Leonard has been the Head Coach of Rochester High school for 18 years. He has an overall record of 184-36. Last year his team played for the Illinois 5A State semifinals. Leonard's teams have posted 8 state championships with 5 conference championships. Coach Leonard's teams are known for winning and winning a lot. They use an up tempo spread offense that is incredibly tough to master and perform at the high school level year in and year out. With the ability to have his teams continually perform the Rockets have sent 9 out of 10 Quarterbacks on to play at the next level as well as numerous wide receivers. Coach Leonard was inducted into the Illinois College Hall of Fame in 2009. While at Illinois college Leonard established career records for completions, passing yards, and touchdown passes. He was a two-time recipient of the William J. Downer award and was chosen to the American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team in 2000
