In this week’s podcast, I am joined by Ailey Jolie, a psychotherapist who’s work is rooted in Jungian depth psychology, relational somatics, intersectional feminism, anti-oppressive ideologies, and interpersonal neurobiology.
Ailey was born in Canada, where she grew up in the dancing, entertainment and modelling industries and later became Miss Canada. While she was in that environment, Ailey experienced a lot of sexualised violence, which led her to her personal psychotherapy and then to the work that she does today.
Ailey went to Harvard to study global mental health trauma recovery, where she met with deep thinkers who seemingly were much further along in their career. However, she noticed a deep somatic body sense of heaviness, pain and sorrow in these people who were helping the victims of horrendous trauma, and gender and sexual violence. Ailey was missing the play and the passion in this work, so she continued her search through the field of sex therapy and later really found her home in relational work. She resonated with Esther Perel’s way of thinking that the quality of relationships really resembles the quality of our life. Ailey's whole journey of relationships with others, with her body, herself, and her sexuality, is reflected in her beautiful writing.
Key topics include:
⭐️ Is Therapy Designed for Men & the Lack of Direction for Practical Implication
