South Carolina’s lieutenant governor, Pamela Evette, tested positive. She’s had “only mild symptoms” and began quarantining last week.
The CDC has guidelines for when an employee can safely return to work. Someone who’s tested positive does not need a negative test to return. Previously, the CDC recommended a negative test before resuming contact with other people.
In the northeast, several K-12 school districts are delaying in-person classes after high school students attended large parties. This is similar to college students complicating reopening plans by not paying attention to protective measures.
A federal judge ruled some of Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf's pandemic restrictions were unconstitutional. Plaintiffs were fighting requirements that people stay at home, limit gatherings, and "non-life-sustaining" businesses shut down.
India's parliament reopened yesterday for the first time in almost six months, but at least 25 lawmakers could not enter the chamber because they tested positive. The virus is spreading faster in India than anywhere in the world, reporting nearly 100,000 new infections a day.
In France, Marseille and Bordeaux enacted stricter restrictions as infection rates go up faster than the latest national surge. In Bordeaux, that means no more than 10 people in public parks, along the river and on beaches. Also, no fun fairs, antique fairs or neighborhood parties.

There’ve been a total 194,467 deaths in the US reported as COVID-related.
Globally there have been 925,617 deaths. Up 8% over 14 days.

Globally, there are 7,231,890 active cases with 1% in serious or critical condition.
There are 242,195 new cases around the world in the last 24 hours, against a high of 312,229 on September 11th.
