This saying has become a way for women everywhere to give a big FUCK YOU to the idea that women need a man to be complete. And that's great, sure, but here's the thing:

When this becomes your whole identity, you actually close yourself off from receiving from others.

I am strong, independent, and a woman. But I don't claim this "strong, independent woman" label for myself. You know why?

You can tell yourself all you like that you don't need anyone but yourself. But the truth is, people need people—and even if I could do everything alone, I really don't fucking want to. And I'm willing to bet that deep down, you don't either.
