand common understanding, reduce differences, promote mutual learning, seek progress together and jointly advance the international human rights cause for the greater benefit of people across the world.

Bachelet appreciated China for its efforts and achievements in eliminating poverty, protecting human rights and realizing economic and social development, and commended China's important role in upholding multilateralism, confronting global challenges such as climate change and promoting sustainable development across the world.

The high commissioner said she is confident that this visit will give her a better understanding of China, and that her office would like to enhance communication and explore cooperation with the Chinese side to make joint efforts for the progress of the global human rights cause.

China pledged to further increase people's average life expectancy by around one year from the 2020 level, by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).

It also promised to significantly improve public health services, bring some severe diseases under control or to an end, and continue to improve the quality of medical services, said the plan released by the State Council. 中国生物物种名录2022版发布|China releases new database on biodiversity

China has released an updated national species database, known as the Catalogue of Life China 2022 Annual Checklist, according to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on Sunday. The checklist of this year added 10,343 species to the 2021 checklist, bringing the total number of species to 138,293, including 68,172 animal species, 46,725 plant species, and 17,173 fungi species, among others.

Climate change makes record-breaking heat waves in northwest India and Pakistan 100 times more likely, a Met Office study finds.

The Taiwan question has been the most sensitive issue in China-US relations, with Washington intentionally using the "Taiwan card" in recent years to contain China. In its latest move, the US State Department removed its wording about not supporting "Taiwan independence" and acknowledging Beijing's position that Taiwan is a part of China from its website.

Liu said that the reason why the US has been fuzzy on whether it is willing to get involved militarily to defend Taiwan is twofold.

"It deters Beijing from taking the island province by force and it prevents authorities in Taiwan from seeking 'independence', which will provoke the Chinese mainland," Liu said.
